I spent over 10k on materials and these idiots dropped them off without using a forklift with damaged and missing materials . they won't return my emails or calls and it has been over a month now .. I am glad that I have videos of the entire delivery and all the damages that incurred as a result . need to take their ass to court, collect the damages and all the agonies they caused me.. read more

This place really doesn't care about it's customers. Maybe they do about contractors, but individuals should go elsewhere. Really, anywhere else. It seems I'm not the only one that feels this way based on all the number of negative reviews. We bought a series of doors from an initially friendly sale staff who afterwards ignored our calls, emails, and texts. We had to physically show up at the store, and wait and hour, to get a moment of their time. At this point they were not familiar with the details of our order. Instead, we were told how busy they were. Telling your customers you're too busy for them would seem to be an obvious thing to avoid if you're interested in maintaining and building a good client relationship, but here we are. Their concern is taking orders and money; not helping customers or standing behind their service. Working with them, and doing much of their work for them, by managing their sales people in person (to keep them and our orders on track) has been an infuriating and what should be an "unnecessary" experience. If you're remodeling, building a new home, etc. there are a number of excellent resources available. Builders First is not one them. They didn't care about us. Just our money. Go anywhere else first. read more

Likewise a box of framing nails cost $45, and the exact same product at Home Depot is $28. Call around before shopping here, and tell your contractor to go somewhere else local. 60% more expensive than Lowes. Purchased Trex decking. Discovered Lowes carried the exact same product for 60% less of the cost and delivers for free. I went back to Builders FirstSource 3 days after I had picked up the decking asking if I could return it, get a store credit, or any kind of customer service since I spent several hundred dollars above the Lowes price. I was friendly in my communication. The manager said they could do nothing for me. They lost me as a customer permanently. Your source for all hardware that is typically not carried at the big box stores including everything for seismic retrofits. I recommend that you do some homework on what your ordering before doing so. Most places like this have salesmen that need to meet certain quotas and keep their big contractors supplied. So if your a newbie or homeowner be very specific and informed when ordering or else you will get ghosted. They may not return your calls promptly or even emails. When they changed from BMC to builders first source the emails was a mess. Things got lost. The employees were adjusting and working hard so it was difficult to get any info from them or to make adjustments to your orders. read more

I'm not sure how this place is still in business, but their resistance to horrendous customer service reviews is truly impressive. Over the last 15 years I've been a customer whenever I have a job at home, 3 blocks away from BMC. It changes name/ownership every few years, but some things stay exactly the same. Every single time I've been here, the same thing happens. Go to the counter, place your order, then watch as thirty employees stand around, take their break, go to lunch, pretend to be busy, and not one of them offers to complete your order. You ask what to do so you can just get your lumber and be on your way, they tell you to go find a guy in a yellow vest. But when five guys in yellow vests ignore you or tell you they're with another customer, suddenly your trip to BMC turns into half an hour, then longer. You go ask the guy at the gate and he gestures vaguely towards the yard. You go to the yard, and there's not a single employee there who can help you. One guy even walks right past you, muttering something incredibly rude, getting in his black car and driving off. You go back inside, but the guys standing around seem to all have a reason not to help you. Eventually your only choice is cancel your order or just hope this doesn't turn into a whole afternoon. I'm done. Never again. I wish I could say that a review matters to this place but clearly it doesn't. You want to support your local lumber yard, but not like this. How do you pay 30 people to stand around not helping customers who have PAID for their order already, and still make a profit? read more

First time and great experience at BMC!! Total class act from all employees...I recently built a hardwood fence and needed the proper oil for it which BMC is the only store on the Westside that had it. I received excellent advice from Big Brian behind the counter who handed me off to Luis on the floor. They not only walked me right to the can I needed, they provided me with a good sized sample can as well and suggested I open it up and test it on the sample of wood I brought with me. Shook and opened the sample can and got me a rag and some counter space to apply it. The product I was buying was $90 a can so it really was great to be able to sample and see it before I purchased. They are one of the few lumber yards in the area that has a good selection of wood in the area. That is where the good ends. This place is really a 2 1/2 stars but I will give them the benefit with 3. Basically the service sucks. The attendant barely understands English so make double sure there is no lack of communication to help avoid mistakes which can be hard when you need building materials. In addition one of the supervisors has a poor attitude ( like he is doing you a favor to help you). Some of the high volume building material items which should be in stock are sold out so now you have to travel to another place to finish you order. You would think in this economy they would go the extra mile to stock things properly and give good service? Not so here. read more

