Great customer service from welcoming owners, which I believe is family run. However if you're claustrophobic, you will struggle shopping here. It's jam packed with merchandise and rows are wide enough for only one person. I found a totally beautiful, unique tea cup plate but it was finding a needle in a haystack. Prices tend to be higher than expected. They have a lot of housewares, furniture, small appliances and clothes, though I would edit in what to sell. You could repurpose a trophy, but who would want a souvenir wedding mug? There was also a strong, fresh cannabis smell. I'll be honest, this is not a thrift store for everyone. It's insane and chaotic in there but there are some incredible pieces. If you're looking for art, furniture, or other home goods this is your stop. I didn't even bother looking through the clothes as there was so much other stuff to find. The prices in some of the items are a little steep, but the business owner if fully open to negotiating. The gentleman I worked with was kind and personable and we were able to work out a good deal on some paintings and kitchen items. read more

Really disappointing the whole store smells like some smoked 10 joints before walking in. You can smell it from outside the door. Upon walking in the air is very thick and muggy. My sister and I walked in and out walked. You needed a mask. Which sucks because they had so much stuff but would definitely be hard to get that smoke smell out of the clothes. SO much amazing furniture. Prices are a tiny bit high, but not really compared to all thrift stores, these days. I thought the selection was amazing and from every era. You can't find a coffee table for under $300 in a vintage shop, so paying $100 for something cool and original sounds good to me. Will return for sure! read more

The store looks closed from the street, it's boarded up. But it's open, you can enter through the back, from the parking lot. There were no other customers while we checked out the place. Nowadays, it's a plus. The store is spacious, but kinda overwhelming, it keeps going back and the quality of the merchandise is pretty low, though prices are high. It seemed dark and dirty. I've always thought that this is a thrift store with antique mall prices. Jam packed full of stuff, none of it vintage or desirable, and jam packed for a reason... no one can find a bargain here. Pros: the staff are so amazing and friendly. Cons: it's a lot of junk. I THOUGHT I found 2 awesome tshirts but once I got home, I saw the horrendous stains. I am slowly getting the stains out with baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. But $9 for 2 stained shirts? There are places that are cheaper and have way better quality. Unfortunately I used to come here a lot. Today was my last day. This place is a mess and ridiculously overpriced. However, if you sift through some things and you might find somethings (at a normal price). Today I was looking through a box of old magazines when the owner came over and reprimanded me. I felt like a child. He said don't open all my boxes. Which I literally never did. They were all open in the middle of the store! If you don't want people going through the shop to BUY stuff, then put it away. The same stuff is here for years and he refuses to go down on prices. Genuinely a hoarder. After his poor attitude today (which other people in there were shocked about) I will never step foot in here again. Mind you the magazines I bought are the same price or cheaper online. He looked up the price right in front of me. He's very unprofessional, unfriendly, and rude. Good riddance. Save yourself some time and go to the surround thrift stores or shop online. read more

The only thrift shop I know of in the valley that's taking donations right now. Showed up with about 10 bags of donations and they met me at our truck and helped unload everything. They're very friendly and gave us a tax receipt as well. They're also run by an orthodox church and help domestically abused women. I love that they do so much for the community and they also have a great selection of stuff for sale. Lots of furniture, clothes, rugs, lamps, etc. I was looking for workout equipment but they unfortunately didn't have any. Definitely checkout this place in the valley if you're looking to give out donations during this pandemic. read more

I'm not very impressed with this store. I've donated more than I've purchased from this store. One of the things I've donated was a bright multicolored women's top and short set. They were made with the same fabric so it was obvious they were a set. When I donated them, I pinned them together. Days or weeks later, I was browsing through the racks for tops. What did I find? The top I donated but without the shorts. That made no sense. I often go to thrift stores to buy yarn. This store had a bag of yarn scraps, not even partial skeins. Just small golf ball size balls of yarn for $8. No one in their right mind would pay that price when they can buy more than what was in that bag brand new for $8 or less. Ridiculous. read more

