Been coming here for cute unique earrings and sterling silver rings for awhile now. Recently they haven't been doing a great job with the buying section so this review is strictly for that: In the past: multiple open counters of buyers that look through your stuff and get things according to the season and how well the condition is and the style. Now: mostly just the same guy at the buying counter denying a lot of great pieces (specifically women's wear which a girl might be a better buyer for since the guy isn't going to wear any of it. I'm not sure why they don't rotate more buyers because a store needs different pieces and everyone has a different vision. I feel like they could also price things a bit higher just because some of these items are basically new to like new and yet you're only getting $4 dollars out of it for example. Instead of just focusing on profiting, perhaps they need to give back to the people who are bringing the pieces into the stores to make the money off of. In this economy, if there is inflation, they should also give us a higher estimate. read more

I've shopped at a few Buffalo Exchange locations in multiple states. This one is small but has a good amount of inventory and is organized. I found a cute Free People jumpsuit. It was not in perfect condition, missing belt and straps, cost was okay for the condition. There were multiple staff working and a security at the front door. If 'platos closet' had a drug problem, this would be that place. where do I begin? I decided to take my backpack to the car at risk of getting some kind of critter on me in the store when I came in the first time (remember this). I came back (in a mask) because of the odor of uncleaned, dirty clothes. Shoes with dirt still on them. Stained items; the likes, was OVERWHELMING. The staff seemed to be having some kind of party behind the curtain of a small wall where they were VERY excited to go on and on about their problems, issues and private matters. But you know the shower curtain between themselves and the customers is thick enough. I when I finally managed to get into the back of the store, around many youthful folks who seemed to be very unaware someone was behind them, I realized I was being followed by the security guard. After showing her my hands at least 2 times, I felt like it was best for me to leave before her glory days kicked in. Although I had NO ISSUES, it was obvious she was watching me. If you recall, I had my backpack about a half hour prior when I came in the store the first time. I asked if someone would be nice enough to watch my bag at the counter but they could not accommodate. Fair. Their clientele look like they are on probation. Either way the shoes I wanted were fairly dirty considering the price, so I left. I YANK my mask off outside for air....low and behold.. here comes the security guard to check my bag! she has now followed me half a block down chestnut street, to only realize I have purchased a coat from their competitor-- "2nd Street" about 4 stores down. The guard WAS doing her job, but unless I was about to steal fleas, I had no desire to buy anything here. I will not be back in the future. Not my cup of tea. I found the selection to be drab for lack of a better adjective. The clothes are well organized but still packed quite tight and the prices seemed a little higher than I expected for second hand clothes. I mean really, pay 15.00 for a used tee shirt when you can skip on down to H&M and get a brand spanking new one. I would however consider selling here if your items are good looking, trendy and your not expecting top dollar but instead a little extra spending money. You will get more bang for your buck if you take the store credit but that's a double edged sword isnt it. read more

Excellent selling experience as always. Called beforehand to ask about what kind of accessories they were looking for right now, and the person on the phone was super helpful in giving me details about what kinds of jewelry, hats, purses & shoes they were taking. I brought a ton of stuff in and a buyer was ready right away to look through my stuff. The employees made sure I was happy with the price they would pay me for things and made sure I understood the policy. Again, always happy selling here. read more

Employees are always pretty nice--my main issue with the place is the pricing of 95% of their products; I get they're a business but you can find brands like Shein, Zara, H&M, and Forever 21 for $8-15 here. As for their vintage, pieces can range anywhere from $12-40, with most in the $15-30 range. I found dingy, yellowed white vintage shirts with graphics for about $16-18, with wear and tear along the collar and other edges. I would say fast fashion comprises about 40% of their overall inventory, sadly, and 95% of their 1/2 price sale section. Most of the racks are also packed to the point where sifting through them is a bit inconvenient and tiring on the arms. read more