We shopped for 3 months and decided to go with BMC for our decking needs. We bought $5000 worth of decking material right before New Year's. We were told we could return unused unopened products for a refund. We were told but extra "just in case". So we did! After the deck was finished two weeks later we returned the unopened boxes. We were THEN told there is a 15% restocking fee!!? For new unopened material? Nobody mentioned this beforehand, not once. And we spoke to several sales people and had numerous discussions since we bought bamboo. Upon the return, my husband even brought it up with the store manager. He was not helpful and just repeated the 15% restocking fee, like a robot. We mentioned that we had just spent 5k and was now reconsidering getting supplies for my other projects because of this. He gave us a blank stare like we were a wall, and repeated himself, again. Unbelievable. So unprofessional. Never again will we support this company. There are PLENTY of other companies: Anawalt Lumber or Bourget Bro's. You guys just lost what could have been lifelong customers. read more

Terrible service and a scam. I have been going to BMC for a few months regarding some big projects I've been working on. Most of the time I have bought straightforward items like hardware and tools. This time I purchased close to $2000 of redwood planks. At the time of purchase I asked salesman named Walter if I was able to return any excess product and what the policy was. He stated to me that all I needed was to have my receipt and it be within 30 days. It was pricey so I asked the manager if these were competitive prices. He said " you get quality service here for what you pay for". I thought that that was OK and I purchased the items. Today I went to return a small portion of the unused redwood and some hardware. This time I was greeted with static and given a lot of grief from salesman named Walter. He stated that the redwood was unreturnable and that there was something wrong with it. There was nothing wrong with it and I insisted that the return be done. He was reluctant but ended up taking the unused items. Then he tried to tack on a 10% restocking fee. *** I was never informed of any restocking fee. I asked to speak with a manager. His name is Brian. The same gentleman that stated that they provided "great customer service" for their inflated prices. I informed him that Walter never told me about any restocking fee nor was I shown anything stating a restocking fee. Brian said that was too bad and told me I was responsible for the restocking fee. Really? You're gonna lose a customer over $30 when all you needed to do was educate them on store policies. Brian should have waive the fee and explain to his employee that restocking fees must be told to all customers on purchasing these items. Terrible way to run a business and terrible customer service. This place is the worst. Called up looking for 8ft T&G fencing boards. Guy #1: "Yeah we have about 500 of them" Me: "Great. They're 8ft though, right?" Guy #1: "Yes, 8ft". If I could give zero stars I would. DO NOT COME HERE OR GIVE ANY BUSINESS TO THIS COMPANY!!!!! My boyfriend and I came here to look at the lumber for our diy kitchen counter island. The island will turn out beautiful thanks to our local Home Depot.. but our experience at Stock Building Supply was absolutely disappointing with a hefty price tag that screams "WE LIKE TO SCREW PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR MONEY!" First visit was fine, we found some beautiful wood to use and were given several empty promises of time efficiency on our order(it took one and half weeks longer than the three days quoted) and discounted pricing(they made us pay for their mistakes in ordering pieces that did not exist, seventy-nine dollars extra to be exact). When my boyfriend went to pick up our order after being called that it was ready, he waited 40mins to an hour for assistance, then an employee searched the lumber yard for our order for another 40mins or so to return and tell him our order was not there and someone must have sold it to another customer already.. Umm.. what?! They also hassled him about paying his balance yet. Over the phone, he was promised that any overages would be taken care of by Stock due to them mis-ordering and that it was their mistake(what we considered to be a good business practice and common courtesy). The person we spoke to on the phone was no where to be found, so the staff acted confused and unwilling to make right on their mistake. The entire staff seems inept and incompetent, a very unfortunate discovery since finding the place and being excited that it was a block away from our home. Regardless, we took what could be found of our order and was told they would have to re-order the missing pieces and we'd have to come back in another few days. On our third visit and second attempt to pick up our order(that was hundreds of dollars of expensive hardwood, btw), there was another half hour wait for assistance and then we were told the wood had been there the entire time.. Then Brian, who had promised to take care of the balance over the phone because of their mistake, denied the customer service originally implied and said it was our mistake because we ordered it on a Saturday when they couldn't check their stock. Ridiculous, right?! This place has been infuriating to deal with over the last few weeks and what should have only taken a few days in the first place. Finally, we had the legs cut there and get them home to find they are all crooked. NOTE: their saw has a 10 degree angled flaw, so DO NOT get anything cut here and expect it to be level. We now have to hire a professional woodworker to try and fix the error and hopefully can save the height of the table. This place is HELL. Thank god my boyfriend is awesome and the table will turn out gorgeous, despite this HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I advise no one to go to this establishment unless you are some sort of masochist. I am a general contractor and I have been dealing with BMC Hollywood for about 10 years. Overall my experience was very positive, until now! I ordered twelve thousand dollars worth of R30 roof insulation from Hollywood Branch. They delivered R24.5 insteadof R30.. I asked for an exchange. They refused. I asked for the refund or store credit , the Store Manager Larry refused withot any reson. This is the most outrageous case in my 35 years of beeng General Contractor. STOCK is the third name for this store over the last few years. The thing that hasn't changed is the contractor focus of the sales. They have a great selection of hardwoods, tools and knowledgeable lumber guys. BUT the sales department is set up for contractors with ongoing accounts. They had a cashier but it only lasted for a short time. So buying a box of screws and some oak boards can take a long time while you stand by the counter and try to get someone's attention to pay. read more

