I had a disappointing experience with this dental office and I did not feel the process was professional or transparent. I called and was encouraged to come in for a free implant consultation. My main goal was simply to understand the general price range for an implant. However, once I arrived and was already sitting with the dentist, I was told that they needed to take X-rays first in order to provide a consultation. I felt pressured in the moment and didn't know how to say no. After the X-rays were taken, the dentist reviewed them, explained what they saw, and gave me an estimate between $2,500 and $4,000. Only after everything was done, I was told they would bill my insurance for the X-rays and the exam. I also informed the dentist that I am currently seeing another dentist and had X-rays taken about a month ago. I understand offices may have their own procedures, but if insurance billing was going to happen, it should have been clearly explained before I came in, especially when the appointment was presented as a "free consultation." Don't ever come here for implants. This doctor doesn't know how to do implants. I got only 1 implant here and the crown got loosened after 4 years. I came back for him to replace the crown and he charged the insurance about $1100 plus $100 copay from me but the crown isn't last long this time. I came back for him to check it out and he said he doesn't know what to do now. He told me to come back when the crown got loosened more. I gave up on him and will never be back here again. Dr Newton Bui is the best dentist ever! I used to be very scared of going to the dentist even with just teeth cleaning. However, with Dr Bui, not only my teeth are very clean, it is just a little sore, not bad at all. My daughter, 10 years old, prefers him over her pediatric dentist. He is very skillful with teeth implant as well. My tooth implant is so nature & not hurt at all. My mom's teeth implant from him is beautiful. His implant price is unbeatable. Everyone knows finding the right dentist is one of the hardest things in a life time. I've been going to dr. Bui for a few years now and he's nothing short of perfection. Dr Bui has been my dentist for as long as I can remember! He's like family at that this point haha. He's very professional, gets the job done, and will refer you to a specialist if it's a procedure he is unable to do. His office is timely with reminders for patients like me who forget to come twice a year! Very personable and will gladly talk to you while you're unable to speak since he's cleaning your teeth haha. I've been coming to this dentist for as long as I can remember... Okay, so you can say I've been coming here for 21 years of life! It is best to say he is a family, bi-lingual (Vietnamese/English), and professional practitioner and the office always sends out the half-yearly reminders to go in for a cleaning, which is much appreciated! I mean, who likes to come to the dentist willingly and remembers willingly? Every time I come, my experience has always been good, quick, and painless. They always give out free toothbrushes and gum, too! Dr. Bui is an amazing, university-accredited, long-term practitioner and can take care of anything concerning teeth, and he does it well. I got everything for my teeth you could think of done here. From stubborn teeth my mom couldn't use the door-to-teeth dental floss technique to braces and retainers to cleanings and cavity fillings and x-rays. Dr. Bui's office is more on the traditional side in terms of their patient well-being matters. They have a TV in the waiting room, music (usually Kost 103.5) playing in the background, Vietnamese magazines, American magazines, and a little play table for toddlers. When you're sitting in the chair though, there's not much to look at except the dentist working over you, but Dr. Bui does make conversation and when I don't have that apparatus that sucks fluids and particles from my mouth IN my mouth, I talk back to him, too! This is my first Yelp review and he definitely deserves this special first-time-review from me. He's the only dentist my brother and I have been to for the past 20 years, and most of our reasons for going are pretty typical: cleaning (he uses this special dentist-y toothbrush and some special toothpaste) and... that's it. My brother and I never had any cavities or any particular reason to visit Dr. Newton Bui outside of our regular cleaning schedule, so I didn't think much of him or his place. But about two years ago, I got my braces (just as I was graduating high school). And it was with him. Anyway, the braces so far have been doing a great job. I can already tell my teeth are seriously straight. But on that note, because my wisdom teeth also came out relatively recently, I had to get them removed. My top two, which didn't require surgery, were removed by Dr. Newton Bui himself. He used some topical anesthesia thing on my gum first before injecting (I think?) local anesthesia, and the procedure was EXTREMELY painless. A bit awkward, as I was awake to see him using a large clamp thing and feel this weird sensation (painless, but it was push-y and pull-y). And of course, I was awake to hear that hissing of pressure loss(?) as the wisdom teeth got yanked out. All in all, it was a very easy procedure that ended in ~30 minutes. He was very thorough and detailed in explaining how to treat the holes where the teeth were, what to do, etc. And about 4 days later, I was okay to start eating rice again. Of course, the place is Vietnamese. Dr. Newton Bui himself speaks both English and Vietnamese fluently, but everyone else (I believe?) speaks mostly Vietnamese. But thankfully I have my mom, as I don't speak Vietnamese. But I'd recommend him and his place to anyone! He's a pretty legit, nice person (we've had some philosophical conversations regarding Buddhism haha), and he does ask how I'm doing. (He remembers I'm a human bio major from UCSD, etc.) read more
