Yesterday I popped in to try on some jeans since I'd heard about Madewell's denim exchange program. It's a promotion going on through the end of the year where you can bring in any pair of old jeans to donate (jeans are used for housing insulation for those in need) and receive $20 off a new pair from Madewell. Their jeans are pretty pricey so I was all about this deal, especially after hearing rave reviews about Madewell's denim. I gathered tons of clothes to try on and was helped by Sophia, who pulled other items that were similar to things I was already trying on, which I loved. She also gave honest feedback - I wasn't pressured into anything I knew was not right. I ended up with just one pair of jeans and one sale tee, but I loved both pieces. And I cleaned out five pairs of old jeans from my closet in the process, so there's that. Love this store! read more

Madewell, the sister store of J.Crew aka 80% of my wardrobe next to J.Crew; how can I write a sonnet to express my love for you? I won't because that's weird and I'd cry if I were to be banned here. Anywho, when Madewell opened a few years back I had no idea it was the sister store of J.Crew. The ladies in the front are always helpful and actually helped me pick out the gray sweater I'm wearing in the photo that was on sale! Usually, in other stores, they want you to walk away with something expensive so they can get a bigger commission but it's lovely when someone in retail goes out of their way to realize your taste in clothing and seeks out what they hope you'll love which I did. I forgot the names of the two ladies that helped me a few Sunday's back, it was a brunette and bleached blonde female that was so sweet, quickly opening up a dressing room for me and not rushing me out the door when they closed in an hour (BTW, don't do that to the retail staff. They put a smile on but they have lives too, you know. Know what you want and GTFO people.) The store itself is very clean and organized, everything is folded and in its place and sales are properly displayed. They do provide student discounts so make sure you have your student ID with you! I'm no longer a student, sigh, so make sure to take advantage of this! They aren't pushy with making you purchase something and aren't following you around. They know when a person wants to browse alone. They also have a denim exchange program where you donate whatever jeans you have and get $20.00 off for a new pair which is amazing and cuts down on waste and throw parties here and there with live music! This is my favorite store in the whole world. Everything is well made, the people who work here are helpful and friendly, and the sales section is on point. I'm not a big shopper. I don't enjoy trying on lots of clothes and maybe that's because I'm a difficult body type to fit, but, nevertheless, the sales assistant helping me brought me suggestions and new sizes and told me her opinion whenever I was unsure about a style or fit. read more

I do love this store not for the cute clothes they have, but also how clean it is inside. You are greeted by the security personnel at first, then you are greeted and asked for help by the kind associates. I know my way around here- sales!!! I love it when they have an additional percentage off on top of the sale. Just so you know, they're on the pricey side! Also, I found out two other ways how to get some $$$ off the total bill: 1. Present a student ID if you have one; 2. If you have an old pair of jeans laying around your place, bring them here to get $20 off a new pair jeans. Madewell - Women's Clothing Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Just left Madewell. My second time being there. I went to buy a Christmas gift for a family member and ended up getting a really nice sweater and pair of gold velvet socks. Everyone was extremely nice on the floor and in dressing room area - (and helpful) until I got to the cash register. My cashier Maria, as it says on the receipt, was mildy friendly. When the transaction was complete, I asked her to throw a small piece of trash away for me. (It was literally a piece of bubble wrap the size of my palm.) She gave me the dirtiest look I have ever received from a sales person in a retail store. Instead of saying ANYTHING, she just gave me this disgusted look like I had just pooped my pants in front of her. She then slowly put her hand out and slowly threw it away continuing this look, then walked away from the cash wrap. This really upset me which I think was obvious. I got my things together and then after I was about to leave and she had already walked away, she threw in "have a good night." and asked me if I needed boxes (for my things I asked for gift receipts with, which I think you should offer to everyone whom asks for a gift receipt probably before you put their stuff in a bag and walk away from a register. Never going back to this location. I have never complained on yelp and have had it for over 5 yrs. I work in the service industry and also have worked in French Connection, Scoop NYC, UO to name a few. I never have once given a shit, flinched or taken it personally when a customer asked me to throw something out for them before. It's certainly nothing to make a customer feel uncomfortable over and treat someone like throwing out a piece of trash for them is something you are beyond doing especially in retail. read more

I don't know is there any one was called "someone" in a retail store. I was in the fitting room trying jeans and asked for a help for a size down. And then after a minute, this one has beautiful blond long hair good looking employee said:" someone, we don't have that size, do you want this one back?" I said ok. I've been to this location of Madewell at least 3-4 times now and I am consistently underwhelmed and disappointed by the attitude of the employees there. I have cheerfully asked what promos/dicounts are available as I am a student and they have stared at me with disgust. On another occasion, I was trying to decide whether to get a pair of pants and I was thinking out loud, and they have just stared at me as if I was so below them and could not afford to buy the pants. I have been in the process of paying at the cash register and try to make small talk and they do not engage or smile- and it feels like they are judging you for buying one piece of clothing on sale. I love Madewell - but I'm going to be shopping online moving forward - shopping in person should be a positive experience and no one should be made to feel less than because they are seeking discounts/sales. read more

Very cute clothes that are good for people who have a classic sense of style with a slight twist. The items are a bit on the expensive side but if you can go during a time when they have sales or use your student ID it is more affordable. The staff are nice and helpful, and the location is great. The only thing is that I wish it was a bigger store with more options, but despite that, I will still be coming back! read more

