I had an absolutely terrible experience with ZERO followup from salespeople here. And this was no small order, it was for multiple doors and windows with a $10K budget. I went in Saturday and the place was deserted with not a single salesperson there to take window or door orders. I was told they don't work Saturdays, so fine. A trusted realtor recommended I work with Nick Brown. When I asked for him by name, I was told he has transitioned to working from home and that I should email him. Afterwards, I sent several emails and not a single response. So then I reached out to Frank Alvarado, both by email and voice. He told me his email wasn't reliable and that I should text the info, so I did. The text got delivered and not a single follow up call or email happened after. I was essentially trying to give away money to this place to handle a large order for windows and doors and all I got was ZERO service. They're now being rebranded as 'Builders First Source', but I can assure you this should be the LAST source you even try, even if you're desperate. No customer service and follow up at all. BMC Doors & Windows. I just wanted to take a moment to recommend our local BMC (Building Materials & Construction Solutions). As a new homeowner who's been doing renovations over the last 8 months, I've experienced first-hand the supply shortage and spiking costs of building materials. Twice now we've purchased doors from BMC - one exterior front door and two interior doors. Both times their prices were 20-40% less than a major retailers, available sooner, and the product quality was just as good if not better. Anyways, thought I'd give them a shoutout because it's been tough to find reliable construction supply companies. Plus, it's nice talk to a human who knows their stuff. Well I ordered some windows for Melia, and the experience was horrible. Spend about a week to place the order, had a wrong measurement, my contractor found it and we called to fix it. No problem. Then emailing the correct measurement Melia emailed back saying sorry she got busy and interrupted many times. She send us the final at 3:12 pm. I approve it at 4:45 Then 1 1/2 week later I get an email 24 hours before delivery. She never placed the order. What the heck am I going to do now. I am in a situation to say the least. Broken glass, and now they want me to wait another 2 weeks. Never said sorry to me when processing a refund, the manager I called that said they will figure it out never called me back (Jose). This is just lack of caring for customers or contractors. You know people make plans based on what you all say the delivery day will be, now I am paying $600 for a missed day of install to my contractor. Just a bad way to do business don't you think. Stock Building Supply is a large supplier of building materials and construction services to professional home builders, contractors and the public (like me) in the United States. They have 25 locations in California. Great place to order specialty items like bi-fold doors if Home Depot or Lowes don't carry it. Pretty easy to order, just call with specifics like dimensions and style you want. If you don't know what style you want then measure your dimensions, natch. Secondly go to their showroom for style options. Lots of pretty stuff to pick out for your "Barbie" dream house. Finally, place order! If you need small doohickeys like screws or knobs, they sell that too! (hehe!) When your order is ready, they notify you and you come pick it up. Their lot is huge so be careful navigating to the 3rd bldg to pick up your order. You could be squished by a forklift or crushed by lumber stacks. So drive cautiously..... Plus if your new doohickey sticks out of your vehicle, they offer complimentary plastic red flags to tie it. This warns idiots to not drive too close else they want to be impaled. Thoughtful, huh? When even Home Depot doesn't have you covered, this place is going to come through in the pinch with your home improvement needs. It's a building supply company that can and will gladly special order your every need. Does it take some time? A bit. But when you get that high quality material in for whatever project you're tackling, they're the ones that can't be beat. The customer service is pretty on top of things whenever I've been here. Sure, they may not tackle you right inside the door and act like they're working on a commission or anything, but if you have a question or are curious if they could get a specific thing in.. or hell, even if what you think is the right material and ask them how to tackle a project, they're far better than your local do-it-yourself Home Depot worker in actually having the knowledge for you. Prices are a bit higher, but you get your moneys worth. Sadly though you can't escape that annoying greeter that has tot check your receipt at the exit like home depot. Worst. Company. Ever. As a general contractor needing some help on pricing custom doors I was given a rep named Frank. This guy didn't even know how to spell customer service. Wouldn't return phone calls, once I didn't get a hold of him it took him like 3 weeks to generate a price. When asked for a written quote, not verbal, he stated he couldn't give one because he was missing information. When the "missing information" was given there was no response. When I asked if he would visit the job site to collect any information he needed, he replied quickly and said "Will not do a job walk for single door opening will do for a whole house package windows doors etc." Talk about putting the cart before the horse. I would never refer a whole house package to this company. Maybe my experience would be different with rep, but who knows. What I do know is that there are some unemployed people out there that could've probably provided me with better service than Frank. Amazing the kind of people that have jobs these days. read more

