This restaurant changed management last summer and has a whole new menu and owner and it is THE best. We stayed in the North Cascades over Labor Day and ate at every restaurant in the area! This one is by far the BEST. We had talked to the new owner, who had brought us our food and thanked him graciously. I didn't get a chance to eat here so I cant speak to the quality of the food or service but please read on. The parking lot for this establishment has signs posted saying it is for their establishment only. These signs are clearly posted and I saw them. We parked to give our dog some water and we were looking for a place to eat after we were done. I was going to go across the street to see this restaurant but before I could leave my vehicle an older man came around the corner and told me it was not public parking and that I would be towed. He told me it was parking for his restaurant only. I told him I saw the signs and asked him if his resturaunt had seating for a party of eight. He said he was sure there was because they have seating for 100 and was very rude about it. Because of the way he treated me I decided to move my vehicle and eat somewhere else. Once I moved my vehicle and I was walking past the Buffalo Run Inn the man proceeded to start a confrontation with me. He told me that I needed to go back to school and learn to read, that I was a Democrat (using this as a insult), that there was a Korean place across the street that would better fit me, and that he was going to punch me in the face. I can not say that I was completely calm and did not return some choice words to him but he was very out of line. If I could give this place *no stars*, I would. My family and I just came from Diablo lake and saw this place earlier, decided to give it a try. The signs read "open", but we were unsure because nobody was around to seat us (despite there being a full table way off in the corner). We waited a full 5 minutes in an essentially empty restaurant. After finally being seated under the bison trophy, our waitress went to attend to other things before even asking what we wanted to drink (about 5 more minutes). We looked through the menu for kids stuff and this place had no kids menu. So my kids were forced to share the special of the day (an angus burger, which didn't have a price on it, and ended up being more expensive than the elk and bison burger). Fries were extra, so we had to buy another order of fries so the kids would stop complaining. When the "burgers" came out they were more than a disappointment. These fresh from the freezer, pre made patties were exceedingly small and lacked almost any semblance of flavor. The place is expensive, and the food quality is worse than any fast food joint. Save your money, and run to the gas station next door. I wish I had four hands, so I could give this place four thumbs down. read more

THERE ARE TWO BETTER RESTAURANTS ON THE SAME BLOCK OF THIS ONE BLOCK TOWN. ... Buffalo Run is high school cafeteria quality food for a base $15 per plate. But then there are upcharges for EVERYTHING... fries $3, soda refills 50¢, cheese on your burger $1, extra plates $2 each. I walked away paying $35 for one bacon cheeseburger with fries and one IPA. They have no kids menu and will charge you an additional $2 per plate to split with your kids. No prices on the adult beverage menu. Wine is listed as 'Merlot', 'Syrah'... The selection is so poor there's no need for listing anything but varietal. They could have said 'Red' or 'White' or just 'Wine' and it would have been equally as helpful. They didn't even have the 'Syrah' I ordered. I had to fall back on the beer menu where the selection is what you might find in any convenience store on highway 20. Mondo (yum!) is literally right next door to Buffalo Run (yuck!) and has everything you need in terms of both food and beverage selection. I had the elk burger there last time I was in Marblemount and it really hit the spot. Also, they have a huge selection of beer, etc, in a huge wraparound beer cooler. And the prices were reasonable then but now that I've been gouged at BR I know Mondo is an amazingly affordable restaurant. They should get extra kudos because they don't jack up their prices just because BR's is already high. Finally, Marblemount Diner gets more than an honorable mention. We ate here last Labor Day. I gave it a 3-star review on TripAdvisor, stating that the service was lackluster, The Hubs was underwhelmed by his burger, but that the soup I ordered was delicious. The marketing manager replied by insulting me in an inarticulate that response from which I inferred they think I'm too cheap to appreciate their food. I was shocked by this. I started reading other responses to peoples' reviews. Going back several years, the marketing manager tells