I've been to various Buffalo Exchanges around the nation, and this is my favorite one yet. (Granted, I have never been to the U-District location.) Nice selection in both men's and women's. Lots of larger sizes as well. There were TONS of double-front style leather motorcycle jackets when I was there...so if you're looking, check it out. As for prices, I can't always figure out how they set them. Some pieces are arbitrarily more or less expensive, regardless of wear. It is true that there are some "aged" pieces (read: worn out) but they usually aren't super expensive ones. I find the prices a little too high sometimes, but that's a Buffalo Exchange thing in my experience and not the fault of this specific location. read more

Some of the staff are friendly but others are a little iffy. I've left feeling embarrassed as if I've offered up something disgusting (for consignment). The business model of trade or pay isn't my favorite - I'm left not sure what just happened as I leave behind a pile of high end clothing and $15 in my hand. I'll still check out the store to purchase but I won't consign here. There are other places that are more professional and clear consignment agreements. read more

Long lines, crappy clothes. I tried selling to them a few times, good stuff and they just blew it off. Their locations aren't the easiest to get to either. I just wasn't into it, but maybe others have had a different experience. I wouldn't recommend trying to sell to these stores unless you know FOR SURE what types of things their looking for, they are very, very picky about what they buy. Just saying... read more

I will not come back here anymore. Coming from the East. I heard West Coast don't have a sense of style!!! But anyowho. Went in to resell a Tommy Girl Lightweight Jacket from 2017 (mind you). Young lady looked and said "I'm going to have to give this back to you just because of the style" WHAT?? Its a plain blue thin jacket. Good thing they are not the only consignment shop. I went to a different shop and got $15 for it. Consignment shops are supposed to do their research first instead of just looking at the clothing. Good luck to those who try to resell anything to BE, too picky for my taste. read more

Absolutely love this place! Staff is VERY friendly and patient. Came in today for my 2pm appointment. I arrived a few minutes early and was called shortly after. I brought in around 40- 45 items which all sold except 4 pieces. I had a bunch of dresses and some shoes all brand new or like new. I had a great experience and was happy most of my stuff sold. The ladies working today kept telling me how cute my stuff was so that made me feel good! I also want to applaud their multi tasking and making sure everyone that walks in are greeted and taken care of. The only con, that has nothing to do with staff or the store, I couldn't help but notice a handful of people waiting behind me who also were waiting to sell. May I suggest not coming 20+ minutes early unless you're going to shop around.. but waiting in the small area where the selling registers are can get crowded. Also BE asks that sellers launder their items before coming in... it's common sense. Don't be upset that your item doesn't sell because there's a stain. AND just because you're an hour early for your appointment does NOT mean you will get seen before the 2 people who scheduled their appointment before yours. That's all :) otherwise I highly recommend this location. I definitely will be coming back! read more

Selection was just ok for the size of the space--But 4 stars for the friendly guy behind the counter buying my stuff! You didn't buy much but you were personable and nice, not pretentious like other resale shops Ive sold at in the Seattle area. I will be back. read more

Some of the selections are good, some overpriced...it's a flip of the coin.

I visited this store today to sell 50+ of my used clothes because I gained weight and none of the old stuff would fit me. The clothes have been washed and in great condition. They were from different brands such as H & M, Old Navy, Macy's, Calvin Klein and J Crew. All of them are of high quality, most of them 9-10 months old, in pleasant colors, timeless and in season. I forgot the name but the woman who was at buying counter was very snobby and just didn't like anything at all. She passed rude remark about how the clothes were only good enough to be taken back with me and of no use. It is okay to reject but not correct to be so rude and snobby about it. Since I read other reviews, I now feel like they have some buying etiquette manual on greeting politely, making a fake conversation and then recklessly reject all clothing. I am adult and mature enough to accept if my selection gets rejected because reselling used clothes is always a hit and miss. But what baffles me is the seamless selection of poor looking clothing on their racks that seem like they were purchased in Walmart or gathered from donation boxes. Don't even bother coming here to resell your clothing. They will be very picky and won't even bother reviewing the clothes for even two minutes. Total waste of time and horrible customer service! read more

