Too expensive for me to shop regularly, but has some neat stuff

I moved to Eugene from Denver... and miss the Buffalo Exchange in the Rocky Mountains so much more after visiting this store. For starters, they should have potential sellers 'check in' with their bags so they can shop around the store and prevent people from waiting FOREVER in line just to get the clothes you brought rejected...Just as a courtesy. Buyers also should be in better communication with each other. I call ahead to make sure I am bringing what I know they will buy. And, everything I brought was rejected. How does that make sense? The girl said, "These just are hard sells." Um, but someone told me that's what you need! From a customers perspective, buying and selling at this store is pretty mundane. They don't recognize designer labels, and they are a little delayed with current trends. The girl suggested I sell some of my nicer stuff on ebay ... so I will take her up on her suggestion from now on. I'll just have to go to Denver in order to get a good shopping experience, I guess. read more

Almost every single time I have gone into Buffalo, the dont take any of my brand new clothing telling me it looks too used. Its a used clothing store. The staff is picky and prissy. The place is overpriced and when they actually want a piece of clothing you get back $5 or less. The online site states they will give you $15 almost EVERY TIME! Not the best place in Eugene. I would NOT recommend it. read more

If I could give a zero I would. Went there with a box load of good condition things and they took nothing after I said something about an issue. What was it? Well what really got me going was the fact a guy was in their store disgracing a United States Marine Corps dress uniform top and when I said something they didn't care much less do a damn thing about it. That is inexcusable in my book, I know plenty of businesses that would immediately excuse him from the premises for doing that. People die for what that uniform represents and he had no right disgracing that uniform for a fashion statement. Fuck you buffalo exchange. Lost business forever. read more

Their stuff is really low quality yet when you try to sell them nice, quality clothes they seem to be very nit picky about the clothes. I've tried multiple times to try to sell them nice things and they either don't take them, or take them but sell it for dirt cheap. They have no reason to be so picky with NICE clothes when half of the clothes in there are ugly and outdated. read more

Unless you're into paying way too much money for USED clothing, don't go here. Literally went in the other day to buy a few nice quality shirts for work and the few that they had were in awful shape, one had disgusting yellow pit stains on a nice silk banana republic shirt. Asked the staff what my chances were of getting it out were and they told me 50/50. I am NOT going to buy something that I can't return and can't get clean. 90% of the time, their selection is full of weird clothes no one will buy or in the less popular sizes. Also forget about selling your clothes or shoes here. Took in a brand new pair of Steve Madden heels that they said were "off" and $70 prAna leggings I had worn twice and countless other expensive seldom worn clothing articles were rejected, yet they bought a crappy old navy shirt for 2 dollars, like WHAT????! P.S. I have also taken in articles of clothing that I purchased there and lost the receipt and they won't buy them back, even with the price sticker still attached. Bottom line, go to plato's closet, clothes horse or even goodwill instead. read more

A little bit on the pricey side, but they definitely have some quality clothing. They also have fair payouts for consigning. I can get $7.50 in store credit for an item they will sell for $15 for example. This is much much better than what plato's closet will give you! read more

Well! went back to the buff with the boyfriend to exchange some clothes. another wretched experience. the buyer did not recognize designer clothes in brand new condition. we were so baffled by her lack of fashion knowledge we just rejected her offer and took our clothes back. this place in unbelievable. go to deluxe or kitsch or redoux. avoid this hellhole. read more

This place is fine. It's not my favorite and it's not the worst but considering the lack of second hand clothing and thrift stores in Eugene (for younger styles) this place is ok. They are very picky about what they will buy from you and offer you more in store credit than cash which is a ridiculous way to force you to buy clothes from them. Platos closet doesn't do that just a heads up. I brought in perfect brand new in style high heels and wasn't accepted because people like chunky heels right now. When did high heels go out of style? Anyways I don't plan on selling anything else here two brand new pair of jeans got me $14. Enough to buy one pair of leggings. They have jewelry and some purses here and donate 5 cents to the charity of your choosing with each purchase because they don't offer bags. That's pretty cool. Their parking lot is huge and some employees are nicer than others. I wouldn't personally do a lot of my shopping here but I'm sure it's great for others. Men's section is pretty boring as well so if you're an eccentric guy looking for fun clothes you may not find them here. read more

The "take in a bag of clothes and have it all rejected" is common amongst ALL the resale clothing boutiques in Eugene (of which there are many! - try Deluxe, Kitsch, BonTon exchange, or the Clothes Horse). You just have to try to sell the kinds of things they want. You always get ripped off for the cash they offer you. Store credit is a better deal....IF you can find anything that fits you or that you'd want. I buy 90% of my clothing from resale boutiques. In the last 10 years, I can remember maybe 3 things I've bought from Buffalo Exchange. They have a lot of stupid, cheap shirts, and a lot of stuff for skinny girls. I'm a size 12, and have NEVER found a pair of pants there that fit. Most of the clothes at Buffalo are kind of hideous. Maybe you will like it there but there are so many other women's clothing shops in town. If you've never been there, it's worth going, but after the first few times not finding anything, I don't go there anymore. Staff is usually polite and helpful, especially with the dressing room. I'm not sure why this location is getting such a bad rap. I'm a regular here and really like it! What a lot of people need to understand is that it's Eugene, not LA and not Portland. There aren't many places to shop here, so the people who sell, don't have much to sell! Unless you are a clothes and accessories hoarder like myself. Great shoe selection and woven tops. Everyone has also been very friendly who works there. read more

