They have richly earned their reputation for being rude and unhelpful. After being told a part would be in store in a week or two, and calling after two weeks to be told any day now, later when I contacted them was told order not put through yet. Saw their driver today on the corner of Hope Rd and Sycamore. He was behind a lady with her two young children in the vehicle. As soon as the light turned green, the driver leaned on his horn terrifying the passengers of the other vehicle. Once he noticed he scared them, he laughed and continued to lean on the horn then yelling at them. It was so bad, one of the children were crying in the vehicle. I will never shop in this store again. Your employees and their conduct are a reflection on your business as a whole. MANY REGRETS!!!! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!!! BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! This is my 1st review I've ever written... there have been times where I wanted to write a review n' just never got around to it... BUT this, I could not let go... just couldn't possibly have another victim out there or let another day pass without giving ppl heads up abt how these guys run their business n' treat their customers! I've ordered several products, materials, supplies from these guys in the last couple of months as they "seemed" friendly and easy to work with... I would typically call in (like w/any other suppliers, etc), get prices and then order from them if the price is okay.... HOWVER, little did I know that they would actually quote one price over the phone and charge a higher price later on!!! And this happened w/them on a few occasions--not just once!!!! **I think this is how they trap in customers & make profit!!! Because they know that most customers, particularly contractors won't bother w/small differences, finances, invoices, etc...because they have so much going on...*** I admit that I too, had been a bit relaxed w/the small differences between the two prices in the past: the "fake" price they quote to you over the phone, of which I accept and order based on this price... VERSUS the "real" price they actually charge on your credit card w/o notifying you the increase in difference! I had/have been extremely preoccupied w/the construction of my commercial property that I didn't want to make a big fuss over a few several dollars even though they were wrong... HOWEVER, perhaps, it was due to my lackadaisical attitude, the last invoice was ridiculously off! SHADY ACT #1. The run-around... When I called in to immediately rectify the situation, Bob, Betty & Steve gave me the run-around... "call this person, no you need to talk to that person, no this person is in charge, etc"... no one wanted to take any responsibility & resolve this quickly - even now! And this has been going on for a few weeks now. I'm an understanding and patient person. I'm willing to give ppl the benefit of doubt & understand ppl make mistakes... but weeks?!!! It's not that complicated! SHADY ACT #2. Fake Invoices & Lies Every time I explained the situation to someone who apparently was "in charge for that moment", they tried to delay the situation and said someone else will take care of it. They were even sneaky and faxed me the "fake" invoice w/incorrect pricings saying that was the "original" price... When I called in and explained that the invoice was incorrect and was not at all what we agreed to, instead of making things right, they accused me of lying... Even if I were to go below the belt and "lie", is this how they treat customers?? SHADY ACT #3. Drastic Price Change in a Few Days?? The funny thing is that I ordered the same exact product a week before with a much lower price directly from them---do they not realize it's highly suspicious to charge something drastically more a few days later out of the blue???? How can the price change drastically every day as they claim??!! SHADY ACT #4. Intentionally not returning credit that is clearly owed. Nonetheless, while this was going on... and while I thought everything would be resolved amicably, I had returned some of the items that was on the last order (within a week). They picked up the said items but never credited me for them until I called in a few times for the credit (they gave me a run around with that too!). And even now, they didn't give me the full credit and made up some bs story abt why there's a difference in the credit???? That makes absolutely no sense! SHADY ACT #5. Assistant changes tune all of the sudden. At one point, Betty (the assistant?) sympathized and admitted that they were in the wrong and reassured me that everything will be taken care immediately seen as I had been calling them (her) several times each day, every day for 2+ weeks.... But then out of the blue, she decides to change her tune. SO... If you decide to order/buy from these guys, be careful! While they may be deceivingly helpful & friendly, their staff are intentionally deceiving customers, particularly those who order from them... the owner never returns any of my calls. Will, Bob, Steve & Betty are to be wary of! The frustrations, headaches, and investment of too much time, energy and effort are not worthy of doing business with these ppl!!!! I apologize for the long review as this is my first one but I strongly felt I would be doing a great disservice to not warn the public. Best of Luck. read more

Don't know where theses posted bad reviews are coming from. I'm in the construction business and I found builders General Supply to be very professional and friendly. The selection is second to none and prices are comparable to the industry especially considering their prime location in Red bank/ Little Silver read more

If you ever need to go to builders general see Aaron in the back outside lumber area. Great customer service and warm personality. The three other times I called or visited the employees I spoke with were either rude, non caring or not knowledgeable. Aaron gets 5 stars, builders general 3 only because they hired him. read more

Once again I'm terribly disappointed by the service I received. I have only gone to builders general 2 other times, because every time I go I receive bad customer service. I try to always approach everyone I deal with with respect and kindness, and I almost always get that in return. Never has happened here. This morning when I asked the individual working the service desk a question I was given an look of distain as if I was interrupting something very important, which he was not at all engaged in anything at that moment. He then very condescendingly answer the questions I had. I then asked for directions to the location he sent me and was again treated like an idiot. I live in the area, and as a small community, am proud of the service I get almost anywhere else. As a business that promotes it's family ownership I would expect service that reflects that family friendly attitude they are trying to portray on their website. This is/was my last visit to this establishment. I am sad to have to take my business outside of the community where I live, because I will not reward bad behavior on behalf of convenience. I give them one star because I believe the products sold here to be of quality, that is all. read more

For 20% more than you'd pay at the big box store you get to run the gauntlet of nasty employees (I met three on three different occasions) who are royally annoyed that you are asking them to take your money. Even when you know exactly what you want they are openly hostile and rude. read more