This place is huge and you have tons of options of what you can buy but it is overpriced and on the beds, there are biohazard bags. It's not a welcoming environment with those bags. Also items are messy and still have dirt in them. Employees are nice enough, but this store could polish itself up more. The area is seedy, there is parking in the back. I just wrote one of my gargantuan Yelp reviews on this mysteriously attention grabbing thrift shop and I accidently hit "trash" and lost it all. It was good too...all about my moms antique store in Nor Cal in the 70s and how The Thrift Shop at 6735 Van Nuys resembles in style,and feel,that good ole fashion shop. Dora and Andre own and manage the shop in a way that made me feel comfortable and at home talking about anything...we even laugbed about how we will be qjick to "yelp shade" but not light. I walked out of the HUGE shop thinking my day was complete now...Id met two, down to earth, good people until I met Boxer, he helped me back up, and then told me he works at MTA Thrift Shop along side Andre and Dora..m.I should have known...icing on the cake...light allows ligh to be seen. Honestly, between 2-3 stars. Unlike some other thrift stores that are tax-free, you'll need to figure in additional tax here. Sales are not combinable, so if there is a price crossed out on the tag, the item is not eligible for their weekly 50% off color tag sales. A lot of cheaper-quality clothing and shoes. Used to shop here a lot and spend money. Came in today and was going to buy some paintings. One was a nice print possibly painting for $65 and a few other paintings. There payment systems was down and did not except my two cards. I asked if he could hold the items. $190.00 worth. I went to Wells Fargo came back in less than 5 min and the owner said the painting was sold. That a man came in right after and bought it. We were back so quickly we could have seen that transaction. What I know happened is that he realized it was a nice painting and could resell so he took it. Very shady. The store was quite empty because it is boarded on the outside and it does not look like it could be open. They have great art pieces there and what they could have done is look through their pieces to resell before they put it out and have a customer deem it is worthy to buy. It is a shame because I like to support my local businesses. But I will not be going back. I don't mind paying higher prices for items to help small business but again will never support this place. read more

Where have all the used furniture stores gone? No really, where?? MTA has a bigger selection of used furniture than anywhere else I've seen in this area, though I have to agree the prices are fairly high for what was on offer. I understand $100+ for a legit antique in good condition, but I don't understand the prices they ask for a sticky, mass produced dining chair. That said, they did have sale/discount tags on some of the larger and less desirable items like hutches and dressers. But overall, priced high for secondhand. I did not browse clothes but the houseware and decor items were positively crammed, and I'm sure there are good finds in there. read more

Great little shop! I stumbled upon this store amidst one of my (far too) frequent meccas out to the valley and was definitely not (too) disappointed. MTA is pretty typical in many regards. They offer colored tag sales and the usual hodge of furniture, trinkets and clothing. On this particular day, I was looking for wall hangings and furniture so I will forewarn that is all I kept my eyes peeled for but I was conscious of my surroundings. The furniture selection was excellent; the prices were varied. I saw some items that were undoubtedly overpriced and other items that made me think, " hmmm. you know that's not that bad!" although I wasn't looking for clothing, I did take a stroll through and was dissapointed. The offerings were extremely limited and although many of the items were on "sale" the prices were still too high for a thrift store. If you're looking for clothing I'd suggest you do that- keep looking. and on to the housewares. Pretty good! I have a weakness for freaky mugs. That being said, I have acquired far too many and have put myself on restriction but I still look. If I wasn't on freaky mug restriction I would definitely found a few items to add to me olde collection. oh and the wall collections. Very good. If you have completely barren walls and a limited budget this is definitely a place to check out. Although I didn't leave with more than an item or two, I'm sure I'll be back! I love this Thrift store! They have such a vast variety of goodies to explore - and at great prices. I found vintage caliber apparel at thrift store prices, lots of cool furniture, tsatskis and kick-ass old style electronics. A Dresser's dream... especially when working on low budget type features. The best part: The owners and the folks who work there. They are very helpful and spirited! Customer service is of the caliber that you don't see at these type of establishments. The location is a little kooky, but well worth the drive. This is a great local business to support. Check it out if you're ever in the 'hood. read more

This is a good store. You can find a lot of actual antiques for reasonable prices. They have a nice organized selection of shoes and clothes, vinyl, which you can spend an hour alone looking through, which I might add has an extensive Barbara Streisand collection...nice clean place and it's easy to navigate through unlike other thrift stores. read more