Someone from Home Depot recommended Stock as a source for single-lite doors. I find it much easier to navigate than HD, and better stocked than OSH. The customer service is unsurpassed. The sales rep who sold me my door walked me over to the lumber area to cut off a piece of Douglas fir to help me decide whether or not to stain the door. As I kept peppering him with questions about fencing materials, locks and hardware, he graciously took me around to each of the stations. I'm glad I don't have to drive to Sherman Way for my building supplies any more. read more

Do not do business with this place. I've had nothing but trouble with the Therma Tru doors I had installed and BMC will not honor the warranty or even respond to requests for updates. These door have numerous issues including leaking adhesive at all seals, broken floor strike, and warped doors that pop and squeak throughout the day. The doors are JUNK and dealing with Gus Martinez has been like pulling teeth. Terrible customer service and a garbage product. read more

RE Windows and glass doors - they may try to push the Jeld-wen line, they have by far the greatest percentage of Jeldwen in the showroom. However, the big benefit as I see it is that they carry some of the higher end aluminum windows, and have some gorgeous examples in their store. They have a giant La Cantina bifold door display, and they have several Western displays: enormous triple track and single track sliders (they can make them up to 6' wide per slider pane); pocket slider, Single swing, etc. I learned a lot going there. Make sure you deal with Nick, who has decades of window/door experience, not the other guy who isn't that knowledgeable. read more

I chose Stock Lumber because I live a couple miles from there and wanted to give my business to a local merchant, but rude treatment for the 2nd time, not to mention not getting a return call on my quote, has made me decide to take my estimated $10k of lumber needs to a competitor. The wood is a little more expensive but I think the quality is better the Home Depot. The real problem with this business is the convoluted sales system. No prices are listed on the wood because the wood prices supposedly change every day. That means to find out a price you have to go from the yard or warehouse back into the office/store and wait in line to be quoted a price. Every time you want a price you need to do that. Also the price might get changed after you are quoted a price and then return to purchase the wood. That happened to me. I had to catch the error. read more

Service is not the same as Home Depot so for impatient millennials remember this is a contractors yard selling real lumber, not the junk at Lo's or China Depot. You will pay a little more for lumber but it hasn't been sorted through and the variety is greater. It's hard to find a building supply store these days that has everything AND has good customer service. Stock, like everyone else, can't have all things on the shelf at all times, but they have hard-to-find essentials, like con heart redwood; and if they don't have it, it is easy to special order. They also carry higher quality materials, unseen at the bigbox hardware stores. They tolerate newbies to DIY well, as long as you don't waste their time. I did a ground up remodel out of their stock, and yes, all material was delivered as promised (sometimes earlier). Like the other guy said, if you want 1 2x4, go to Slows or China Depot. Brought my blueprint, and was able to get "good guy price" as an "owner-Contractor". Finish work woods and moldings are here. Absolutely clear (no knot, warp, wane, or pith) stock, I've built furniture and custom cabinets from their stock. Contractors and pros don't shop anywhere else. "Weekend Warriors" aren't treated with respect because you don't know what you need and want and waste the valuable time of people who can appreciate the skilled builders who shop here. If you want "a piece of plywood", go somewhere else. If you want A-B lumber core 4X8 sheets, this is the place! New name on the building, same professional service. read more