Well if you like over priced used clothes then come here. The few times I have tried to sell things I haven't sold ONE ITEAM! I go looking around their store and can't find a single iteam that I like in my price range. I go down the street and sell at other places and have most of my stuff sold in 20 minutes or less! They are just a frustrating store to sell to. read more

Its like going to a super clean and truly organized step up from a thrift store, some things seem a little pricey but I can see it being worth it to not dig through possible dirty stuff. read more

if you want a genuine environment for recycled retail- the buffalo buyers will hook it up... they select for their inventory based on what sells with their customers so if you think that people come in lookin for old stinky shoes and shrunken sweaters you might get your stuff rejected. just try to remember its a business of recycled fashion and don't take it too personally if they can't buy your things for the store. Everybody's got their own personal style and in a community like eugene, the inventory can get pretty electic and interesting. the employees there are happy to answer any questions you may have, so ask! anyway, i obviously love the place so hopefully you will visit and get some treasure with a history behind it. read more

Trying to sell clothes to Buffalo Exchange is a huge waste of time. I've tried to sell to them several times but they always tell me my clothes are too worn. However, the majority of the clothes have NEVER been worn which is why I'm trying to get rid of them in the first place. Their selection is pretty mediocre. Their buyers don't seem to have a real understanding of what people actually want to wear. Overall this place is not worth visiting unless you have plenty of time to dig through the unorganized racks and search for clothing. read more

I understand this store and other like them try to buy the best quality at the lowest price-but the buyer is high!! Brand new never worn tote boots and she said I see signs of wear and we are looking for higher quality. The clothes that had tags never worn were declined with "we are interested in higher quality clothes" ahh - then the Nike and UnderArmor pants that saw the day of light like twice are not what you want. As I look at what is on the shelf I would swear they really mean old lady clothes from Macy's - oh well. That was the first and final failed attempt. read more

Snooty wannabe-chic staff is extremely picky and highly capricious in their buy-back selection. The clothes in the store look like sad, half-baked attempts to mimic the "high fashion" crap they peddle in fashion magazines at prices close to the original wholesale prices. I always find something great at this store. I've sold clothes here twice and they are very fair with what they take.

I come from Portland and always loved the Buffalo off of Hawthorn. This one was a huge let down. The staff is less than friendly, And the selection is aimed at college kids. Basic, generic, un-flavorful, college kids. Huge bummer. read more

I miss having a staff of super friendly/non judgemental ladies and fellas at the local buffalo exchange. Every location I've been to has been a great experience except for the Eugene store. They're inventory is good. Not great. I understand the need for clothing marketed to the college kids is important here but damn, I think I've seen enough faded hollister and a&f tees to last me a life time. I sell there and am often left with around 30 bucks after bringing in tons of "edgy" and fashionable clothing. (not clothing I hate, wore in high school, or went out of style) I got 12 bucks for a new marc jacobs bag (it was black and contemporary as well as a totally usable/current shape/style) ...pretty lame. I'm not going to pick on them for being selective because that makes no sense if you are familiar with the resale industry and how they profit. . . It's mostly the general vibe from the employees that leaves me in a shitty mood when I finally pick out a couple tops. My review is Meh... read more

I always bring my old clothes here for spring cleaning.i usually earn about thirty dollars and I always have a lot of stuff to take back home.why don't they buy all of my clothes?someone will love them.i hate my old clothes to go to waste.this is a used clothing store so they should take all used clothing right?why pick and choose?i have lovely clothes brand new from target with tags still on them and they are passed on.they prefer j crew and stuff like that.oh well. read more

When I walked in all the sales associates were chatting with one another and not visible. I had to go inquire about selling back clothes and then a customer walks in to sell her clothes and they help her first. I had several name brand items in good condition and they passed on everything except a tee from forever21.....playtos closet is a tad better read more

It is nice to find a place that has secondhand clothes that really may have a second life in store for them. However, they are priced at nearly retail cost so what's the point? Plus they have 'trendy' music playing which tends to make the atmosphere a bit annoying. read more

I usually have a good experience when I go to this store. Sometimes they can get a little picked-over which makes it hard to find good stuff, but all resale stores have that problem. I think the staff can be a little neglectful, which gives off a pretentious air, but today when I went in everyone was really nice. I noticed some overpricing, especially in shoes, but I thought most of the prices seemed reasonable. I really like going here. read more

Yay, I like this Buffalo Exchange. You have to pick through clothes like any resale store, but the staff are sooooooo friendly.

We live in Los Angeles and visit family in Eugene about twice a year. We always go to Buffalo Exchange when we're in Eugene - it has become a tradition. I always get something for myself (female, average size) and my husband always finds some things he loves. Better prices than new clothes and more unique. A $20 pair of brand name jeans is fantastic in my book (instead of $120 for new). The staff people have always been very nice to me. read more

Clothes are ugly- and overpriced. Hipster employees will offer you 5-10 dollars for your Doc Martens and turn around and sell them for 50 bucks. Go to goodwill. read more

i haven't sold anything there, but definitely a funky selection of stuff. some of it being hideous, some being a real find. everything is in good condition and always a good deal, compared to retail. read more
