I came in about a week or two ago to sell clothes for the first time and had such a great experience at the Buffalo Exchange in Sherman Oaks. Maeve and Shay at the selling counter were both super friendly and easy to talk to. They walked me through what they look for and how everything works, which made the whole process feel really comfortable and low-pressure. I never felt rushed or awkward -- just genuinely taken care of. It honestly made me want to go home, grab more stuff, and come back to sell again... and probably shop too. This review will be split into two parts: shopping and selling. I have experiences with both so it's worth it to review the different aspects. Part 1: Shopping Buffalo Exchange has a lot of cute, quirky and trendy pieces for sale. I once got a white seashell purse there that is adorable and has become my unofficial wedding guest purse (it has come with to an international wedding and an East Coast wedding already!) Prices are higher than what you'd pay at a Goodwill or Salvation Army. It's also slightly smaller than those other stores. But we love shopping secondhand to help the planet, regardless of where you choose. You truly can find one of a kind pieces here. Part 2: Selling Here's where things get tricky. I've sold with them many times before, with varying levels of success. They can be picky at times, probably because of the volume of clothes people try to bring in, but I still keep trying. I don't think you make back an adequate amount but there have been many times where I've settled on whatever they chose to pay me because I wanted it out of my place. You get more in store credit than cash, and they're good about telling you how much you'd get with each option. They've introduced a virtual waitlist system where you scan a QR code and enter your info so you'll know your place in line. While this is a good idea in theory, I feel like it's not always accurate. There were 2 people who came after me and somehow they were seen before me. Huh? Just know that your experience on the waitlist might be a little wonky, but continue to have patience. You can pay for parking on Ventura but I opt to park in the residential part of Cedros Ave because it's free. If you have a lot of heavy bags, I don't recommend this because it's a bit of a walk. The service is horrible, like i'm not over exaggerating when i say it, it was horrible. Waited in line for 40 minutes, brought in three full garbage bags full of clothes, and the girl only took two pieces of clothing..??? the bags were full of bananas republic and name brands, and they only took two pieces of clothing out of the three whole bags. not only that, the only take trending things, like what..? if i have trending clothes why would i sell it, id rather just keep it for myself. not to mention how EXPENSIVE it is. i saw one cute shirt and i see that its 25$. TWENTY FIVE. this is USED clothes btw, clothes that should NOT be more expensive then retail, i could find the same shirt at ross for like 7$. the worker looked genuinely pissed to see us and was so rude? the selection is so buns too, its ugly clothes that are overpriced and used, i actually did go to ross after buffalo exchange and found three pieces of clothing with quality, new, and at a significantly cheaper price. save yourself the trouble and just dont come here, rather go to goodwill. smh read more