people who complain about the prices that they should consider eating at the mission where the food is free. They're abusive to people who leave a review that contains any criticism. This place opened with new owners about two weeks ago. My partner and I came for a meal after hiking Diablo Lake and it was a great choice. We sat in the outside area which had an awesome atmosphere with some cool bulb lights and some mellow Johnny Cash in the background. The food was also delicious, she had the wings, I had pulled pork (with an awesome cumin bbq sauce), and we shared a fry basket and a soft pretzel. I am so impressed with Buffalo Run are at aura right! First off, let me say it appears there may be new owners or something because these other reviews are not accurate. My mom and I came here after a long day of hiking, as most people there also were doing, and were surprised to see a charming outdoor area with beautiful moss trees and hanging lights - also very covid safe and all staff were wearing masks, we ordered the Cesar salad with salmon and the chili and were so impressed with both! The salmon was just incredible and fresh and so perfectly done and crispy on the outside. We heard the salmon chowder is amazing too! The drink selection was great, and the cheesecake for dessert was yummy! 5 star experience - definitely stop by here! read more

They had some very expensive buffalo steaks, which may be good but wasn't going to be the one to try it. Got a club sandwich and chicken fingers. Food was good, just pricey for 2 very basic dishes, $15 each. While the sandwich was a good portion, the chicken fingers was only 3 pieces with fries. That's a very small portion for almost $15. Buffalo Run? More like Buffalo Runs. Currently writing this review from the bathroom where I've been locked for an hour after eating here. Wish my phone had service in the area so I could have read all the reviews saying steer clear of this place and the crazy owner. Ordered the cheese fries appetizer to split with my friends. It came out after the rest of our food. Worst purchase ever. $10 for a handful of fries and a piece of kraft cheese. Not to mention we had to ask twice for the side of ketchup and ranch that was supposed to come with it. The burgers were at best mediocre and the meat is not cooked to your liking. All of the food is way overpriced. $52 for 2 crap burgers, 2 Pepsi, 1 beer, and those lame excuse for cheese fries. We watched the surly woman berate a foreign waitress by the register. When we went to pay an employee ran outside with our credit card with no explanation. As we were getting in the car the surly woman mad dog stared at us through the fence while holding the hot sauce in her hand awkwardly. We surely hope other poor souls driving through the area have better service and can see these reviews that perfectly sum up this place or they are lucky enough to find road kill on the side of the road. Worst decision ever. Sadly my phone had no service and I couldn't see all the terrible reviews that paint the perfect picture of this place. My husband and I each got a buffalo burger which was already marked at a steep price. At first this didn't bother me because I thought maybe I'd get what I paid for. That's not the case here. Worst rip off ever. They nickel and dime you for everything from a slice of cheese to regular toppings besides a piece of lettuce and onion. We bought the extra side of bacon, which was again way overpriced for one measly limp piece of bacon. Our entire bill was $33 for two bland burgers and one bottle of beer. We hope all the lost souls looking for a hot meal outside the mountains have enough luck to pass this place up or a signal to see these reviews. Let me start by saying I am not a high-maintenance kind of guy. I'm a cook in a restaurant in Seattle, so I have a great empathy for my fellow industry workers. That being said, this is absolutely the worst place I have ever eaten. Me and some friends had spent a few nights in the backwoods at ross lake and stopped by on our drive back to Seattle to get some food. I should have been a little wary of the 'world famous' hook... there weren't many other options around, so we decided to give it a try. Our waitress was nice, she was kind of frazzled and forgetful, but she was the only one on the floor (maybe a 'world famous' restaurant should be adequately staffed). She spent as much time with our table as she could, answering our questions and keeping our drinks full. We ordered two appetizers and looked through their menu. The waitress informed me that all their meats came from a local farm and butcher. With that in mind, I ordered a venison burger. Others at my table ordered the elk burger, the kangaroo burger, a philly cheesesteak, and something off of the vegan menu (I