Not what I was expecting! They have EVERYTHING... I think it's on the pricier side considering the merch is all... second-hand... But there are some pretty neat finds. Lots of furniture, rugs, drapes, clothes, dinnerware, etc. I like that they make little dinnerware sets with pieces that don't actually go together instead of having each mismatching piece for sale. Unconcerned for patron safety. Rude. Verbally Abusive. Physical Abusive. I have shopped here before, it's been so-so. Today, however, the owners and employees (at least 3 of them) put me in physical jeopardy with the way they handled a customer they didn't want in their store. It is inappropriate to get in a shouting and screaming match with your customer. It is inappropriate to touch, shove and yank things from your customer. It is inappropriate to use a loud voice to tell your customer that you will make them a bloody pulp in a moment. It is even more inappropriate to have this shoving match with a customer when you are within 3-5 feet of another customer (me) who has been shopping in the store. Even more dangerous, I was kneeling next to the wall display shelves of glass materials, in response to a store clerk letting me know they had just gone on sale. One mis-step from the customer you (MTA Thrift Store) didn't want, or the employee tussling with her and I would have been shoved into the wall displays with the possibility of injury from falling glass. This is totally unacceptable. You handle a recalcitrant customer, or one you suspect of being a shop-lifter by getting them away from other customers. And you do it it a calm manner, without putting other customers in jeopardy. When I left, and told your owners and employees I would not make the purchases I was planning, your staff then rudely told me, "Well you can leave too!" Yes, yes I can. And I can choose to not spend money in your thrift/antique store ever again. I also advise anyone else contemplating shopping there to have second thoughts and go to one of the numerous other stores in the Van Nuys area. read more

I often go shopping in Jones Grocery store in Van Nuys. Recently I noticed that there was a new big thrift store just opened, close by, where Anna's Linen was before. I checked them out and the shop was really good...lot of interesting stuff, good prices and very nice sales people. I spoke with Adriana who was super helpful and polite. MTA is one of those thrifting jewels you almost want to keep a secret.. just to have less competition. Sure, it is located in the most terrifying parking lot in all of Los Angeles, next to the sketchiest 99 Cent Store in all of Los Angeles. But it is entirely worth it. They always have an intriguing selection of items, clothes and furniture that is reasonably priced and far more curated than your average thrift store. When I bought a heavy chair recently, one of their employees (or owners?) not only carried it outside for me, he helped unpack and repack my car full of junk just to get it inside. Speaking as someone who thrifts a lot for work, MTA is definitely one of my faves. read more

A friend and I stopped here - we were looking for over-the-top formalwear - and we popped in here while driving by. Even though I think the prices were too high, they admittedly had the largest selection of drag-queen-ready bedazzled dresses I have ever seen in a thrift store anywhere on earth. So they get four stars just for that. Minus one star because they don't have a dressing room. Really I would rate them 3 1/2. But, it was certainly a wacky store full of amazing finds. MTA - for the times you need to feel a little south of the border mayhem... and no I don't mean THAT (get your mind out of the gutters yelpers). Parking is in some sort of odd back alley bazaar. I'm talking tents, musicians, and everything but loose chickens running around. I think this is where they held the first annual Hunger Games... because somebody definitely got killed up in thurr. If you're brave enough to snap into an open parking spot while avoiding pedestrains from the adjacent 99 Cents Only then half the battle has been won. Congratulations. As for the actual store, it's not a place for me. Whoever does the displays must have worked at Pier 1 as the attempts at statements are appreciated, but the one thing that bugs me the most is the "Smile! You're on Camera" signs posted to the walls. Thanks for treating us like criminals. It's like listening to your mother when you're 14: too smug and instantly puts you off. TMI? Don't worry, it's all being worked on in therapy. Back to the store. The household items were way overpriced. Dishes were much more than say Goodwill. I'm sorry, but who is going to pay $14.90 for USED Pyrex? The few interesting things were not priced... hmm... imagine that. So you are forced into a conversation to inquire about the price in which case the worker/owner can name whatever price falls out of the sky that day. Due to this I'd avoid dressing in any decent clothing. Wearing rags helps when dealing. Problem is, this place is not a place to deal. The few unique items (40's-50's stove; and lounger) are either left unpriced or priced unreasonably for a knock off with taters and tears in the vinyl. I assume this is a for profit business, but reality check time gals - your store is in Van Nuys! Your location is way off the beaten path of platinum Visas and Jimmy Choos. So please drop yo prices or stop salvaging and doubling the Goodwill finds that the rest of us would like dibs on. Like that purple chick from the capital always says, "May the odds be forever in your favor.". Trust me, you'll need them at MTA. read more