This branch of Buffalo Exchange is a lot smaller than the one in the UD, so it's definitely lacking. For the most part, it's comparable to the UD store, just everything is in smaller quantities. Especially the pants! I'm a size 0 or 1, sometimes 2 depending on the brand, and there aren't enough pants in my size. Sad! Overall, nice staff, good location, good variety of things. read more

This was like all the other Buffalo Exchanges I've been to, so it's pretty cool. My only complaint is that it was super hot in there, so I couldn't shop for long before feeling I would pass out. lol wompwompwommmmp read more

The staff here is very nice, but the location is awkward and small. I hesitate to go here just because it is very cramped. They do work with what they have, though! read more

I'd stopped in here on a few occasions and thought that the selection of clothes was at least satisfactory. Earlier today I had my first experience in selling something...a nearly new pair of Docs which I just wasn't wearing...and I was really pleased with the friendly, attentive and professional service they offered. They pay a very fair 35% cash for what they will mark the item, and the entire process is quick and easy...even when they were getting slammed, as they were today. I'm guessing that some of the more negative reviews of the place came from people who were only there once, and most of those seem to come from earlier in 2009. I would certainly return there the next time I clean out my shoe closet. read more

Great staff...beyond helpful. However, I only found 1 sweater. They don't have quite the selection I had hoped for. The University store is twice the size and at least as of today has a better selection and an interesting gothic staff. read more

Mecca of thrifting. I got a D&G skirt for $25 and - Mother of all Finds - a $1640 Jil Sander sweater for $38. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?? Excellent selection for the most part, reasonable pricing. Great source for work clothes, lots of office-friendly labels like Gap, Ann Taylor, Loft, Banana Republic, J Crew. Don't forget to check out the clearance rack. Super friendly staff too! I will be back.. and back, and back.. read more

Like Deborah B, I was very very excited to hear about buffalo exchange opening up a store in Ballard. I also love to parade around in the great finds that i have purchased at the U-District location. I first visited this location the week that it opened and was not very impressed, but could definitely see its great potential. I went in there again a couple weeks later and left with a great shirt & the cutest j-crew cardigan for only 20 bucks! I visit the store often and it keeps looking better and better. The employees there are also very friendly, something that you don't really find in its other location. Like the other location, they have a wide selection of cute vintage stuff as well as regular thrift items and sometimes new things too. Overall, I would say buffalo exchange in Ballard is here to stay, and I cant wait to visit it more and more to find great stuff! read more

First time selling here and was very pleased with how efficient they were. I don't know exactly what they are looking for so I expected they wouldn't take a ton of stuff I had, but figured I'd give it a try. I was pleased with the offer. They took probably 6 or 7 out of 25 items. I understand they buy what they can sell fastest. Customer service was excellent, very friendly and thorough. The manager, Mallory clearly likes what she does there and Buffalo Exchange is lucky to have her there! I didn't see a lot I would want to buy as I looked quickly through, but I'm not really the target customer so I wouldn't expect to. read more

So many hidden gems to find!! Just found out how amazing this place can be! Go now, preferably with clothes to trade/sell!

I like this store a lot. I get great deals on purses and accessories on the regular. Staff is nice. Never sold thru them but they seem busy at the buying counter every time I go in there. It's nice that they have men's things too. read more

I really like this store! Ive been to the Buffalo Exchange a few times in University District and their clothes that they offer aren't as nice as the ones here. Im a designer freak, so that is exactly what I look for.. Designer clothes. This place has it! I bought a pair of hudson jeans, two nice shirts and a new jacket for 100 bucks! Well worth the price! Every one is super friendly and this is the only Buffalo Exchange I will be going to now. :) read more

When I'm tight on cash, I sell my stuff here. I can either get immediate cash or store credit (cash is lower percentage than store credit). This location has a local-business-boutique feel and I have a hard time leaving the store without wanting to get something. I'm intrigued by their selection and good prices! Good vibes in this store. read more

Awesome clothing for a great price and you can feel good about the environmentally good choice to buy used. I always walk away with a couple sweet things. read more

