But a new installation? weekend emergency? answer the phone on Sunday? Here's how this situation worked out. I was to leave town for the holidays and decided to check my house for problems, one of which has been my ancient hot water heater. This was an incredible 35 years old, qualifying for the some kind of world record. Sure enough, water was leaking onto the floor. And on Sunday afternoon. So I left a message and wrote an email. Within an hour or so Helene responded that the owner, Neil, would come the next morning. Neil was on schedule and offered to try to fix the leak, but it was due to an old fitting that might result in a bigger leak, and anyway replacement was overdue. One reason I'd postponed this for so long was I knew the job wouldn't be easy. The unit was jammed into a very small utility closet next to the HVAC. Neil gave me a very reasonable estimate, I could leave and the repair would be done in two days. As it turned out, the person I was to visit developed Covid. So I got to see Alix and Daniel do the work. It was not an easy job, many connections were outdated and needed to be brought to current code. The new unit is better insulated than the old so it was larger as well. Plus the old unit weighed a ton due to years of mineral deposits in the tank. But these guys made it happen. They are very friendly and they take the time to explain what needs to be done and how it will be done, They repaired our toilet leak last year and this year they replaced some frozen washer and dryer valves that would not shut off. Our 11 year old washer died and we needed to turn off the water and remove hoses to put on the new washer. They cut through the dry wall to get to the sweat welded copper fitting and reattached new valves with compression fitting in the panel so next time we don't have to sweat weld and remove the dry wall. The dry wall patch was very neatly put back and basically good as new. I like that they are from Sebastopol and know the area and are local. I had one plumber from Santa Rosa last year and they were not familiar with the water tank and pump system that us country folk have and not on city water.
