First time going here, we ordered take out. Our regular place was closed so we tried them. What a pleasant surprise, people were extremely polite and friendly. This is by far THE BEST Chinese food I have had since I moved here 7 years ago!!! This review is based on what I ordered, house special lo mein, house special fried rice. The Rice house knows how to flavor their food! The lo mein noodles were so filled with flavor they were a nice darker color than most I have had at other restaurants in my closest area. The fried rice had a fabulous flavor as well. The rice was also a nice darker color as well showing both dishes were not cheap with seasoning or vegetables, shrimp, chicken. All the other nearby take out businesses have NO FLAVOR based on the same food I ordered mentioned above. The egg rolls were NOT GREASY at all!!! The take portions were the normal quantities. It is well worth the additional drive time to eat here then other places in Venice I tried. I took me 7 years to finally find the best local Chinese/Thai food restaurant!!! read more

In a search for tasty Chinese/American food we decided to try 4 dishes at Rice House over a week's time. We tried Pork Chop Suey, Egg Foo Young, Mongolian Beef, and Hunan Chicken. First impression was a very clean restaurant eating area and friendly people to take the orders. Each time we tried the meals we found an amazing consistency-all of them tasted the same. The food was not fresh and had no taste. I asked for the Hunan Chicken to be "medium+" in spice and it arrived bland and not even slightly spicy. They may be excellent at rice but I was hoping they were at least decent at food as well. If you enjoy GOOD Chinese food, I doubt you will find much here. read more

Everything I've had here was delicious, but the shrimp fried rice is the best I've had locally, and the staff is really great. The only negative thing is when I asked for my General Tso Chicken to be extra spicy I didn't taste any difference in heat from the previous visit...I'm sure it is the result of too many people complaining about the heat who have no business ordering spicy food in the first place. What a pleasant surprise this place was. We had tried to go here once before but they only had take out during the pandemic. We went here for lunch, place was very clean and service was very good. started with Wonton Soup, it was ok. next we had the Pu-Pu platter for 2 along with a pork fried rice. The rice was the closest resemblance of the fried rice we would eat and New England, it also had the closet taste. The ingredients in the Pu-Pu were very good, from the chicken wings, crab rangoon, ribs along with steak on a stick. a good find! read more

