Not sure about you, but I'm not a Krispy Kreme fan. I prefer the classic, old-school Asian-run donut shops (have you seen the movie Donut King? - Must watch!). I grabbed a half dozen donuts a little past 11 a.m., and the lady was super friendly, even threw in a free one. That's rare these days! She also encouraged me to try my luck with Powerball, and surprisingly, I won! Though it was just a small amount, equal to what I played (haha). Definitely give them a visit! Small donut shop in the area. I was feeling hungry after work, and came across this place. I got a chocolate twist donut and a coffee. The young gentleman worked tirelessly behind the counter and he works very fast. Service was good. He showed me that creamers for the coffee is in the fridge. When I opened the fridge, I saw various options! I have never seen donut shop offered various different kinds of creamers! It shows me that the owner cares about customers' preference. Bud's Donut Shop is a very unassuming little store that sells some of the best donuts of recent memory. It's a tiny shop in a plaza containing a Grocery Outlet. It's snug inside, but there are tables set up if you'd like to eat there. It's messy in places, but not dirty. And they do take card with a tiny service fee. I walked out with three donuts for $5 paying with cash. The donuts themselves are pillowy, soft, and fluffy inside, and pleasantly firm on the outside. They are not at all greasy, and are *just* sweet enough. Even the filled donuts I bought had risen all the way to the top and were still filled generously. I'm impressed by Bud's Donut Shop on the whole. It's not very innovative or gimmicky but it doesn't need to be. It's just good donuts. You bring your own cup and they charge you first time three dollars and then the next day they charge you four dollars they can't just charge what they feel like...... they are very rude and the place is kind of dirty....... Holy moly! I've finally found the best neighborhood donut shop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's only taken me a decade, but whatever. I did it! Yay me! Yay Bud's! Bud's donuts are light, fluffy, and don't make you feel gross after you eat them. The actual dough is flavored perfectly so it's not just the glaze/sugar that brings flavor. My favorites so far are the powdered cake donut (seriously, the best powdered donut I've ever had) and the crumb donuts (both raised and cake). My BF said the jelly donut was the best he's ever had. He also loves their stuffed croissants. Jalapeño?! Yum! I also love that this is a small mom and pop operation. Why wait in a mile long line at Krispy Kreme when you can get these (much better) donuts for cheaper while supporting a small business?! It's a win all the way around! :)) read more

3.5 STARS... I know it's not an option. The owner is a freaking Donut Angel & Master of Pastry Love! The son however if he left to teach English abroad I don't think anyone would miss him... I know I wouldn't. I came in almost to closing I know, but that doesn't mean I should be denied donuts if they are available.. does it? (begin scene) I came in excited for DONUTS. The son was not only not friendly, he ONLY showed me the croissants and muffins. I asked if they were out of donuts... HE SAID YES, "it's almost closing, we are sold out", when I asked him about what flavor croissants were left.. he pretended not to know. Anyways... I spotted the Mom/owner putting love and artistry into tomorrow's donuts/pastries. And I saw some donuts and asked politely if any were available... She said "Yes, that is leftovers from today" promptly told the son to grab the trays and show us what was available = BAD Son/Amazing Owner. The Mother threw in 2 free donuts as an apology... Is she an angel or what??? The donuts were actually pretty good and especially for being the end of the day. The apple croissant was very good... I would have gotten the chocolate one but it looked burnt so I opted for Apple. I walked across the street during my lunch break to pick up some donuts for my students! The service was quick and they had tons of donuts to choose from. I got 2 dozens and it was a little over $20. I was a bit annoyed that the woman working charged me $0.75 because I used a credit card. I wasn't annoyed at the $0.75, but it just felt so unnecessary and didn't make any sense. I found it weird and sketchy. I checked my credit card statement right after she charged me and I was glad to be clear. Overall great donuts and stayed super fresh 2 days later! read more

Nice donut, but it was pretty ridiculous that they had someone doing full-on construction complete with very loud electric tools cutting into the ground ten feet from where food is being served,while the shop is open. I had come in hoping to sit in the shop, enjoy my donut and coffee, and read for awhile, but this would have been impossible even with ear plugs. I also think it's shameful that management is allowing this to go on while their employee is standing there getting her ears damaged. Bad call. read more

My family has been getting donuts here since I've been alive, a nice 25 years. They have every donut you'd imagine and a variety of muffins/ danish and the like. I've had donuts at tons of other places and I promise you, none are as good as Bud's. Why do you think they've been in business so long?? Its a family business and the two main sisters used to run in most days, but now they do along with their children (one sister has 8!) They are always in good moods, they know most of their "regulars" and they're open every day and pretty late for a donut shop. They also have lotto tickets there and call me superstitious, but I win on lotto tickets more often than when I buy a ticket anywhere else. I don't buy them often but when I do I make it a point to go here. I usually have one of the daughters just pick a random one for me since in the past they've picked me winners. :) Sure, there are some older guys who sit outside and drink their coffee and chat. But what's wrong with that? I've never ever had a problem or have been "grossed out" with any of the older male patrons who frequent here. Yes, sometimes there are patrons who have their shopping cart waiting outside, but that's because the owners offer them free coffee or a donut to eat once in a while. Oh, and as for freshness, the donuts are always fresh....if you go earlier than later of course. They're still amazing and soft, but hello, if you're eating one at 5pm versus 5am they're not gonna be "fresh out of the oven." Very hesitant on giving places 5 stars unless I have seen something abstract that separates them from the competition.The prices reflect the quality,its a little bit more than what you would usually pay.As far as quality for donuts,this is as good as it gets in this area.You are not going to find a better donut shop around Sun Valley. I ordered a plain buttermilk and the texture was amazing.It was cooked perfect and i can never say i have been disappointed coming here.They have a wide variety of donuts,they have the most out of the Sunland/Tujunga area.I have been to places in los angeles with various assortments,but that is entirely outside of the subject. They have THE BEST white frosting with rainbow sprinkles donuts in town...literally! One Saturday morning, I drove all over Shadow Hills, Sunland, Tujunga, La Crescenta and into La Canada and stopped in every donut store I came across. I purchased only one donut from each shop, the white frosted donut with rainbow sprinkles. I took my collection of donuts home, numbered them and did a blind taste test of each with the hubby to find the best one. Buds had it, hands down, no competition, clear as day. SOOOOO GOOD! Why did I do a taste test of this donut? My daughter's 2nd birthday was a week away and to satisfy the theme I needed rainbow sprinkled donuts. I opted for those instead of cupcakes this year for dessert. I called Buds a few days later (3 days before the party) and pre-ordered 3 dozen donuts of JUST the rainbow sprinkles. They were helpful and willing to take my order. They made them the morning of my party (a Saturday) and had them boxed and ready to go when we needed them. Fast forward to the moment when I unveiled my donut tower at my daughter's party. The guests were dying to get their hands on these bad boys and they were NOT disappointed. THEY LOVED THEM! I can't tell you how many "mmmmm's" I heard that day. People were going back for more. They were a total hit. A worker here rubbed me the wrong way. As I entered the donut shop for the first time, no one was near the donut section for the first minute while I was looking around. An Asian middle-aged woman says "hi", and I respond "hi, can I get a few donuts please? :)" and her response was, "why else am I standing here?" in a rude manner. I should have just left so she'd be able to realize that her attitude can have a shop lose customers. She also made another comment when I asked for a maple donut lol. Mind you her mask was pulled down this entire time, I took a bite of my donut and remembered the ladies mask off and threw the donuts away. Wrap up the attitude and follow CDC guidelines. read more
