We had originally planned to have Ryan host our photobooth at our wedding in April 2020, but due to COVID, we postponed until 2021. Then my (now) husband and I found out we were pregnant and opted to cancel the wedding entirely. I reached out to Ryan in August letting him know and requesting a refund (since I had paid in full) of the amount minus the deposit. He responded, not a problem, but then I never received an email back on how I would get the refund. I've now followed up via email and phone call. Seems like he is ignoring me. I understand that this is a hard time for everyone, but to be withholding money over the deposit, is another level of low. Gina mixes an amazing cocktail. Isn't that the most important part of these bartender reviews AND I never read that!! She's extremely knowledgeable and is everything you would expect from a bartender. I searched far and wide (on Yelp!) for a perfect bartender and I couldn't be happier with my choice in Build Your Own Bar. What impressed me in my initial conversation was her creativity and her ability to see the vision for what I wanted my guests to experience. She was able to make drink recommendations quickly and actually knew the recipes of each drink she suggested, unlike others I spoke to. She even took on the challenge of making a Margarita using my recipe and the drink she concocted was exquisite. The recipe calls for Tequila, Agave Nectar and Lime Juice, a must try for cocktail and Margarita Lovers. I didn't know the amounts of each ingredient but she was able to create and re-create an amazing drink all night. A true bartender. While tending the bar and mixing all the popular drinks you can think of both came easy to her, so did servicing, entertaining and mingling with my guests. Gina is so unbelievably personable and she goes out of her way to make sure you're happy. From the very beginning communication with Gina was excellent. She gave us a shopping list of everything we would need to stock our bar and I mean everything, down to the type of cups, cherry's and olives. She arrived early and set-up everything! At the end of the night the entire bar and area surrounding the bar was cleaned and left over items were organized for easy storage. Honestly, it takes a lot for me to give a 1 star review. I reached out to Ryan with BYOB after a friend who had them at her wedding recommended them to me to use for my wedding. It took SEVERAL attempts to get a response back from Ryan, and our interaction was fine but very short. I then had to follow up again, and again it took forever to hear back. This went on for weeks, with me e-mailing a few questions, and him responding several days/weeks later only answering a part of one question, which is very frustrating when you're trying to plan your own wedding. After weeks of asking for a contract to be sent to me so I could secure the wedding day, I finally just gave up and went with someone else, who ended up offering me a better price anyway. He was extremely patient throughout the booking process in helping me decide how much liquor to buy, where to buy it, and in getting all the necessary paperwork for our venue. He took the job on relatively short notice and when our sudden change in start time conflicted with another job he had in the morning, he found a way to make it work. I didnt get to spend too much time at the bar, but we heard nothing but compliments from our guests. Build Your Own Bar made our event SO easy. Ryan's advice on how much beer, wine, ice, etc to provide was right on. Day of our event he and his waitstaff were amazing! They were punctual and got right to work. Our event was not the easiest as we had a potluck of sorts for 150+ people. Guests came and dropped off food in the 'staging area' and the waitstaff very quickly and efficiently turned a pile of food into a beautifully arranged buffet. Ryan was extremely professional and personable as our bartender; everyone loved him and there was never a wait for a drink. I called Ryan 9 days before my wedding in Ramona (bartender plan fell through and I was desperate). I was laughed at by other companies/ bartending services I reached out to, telling me they were booked until next year. Ryan told me he would have a bartender and barback there- no problem. We booked BYOB for our wedding 2 weeks ago and couldn't have been happier! Gina is the ABSOLUTE BEST. She made the process so easy, she was so helpful and kindly answered all of my questions. They make it SO easy- they literally bring everything (cups, ice, stir sticks, etc) and give you a shopping list based on your number of guests so you know how much alcohol and soda to purchase. This review is LONG overdue. BYOB bartended my wedding In October and I can't begin to say enough good things about this company. Gina was our main contact/bartender and she was absolutely fabulous. We booked BYOB about a little over a year in advance and they answered all of my questions over that period of time. Any question I had they answered promptly and completely and never made me feel as if I were taking too much of their time. They walked through all of my numerous ideas and offered the experience to help guide me in the right directions. Throughout the process they were always very cost conscious and made sure to get the best deals on insurance, cups, ice and even helped guide me to the best prices when I was purchasing the alcohol. They were there right on time for the wedding and cleaned up quickly and completely at the end of the night. As for the service during the wedding there was never a long line and they were so friendly. After the wedding so many of my guests asked about the recipes for the drinks and commented on how nice and fast the bartenders were. If I ever need to hire a bar again I know exactly where to go.
