I have never been here before, really never got into this a child. However, being my daughters first birthday, we had to bring her in. The promotion being, you pay your age on your birthday month. It was a fun experience, the staff was really friendly during the whole process. There's two styles of birthday bears you can pick out, they're nice bears, really soft, my daughter really enjoyed the softness of the bear. It was a fun time, my daughter got as much enjoyment out of the experience as a 1 year old could. They do have a ton of other bears, along with themed bears, different outfits to dress them up in, shoes, pajamas, you name it, they probably have it. Outside the birthday bear, the pricing is decent but it can add up with all the accessories they have available. Overall, a fun experience.

I was in a bit of a bind. Christmas was coming up and I had no idea what to gift my now boyfriend. Seeing as he has a daughter, I thought it would be a good thing to get them something they could do together. That trail of thought eventually led to getting gift cards to Build-a-Bear Workshop. On a weekend when the three of us were together, we made the trek there, and wow, this location was packed. It seemed everyone decided to go and get a stuffed toy the same day. I had no idea what the process for making it was, seeing as I had received one years earlier and never made one of my own, but let me tell you it's extensive. When we first entered, we were floored by the many options you could choose. First, you go and pick your toy. Then, you go to the machine and find a voice for it. Afterwards, get ready to make the line to have one of their employees stuff the toy. This is where it gets interesting. The experience is extremely interactive. The employee, in this case Chris, involved my boyfriend's daughter in the process of stuffing the toy. She was told to step on a petal to get stuffing and to stop when it was enough. Around there, too, you had the option for some scents and hearts. By scents, I mean you could purchase a scent to bathe your toy in. She chose rainbow (more of a cotton candy in my opinion). As for the hearts, you have two choices. You can get the free one, or choose to get the flashy, beating one. We nearly got the flashy one before we opted for the free one. Once this was complete, the toy, a Pikachu, was sewn. Afterwards, he was "bathed," meaning his remaining fuzz was cleaned off. From there, he was clothed, accessorized, and finally given a birth certificate. Thus, Pika, the Pikachu, came into the world. Pika, consequently, was ready to be taken home. He could be taken home in a bag, in a box, and I forgot what else. Pika ended up being taken home in a bag, and well, now that bag, along with Pika himself (because yes it's a boy Pikachu), has a new best friend.

When your kid has no idea what to expect, but has sparkles in their eyes from the moment they walk in, you know something special is about to take place. Girlfriend got me gift cards for Christmas so I could make something special for my daughter, which is essentially my greatest gift in life, and I got the warm and fuzzies. We set aside a day that we would have her with us, and a special moment was born. Please have patience. The process takes a little bit, and the lines might seem like they don't move, but it is worth it. I was being a bit impatient due to having tooth pain, but when I saw the kids and how they reacted to the process, and how some of the staff integrates them, I was blown away. My daughter is a Pokemon fan, and it doesn't matter what is happening, she loves Pikachu, so the moment she saw she could get one... she was overjoyed. The first part, after you select your bear, unstuffed animal of your choice, is to do a voice recording, or select from a batch of available sound bytes. I couldn't find Pikachu in it, but one of the employees just scanned the tag and loaded up the voice bits so we could demo it, and it was cute. Second process is getting the animal stuffed. The employee made sure kids were part of the process. Don't be fooled though, he's a good seller - almost got me to put the heart that beats without knowing about the added cost. My daughter opted to give Pika a "rainbow" scent on its belly, and he made her do this routine with the heart and she got really into it. Part of it is on a video clip I posted here - it was heartwarming! Then, accessories. So many of them. My daughter got a Pokemon jacket that looks like a poke ball for Pikachu, and the irony was not lost on my girlfriend ("Pikachu hates pokeballs, you know this...") as well as a phone. Then, a birth certificate. On this day, Pika was born, and my daughter has a companion for her to embrace every time she is here with me. Is it pricey? Absolutely, especially when buying anything licensed as such. But the joy my daughter continues to experience when they are reunited does not have a dollar tag assigned to it. This was special.