I took 11 items - men's T-shirts, buttoned down shirts, & a sweatshirt - to Buffalo Exchange for cash. With this place you never know what they'll take, & what you'll have to end up lugging to another secondhand resale or back home. Pleasantly surprised that 4 shirts - 2 T's (one being Lez Zeppelin), a brown buttoned down shirt, & a Guess Jean's long sleeved T - were accepted. $14.75. The most I've ever gotten from there. For a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't a long wait. And both associates that took care of me were professional & pleasant. My only qualm - they weren't able to just donate the clothing they weren't able to give me cash for. It would help to have a bin there for clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. that Buffalo Exchange can't use, & can be donated elsewhere. And so the customers can just get rid of everything in one shot. Horrible. Despite horrendous reviews I took the trip to the city. I have to say if i could give negative stars I would. Every negative review's valid....honestly the reviews were far too kind. Brand new pair of van classics in box and Michael kors gabby design never ever used I was offered $7 CASH! They must take me for an idiot. I'm to believe combined they are selling both items for under 25 bucks? I hate to see what they would offer you for something used. Geez. Please don't waste the gas to get there. Went here to thrift with a friend and, just like the Internet says, it is very over priced. A lot of the basic T shirts you'd get at goodwill for $3-5 were upwards of $10-15. I did find some cute pieces and probably would come back, just be warned it is not Goodwill prices! Also, when I checked out they were out of bags. I had to shove my 10 items into my purse. That really sucked! Overall, cute place. However very crowded and the racks are a bit messy. Definitely will take awhile to navigate the whole store. Was in there for 30 ish minutes and barely made it halfway through. I'm iffy on this place. read more

I mean, I've always loved swinging by this store to see what deal I could find. I find it to be somewhat of a hidden gem. I've honestly found some cool vintage pieces in here - both clothing and accessory wise. Fun place if you're into thrift shopping. Some trendy pieces - a real fashionista will haul through the piles of clothes to find the buried treasure. Meaning - that impulse purchase that you have to take home with you. Our 3rd visit to this Urban Gem. We sandwiched a expeditious visit to this one of our favorite Philly spots in Center City between several Philadelphia college tours, an overnight with little brother & his fame in Delaware, & a visit with our Auntie D. Daughter was happy to have even the short visit given our hectic schedule. Glimpsed lots of cool styles but many turned out to be a bit small for me which is saying a lot as I'm on small side. Was happy to score a beautiful Zara top, JCrew blouse, & sexy fall jacket. Daughter snagged gorgeous nubuck Matisse boots, lululemon active wear, & more! This is a new location from our last visit which we found to be a more narrow but long store. Packed with people, I could hardly move without bumping butts with another shopper or staff. You won't find thrift prices here but you will find mid-level fashion finds at decent prices. Check items for damage before you head to cash register & bring your own bag. read more

I usually only come here to sell and I haven't had a bad experience yet. The workers are all very friendly and helpful. They usually purchase 90% of the items I bring in and i always feel it's a fair price. The only complaint I have is that it can be hard to find parking near by and walking around center city with heavy bags is rough. read more

I'm not sure what kind of store they think they are, but their prices are atrocious. A pair of teal H&M jeans with stains all over the backside for $20.00 (not trendy distressed 'stains' by H&M, these were obvious stains) when there's an h&m two blocks down? That's madness. DON't SELL HERE. They lack severely in the plus department. If you're a size 16 and up, good luck finding anything. I brought over 7 pairs of jeans in from size 14-20, a pair of shorts, and dresses. They said they couldn't buy any of it bc it wasn't spring items. Jeans, shorts, and dresses aren't spring items apparently (bought in 2021 and 2022). They told me I should've called beforehand but I'd assume they'd be thankfully for plus sizes since they barely carry any. Also you actually don't get paid the amount your clothes are worth. You can either get 50% of overall purchase in store credit, or they give you 25% of overall worth in cash. And I thought platos was hard to sell to lmao at least they carry plus sizes at platos. I bought like 3 things from here before this experience. Weren't bad but I could've got the same shit at a good will and paid way less for it. I won't be going back, not worth it honestly. read more

