He came over with a Menu after taking my drink order. I decided to go with their honey bbq wings, New England clam chowder and Hawaiin Burger. The guy behind the bar was friendly and kept striking up conversation with myself and the other gentleman. My wings came out and I must say, these golden temptations weren't just slightly crisp but met my tastebuds with a sweetness about them, that when dipped into the blue cheese; only set off a powerful bite that was creamy and a bit tangy. I had fun with the rollercoaster of taste upon these wings. As for my Clam Chowder. It was chunky and had much going on. Clams came packed with a degree of seasonings that started out good but ended in a bad way for the chowder was a bit too salty. This chowder would be the perfect start to. any meal in the winter, had it not been for the saltiness of it all; taking away from what could be its own star of a chowder show. Now my fries, bliss in a bite with just the right amount of salt upon them and a crispiness to be reckoned with. Even the burger made my mouth happy with its freshness on the beef; made to order. Didn't taste like frozen pot luck beef at all. Seasoned just right and the pineapples, along with onion crisps held enough flavor to transcend this burger into the next phase of its life...The bun was toasted both inside and out, holding the components together for a nice barrage of burger bliss. Not bad at all!

On top of that, it was undercooked in the middle, which made it pretty unappetizing and honestly concerning. I also tried the calamari, which I would strongly recommend avoiding. It was rubbery, greasy, and lacked any real flavor. Definitely not worth the price. Overall, the food quality was far below expectations, and I wouldn't go back. Plus I saw some roaches by the bathroom

I chose to get the veggie burger with fries and my boyfriend got the outlaw burger smashed with eggplant fries. The veggie burger was made in house and excellent, but definitely needed two hands and many napkins to eat. It was the perfect amount of spicy. The fries are shoe string and crispy and delicious. They also had fantastic, soft gluten free buns which is rare to find. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger, too. He also loved my fries (typical) and his fries. My boyfriend also got a strawberry milkshake that he said was excellent. I had a strawberry mojito and it was STRONG but good. Definitely made the drink worth the money. The only thing I didn't like on the plate was the pickles. The waitress said they were made in house "bread and butter" style but they kind of just tasted like honey. I'm a pickle lover and these ones did not do it for me. The resturant itself was comfortable (with their own parking lot which is rare in West Hartford) but I didn't love the layout. It kind of reminded me of a church community center with a bunch of tables in a basement and not the best artwork. Compared to other Max locations, this one's decor was a little lack luster. I also did not love that there was a charge to have my fries prepared in a separate gluten free fryer. That being said, this was a solid, higher end burger restaurant with a unique menu and plenty of non-burger options.

For my meal I ordered the fried chicken plate which came with mash, corn and biscuit.. it was so good. Everything was seasoned well and it was a decent portion for the price we paid. My brother got the chicken parm and completely cleaned his plate, so I believe it was really tasty lol The restaurant definitely gave sports bar feels and had TVs all around for easy viewing; great drink collection and the best bar food. Would definitely go back!

Honestly, after reading the reviews, I wasn't too confident I would even be able to eke on in for dinner, but my God was I able to get in, and thank the LORD I was able to find a parking spot with such a full lot of cars! What started as a solo trip to J Timothy's became a welcome table event when fellow Yelper Angie showed up with her husband and invited me over to their table. I'm SO glad we were able to have that happen! It became one of the best post-event dinners I've had yet. It did take a bit of time to decide between the three of us, but we eventually split our checks, with me taking care of my order and Angie taking care of the rest. We had Kate as a waitress, and might I say, she was not only nice and efficient, but she was very knowledgeable of the menu and very helpful and accommodating. I immediately requested a take-out box and she delivered just like that. She was even knowledgeable on what foods and such were made in-house and what wasn't, which is honestly very impressive! Also note, we all got to have a taste of everything that came in tonight, so we got lots of food to get to! We did have the wings for our appetizers. I did the 10-wing Dirt Style Honey BBQ Gold for mine, and they got I wanna say 20(?) Buffalo wings. They were cooked to perfection, and I was able to twist the bones off the flats. Both flavors were good, but even though it could possibly be my bias talking, I did prefer my flavor of wings. I will say the Buffalo had that signature spice level there, but it didn't overpower the wing, which is awesome! Oh, and there were also the potato skins which was rated perfectly, and that tasted really good as well. For the entrees, this is why I immediately requested the box. My order was the full rack of ribs. Angie got the chicken pot pie. Usually, I don't eat pot pies, but the one Angie ordered was honestly very good. Flaky, buttery crust top, and savory filling or chicken, potatoes, peas, etc. As for my ribs, whenever I tried to cut them, all the meat kept falling off the bone! That's how you know it was cooked properly! And dear God were these ribs were delicious, succulent, and delicious! Did I mention they were delicious? The BBQ sauce was a symphony of bliss that helped make each bite of rib taste like I went to Cloud Nine! The coleslaw it came with was good, but it's not something I would say can compete with the South. But good all the same. Drinks were great too. I got the Dragon Fruit Martini(?), and that was sweet and relaxing to have after a long summer and a long drive to Plainville. Oh, and we also got dessert! Again we picked different things: Angie ordered the "Not Fried Chicken" while I went with the Key Lime Pie. Wherever these guys get their key lime pie from, keep them coming and let me know so I can get some more myself! The raspberry sauce was a great choice for accompaniment and complimented the pie nicely. And the slice was divine! The Not Fried Chicken is a very innovative idea, and it tasted good as well. I can see now why this place gets so much love. It's insane how good this place is in just about every aspect! The sink did take a bit to learn, but that was about my only criticism, other than that this place easily gets 5 stars from me, and I am so glad to have had this dinner with Angie and meet her husband. #KeepYelping