My bad. Really. I'd been to this Buffalo Exchange before so I KNEW what I was getting into, but I thought I'd try again and, for the second and final time, I brought in clothes to sell, was told it'd be a "few" minutes, and over 45 minutes later, during which I watched the clerks stand around and discuss their weekend plans, movies, etc., was told they'd "get" to it. I've never been treated this poorly at the U-District Buffalo Exchange, so I'm not sure if this is an anomoly, but it makes no difference: I will NEVER go back. read more

I still cant crack the code on this place...I brought in all name brand items great condition and the girl took three things. I asked what are you buying right now because there is nothing on the Buffalo Exchange bulletins. "oh just bring in whatever you got." she was also doing a good job of making nonsense chit chat asking me about me to distract me from what she was taking and how much she was giving me for it. Bravo. I asked why she didnt take the new condition St Louis Cardinals Nike Dri fit pullover... 'oh non local teams dont do too well so we only take local teams.' The Cardinals are one of the most decorated and successful franchises in MLB history, winning eleven World Series championships, 18 National League pennants, and ten division titles. Their eleven World Series titles are second overall only to the New York Yankees with 27. Guess she didnt know that. Oh and nice SF 49ers jersey on your rack too. I guess theres always ebay and craigslist. read more

Oh Man..... This is the worst location. Not because they literally take NOTHING. Because the majority of the employees there have " Holier than thou" attitudes. Yes... EVERy time I have been in this Ballard location it is a bad experience. It's a bummer, because the University one is pretty good. Maybe check out that " sad shorts" episode of Portlandia (Ballard location)... yeh that's you. read more

I have taken things to Buffalo Exchange a few times. Not too long ago I took a couple of nice dresses into the Ballard Buffalo Exchange. They still had the tags on them ( they had bee gifts ) One was a really creamy lacy dress, the other a print. The lady at the counter said the creamy one had wings, meaning not full sleeves just off the shoulder ,the other a print. They would not take them. The lady at the counter said wings don't sell and people don't buy prints. . I walked across the street and donated them to the R Shop. they took them,. They next day they put them on the floor to sell guess what .They did not even last two hours on the rack the lacy one sold for $45.00 the print for $40.00 .. Believe it or not Buffalo people a lot of your customers go from your shop to the R Shop. AKA RYTHER read more

You can find some really great deals here! I absolutely love this place and tell everyone I know who doesn't mind second hand clothing to go here. My only qualm is the bag issue. I understand that they are donating the cost of the bag to charity but when I spend $200 on clothing...I really need a bag. Had to carry a huge stack of clothing three blocks because they didn't have bags read more

Absolute ripoff.. Definitely do not reccomend, I brought in a brand a New pair of true religion jeans. They offered me 8 dollars. They also do not take youth sizes and have terrible attitudes. They are condescending and lowball every thing you want to sell. read more

Sweet store, excellent staff, weird hours but let us stay a few minutes after closing.

Good selection of clothes and great prices...overall a great place!

I really like this Buffalo Exchange. I prefer it to the U district store because whenever the staff sees me with a few items in my hands (or a lot of items!) they ask me if they can "start a room" for me. Even though it is much smaller than the U district store, the experience just feels more personal and like they want you to be there! I usually find at least a couple of items if not more. Pleasant neighborhood place to go shopping. Particularly if huge stores make you dizzy or if you're easily distractible - yay, Ballard B.E.! read more

I prefer this location to the university location. I feel the selection is better however it is much smaller and more expensive. Because it is more expensive I noticed I was getting more money for the clothes that I was trading in as well. I found the staff to be more friendly than the other location as well. read more

I've been shopping and selling at Buffalo Exchange in Ballard and I've become fond of this location. The employees are sweet, helpful, and have fun taste in clothes, especially their dresses. Love the location, great selection of current styles!

Great to shop, but terrible to sell... Unless of course, you have a lot of old "hipster" gear

Serious waste of time. Came in with 3 big bags of almost new clothes (some of them brand new, never been worn). The store didn't take a single piece saying that the main reason were that they were too worn. On top of that, a lot of the stuff I brought in were purchased at the store in the U District less than a year ago... read more