I've purchased some really cool clothes, shoes, accessories and jewelry here--at really good prices. And I've sold some of my old cool clothes that you might be lucky enough to buy for yourself! That's the joy of Buffalo Exchange. You sell them what you no longer wear and use the credit they pay (50% of what they'll sell for) to buy something new. And when you're tired of that you sell it back and buy something new again. It's the green circular economy of use and reuse so "new to you" doesn't mean more crap coming out of factories. Clothes are always stylish (or unusual!) and in good condition. Sometimes they're even brand spanking new with tags. The staff has always been 100% friendly and helpful. TIP ABOUT SELLING: Plan on waiting at least an hour. There is _always_ a line no matter how early you arrive. Keep your clothes in your car and scan the wait line QR code as soon as you arrive. Then the web page will show you how many people are ahead of you--and send you a text alerted when you're second in line so you can get your clothes and sit in the physical waiting area. BE PATIENT: The person ahead of me today had about 12 trays of costume jewelry and the buyers looked at every piece which took 20 minutes. THEY ARE SELECTIVE - the buyers are smart and know what sells. Items need to be in good condition! They don't buy everything, no matter the name-brand or how nice it is. So plan on taking some of your stuff back with you--and don't take it personally. They pay either 50% of the new sale price--in credit (which is easy to use there!). I am here to try and sell clothes to get some $ or store credit. The workers are friendly and keep the store organized and it's easy to access the clothes, shoes, bags, accessories. There's a men's and women's section, clothes are organized by size and there's some fun finds! I love all of the funky bags, the styles that recirculate and come back in to fashion, great way to up cycle! Lots of vintage and older stuff, and newer things with tags like Kate spade bags, coach bags and shoes. Things are well priced and generally in good shape, I found a pair of Steve Madden tennis ones with tags on them for $15 There's parking in the back and it's located on Ventura Blvd! I came in to sell some clothes knowing damn well my stuff is worth more than a measly 5 dollars each. This guy was so excited to buy my lingerie from me and I was like you know what fuck them for being cheap on me. I decided to tell him I wanted my stuff back. To his dismay he decided to be a dirty asshole and sneeze on my clothes before he gave them back to me. Mad disrespectful. The people here are stuck up.ñ and act like their shit dont stink. Terrible service , 30 minute wait to tell me $60 for 2k+ in designer. They have a very poor selection of clothes and the only "name brand" they had was a dirty pair of size 17 yeezys. The worker who helped me was very condescending and even said another store would give me similar value and guess what the other store didn't give me similar value at all i actually got almost $300 . When i told the other store about the situation at the first store they said they were trying to pull a fast one. Would never sell or buy anything from here EVER. Unless you're coming to sell designer and name brand items, don't bother coming to sell. I agree with a previous review pointing out that buyers don't care if their pieces are actually good or just name brand, because the selection is pretty outdated and rundown. I came 3 times to test if I was wrong about my first impressions, but the buyers are passive aggressive and tired. Each time I brought a bag of clothes, the buyer wouldn't even say hello or look at me, go through each piece super quick and say goodbye. Horrible experience today! First the selection is very disappointing and borderline awful with horrible styles, low quality design and even dirty items. I would say though, the worse experience was at the buyer section. We came in on 6/11/2025. and waited in line 30min to hopefully sell some nice pieces we brought. We got helped by an African American woman with curly black hair and glasses with a big "manager" tag. How she was a manager is what I'm wondering. She was pretty rude about the whole thing, kept on chatting with other colleagues non stop barely looking at the clothes and stopping for lengthy periods. Zero focus on looking at our stuff. She then proceeded to start training some new buyer acting like she was the most expert and qualified, in a very pretentious way, when clearly she is not looking at the horrible stuff throughout her store. I got an ad on Instagram about the thrift store where they will buy your clothes from you and either give you cash or store credit. So I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did! I brought quite a few clothing items in and they didn't buy them all off me, they go based on what's in style which makes sense. They did choose 4 of my items and priced them right there then offered me cash (25% of what they listed the clothes for) or store credit (50% of what they listed my clothes for). I went with cash and honestly it was so quick and easy, the staff were friendly and explained why they aren't taking all of my clothes. So far I've come here twice to sell some items in exchange for cash or store credit. If you choose to cash out you get about the half the value of what you get for store credit. They have a separate counter for buying vs. selling, and there was a bit of line for selling items, but the staff were cognizant of where customers were and the line dissipated quickly. The staff were friendly, and helpful in terms of explaining the types of items they're looking for. My first visit I opted for store credit and scored a super cute pair of high-waisted, black, flared denim, and two cute crop tops. I'll definitely be visiting this particular Buffalo Exchange location again, and again. Tip: They have limited free parking in the back, and ample free street parking about a block's distance if you don't mind walking. read more