can't recall what it was). After a few minutes, the food arrived. The burgers patties were so minuscule that it would literally be impossible to cook them any less than medium-well. Each burger tasted almost identical- a flavorless, rubbery slab of grayish meat; I would not be surprised if they were microwaving store-bought freezer patties. All of this piled upon a dry bun, buried under an overwhelming amount of vegetables. We finished our entrees and ordered dessert, which seemed to be the highlight of the meal. Their pies were good, nothing memorable though. Our waitress dropped our bill on the table.. we all froze up. Somehow we had racked up a 40something dollar per-person tab (and not a single one of us ordered alcohol!). We all had cash on hand, except for one of my friends who was going to take care of the rest of the bill on his card. As we approached the register, we were given dirty looks by some tired old man with a tattooed forearm- i regret not asking his name. He counted out our cash, and before we could explain that my friend would take care of the remainder on his card, he belted out "WELL ARE YOU GONNA TIP THE LADY?"... Absolutely outrageous. (Don't worry, we tipped her, despite that asshole). We all left soon after, pretty flustered by the entire experience. If you're ever driving by and entertain the idea of going there, please, for your own good, go somewhere else. Eating gas station burritos is preferable to this trainwreck. read more

I led a car club drive to the area and we stopped in for lunch. We sat outside at many of the tables on the patio and shortly afterwards the owner/manager (?) came out yelling for who was in charge of the group. He proceeded to "tear me a new one" because we hadn't alerted him ahead of time. I apologized and then pointed out that everyone in our group was enjoying pleasant conversation amongst ourselves, we were not in a hurry, and that we usually tip very well. The gentleman grumbled and barked several more times about how it was difficult for his staff to accomodate all the people, etc. I again apologized and ponted out that we hadn't filled all the tables. After he left, one of the Harley bikers at the next table leaned over and said "Did he just chew you out for bringing all this business into his restaurant?". I smiled and agreed - it was abusive. The food ended up being adequate as a novelty but expensive. As we left, one of the ladies wanted to buy a cookie at the front counter and when she went up the cashier refused to sell her one stating "we're too busy to sell you a cookie" I'm planning another trip, and have scouted out the area, had a great meal elsewhere. I am sorry to have to add to the "meh" reviews. I had high hopes in spite of those reviews. I was all for ordering me up a slab of elk or buffalo steak, but the prices versus the atmosphere and service suggested I stick with something more classic. You would think with $45 elk medallion meals listed on the menu, that the place might not look like a divey diner, but it sure does. On to what actually matters, though, the food!! I went with the lunch version of the buffalo burger. The patty was so thin, I could barely even taste the meat! And I love red onions, but I had to pick a ton off! There was no flavor. And since it was the lunch burger, even though it was 8:30 at night, I got chips. I was told by the waitress to not do the Tatonka burger because it was gigantic, but I didn't realize I was missing out on the french fries. :( I like the taste of buffalo, and I was excited to taste buffalo, but alas... My boyfriend got the Bavarian Bratwurst dinner... it left a lot to be desired for the $20 they charged us. The bratwurst were tasty enough, but the noodles (may have called them linguine, but they were NOT linguine noodles) were soggy and unflavored. There was no sauce. It was just plain bratwurst and plain noodles on a plate together. Our friends got the $18 Chicken Breast dinner with french fries, even though one ordered a baked potato. Too hungry to care, they went to town on it. It looked fine, but I would not have been happy to pay that much for a plain chicken breast and french fries... All in all, this was rather disappointing. It was our first time in the area, and it was so beautiful that I know we will be returning...but not to Buffalo Run Restaurant... By the way, if you are going East on State Route 20, there are signs all over for Buffalo Run, and it is the first restaurant that you see in Marblemount (tiny tiny little town that it is), so you may think that is your only option. On the way to twisp we stopped to get something to eat, we were traveling with our little dog. We asked one employee if we could have our dog in the outdoor patio area, he said yes. However, our waitress told us she had to ask