Poor service! I have a normal credit card (I opted to not get their extra insurance) for some reason, even after entering my physical & mailing address the whole transaction got cancelled. I had car reserved for 3 days, turned in a day and half early as plans changed. he NEVER opened his mouth and SAID anything about rate change didn't want to give me a receipt when I demanded one and asked WHY price was ONLY a few dollars less then 3 day rental he said price changed I said give me the keys back and I will return tomorrow he said no I closed it out. If I could give minus numbers I would. Booked a rental truck several weeks ago to move our graduate back home. Received 3 email confirmations even one a day or two before. Fly up here to pack her up and no truck is available. Troy who was working the desk had zero sympathy and essentially told my husband to pound sand. Regional customer service suggested we drive back to sacrament where we had just flown into to pick-up a truck. Tried to elevate and he wouldn't give us contact numbers, not even corporate pretty much stating the buck stops here and a reservation doesn't mean you get what you booked. Now we are forced to send more $$$ and fly back to move her out in a couple of weeks. read more

Do not rent from this location. The guy that works there does a sloppy job of preparing trucks. I left the lot and the truck was hella shaking, drove 25 miles to my storage unit and when I got out to look at the tires one rear tire was hella bald and had a chunk missing with wires exposed. The guy didn't even do the walk thru with me,when I asked he said he already did it and had the paper marked up. The 3 other tires were new and one tire was old with bald spots. Who doesn't change out a tire? This location. When I called the location back about 30 mins after I left he said to call roadside assistance. Which I did and had to wait from 3pm to 1030pm to get a new tire. Roadside assistance is also a joke. Budget once I am done with my move, you will most definitely be hearing from me! read more

