It's a very small space with no indoor seats but wasn't a problem on that day since the weather was beautiful for the many outdoor tables. If you're looking for a quick bite in Bow Market, this is a great spot! I came towards the end of the evening, so there wasn't as much selection available, but there usually are a bunch of flavors. I ended up going with the Chicken Empanada. I'm not sure it tasted exactly how I was imagining, since the dough was more flakey than I'm used to, but it was delicious! It also wasn't too greasy, which I very much appreciated. The staff here was really nice, especially given I came shortly before closing. It's a pretty small spot, so I'd recommend taking your empanadas to go or eating outside. You can also order in bulk if you'd like, so that's another great option if you'd like to take some home. They offer different options for frozen empanadas (and some other goodies like chimichurri and pebre) each week at buenas.co/fuckcorona (yep, you read that right). Follow them on IG to see what they're currently cooking up! Delivery is smooth, and you just bake them from frozen for about 15 minutes. Some offerings are seasonal like the apple, cheddar, and fluff emp for Somerville's Fluff Festival! Some other specialty ones are the short rib mac n cheese, buffalo cauliflower, & crab rangoon which are so yummy and indulgent. They also offer Nada Dogs - literally hot dogs wrapped in empanada dough. The classics like ham & cheese, beef, and tuna are all solid. I loveeeee empanadas so much but I wasn't really a fan of Buenas. I tried super hard to like them too. I tried their Buenas Beef, Ham & Cheese, and Humita (corn, mozz, peppers). The pastries of the empanadas were yummy and flaky, but the filling is where I was disappointed. The Buenas Beef was the only one I enjoyed - tasted almost like taco meat with delicious herbs/seasoning. The ham and cheese filling was super mushy - was expecting somewhat diced ham inside? We got an assortment of 3 flavors- the spinach and cheese (my personal fav), the roasted root veggie (classic), and the short rib mac and cheese (a crowd pleaser). The Prebre (tangy and spicy) and Chimichuri (herby deliciousness) sauces were also great! We picked them up frozen a few days before and warmed them up in the oven the day of the party. I would like to preface this review by saying that I'm gluten intolerant. This is actually a complaint. The entire time I've lived in Somerville, I've suffered sub par empanadas everywhere I go. I love them, so when they are on the menu - I'm ordering them. They are never the filled + baked pastry I'm looking for. Either fried, or made of corn dough, or just generally a pointless calorie trade off, I've always been left disappointed, and sad that great empanadas were so hard to find. Then I tasted Buenas. Heaven. Tender dough, perfectly filled, golden brown little flavor pockets. It doesn't even matter what the filling is. Sometimes they get a little weird, but I'm here for it. I trust that they know what they are doing because they have been doing it so well for so long, and guess what? They've never led me astray. I just wish they were gluten free, and for that - I cannot forgive this hardcore + hardworking pair. How dare they make such delicious things in such close proximity to me and TEMP me towards an assortment of inevitable inflammatory nightmares. What kind of person DOES THAT? Rude. Buenas is part of the new 1 bow street complex. They sell empanadas at 3.25 a pop. The empanadas are small bundles of comfort food. I tried the spinach and cheese empanada and the spare rib + Mac and cheese empanada. The spare rib + Mac and cheese was excellent! The spinach and cheese was good as well, especially because it was fresh from the oven. I will definitely drop back in next time I'm near! I only have two slight complaints. The empanadas don't seem to be kept warm enough. The spinach and cheese just come out of the oven, so that was great, but the other one was lukewarm, even though it was only 15 minutes after opening. Also, I think 3.25 for an empanada is bit pricy considering how small they are. read more

I stopped here about a month ago, before the opening of Bow Street. Buenas did not have any empanadas that night, but I ordered a veggie dog wrapped in empanada dough and the polenta. The veggie dog was delicious (I think it was Morning Star brand). The polenta was rich and creamy, very reminiscent of grits. I hope to return soon to try the empanadas. read more