Their delivery was over 45 minutes late. They are 4.5 miles from my house and every time I called they told me that they were minutes away. The food has been consistently good and I was very pleased that they improved so greatly and seemed to be even better each time I ordered! Last night was the BIG exception. I ordered a pu pu platter and house special fried rice. The platter was awful...shoved in a Styrofoam box that leaked all over. It contained 2 of each crab rangoon severely lacking filling, ribs too tough to chew, some kind of shoe leather beef that used to come on a stick, now just laying there like a black cow patty, 2 egg rolls, 2 chicken wings; whole. All this for $17.00! The house special rice had 1 shrimp in it but a bunch of chicken. So disappointed...nobody in the restaurant so its not like they were swamped. Just lazy. A few years ago the Rice House was the place to go, it was filled to capacity each evening, then it was sold and gradually became the place to stay away from, over the past few years we have dropped in to see if had gotten better. Sadly, it is not the place to go for a while it was hit or miss and you gambled. Last week we ordered take out for six people and at a hefty price. It is embarrassing for me to say that the food was the epitome of pit slop and not one of the six people ate anything ordered, into the garbage pit. Why didn't I take it back? Because I was so mad I would have exploded on the staff. Chose to never recommend or go there again, some folks are slow learners and I guess I'm one of them. I do not write nasty reviews, I try to be positive and constructive. We dine out 3 or 4 nites a week and have travelled world wide and I can say this was the worse experience I have ever had. Don't Get turned away from the dim post Corona outward appearance of this place. Food here is very good. The House Special Fried Rice! OMG! Even my wife who doesn't crave Chinese food like I do, Loves it. Comes with pork, chicken and shrimp but it's the texture and flavor that makes it. Like an authentic fried rice from China. So far I've tried hot sour soup, really juicy boneless spare ribs, chicken wings(not old tasting like most places) and Generals Tso Chicken... All among the best I've had. Only reason I didnt give them a five was because Pork Fried Dumolings were a little greasy. They still had a good tasting filling. Decided to give this place a try knowing Christmas and couldn't have been more pleased. They were slammed but my order was still done by the promised time and it was fresh and tasty. I really hate to be THAT person that gives a bad review. But when it warrants it, I just can't help it. We chose Rice House because I had heard from several people in the area that this was hands down the BEST Chinese restaurant around (family members included). After a long Saturday, the hubby and I headed out for a late dinner. The restaurant was about half-full with the empty tables still with the last guests plates there. We were seated after a few minutes of standing in the doorway. The waitress took our drink order promptly ... but the service was a bit rough after that. With a Thai/Chinese combined menu, it took a few minutes but we ironed out our orders. It also took a bit for the waitress to return to take our food orders. She kind of seemed lost. I ordered the steamed dumplings as an app and the Pad Woon Sing with Shrimp (which is "Bean thread noodle stir-fried w. eggs and variety of fresh vegs in sweet soy sauce") for an entree. The hubby got steak on a stick as an app and sesame chicken as an entree. If we were rating on appetizers alone, this would have been a 3-star review. The steamed dumplings were hot, flavorful and I loved the sauce to dip in. The Steak on a stick tasted off and were not up to par when compared to other steak-on-a-sticks. Then, the entrees came out. The sesame chicken looked good but the rice served along side it was only about a cup's worth if that. This is called the "Rice House", right? The Pad Woon Sing just looked so not appetizing on the plate. It looked like dog food almost, slop at its worst. The shrimp were hidden by the noodles and sauce. Then we tasted the entrees - the Pad Woon Sing was edible but extremely salty (I mean wow salty) and repeated on me all night into the next day to the point were I thought I was going to be ill. The sesame chicken was disgusting. Most of the pieces served contained grizzle, not even real chicken meat. And the pieces were over-breaded, causing the chicken to not even cook properly. The chicken itself was drowning in the sauce to the point were it was no longer appetizing ... It was gross. Hubby ate his rice and left half of the chicken behind. The price for two entrees and two appetizers came out to over $37, which is extremely expensive (can you say overpriced much)? This is North Port, not Manhattan. Not to mention the food quality is so subpar you should pay people to eat it not charge them outrageous prices. I will definitely NEVER return here or recommend it to anyone I come in contact with. We waited over 3 years before trying this place again. Shouldn't have bothered. The meals we received were so bad we threw them away. Even the rice wasn't worth eating. The cooks must be making up their own recipes based on what they have. Not a recognizable Asian flavor in anything we ordered. Just very unpleasant. We ordered Pad Thai, and I think perhaps they should stick to Chinese food! The Pad Thai was bright reddish/orange in color, the noodles were slightly mushy. I ordered mine with tofu to substitute the chicken, and they only gave me tofu, no shrimp. The tofu was mushy and not stir fried, so it was completely tasteless with a gross texture. It was not honored, refused to give me the soup, saying it is for take out only; which coupon does not indicate , it says " doesn't (spelt wrong) apply to lunch" They told me they did not even have a website. It looks like their website to me, pictures of the restaurant is in the website, menu looks the same. The phone number address and front of restaurant is on website. Wanted some thing different for a late lunch being a visitor to the area . The exterior is simple and the open sign was illuminated , so let's give it a go. Once inside we were greeted with smiles and a welcome . It is a "homey" warm family store, as it seemed . To the food .... mixed vegetable platter was abundant , prepared perfectly ( to our taste ) and was missing nothing. It wouldn't have mattered since we waited an additional 25 minutes. Then to add insult to injury they offered us two cans of soda as a consolation. How about 20% off the bill? They are very accommodating, they do not nickle and dime every little substitution like some places. You can order any item on the menu with no added MSG.