After using this company, I firmly believe I will always pay extra and go to Enterprise in the future. I made reservations online about 3 months in advance. I read ALL of the fine print and was expecting to pay a certain amount for a certain car. When I got there, they insisted on charging my credit card an additional $200 deposit. That was NOT in the fine print. Even though I got the deposit back after returning the car, I was very irritated because I don't have a very high limit on the card I wanted to use anyway, so that extra unexpected 200 was ALMOST enough to make me cancel my reservation. But I go ahead and pay. Then they show me my car. I asked for a large sedan because we were making a long road trip with 4 people in the car. I ordered large sedan instead of SUV because it was $400 more for an SUV than a large sedan. They gave me a Mazda 3. If you know anything about cars, you know that is a compact car. When I questioned this, they told me it was up to their discretion to decide was was compact and what was large sedan, and they felt the Mazda 3 was a large sedan. We were very, very crowded for the entire road trip. I no longer care that this place has the lowest prices. I just want to pay exactly what I was quoted for exactly what I asked for. If I could give a zero I would. I get the rental car and leave the lot, maybe drive a total of 15miles on it because I don't feel safe with the breaks & the fact that I was followed by two vehicles while driving it, I'm assuming because I had an out of state license. It was extremely uncomfortable being followed almost all the way to my place. So I only drove it to and from work one day out of the two full days I had it. Turn it in and I'm honest about how the gas just went down as I was pulling in. I'm informed I'll be charged $9.99 for every 1/8th of a tank and he goes to check the mileage then comes back and says it'll be $18.99 for the gas. Offers to let me go gas it myself however it's 4:30 and I have to go pick up my car before 5pm. They don't have a shuttle option to drive you to your car if it's in the shop so I had to ask a friend to meet me. Basically I paid for someone else's gas because there's NO way I drove enough to have to spend $18.99 on fucking gas. I recommended he check the breaks because once or twice I felt like I was going to stop and he said they keep up on the car check ups. So I didn't even bother to tell him it also sounds like it's working too hard. I've been in another car JUST like that one and I never hear it sound the way this car does. They put a $100 pending fee on your card which is normal for hotels and such too that he says should clear after the receipt prints. Overall I should've checked yelp before paying for a rental car from them instead of reading them the night after I got the car. I was hoping because some of them were so old it wouldn't be true. The building clearly use to be someone's home, it's not friendly or warm feeling. And I wouldn't recommend using them. Basically spent enterprise amount after my gas charge then if I had just used enterprise to begin with. Turning in the car was the icing to a not fun experience. I really like this place. They got a car for me on short notice, the car was almost brand new, and it took less than 10 minutes to get the keys in my hands. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is they REALLY need a new office. I think it's a run-down mobile home from the 80s? Ran into road construction on the way back which made me a little late on the return ... and they didnt charge me for another full day. I was very upset and disappointed by this place. The car that they gave us compared to the car that they had online was very different. When picking up the car, they didn't even do a walk around to check it out like most places I've been. There were random dents in it and it was filthy. It smelled like an ash tray and there were stains all over the seats. It looked like one of the employees might have just loaned us their car for the couple of days we needed it. For the past 4-5 years I have rented a 20' "U" truck to move college children anywhere from 600-1000 miles. Always a clean, quality vehicle with no issues. This year I saw a "student discount" for a Budget truck so I took a gamble. My rental was a one-way from Chico, CA to Phoenix, AZ during college graduation week-end. I arrived in Chico to find one truck waiting for me... a filthy, scratched, dented truck with fairly new tires. Immediately the associate agreed the truck appeared dirty and blamed the landscapers. Not sure how landscapers caused the windshield to be full of bugs but after some coercing he agreed to hose down the windshield before I left for nearly 1000 miles solo. Associate had forms ready, marked some of the existing damage and sent me on my way. I opened the truck and found a filthy cab, sticky soda stains all over the floor and console, chips, food and trash throughout. Worse yet there was a deep hole in the windshield about the size of a golfball. I immediately returned to tell the agent who was now on the phone. Without putting the phone down he told me it would be "no problem, he had it documented" and that was the only truck he had. Without an option, I photographed the windshield damage and left. As I drove I was unable to put anything on the floor of the cab or console because it was so filthy and worried as I drove thru the desert heat that the windshield would shatter. In hindsight it was unsafe!!! As soon as I arrived at the Budget drop-off in Phoenix, the agent there met me and immediately remarked, "Wow, something really hit you hard on the way down!". He was very nice and I told him it was there to start with and I had pictures, but that the agent in Chico couldn't be bothered to get off the phone. He immediately told me I wasn't going to be charged because I bought insurance, but that he could not rent the truck until he replaced the windshield BECAUSE IT WASN'T SAFE!!! The Chico agent is the "face" of Budget and in my opinion is dishonest and runs a shoddy rental agency. He clearly has no standards for the product bearing the Budget name or the safety of the customers. Initially I spoke to the Phoenix office, two different customer service reps on the phone, and had email exchanges with two other reps. I was eventually offered less than 10 percent of my rental as restitution and basically treated like I was bothering them with my complaint. Based on this experience I will never rent from Budget again, and I will encourage others to join me in my boycott. I paid a substantial (to me) amount of money for a stressful, unpleasant and unsafe experience. read more

Terrible customer service! I tried to rent a car from this Budget, and upon picking up the car, was told it wasn't old enough. That's fine, I understand there are legal age limits. The problem I had was with the guy there. He was very unhelpful and told me I could cancel my reservation in the store, but it would be a lot easier for both of us if I did it online... They ended up charging my credit card anyway. I called back the next day and apparently they were too busy to talk to me. He asked if he could take down my name and number and call me back as soon as they were not so busy. I said sure. I NEVER got a call back! I have rented several vehicles (as in cars/trucks, not big moving trucks) from this Budget over the last couple of years. In my experience Budget is the lowest priced car rental agency in Chico, and that's what I'm looking for. I rent my vehicle online and pay online as well, and when I arrive to get my vehicle it is there and ready to go. I have always dealt with a man named Troy and he is professional and friendly. I never have to wait when picking up or returning a car. Although one rental was specifically an F-150, for my car rentals I was actually offered a choice of several vehicles they had available in that price range which I thought was a nice touch. I had one car that wasn't as clean as I would have liked but that has been my only complaint so far. I will most likely rent from this Budget again in the future. read more

