She had just gotten in a bunch of new stuff and was organizing in the back. As a result, the store was quite messy and the owner a bit stressed out, but very apologetic and helpful. I would have come back a different day, but I was on a tight deadline so I spent some time looking at and trying on a few dresses. Nothing was quite right. I wanted something authentically vintage and there didn't seem to be many options in my size, although there were some reproductions and vintage-inspired things in the shop (not really my style). I couldn't tell if the store was usually cluttered-looking or if it was just that it hadn't been totally organized yet, but it felt like there was too much going on. The mess was only really a problem because I stepped on a small piece of broken glass, barefoot, in the dressing room/nook, and couldn't see very well in the dimly lit space to pull it out. So maybe keep your shoes on if you try anything on.

I happened to be on a walk today and since it was in my path, I decided to step in. As I walked in, there were three ladies chatting, one or more that worked there, that glared at me and didn't ask if I had any questions and continued their conversation. I don't want to presume what was going through their heads, but judging by the looks I received, I can't be for certain. They had no idea why I was in there. I could've been there to buy something for a friend, in my case, thinking that there might be some men's clothes there, etc. is disappointing that West Seattle small business seems to have forgotten traditional business practices of welcoming, whoever walks through their door. Or in this case, they know and they just don't care.

Practically all of the clothing is geared towards women. I saw plenty of cool stuff though. Steve saw a great leather jacket but it wasn't his size or cut. I ended up getting 2 fun T-shirts and a sleek phone case (looked brand new!) for just over $20. While the selection of clothing isn't huge compared to other thrift stores I've been to, it was organized well and there are always gems to be found if you're willing to look. The cashier was nice and friendly, and I walked out happy with my goods. Appreciated the Community Board as well, with a nice curation of events going on in the area!

When I moved and switched jobs I called the non profit and they brought out a truck with two staff to pick up my gently used furniture. I even had some baby clothes that they donated to Mary's place. I continue to support however I can and really like the stores displays. The non profits mission and values are very clear and they are so community centered. I often refer folx in need of the rapid HIV testing that Out of the Closet provides. I'm happy that the money goes to fund this service. Also, great customer service and excellent staff. As the hill continues to evolve and change, I am so happy that Out of the Closet remains a Cap Hill staple. 10 stars!

It was great seeing the updated posts leading to their grand opening today in West Seattle's Admiral District (7/8/23). Traffic was merciful on I-5S through downtown Seattle to get to the West Seattle Bridge. Street parking was a challenge near the busy intersection of Admiral and California, but patience pays off with a free spot with two hour limit. Lots of amenities, retail, cafes, and restaurants all in proximity. I was warmly greeted at the entrance and it sure was filled with happy shoppers and browsers, like myself. I love how each table, shelf, wall hanging were thoughtfully curated. Eye catching displays. Great gift and home decor ideas. Clothing and accessories that would excite your need for well deserved retail therapy. I tend to favor local, indie businesses, so wishing them all the best at Hoste.