I haven't had any issues. I ordered windows and sliding doors. My contractor also has picked up materials. I was able to get windows door and lumber delivered for same delivery fee. Just happened to work out it was all needed at same time. For windows Trinidad has helped me. Seems knowledgeable. Windows don't seem over priced. Descent quality. NOT X10. Sadly my rep; Jereme could not get my orders correct repeatedly. Firstly, the delivery date was promised and changed so many times I lost laborers. When I received my order it had bent/twisted lumber and the wrong kind altogether. He apologized several times through the multiple calls/visits and still continued to make extremely careless mistakes. On my next order, I emailed a clear list of 5 items. I received estimates for the wrong pieces...3 times! He could not seem to make out what 1X6X10 was--I kept getting 1X4X10. I asked for another sales person. Jereme assured me his college would contact me--Never happened. Additionally, Jereme knew I would be staining my wood fence planks (not posts) as we discussed stain options and I built my fence with treated wood and was unable to stain it at all in the end. I purchased MUCH better wood with good service somewhere else. To bad my contractor building my addition will be told NOT to use BMC. I gave Jereme more than enough room to rectify his mistakes. read more

This is the worst building supply company. I live in the area and I went there to get an estimate on 10 Marvin Windows. I spoke to Franco Merida and he asked me to send him the measurements. I sent Franco an email on 1/18 and he never replied back. Therefore, I decided to call and speak to the Manager Brian Benett he asked me to send him an email with the information and he would get back to me, which I did on 1/26. To this day I haven't received a call or email regarding the price of 10 Marvin windows. I don't know how this company stay's in business! Don't waste your time here go to Home Depot! read more

If you need doors and windows for your home the best place to go, in my experience, is BMC in Mar Vista. I bought mine 10 years ago from BMC (I think it had a different name then). After 10 years I was having some aging issues with some of my doors and windows so I went back to Gus Martinez (the amazing kind honest experts at BMC) and he helped me solve all the issues without having to buy new doors or glasses!!!! Preparing for a good-sized backyard renovation can be exciting, yet nerve-wracking. Between nailing down (no pun intended) builders, painters, electricians, and landscapers, and deciding on products & materials to be used, it's enough to cause a few sleepless nights. The last thing anyone would want was a building materials store that added to the stress level. That's where BMC enters the story. My first contact there was with Jennifer, one of the managers. I needed to return some lumber that had been purchased for me by a landscaper who was no longer in the picture. He purchased it without my approval, charged me for it, then ducked out of the job. Jennifer was so chill in the way she handled the situation. She was friendly, patient, and fair. Everything you would want! When I told her I had some questions about decking, she told me she would hook me up with Dolores Tobar; their "Deck Queen." I worked with Dolores over a three day period and never at any time did I feel rushed, pressured, or unimportant. She explained everything, and I had a LOT of questions! But what meant as much to me as her expertise, was the kindness she showed my seven year old son. She really took an interest in him, even going as far as giving him a donut. That may not seem like much, but for a parent of a child who would rather be home playing than at the lumber yard with Dad, it is awesome! The last person I would like to praise was Paolo, the kind gentleman who take care of the return. He was friendly, efficient, and just made the situation a breeze. He made me feel as important as the 'bigger' builders & contractors who were there that morning. Granted, it is a building materials store, so it should go without saying that there was some 'wait time' thrown in there. But that was to be expected. I have wandered for what seems like hours at Home Depot looking for help. You won't get that at BMC! Thank you, so much Jennifer, Paolo, and Dolores, my deck queen! Expect to wait 40min to even be helped and another 30min before you can check out. This place seemed like a good local spot without the HomeDepot crowd and lack of service. This place failed and I wouldn't recommend at all. There is no cashier you have to go through 3 steps before you get to pay for your wood + there is no one there to help you anyway. I had a bad experience with my girlfriend trying to build out a table and the price they quoted was defiantly not the price we paid (+$79 because of their mistake). With the deception, lack of service, careless business practices, care for their customers, crooked cuts it's just not worth your time. Stock Building supply need to clean up their act. read more

