I ordered a spicy chicken and broccoli dinner. The rice that came with the dinner was lukewarm and stuck together. The pieces of chicken were small and pretty much tastless. The broccoli was the only thing in the order that I would classify as "OK". The sauce was very oily and tasted terrible. It was hard to rate the rest of the order because the terrible sauce covered up any good taste that may have been there. Oh, it wasn't the slight bit spicy. In short, the food was terrible. The order was taken promptly and it was out of the kitchen in less than 10 minutes so that was good. I would much rather wait a little longer and it taste better. $10 for a small portion. While I have not eaten inside the restaurant, I use their takeout about 2 or 3 times a month. My husband and I love the food. It's absolutely delicious. As for the wait time? I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my food. We have tried several items from the menu and have not once been disappointed. It's all amazingly delicious. read more

This is a solid Chinese takeout spot. They are super quick and friendly. We ordered two combinations, which were perfectly packed and included fried rice and chicken/pork plus an egg roll. Shrimp "SPECIAL" paid $8 for fried shrimp, not deveined so i pretty much paid for shrimp SHIT. very sad because it looked so good when i opened the box, even paid $1 extra for sweet and sour sauce which was decently sized for dipping sauce. Girl who took my order was very sweet but who ever prepared the food was careless and it SHOWS! *Update- called back after dissatisfaction set in and asked if there was any way to remedy situation, essentially because I threw the food away I can not be issued refund. went back because I was still in plaza took food out of garbage and proceeded to tear off breading to show how majority of what I threw away was not deveined. THEY ALREADY KNEW IT WASN'T BECAUSE ITS THE "CHEAPER" OPTION OF SHRIMP THEY OFFER. Was told if i ordered jumbo shrimp it would've been deveined. Even the fried rice was tasteless. Don*the disappointed just try Number 1 Wok. Always a perfect meal and the best hot and sour soup I have ever eaten. I found this Chinese Restaurant to be much better than the others that I tried in this area and I am very picky about my Chinese food. All of the ingredients were very fresh, as was the cooking oil that was used. You can often tell a bad Chinese restaurant just by the smell of old oil when walking in. I was surprised by the negative reviews, but very pleased with my orders. I realize some people are hard to please and when it comes to Chinese food, I am one of them. The Food was good! I may say vv good but it was the Wrong Order! I got some others persons Crab Rangoon ( not good, it was tasteless!) but I don't eat Crab Rangoon. I did phone New China regarding them giving me the wrong order but it was just 15 mins to closing time and far too late for me to even cope with going back! Update: Even though the cooks usually tend to rotate out every 6-9 months in these sort of places the food here has still been good. Probably thanks to mgmt. Only issues were the pork w garlic was mild vs extra spicy as ordered (this happens more & more), and the dumplings, while BIG, were short on flavor. No big deal. A very good meal! It seems that Chinese food that proclaims it is "New York" style tends to be heavy on the protein (for me) and lighter on the veggies. From now on I'm ordering a small portion of the main dish to which I'll add a small portion of veggies, I really don't need a big piece of chicken or pork in every bite. read more

New China located in a corner of a strip mall next to Publix. You order at the counter from a vast selection of menu items. We tried to pick a variety of items to get an idea of the overall quality of their food. The egg rolls and spring rolls reminded us of freezer food. The won ton soup was too yellow to be a natural color but had ok flavor with a salty chicken bullion aftertaste. The chicken lo mein could have used more chicken but was pretty good. The noodles seemed like they were about three feet long. General's chicken had a nice spicy sauce but too much coating on the individual pieces. Not sure if it's prepped there or purchased frozen. Chicken w/broccoli was average. So, service was extremely fast, I liked that they offered a small and large option for many of their dishes. Overall, probably 3 1/2 stars. We will be back ordering different dishes. Hoping to make this our go-to place for our Chinese food fix. read more

Overall I think the food is pretty good. I ordered the General Tao's chicken extra spicy, pork fried rice with an egg roll and wonton egg drop soup. The chicken tasted good, not dry or over cooked and they gave me a lot of it. The soup was good, it could have used a little bit more salt but that's just my preference. The rice was flavorful and it wasn't dry. By no means it's five-star gourmet Chinese food, you're ordering it from a strip mall next to a Publix but for what it is, it was pretty good. We have ordered from New China before and it's been ok, but this time we had a bad experience. We ordered 2 egg rolls, 1 spring roll, garlic chicken and szechwan beef. The entrees wrre ok, nothimg spectacular, bit all 3 rolls tasted like they were fried in old oil. Couldn't even eat them. We called them to let them know and the girl that answered the phone said they just changed the oil yesterday. She didn't care that we were unhappy and offered no apology, refund or correction. Was in the mood for some Chinese food. This was a convenient stop for us so we ventured in. Ordered a simple Kung Pao chicken dish and a Chow mein. The KP was bland and had little chicken in it. The CM was void of noodles and when asked about this the management said this is how they make it. Not right. Just a little beef and a lot of onion and cabbage. We asked if they would include some and was promptly denied unless we wanted a full order. Lovely attitude. Go to Publix and just buy their stuff it can only be an improvement. read more

Such a shame!! We have lived in Punta Gorda for 5 years and are always looking for good Oriental food. Finally decided to try this place. The food was good, but the customer service was so horrendous that we will not return. I am not the first nor will I be the last to complain about Michelle - the girl at the register. She was extremely rude and could hardly be bothered with us. She was able to smile at some of the customers, but treated us like trash. Sorry, New China, you have lost what would have been a regular. My husband and I have been living in PGI for 11 years and never walked into the New China restaurant. A restaurant that we favored closed its doors so we were looking for a new go-to Chinese restaurant. Well we FOUND it! Yay!! The food was incredible. Prices were excellent, portions were very good.