$6 heart with heartbeat sound vs no additional charge heart

An interactive experience, Build a Bear is quite fun for both kids and adults. There is an unexpected fun of building your own character customized by you. Build a Bear offers more than merely bears as their collection includes dragons and dinosaurs, star wars, disney princesses, dc comics, marvel, my little pony and the list is endless. For adults, you can definitely find a character you love but don't necessarily need a stuffed animal of. But the characters look cute and fun as a stuffed bear with neat accessories that you can easily end up spending more money than you want or expected. Beware of all the options they provide as they each carry an additional charge. First, you pick an unstuffed bear or character from the bins display. Next, you go to the stuffing area where the attendant will help you stuff the bear with a machine and will ask the kids to step on a pedal to participate in the stuffing. Next they will ask you to add a heart. There is a free heart that is a tiny heart shaped pillow you put in the bear before they sew up the behind. There is another heart available with a heart beat sound for additional charge. They will also ask if you would like to add a scent to your bear (for example bubble gum) for yet another charge. Then it's time to go to the fluffing table to fluff and clean your bear (for no additional charge). Next you can pick out clothing and accessories for your character. Lastly, visit the computer to pick a name and create a birth certificate for you new furry friend (for no additional charge). The birth certificate prints by the registers where you pick up certificate and pay. They offer a bag or drawstring bag for your purchase. The regular bag is free and drawstring bag is $5.99. The full price of items is pricey easily at around $25 to $50 per character + outfit + accessories. They do have promotions often. On our visit, they had up to 50% off Disney characters + accessories. Our kids loved it and had fun. My partner and I were glad for 50% discount. The employees have been friendly and seem to enjoy interacting with kids.

You know you are officially old when you go from being the Duke of Villa 221 and Automatic Slims to being the duke of Build a Bear and Home Depot. My kid got a gift card to this place so we made the trek to Pembroke lakes mall build her a bear. The premise is great as your kid picks an animal, then the builders proceed to help the kid stuff the doll, add options such as a heartbeat and the ability to talk, pick an outfit, and then issue a birth certificate with the doll's new name. This is pretty cool especially if you have a gift card as every option you order adds to the price. Although the dolls start at $20, he total bill for "Pamela the Panda" and clothes ended up being over $100! Once you check out they offer you $30 in gift cards for $15 so of course my wife had to participate in this great "deal". These guys aren't dumb as if you have additional gift cards you'll come back. We of course did and spent another fortune on a wardrobe for Pamela (suckers!). I can only imagine how much I'll have to shell out for my daughter's real wardrobe when she's a teenager.... Anyway this is definitely a good place to take a kid for a special occasion considering the prices, but our kid is definitely happy with her special friend. They also have birthday parties here but I will certainly avoid like the plague since I don't want to be buying all of my kids buds their own special friends....

So I came here last week with my friend Jen. Now even though I'm 21 and she's 20, we had a fabulous time! It was pretty magical thanks to one of the employees named Gabbie. :) First we picked which animal we wanted... I went with a brown bunny and Jen choose a white bear. Then we brought our animal skins to the fluffy machine. Gabbie asked us if we wanted them soft and squishy or stuffed and fluffy. I was unsure, so half way through the stuffing, Gabbie asked me to give my bunny a big hug and see where I wanted to go with it.... After that we picked a smelly thing to put in our animals. I picked cotton candy and Jen picked strawberry (they both smell really good, and they offer to continuously replace them when the smell runs out). the last step to stuffing your "new friend" is grabbing a heart... and of course doing the heart dance.... Now this is why the experience was so fun.... Gabbie had us do "the Heart ceremony" (you know the 'rub it on your ribs, so your friend is always by your side' 'rub it on your ear so it hears all your secrets') and it was super cute. Then we spun around while making a wish to put in our stuffed animals. I was super into it!!! ... Jen was kinda into it... lol. We brought them to the grooming station and brushed all the fuzzies away.. and then headed over to the outfits. OHMYGOSH THE POSSIBILITIES!! do I want to make my bunny a princess? a slutty bunny? a "hip hop" enthusiast?? (see what I did there?) so many decisions and choices!! ... well Jen ended up naming her bear marshMELLOW and gave her a laid back chill look with jean shorts and a cute t-shirt... while I was lost in what to do... and then suddenly **BAM** it all came together!... I grab this.. this.... and that... and my bunny... looked... FEIRCE! I picked a black, red, and white cheerleading outfit and a red wig! we did the birth certificates ... ended up naming my bunny "honey buns"... and then we rolled up to the cash register... they put the outfits on our stuffed animals... Gabbie put the wig on my bunny and told me to look away... when she tells me turn back around I see she put the cutest ribbons in my bunnies hair!!!!! ughhhh my bunny is so frickin cute!! she looks just like big red (except prettier) from bring it on. Gabbie was amazing! she made the whole experience awesome! I swear that girl was made of sunshine and rainbows.... so Gabbie if you are reading this... THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND SMILES! honestly it was great... and I totally recommend people (young and old) go here!

Signifying it was MY fault his worker decided to carry everything at once. I ended up taking the offer even though it was low because one of the figures had broke in their care and no other place would've wanted to purchase a broken item. Ridiculous and words cannot express the way that interaction made me feel. Clearly not everyone there is taught manners or customer service. Never got an apology from them either, do better!