Super helpful people working here - I brought a purse that I had purchased from this store less than a year ago to see if they could do anything about a broken zipper. I expected them to say I was out of luck but instead, they offered to send it to their leather repair service provider. The woman helping me also called another store to see if they had leather repair service, as I'm moving away from Philadelphia soon. When that store didn't, she offered to take the purse to see what they could do and to ship it back to me either wThey went above and beyond my expectations! Update: My purse arrived yesterday with the zipper fully intact! I am so impressed and appreciative that this particular Madewell store was able to make this work for me. Thanks to the women who helped me out, I am definitely a loyal customer now! Oh also, I bought a pair of high-rise jeans with buttons up the front and am obsessed. My favorite Madewell location of all time! Wish I lived in Philly! The sales associates were all so helpful, found me extra sizes while I was in the fitting room and brought me extra pieces I might enjoy. I took forever to select what exactly I wanted and they were always there helping me along the way. Ended up spending a bit too much money, went in for one button down and left with around 10 pieces. UPDATE as of 12/02/2013: Returned. Didn't think it was worth it to keep. ------ If I could, I would buy some clothes from Madewell. But then again, you can find similar styles as well as quality for cheap elsewhere. I only came here to look at the bag selections. There's currently a 25% off select bags sale, which is cool... but, of course, the bags are expensive. After inspecting over five of the same bags, I settled on one of "The Kensington Satchel" in "English Saddle" with 25% off (read: I love camel/cognac/tan bags). I was, however, bummed that most of these bags had scuffs on the handles. I pointed those out to the sales associate that day, but she said it's typical of leather bags. When I got home, I inspected some more and noticed scuff marks and other miscellaneous scratches on the corners and outside of the bag -- almost as if someone had already used the bag or it may be an older version of the bag that was on display. Stopped by Madewell in KOP Mall and the same bags had a few to no scuffs, although the pebbled leather was a bit rough and wasn't as soft as the one I picked out. Went back to this store and showed more sales associates the scuffed corners, but they really couldn't do anything. The only thing they could do was get another bag from the back, but they couldn't discount the price. I mean, how can they sell bags that have scratches all over? As I compared the same bags some more, the sales associates were speechless and I'm pretty sure they thought I was absolutely crazy. In the end, I kept the bag. On another note, I didn't notice the college discount until my boyfriend brought it to my attention. Went back again with my student ID today and got 15% off, so I suppose I'm sort of okay with the final price. I just hope the bag doesn't go on some super sale on Black Friday or in the coming weeks because I will not be happy, lol. If you really like Madewell bags, definitely check them before you pay. Most of the leather bags will easily scratch though, so unless you're okay with that or it's heavily discounted, don't buy the bags. As for clothes and other accessories, wait for the sales, if you can, and don't forget your college ID for 15% off your purchases! read more

Friendly employees, nice layout, and good selection of Madewell clothing and products. They aren't pushy like I've encountered at the Madewell in my hometown (where they were on some sort of weird commission thing). There's always a sizable sale section which often has an additional 30% off going on, and I love stacking my student ID discount with that. read more

So glad to have a second location of Madewell in the Philadelphia region so I don't have to trek to KoP! This particular store is pretty great too. I haven't been in that many times because I have limited self control once I walk in, but when I do... fortunately or unfortunately I usually find something to bust out the Visa card for. The clothes are good quality, always comfortable and my most loved dresses, jeans and sweaters are from here. I had worked at a location of Madewell previously so I am aware of how the sales typically work and the promotions they run, the problem is sometimes they are so good items sell out quickly in smaller sizes. I have not had this problem at this store and almost always will find my size in most items on sale or full price. Customer service at this store is on point too, everyone is helpful and friendly without being overbearing. My only beef is the dressing room curtains never want to stay closed, making me less inclined to try stuff on here. read more

This store is great. The clothes are beautiful and unique, the store space itself is lovely, and their gold jewelry selection is really great value for what you pay. Additionally, the staff went above and beyond when I brought in a return (the dress had lost a tassel) - they made my day by finding the dress in a local store, shipping it to me the next day AND giving me the sale price! I have felt completely ignored every single time I've come in here and I don't understand why. Even if I have questions there are people working but they've always been lost in their own conversations or snippy when I've asked for help. I have not been to this location as I reside in the DC Metro area but I was calling different Madewell's to find a certain hat as it was no longer available online (one of those times where I waited too long and regretted not purchasing sooner as soon as it was no longer an option to purchase online). I was finally able to locate the exact product at this Madewell location and they were great to locate the product and ship it out to me asap. I made the call on Thursday and received the hat by Monday afternoon. I've been buying from Madewell for a long time now. I now mostly stick to their denim because I love the way it fits me. I came in a few weeks ago to buy a new pair of jeans because mine had worn inbetween the legs. They were a pair of jeans I wore regularly for over a year and thought it was time to buy a fresh pair. HOWEVER, when I mentioned to the sales associate I was replacing a pair of pants she told me they could alter my old pair for free! Even though I bought a new pair I liked, I brought the old pair in a couple of days later. I got them back today and they did a fantastic job repairing the rips. Madewell produces sturdy, well fitting pants but this offer is what sends them over the top as a company. I called around to some other stores I had bought expensive jeans from to see if they do repairs too and NONE offered this service. With all the fast fashion-throwing away goods regularly, I give a round of applause to Madewell for how they can reduce waste in the fashion industry. read more