Don't bother trying to sell, I brought it 5 full bags of both current and vintage styles most never worn and tags still attached. Was told they were not on trend or too worn to take in (make that make sense)...thoroughly confused as to what they do take when a lot of the stuff I brought in was more on trend than what they had on their racks. The guys that worked in the store were very nice as was the girl working at the dressing room but the 2 girl "managers" at the buying counter were very rude and somewhat condescending to most everyone I watched them interact with. This place doesn't have a sign in sheet to sell, it's 2024! Super inconvenient and nonsensical to not have a sign in sheet, you guys don't own any pen and paper? Literally makes no sense. Super sad to have seen the Santa Monica BE close... came in half hour after they opened around 11:30 and there were about 4 groups in front of me. Only 2 employees taking in buys and I'm still in line after an hour of waiting. Update: I waited a total of 1:30 HOURS to be seen. I requested to be there while an employee took my clothes since I told her I'm price sensitive to some of the items and not willing to sell it if I didn't think I was given a fair price.. I had a brand new with tags KAWS collaboration shirt and before even telling me she was going to buy it or interested in it, she tore off the tag. She ended up offering $11 on it - AFTER she took off the tag. I can't even resell it because she stupidly took off the tag that HELPS its resale value. Better off at Wasteland or Crossroads. Cleaned out my closet, hitting that spring cleaning a little early. Lol Decided to bring my stuff to this location since it closer to work. It's well organized every one is nice and informative especially the buyer. Loved that! Parking sucks on Ventura but there's parking in the back by the alley. They have a lot of good selection I mean a lot so if you bring stuff be ready to shop for more stuff Lol I didn't get what I was looking for my stuff because most of it was turned away. Not a bad thing they just know their target market. And that's a great value to know and to have within the fashion retail industry. Definitely not the place to sell here unless your clothes looks old and raggedy lol. I just needed to get rid of a lot of my things but I was 2% successful. Managed to get rid of 2 pair of boots and i think 1 shirt. I should've asked how they pay out because she offered me $40 store credit or $20 cash mind yall she priced each pair of boots for $25-$30 and my top &$25, they definitely pick & choose and rip you off. UPDATE: This situation as been addressed and resolved. Management reached out to me almost immediately and handled it. They were able to pull security footage and find out that it was a miscommunication of sorts instead of a dishonest employee. The buyer DID purchase the top from me, but it was hidden between two larger jackets in their buy pile and they must have misspoken or forgotten about it when they told me how many items they bought. I'm glad I was wrong and grateful for the help in figuring everything out. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm positive the buyer who went through my clothes here stole at least one item from me. Both my friend and I saw him holding up and looking at a very distinctive top while he was going through my stuff and we were shopping around. At the end, he said he only bought two of my items (two jackets), but I just went through the remaining things and that top is missing. There were a couple other items I thought were in there that are also now gone, but I had sold to a different consignment store right before coming to this Buffalo, so it's possible they were bought there and I didn't realize. However, I am positive about the missing top. It was new with tags and very expensive, which could be why he took it. So. Don't come here unless you want your items stolen. read more

This is actually my favorite thrift in Los Angeles, unfortunately I haven't gotten to writing a review until now. Today I was shopping and I had a horrible experience with one of the employees named Kim(at least that's what she told me her name was). She was incredibly rude for absolutely no reason and gave me immense attitude even after she was rude and disrespectful to I continued trying to be nice to which she responded in a blatantly rude manner again. I also work customer service and I completely understand having a long day and sometimes not being very bubbly to customers, but the way she was treating me and my friends was absolutely beyond rude. It honestly looks really bad on the store and and is definitely going make me think twice about coming here again. I would usually give the store a five out of five stores with almost all of the staff being incredibly nice, I've never had an experience like this, but I was just baffled at the audacity she had to act towards a customer in that manner. The only reason I'm giving the store two stars is for the other employees who were absolutely incredible, whilst the whole debacle with Kim was happening after I checked out, I went to speak to another one of the staff members who was incredible very kind and was making jokes with us, this is exactly what I expect from staff at a store that I am spending money at. read more

They've upgraded their selling process by signing up with a we code which is good and bad. You better be close by when your number is up or they will move to thx next one. Some buyers are friendly and some sadly are not. Other employees are rude. There's no such thing as friendly customer service. It's sad. I usually have r notes selling my stuff there when I'm lucky to have the main member (blonde). She's very nice. And the fact they donate to charity is great. But when others have a condescending attitude to sellers it makes the experience very negative. If you see clothes they have to sell vs the clothes you want them to buy it's a major contradiction. They're not Wasteland. I don't see Gucci or Prada so don't make us feel we are less than if we don't have it. Very disappointed. Go elsewhere. read more