We had purchased lumber for a project and decided not to use them. We called ahead asking about their return policy and they told us a 10% restocking fee. Okay...fine. I was not cool with this,but was pulled away by my hubby, who felt it was only a few dollars more. Just awful! Clearly customer service is not something that is of importance to this business. I showed up to get 2 simple cuts done on a piece of plywood. They said that they were closing in 15min and to come back the next day.even though it could totally have been done in that 15min I returned the next day and was told that the person to do the cuts was on lunch and I could wait. I asked how long and the only answer I could get was "I don't know". I could just pay and wait. Then, the guy at the desk asked a forklift driver to make the cuts (2). He responded with $20 and he'll cut it for you. No thanks! A total waste of time. BMC sales manager, if you're reading this: I've never had to work so hard to give someone my money. Your sales guys think they have govt jobs. I have had to drive into the store multiple times just to find my "guy" to say, "can you please respond to my email?" That's not good. Calls and emails simply do not get returned. And God help you if someone else started the estimate. If JoJo is on your account, then you'll have to wait until he gets out of the hospital and physical therapy to update your estimate b/c no one else could possibly help you. Not to say that no one works hard, just that the jibber-jabber bro culture in the corral makes for some slooooow sales. Not to rant, but what is up with your checkout process? I bought a $0.24 dowel rod and walked out with a sheet of copy paper stapled to a receipt. A most unpleasant establishment to visit. They tend to favor their repeat contractor customers,who seem to traffic here because of their convenient location and can pass on the high prices to their clients, and hold all others in disdain. Not a pleasant shopping experience in any case. So tired of poor service. The man in the lumber department lied about how they sell 1x12, minimum 8ft cut because he didn't want to bother cutting me 14" piece. On the way out I asked sales man behind counter if I could buy by the ft. Answer YES I can. So I would of had to buy 2ft. Which was okay but this store wouldn't do the second cut 14"for me. Can't select less than 1 star, would probably go -5 star if I could. Been here for 4 hours. Sitting in a truck. Waiting for our load to get put on the trailer. About 3 hours in, went to head into the store area and someone in Orange finally told us they didn't have 2X6X12, we are going to have to change them to 14's and pay the difference. Come back outside and the 14's are stacked like shit on top of the 2X6X16's, which are also stacked like shit. Boards probably wouldn't warp if we could have left right after that. But here we are passing the 4 hour mark waiting for some glue-lam and some precut edge seal that went missing somewhere. We have watched as 4 dudes in orange stand around a pile of sheeting for about 10 minutes, plus some smaller groups do the same throughout this 4 hour period. We have talked to the dudes in orange multiple times to get our order filled. 3 of our crew x 4 hours = about $200 the boss had to pay for us to sit. Lost about 2.5 hours of time we could have had at the job site actually working. Real nice BMC. Did I mention we've been sitting here for over 4 hours now? And we still don't have our order filled. Even offered our services to speed up this process. Also have seen the same BMC West semi truck get loaded up once, go and unload somewhere, and now he's back for another load. 4hrs 7min exact time waiting still at this point and our load is still not completed. read more

The guys here are really helpful and friendly. I was looking for information and advice on how to protect a new Douglas Fir deck in snow and sun conditions and they were ready with considerate with several options of specific products. They also volunteered advice on the application of the the product I ultimately chose. I was not sure how much product to purchase and the friendly staff told me I could return unopened cans without a problem. They also helped me carry my purchase to the car. I often return to this hardware store when I need advice on how to do something or if I am unsure what product to buy and I have never been disappointed or ripped off. read more

Good selection of wood. Talk to Dave Roden.....if you want really good help. There are some Problems: Some of the desk guys are sort of slow about there job. It's really a contractor oriented place. So they do a lot of glad handing with their big and long time customers, and it is the same register desk for if you are buying a box of nails. So you can imagine, at times, if you are buying a screw and the guy in front of you is buying a truckfull of lumber, you are going to be like "Get me out of here!" But they have a great selection of certain things in wood you are NOT going to get at Home Depot. Also a really big selection of heavy duty hardware like strong tie and big huge bolts etc. If you are in the area you should check this place out and know what they have and don't have. You will need them for somethings and use other places for the things Stock isn't best at providing. They do have some knowledgeable people if you need help. Lumber is their best thing. And they also have a pretty darn good selection of windows and doors. I would say you are better off there if you need high quality doors and windows than home depot. The window and door staff are knowledgeable. They can also get you parts for windows and doors. Not much plumbing or electrical at all...... It's not self help like Home Depot for lumber, you have to wait for a yard guy. This place is good if you are building, doing construction, you can order all your stuff, like truckfulls of lumber, and get it delivered etc. You can negotiate a price in that case. But if you want to run in and get a little thing and run out...well, hit and miss. read more

We bought out new Trex deck material through stock supply in mar vista area. Out contractor took us there and showed us a few options. So on the good note, the deck looks great and when we compered the numbers to other vendors, they were significantly cheaper than other, although we did get a discount through our contractor. They were 2 days late on the delivery of the materials, and did call to apologies and try to rush the order as fast as possible, so over all, if we didn't had that little hickup, I would have gladly give them 5 stars.
