I rented a moving van for a one-way trip from New Jersey to Tennessee. Overall, the rental process was smooth, and the staff were courteous and professional. Unfortunately, the van's air conditioning stopped working during one of the hottest weeks of the year, turning what should have been a manageable trip into a very uncomfortable experience. As soon as I noticed the problem, I contacted Budget Roadside Assistance. Their first solution was for me to take the van to a repair shop. Although Budget offered to cover the repair costs, I declined because I was in the middle of a long-distance move and simply couldn't afford to spend hours taking their vehicle in for maintenance or waiting for repairs. The following day, Budget offered to replace the van and even send a crew to transfer all of my belongings. I genuinely appreciated the effort. However, when I asked for an estimated arrival time, they couldn't provide one. Instead, I was told to wait at least another hour just to receive an update, after which I would still have to wait for the replacement van and for the transfer of all my belongings. I was already at a hotel close to checkout time and needed to continue my trip. Waiting an indefinite amount of time wasn't a realistic option, so I completed the entire journey without air conditioning. I recognize that Budget made sincere attempts to resolve the issue, and every representative I spoke with was polite and helpful. My disappointment is not with the employees but with the contingency process. For customers in the middle of a cross-country move, the proposed solutions were simply not practical. I hope Budget improves its procedures so future customers facing a similar situation can receive faster and more effective assistance. read more

Had 2 reservations with 2 separate locations for a rental and one location calls me to tell me I'm on a waiting list I call customer service they send me to a second location which two old people are basically like screw you we have nothing but go here get in an Uber and go to tjr 3rd budget ! Here before 6 and no one is here . Truck was dangerous to drive and wanted to exchange it but ended up have to rent from uhaul for the extra days we needed which was definitely worth the switch . DO NOT GO HERE. This was the worst experience we've ever had renting a car. It was as if the older woman at the front desk (short hair) did everything in her power to be difficult and rude throughout the entire process. Really poor representation of Budget. First, she told us that the car we were going to rent for moving (a van) wasn't available and tried to get us to take another small car that just would not have worked. Turns out she DID have the car. Then, a few minutes after we left (with the correct car thankfully), I got a call and was rudely reminded that I was ONLY ONE SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVING. I WAS the one driving and she had already reminded me of this 4 times in a condescending manner. Now, this woman is trying to charge us for an extra day when we have proof that the car was to be rented until the evening. I had a reservation for a cargo van for over a month for my son to use to move. We had to get the van and not a bigger truck because of where the property was located. We received a confirmation the night before in an email. When we went to pick up the van, I was told they had no van and would give me a 16ft box truck for the same price. They said they called to let us know. We did not receive a call and we cannot use the 16 foot box truck (which was not at this location by the way, it was in Hackensack and I would have to pick it up there). I again told them I cannot use the 16 ft box truck. They called around for a van but could not find one. I had to cancel and was left with no vehicle to move but UHaul came to my rescue. And to put salt in the wound, they charged me $75 for canceling.....when THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE VEHICLE I REQUESTED. Needless to say, I called corporate and had the $75 credited back to my credit card. Lol where do I start. Made a reservation to rent a car, got in the car and it smelled like someone smoked a whole pack of cigarettes in the car. Went inside to complain about the smell of the car, and they tell us "oh that's just the smell of the sanitizer we use. We've had a lot of complaints about it" yes that's the sanitizer you used to mask the smell of the cigarettes. I'd still like another car. After complaining a 2nd time they finally gave us the keys to another car when they could've just apologized in the first place. read more

This is the best rental establishment for people in NYC on a budget. The prices are significantly lower than NYC prices (I'm including the outer boroughs). It's not too hard to get to on the NJ Transit bus, and the staff there were extremely friendly and offered to pick me up from the bus stop down the road when I got off at a different stop than I meant to. There's a good Italian pizza/pasta restaurant across the street and a gas station right by the place. Also, Budget unlike some other rental chains allows you to buy only liability insurance letting your credit card cover the collision insurance. (At other places I've been forced to buy a 2nd collision insurance just to get liability.) This is a real neighborhood place with a human vibe. The people working treated each other and the customers well. I picked up the car and dropped it off at the same time of day, and the same employees were working. I have so many times been charged unreasonably at other places for things that were not my fault - and had to spend time on the phone with call centers. This would not happen here, since you are dealing with the same people face to face who gave you the car in the first place. So if anything came up you could talk about it right there, and they would have no trouble reading their own handwriting. :-) Finally, I got a phone call after I dropped off the car asking if I had left behind some shoes in the trunk! I have rented from this place at least 5 times since I got rid of my car last year because they're open on Sunday's and that is the only reason I went back, truly! The first couple of times were fine, I picked up my rental and there was no problem. But the last few times...Oh My God...really??! A business of this nature can still get away with providing sub-par service in this day and age?! Apparently, there are 2 women working there, Cynthia and Debbie. I think it's Debbie who is usually there when I pick up/drop off the car and I have never seen anyone more miserable than this woman at her JOB. She clearly has no interest in being there and it SHOWS - never cracks a smile and really her only goal is to get you out of there and never see you again. It's almost uncomfortable being served by her. I guess she doesn't realize that if she keeps treating customers like crap they just won't come back and then she'll really be miserable because she'll be out of a job. The last time I picked up a rental it was Cynthia who handled my reservation. She asked me if I was okay because I was boiling hot after my walk from the Kingsland train station (I thought, at least she's nice)...she looked at me and said they would've given me a ride...news to me! All this time they could've picked me up?? First time I'd heard it, I don't see it in their website either...great customer service!! (yes, I'm being sarcastic) And I'm paying $180 for a 2 day rental...you would think...nope, not at this Lyndhurst location. Anyway, I decided I would purchase the option of having them fill up my gas tank when I returned the car...now I may have rushed through the online reservation and not caught everything I needed to know about that option, that's on me. HOWEVER, BEFORE I left their office I noticed a giant sign against the wall regarding refueling and saw various prices relative to re-fueling. I specifically stopped and said...am I being charged market value for gas or not and quoted the $2.00 per tank there...Ms. Cynthia replied "Yes" I would be charged the market value price of $2.00 per gallon. She was wrong...when I looked at my bank statement I saw a refueling charge for over $80. Say what?? Now, why in the heck would I stupidly agree to have these super incompetent people refuel a Toyota Corolla for $9 an hour when there's a gas station nearby? I was wrong to trust them, I'll take responsibility for that but come on??! Does anyone there care about the customer?? Why are the still employed there?? I will never, ever, EVER rent from this place again. I suggest you avoid it too, like the plague. I am going to go out of my way to rent exclusively from Enterprise - THEY KNOW customer service. They pick you up at your home or nearby, they drop you off, they greet you with a smile...ALWAYS!! I mean they're genuinely interested in convincing you to come back. I mean they are truly amazing and that goes for every location I've rented from. The only reason, again, that I didn't rent from them to begin with is because they're not open on Sunday's in my neighborhood but given the incompetence at this Budget sacrificing one day for better service is completely worth it, in my book. read more