A friend of mine took me here for lunch after church during a recent visit to CT. The interior was…read morerustic, comfortable, and spacious with 2 levels. We chose booth seating on the 2nd floor, which was cozy, and boasted a cool view of the downstairs area. For my beverage, I chose the Cherry mocktail, which was oh so fizzy, refreshing, and a nice mix of sweet and tart. We shared the Chili Dirt Wings and Fried Calamari. The Wings were fried twice and generously sauced. They were satisfyingly crispy and full of bold flavor with a bit of a kick. The Fried Calamari was light and crunchy. I had a tough time selecting my entree, but finally went with Taverne Grilled Meatloaf. This dish consisted of beef and pork meatloaf, loaded mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables. The Meatloaf was cooked perfectly on the char-broiler, giving it a slightly smoky taste and bit of caramelization, then smothered in a tomato glaze. Meatloaf was delightfully tender and well seasoned. Loaded Mashed Potatoes was mouthwatering, covered in melty cheese, bacon, and scallions. Veggies included carrots, zucchini, squash and had a great consistency, adding a fresh element to the dish. For dessert, I had to get one of my favorites: Sticky Toffee Pudding. Their version was a moist, dense sponge Bundt cake with caramel sauce. It was decent, but overly sticky sweet even for me. Service was solid. Our waitress was welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything came out in a timely manner. If I return, I would want to try the Shepherd's Pie, Boneless Braised Short Ribs, or Pierogies and Kielbasa.

The reason for this review is to warn patrons NOT to use the pre-calculated "suggested tip" amounts on the receipt which DO NOT represent the percentages shown. First, they are calculated on the total WITH TAX, which is always a no-go, & an extra -4.5% is added in over that, making a suggested 18% tip over 22%. Due to average service, I tipped $65 x 0.15 =$10.00. Note that $65 x 0.18 =$11.70, not $14.72. And $70.79 x 0.18 =$12.74, not $14.72 either, & $14.72 / $65 =0.226 or 22.6%. The amount listed for 20%, $16.36 is actually $16.36 / $65 =0.252, or 25%. The amount listed for 22%, $17.99 is actually $17.99 / $65 =0.277, or 28%! This is FRAUD perpetuated on the public by the corporate head office, since the restaurant manager said that their software which controls the registers is controlled by corporate, not by them locally. No doubt that the waitress or waiter gets the actual percentage amount calculated on the food total (in this case $65), & the corporate office keeps the rest. My suggestion is to calculate your own percentage tip based on the food total & don't be a gullible lazy tipper! The food & service were good.. the payment software was bad.

I decided to get the dry rub of Nashville hot and sweet dry rub. If I had to pick which one is better it's def the sweet dry rub! Nashville hot has a kick to it, it wasn't bad at all. Someone also told me to try the garlic parm sauce and I'm glad I did. I typically don't crave garlic parm, but this was delicious! I was wow'd by it. Side sauces I got the typical ranch, Buffalo, mango habanero, and open Pitt. Open Pitt was a bbq mix tang sauce that I enjoyed. Mango habanero isn't as spicy as bww but still good to try. The fries are crispy and hot! I don't know what oil they used, but even coming home it was still crispy to eat and not soggy at all! Def do not skip the French fries, so gooood!!
