(Tookout 07/15/20 WE @ 3:00pm): I couldn't see my fandom petering out after my first experience!
I was in the area to pick up a takeout order at nearby 786 Degrees when my eyes came upon Peter's Donuts... and of course I had to check it out! My to-go order wasn't ready yet, so I walked over "just to kill some time" and shamefully I was sucked in by the tantalizing treats that tempted my tastebuds to take some home with me. Would this impromptu find be a treasure trove that tugged at my tummy!?

THE "APPLE FRITTER IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD TOUR" CONTINUED...
Apple Fritter ($2.10): Not that I was an apple fritter snob - eff it...yes I was! - but there was a certain way I liked mine. 1st, the price was comparable to the now going rate. 2nd, it was generally round, I liked the thickness and density, and nearly the size of my face (an ode to the great Goldstar Donuts in Van Nuys). 3rd, there was a mass amount of apple bits. 4th, the overall medium-dark brown color was very nice with a ton of burnt ends (I loved it burnt), and the medium glaze made for an exceptionally good cracking effect. There were endless smaller crunchy odd crannies, corners, and nooks which I liked to break off into small little morsels. 5th, it was fairly fresh based on its temperature with no hints of oil pockets or gooey apple juices that leaked into your mouth and dripped down your throat. Overall, it had complete value - 5.0 STARS https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peters-donuts-sun-valley?select=_Lib6X3NNnXstAkpAJZPVg.
Rainbow Sprinkles Donut ($1.10): Plenty of colorful sprinkles with a thick white frosting and fresh moist donut - score https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peters-donuts-sun-valley?select=qW6rQa6YaJj6FG1Qu7lXGA!
Buttermilk Bar ($1.10): A beautifully-fat heavily-glazed creamy bar of goodness https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peters-donuts-sun-valley?select=87cXH8aoYBi_KEysat-wOg!
Donut Holes (N/A): A complimentary surprise, these were puffy with a nice crackling glaze; I'll make sure to buy some next time https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peters-donuts-sun-valley?select=0l3yVTQUcbGx1eMetLUriQ!
SERVICE
Greeted by a kind older woman, she gave me time to peruse her display cases for my favorites. Once I saw them, I as quickly as I pointed them out she bagged and tagged them! As I reached for my money, she sneakingly shoved donut holes into one of my bags (needless to say, I made up for it in the tip). As I walked out with goodies in-hand, she wished me a good day with a calming smile. I was treated like a saint - thank you!
PARKING (FREE)
Located within Jim's Plaza, this outdoor strip mall at the corner of Laurel Canyon Blvd. and Allegheny St. had a medium-sized private lot that catered to a handful of businesses. Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of parking along the main drag of Laurel Canyon Blvd. and nearby side streets.
ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE
A no-frills small donut shop where several display cases and the order counter was directly in front of you upon entering, a couple indoor tables/chairs (none outside), legible menu up on the wall behind the order counter with a separation of Plexiglass between you and the salesperson due to COVID-19. Plenty of natural lighting came through the front glass walls (although semi-covered by some pictures and signs) and door while soul-sucking electric fluorescent ceiling lights covered the rest. I didn't notice any TVs nor any background music. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/peters-donuts-sun-valley?select=5zgKOFet6ReidK4b96xg7w
ATTIRE
Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
Peter's Donuts was a pleasant surprise and definitely made my "best of apple fritter" list! Oddly enough, I've driven by this strip mall many times as I caught the 5 South freeway a block away. All the treats were fabulous (mind you they were ALL eaten the following day!), the prices comparable, and the service exceptional. Although they also sold coffee/drinks/tea, pastries, and various breakfast items, I didn't notice any ice cream, sandwiches, or Lotto. Plus, it's always a pleasure to support a mom & pop small business. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $4.50 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, this was a CASH ONLY establishment which meant my credit card of course wasn't accepted (the only negative)... AMEX! 4.0 STARS read more