Dear Buffalo Exchange Sherman Oaks, How did I never go in more often or appreciate you before 2020. Now you're closed for the time being... super sad elongated sigh... All your wonderful second hand pieces are just lingering in the meander of what is "rona" not to be mistaken for the Oscar winning film Roma of a similar name.... While parking on Ventura Blvd is never great you were easy to access from side streets or lots in the area. You brought a sense of community to not just Sherman Oaks, but the SFV and Los Angeles in it's entirety. The local free magazines, flyers, business cards and bulletins pinned, displayed and hung here echoed this in massive surround sound. Even the music whispering on high was eclectic. Now all I can do is dream... Of the care your staff put into every sale and the clothing I've yet to add to my wardrobe in nothing less than B+ & above grade condition. Wish... For those pair of $30 vintage boots or $20 all white "very good" quality sneakers I planned to come back for after taxes. Kick... The Caucasian woman with short hair working today 12/30/2023, morning shift, I did not get her name, when she opened the back door was very rude. I greeted her good morning and she did not even respond back. She just looked at me rudely.Unfriendly and Bad customer service at this location. Ventura and Santa Monica staff are so approachable. She was also person at the register when I was trying to sell my things. All she did was went through my clothes really quickly but was not even really paying attention the whole time! I used to shop here all the time because of the style of clothing in the store would suit my taste. The service was always good but unfortunately now it's declined. I came by to sell clothes this time which was a first for me. I brought in some clothes that are somewhat expensive(very popular in demand clothes). They are picky with what they take which i understand completely. They chose 5 of my items and tried lowballing me. They gave me a total price of $20 cash or $40 something store credit. One of my pair of jeans retails for almost $150 and they were willing to buy them off me for $18. I found this ridiculous, the reasoning they gave me was because they would price them at $28. Absolutely a lie in my eyes since i've shopped here most jeans range from $25-50+ dollars. Don't waste ur time selling here. I've always had good experiences purchasing from Buffalo. The prices are higher than other thrift shops, but then again this isn't your average thrift shop. You're more guaranteed to find somewhat nicer/name brand clothing here. I don't think they're the best to sell clothes to. They're very picky and pretty much reject everything which I find weird bc i see they also accept brands like SHEIN. read more

I took in 2 purses (Brighton and Coach) and a pair of Doc Martin boots. The manager was very professional and nice. I got about $12 each for the items cash and she said they would sell them for $48 to $50. I thought this was fair since they have overhead and have to pay their staff and it saved me the hassle of trying to sell them on EBay and mailing them to the buyer. I felt good about these items getting "recycled." It is good for the environment and they have a nice little store. I know there are other reviews where a lot of clothing was rejected but they have to consider what will sell in their market. There were quite a few people brining in loads of stuff and it took time for the manager to inspect each item and be thoughtful about her decisions. read more

For the longest time I've been driving past this partially noticing it saying someday I should check it out. That day finally came when my relationship with a nice pair of shoes that I bought years ago finally culminated with the realization that it just wasn't going to work out between us. So upon remembering that a friend had told me that they had traded in clothing here I decided to take the plunge. This is one of three stores in the LA area. The others being on Melrose and in Santa Monica. I wish I hadn't parked in a meter on Ventura and used their lot behind the store so I had more time to browse. I walked in only to find about 6 people with bags of items. Ugh. Someone recommended I use my polite indoor voice and see if they would let me pass in front to the counter. Shout out to Paris, one of the more gregarious buyers working the opposite counter. It worked. They give you cash or a higher credit if you want to use it on a purchase. Let it be known this is not a "Vintage" clothing shop where you go looking for that outfit for the 70's disco party. This is contemporary clothing for the most part and there are definitely deals to be had. It seems to have more women's clothing than men's. And prices vary but are within reason. Most of the stuff that comes in is on the floor within a couple hours and If you spot an item while it's being turned in they'll work with you. I'll definitely be back to look for some hidden gems. Awful customer service. Okay, I don't know the manager's name, but he dealt with me when I sold my clothes he took nothing. He was also so rude and didn't even take my ID or greet me. There was another worker right next to me dealing with another customer and he was actually so kind and talkative and actually took her clothes... so better hope you get that guy instead of mine.