Repeat customer. Returned my car clean and early. When I got home I saw that they charged me $100 for cleaning even though myself, my wife and my brother cleaned the car this morning. When I called back to speak to the owner, he told me the car was FILTHY. When I protested he hung up on me and didn't answer when I called back. I called the corporate office and filed a complaint against the branch and the lady I spoke to told me the owner said it took them two hours to clean the car., even though it was 40 MINUTES AGO! They are liar, thieves and don't care about keeping customers. I will never use this company again and will tell everyone I know about what happened to me. read more

I had rented from Enterprise in the paat, but decided to try Budget. The location is janky, the cars unimpressive, and the service is subpar. The refund took two weeks to come back to me, and was broken into two parts, overall highly inconvenient. I was so underwhelmed and treated so shabby that I will never go there again. read more

I made a reservation and prepaid online When I arrived they reaised the price by 33%. I called the Customer Service and was told I would be refunded the difference when I returned from my trip. I was not refunded the difference. I will not deal with a company that makes a reservation at a specific price, then changes that price with no other changes to the reservation..It was like showing up at the airport and suddenly my ticket was 33% more. My plans were made and I either walked away or agreed to the new price. I would not put your plans in jepoardy with this company. Do not trust their online reservations, they accpet reservations for cars they do not have. read more

I used this location to rent and also return a moving truck. I set my reservation online and called the day of to confirm the truck was still available. The process was so easy and quick! Troy was the man behind the counter, and he seemed both professional and genuine. Some negative reviews got me a little worried about this location, but Troy was super relaxed and didn't seem shady in any way. He offered all the extras but didn't make me feel bad for declining them. I got a great deal on the rental. I look forward to using them again. read more

Troy and Kevin are the gentlemen that work the front desk, and both have provided me with exceptional customer service for the last several years. I regularly take out-of-town trips and utilize rental vehicles often. Both of them work hard to please their customers, and I enjoy the benefits of being able to call Troy in advance to inform him of my specific rental needs, whether economy, sedan, or SUV - depending on my trip - and he always delivers. On a few occasions I have needed a rental while my car was at the mechanic, and Kevin would drop me off and pick me up. So possibly the worst customer service ever. I called and reserved a car on a Sunday afternoon with the 800 number because they were already closed. No confirmation email. Called a few hours later to see why and the broken English person had completely spelled my name wrong leading to no email and lost reservation, a few minutes later re confirmed. The next morning while waiting in the parking lot for the place to open, a guy from the Esplanade office calls me and says "they don't have any cars and would have to put me on a waiting list and maybe I could rent a car tomorrow ". I explained I was supposed to be on the road already to make it to work out of town. He then said "Yeah! You and 50 other people! " This store is shady at best. I agree with all the negative reviews of this business! Horrible customer service. Was helping my niece in Chico with a rental from Budget to move back down to Fresno. Made the reservation online. They called the next morning before my niece was going to pick up the truck and said they don't have any trucks available until mid June! After several attempts from my niece and my mom to discuss this with the guy at the budget rental with no luck, I called him to discuss and gave him my niece's name which was on the reservation, he said, oh yeah her, I've talked to her like 4 times already on the phone. Then he said, you can go on the website right now and make 10 more reservations, doesn't mean we will have a truck available. He was rude about it and didn't bother to explain about the reservation. My niece called the corporate office and they said they will work something out to get her a truck. Turns out she had to drive to Citrus Heights, almost 2 hours away. When she gets there, they tell her she can't rent the truck because I reserved it with my credit card and I had to literally be there to swipe the card. Would've been nice to let us know over the phone before driving 2 hours. Either way, worse customer service at these budget locations. Not renting from then anymore. read more

My husband and I travel often and have rented several cars from Budget in Chico, CA. The service has been okay and tolerable, until our last rental in May and probably would not rent from them again. My assessment based on multiple rentals is that whoever manages the cars does not really pay attention to the incoming and the reserved outbound rentals. Many times we have been told times that depending on the inventory at the time of pick-up determines what type of vehicle we will get. We have tried advance contacts (via in person and phone) with the local representative to make sure our reserved vehicle/equivalent is available upon pick-up, but with no avail. It has been hit and miss each time. We feel that we are not getting what we paid for. Basically, the management is that some customers may get lucky enough to get an upgraded vehicle because they happened to pick up their car when there is a better inventory. We would not recommend this rental place, unless personnel and management changes. read more