**UPDATE 12/15** Okay, so, it's been a few years since I moved away (and wrote this initial review) and I just stopped in from LA to visit this location hoping that they finally got their shit together. Kinda. Way to go finally getting a vintage section! You did it! Also, they finally hired some new staff that are VERY nice and above and beyond. The girl with the blue hair was walking around singing in a creepy voice which threw me and most of the other customers for a loop. Save it for the shower, babe. Is it me or did the prices get higher at this location? Anyways, kudos for stepping it up a bit. In the words of the Terminator..."I'll be back." --Original review from 2012-- I love the idea of Buffalo Exchange, just not a whole lot of what goes on inside of it. My favorite employees are Marty and Thomas. They are always super friendly (and not in a fake way like most of the other employees there...it's really annoying). Once I accidentally dropped a pair of earrings I was going to buy and they broke and he was such a sweetheart about it. However, today I've decided to completely boycott this place altogether. "Do you even travel anywhere?" - i ride smelly orange subways with questionable goo on the seats where people try and sell me bootleg dvds and bubble swords. i mean, that's exciting, right? "What are you doing this weekend?" - drinking rum and cokes out of dixie cups on my couch while i catch up on paranormal tv shows? Yeah, I want to tell you all about my life...Eye roll. It was weird and awkward and none of her business anyway. I know they're supposed to be friendly but it comes off super fake and why would you ask if you don't even wait for an answer. You know what lady? The Jerk Store called, and they're running out of you. She held up one blouse and said "I guess I can take this, It's from Anthropologie so I guess it was expensive." After that I didn't even let her finish buying stuff from me. I put half of it back in my bag and told her I was just going to keep it all. I didn't really want $16 in cash so I opted to get a really nice pair of shoes for $27 store credit AND GOT OUT OF THERE. I'm sad to say that I'm not coming back anymore but not really. Whatever. After the 30% discount, I was only offered $9.00 for a pair of mint condition suede boots that have never been worn. This, after I informed them of the original price and condition. I visited the new location to sell and was only given 40 bucks for 2 brand new pairs sneakers and 20+ pieces of clothes (with tags included). One of the women that rang of my items was corrected by her co-worker for giving me pennies on brand new/never worn clothes and footwear... it's beyond insulting to be told that a brand new/never worn $100 pair of shoes are only work $5... really?! One reason I'm upping my rating is because I always manage to find a pair of kick ass sneakers that I simply have to have whenever I'm browsing in here. And when you have a size 13 foot like I do It's not exactly an easy task to accomplish. But not only has Buffalo done it for me, they've done it in the form of Slip on Vans shoes for $30, and vintage looking Air Jordan's for $20! But the bargains and treasures don't stop there. I've walked away with an old school trench coat for $5, and a sweet and hard to find Doc Marten's jacket for $70! Almost every sweet ass looking sweater that I've owned has come from Buffalo, and for most I've only paid upwards of $15. If your a dedicated thrifter like I am then you'll walk away with 3 or 4 treasures on a good day, and at least 1 on a bad. Another reason I'm upping my review is because I had the chance to meet Yelp's own Kara P. during the $1 sale, and she proved to be a class act. read more

I always find some hidden trendy gems here. Most things are rather affordable given the brand names and what not . I like how they have a Halloween costume section during that time of year! Nothing like getting a costume for a fraction of the retail price at places like Spirit Halloween! The staff are generally pretty respectful and nice as well. The few times I've tried to sell my clothes here I've gotten them turned down. I trust they know what they're looking for, but I had some decent brand names in good condition! I used to like this store but until recently I went there to get some new jeans, but at the checkout the sales associate informed me that the jeans I selected were not priced right after she rang me up my wallet was out, given the fact that I had spent about 30 minutes browsing and time trying them on. Buffalo is great for finding trendy clothes, selling, or just plain trying to be part of the group and what not. I go here once a week mainly trying to fit in. I love the friendly staff. I have had many positive experiences here selling and purchasing that I'll be a forever customer.lately I've had one negative experience selling, but I KNOW it was because the buyer is uneducated and needs major work. The last time I was in I purchased awesome Franco sarto leather boots at 27, a handmade deer leather fringe bag at 22 which I thought was a steal, a belt, and a ridiculous idiotic purchase of a vintage Looney tunes bracelet priced at 18 ....priced high because of its cool appeal I guess...wtf 18 dollars though and displayed in the case??? Go home buffalo ...you're drunk!!! next time price that ish for 5 so the poor person(it was me) trying to sell their Tracy Reese newyork dress from last fall with no wear is wondering why you can't buy it but have the Looney tunes bracelet for 18 ...good thing I'm rich.,the dang bag I bought was 22. So I paid for this real awesome underpriced bag and this over priced bracelet. Still kinda baller though. But that's how it is. You will win and lose. The majority of size medium and large sizes in skirts and dresses I would consider undesirable. The past two times I've been in the store this has been consistent.
