This was our first time dining here. Upon entering, the restaurant looks appealing, but once you reach the dining area and see the food stations, it becomes discouraging. The cleanliness at several stations was concerning, and having cold desserts displayed alongside hot food does not make sense and could potentially be unsafe. The quality and taste of some of the dishes were just average at best. We decided to try the hibachi, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing--the chef seemed inexperienced, and the food lacked flavor. With an early morning flight and nothing in the 'fridge, we needed to go out. The challenge: a restaurant where I wouldn't have leftovers. (I almost always have leftovers.) The solution: a buffet! I didn't have high expectations, but this place was pretty darned good. True test -- hot and sour, and theirs is great. Thick, spicy, and plenty of ingredients. I followed up with egg drop. (Don't judge me! I'm a soup person!) Buffet City has an extensive sushi/sashimi station. The fish was fresh (I hope!) and better than other buffets. Last night it was expensive, food was cold, a lot didn't taste good, pepper steak was so tuff I couldn't eat it, coconut shrimp were all breading with no taste, ribs were very greasy, but the crab Rangoon, fried shrimp and boiled shrimp were good but were not deveined. The staff were yelling at each other quite a lot in a very loud voice and weren't very friendly. The owners need to read these reviews and make changes!!! Their prices DON'T reflect tariffs!!! What they do reflex is wasted food from lack of customers eating most of it and not feeling well after. The food that tasted good was left empty and not refilled. Buffet City use to be my favorite restaurant, but they have changed. Their shrimp were great, they use to be deveined, but the last 3 times they were not. Their fish was not crispy & were small, soft pieces. They had one tiny crab leg in serving tray, they never refilled the tray. They are always small & usually only add a few pieces at a time. . Prices have changed, and the quality for food has gone down! Their prices have increased to $21.99 on weekends. All of their food is barely warm, no hot items on buffet. I've got to stop watching You Tube and all the Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai cooking shows. I keep craving noodle soup, lobster, shrimp and dim sum. Poor David, I keep dragging him to different places during this hot summer. We usually have lunch and go home and take a nap,lol! I really wanted to have crabs or shell fish today! We once went to the Buffet City in Ft. Myers and I was turned off. Today we drove about 22 miles to Buffet City in Port Charlotte. Located in a strip mall near a Publix and there was plenty of parking. The restaurant itself is very clean and neat. The enormous sushi bar is located in the front as you come in. There are a variety of hot and cold stations, including an American style with Roast Beef, Mac and cheese etc. on one side. We were seated towards the rear of the restaurant and I got hot tea and David iced tea. There is a grill coated on the right back, where you can pick out your food and have it prepared. I tried the salt and pepper crab, shrimp and crawfish. These were my favorites. I was given a crab claw cracker as soon as I sat down! That's all I needed. Lots of choices but I try to stick to the low carb. I also tried a few pieces of sushi, there were so many varieties to choose from, fresh shucked oysters, shrimp mussels etc. David goes for the desserts and I tried the soup instead lol! This was an above average Chinese buffet. The receptionist greeted me in a very polite way and took me to a nice table. The young lady server brought me my flatware and drinks. The food was hot and tasty. The steam was rising out of the steam tables, so I felt confident that the food was being kept at the right temperature. It was a good variety. The spaghetti and the pudding are great. The spaghetti is not too salty, not too sweet. The service is great; they gave me a lemonade in 1 minute. The ambiance is awesome because there is a pink blossom tree, a green blossom tree, and some very cool-looking chandeliers. read more

We have been to Buffet City for the past five years since we moved down here. We always loved it but the last couple times were very disappointing. We went for Father's Day and it was nuts. The food trays were empty especially the crab legs. The food that was there was warm at best. The ice cream cups were freezer burned and service to get a beverage or your check to leave was crazy. So we had a party of 5 . One of our guests could not eat but to a medical issue. He just wanted to enjoy being around the other 4 of us . Our waitress was told he wouldn't be eating and all he wanted was water . Holy fuck was she rude . She was told all parties was on one check . She came to our table to make sure he was t eating. He was not eating he couldn't. She then asked him to leave so we could go to a smaller table . She brought out two checks and made it a Point that she wasn't happy that we did y move . One of My favorite restaurants. I'm here almost every week. They're pretty good at refreshing the food as it gets low. Large selections of sushi and Asian entrees. There's a hibachi section where they cook the food of your choice which is also unlimited. Very delicious! They keep the areas clean and make sure everything is running smoothly. To be honest upfront I'm not a fan of buffets. I just don't typically eat a lot at one time. However, a family member really wanted to go, so I said I'd go. We decided to go at lunch because it's cheaper and we had a senior, so we wanted them to be able to get the senior lunch special. The board when you walked in said the normal prices, but once you got to the hostage stand there was a sign in sharpie on a piece of printer paper that said, "All Day 21.99." This is more than the typical dinner price! Having already walked in we decided even with the price increase simply because it was New Year's Day, but for nothing extra, we decided to stay. The food was almost all cold or tasted awful. The best I could find was the banana pudding and the egg rolls, and neither was amazing. The waitress was fine, she cleared the plates efficient enough. it's a very pretty place when you walk inside, you first notice the cherry blossom, then the Koi Pond. With rows of fresh hot food, the workers are nice and polite. Last Sunday we went to Buffet City at 2150 Tamiami Trl, Port Charlotte. This was not our first time there, but we decided to come there early and arrived when they opened at 11 AM. I have to say, this was a much better experience for us as it was not busy at all. The food was all so fresh and you could move easily and pick out the morsels you wanted with ease. The place was clean and bright and without all the people, it was actually delightful. One thing I appreciate about Buffet City is the sheer variety that you are presented with. The food was all good tasting and as I said, it was fresh. It is one of the best places around if you are entertaining picky eaters. Even the fussiest person is bound to find something they will like. They have everything from sushi to beef; green salad items to seafood salads. It's amazing the amount of different foods they prepare every day. If you are ever near Charlotte Square, you should stop in and see it for yourself. My server was conscientious and took care of all my needs. Unfortunately I was facing away from the magnificent entryway and table after table of food options. There is just too much to choose from from the sushi that greets you up front to the hibachi that is available in the back. There are you standard selection of soups to choose from. I selected the hot and sour sour and added to it from the appetizer section (seaweed salad, kimchi to give it more spice and cooked shrimp which I hate peeling but I did and cut and added to the soup - now a meal). I made two fatal mistakes. The first was having a healthy breakfast at my hotel this morning. The second was not reading all the reviews on Yelp. The prices have gone up quite a bit for a SENIOR LUNCH. They now charge $13.97 from 11AM until 3:45PM. OUCH. I was not that hungry to warrant paying that much. I ate one more plateful of my favorite Chinese dishes, butter shrimp, chicken broccoli, cream cheese filled wontons and pot stickers which I cover with Orange Sauce, and chicken teriyaki on a stick. My stomach did not have room for more and certainly not for salads, fruit, sushi, hibachi or dessert. Please understand you need to go extremely hungry or it is not worth the price that is on the check. There is no longer any posted signs of the price anywhere and because of this I rate them as average 3 (although the food is 4).