the owner. A lady I assume is the owner came out, yelling at us immediately, "this is an outside dining are we can't have your dog, peeing everywhere". And on and on, I think she was trying to tell us that there was an area we could sit at with our dog. Her nasty attitude and yelling, we were out of there. No thank you. We came into the Buffalo Run on a Sunday around 11:30 or so, seriously hungry because we hadn't had anything to eat yet that day. When my friend went in to ask if they were open, and if there was breakfast, she was told Denny's was the only breakfast place around...not really what we were looking for as we had eaten in the rest of the weekend and wanted to try something fun and local. I split a venison burger with my friend, others in our party had a kangaroo burger, a salmon burger and a regular beef burger. We also tried out the local version of Rocky Mountain Oysters - deep friend testicles with tartar sauce...fun enough in concept, but most of us felt a little queasy after finishing our food. Our waitress was also a bit distracted , got my friend's order a bit mixed up, and overall wasn't very friendly. We asked if the meat was from the ranch across from our lodgings down Highway 20, she replied that there certainly weren't enough buffalo there to satisfy the demand so they flew other meat in. I wish I had perused the yelp reviews before making our trip to the area, as there isn't much cell phone reception except for Verizon. Coming out of the Cascade Loop at about 11 am on a Sunday, we were looking for breakfast/brunch. Stopped at the first place we saw, which was this joint. Big mistake. Once inside, looking at a menu, we noted no breakfast. Asked why not at 11 am - got a shrug from the waitress. Asked her if there was anyplace else close by that is serving breakfast - "Denny's about 1 hour & a half away" came her smart-ass answer. So I ordered the baked potato - don't ask me why - at $10.95, I was expecting something wonderful - and honey ordered the turkey/swiss sandwich and requested they add bacon. Potato - meh. Sandwich - pitiful; it had two very thin slices of turkey - when you held it up, you could pretty much see through it - one small slice of cheese and two teeny-tiny pieces of bacon that they had the balls to charge extra for (shaking head). And the waitress did not check back to see if we were happy - we had to go look for her to get our check. You'd think seeing almost two full plates of food that something was wrong; did she bother to ask? No. Wondered if we still wanted the two lattes and a monster cookie to go - we said in the beginning that we would - told her no, thank you; don't bother. Left very unsatisfied. What made it worse, there were several places before we hit "civilization" again that we could have tried - either the young lady out & out lied or just had no clue as to the area she lived/worked in. read more

We walked in and immediately saw that they weren't ready for guests even though their open sign was on. We asked the lady at the cash register if they were open and if we could bring our small puppies to the outside patio. She was rude and acted like we should know that they weren't open yet. We went outside to wait the 15 minutes until they opened. Once outside, my husband and I discussed if we should stay since the customer service was not great and we had such bad vibes from them. Do Not Eat Here!!!!!! Owner was very very rude!!!! Made us wait at the front door of the EMPTY restaurant until the waitress came out to seat us...even though we let her know we wanted to be outside. The food took longer than we are used to, small portions, obviously not fresh, and was too pricey.My military husband legally carries a gun. Our four year old spilled his lemonade ( they gave him an adult lemonade with no lid.....) and then charged us for a "refill" at three dollars a pop, the lemonade was six dollars of our bill. The patio seating area was really lovely, but that is the only good thing I have to say about this place. I had a venison burger that I'm pretty sure was really a buffalo burger - didn't taste like venison at all. My husband had a grilled cheese sandwich which consisted of 2 slices of whilte bread with what looked like a slice of American cheese. The owner was very grumpy and very rude. Great place near the North Cascades! The older reviews do not reflect the recent change in ownership. The food is very good and the service even better! I had the wings (A+) and the pulled pork sandwich. It's now run by a friendly couple from Philly that knows good food. As someone from that area myself, I appreciate some of that influence they've brought to rural Washington. They're very interested in feedback on their menu and more than willing to offer hiking and sightseeing tips! read more
