Rented a car for a week and returned it just 10 minutes late. The guy there who I believe is the manager (spoke very bad English, couldn't understand him well) didn't mention anything about a late fee. He checked the car, smiled, and said everything was fine. I even asked to confirm, and he said yes. Then the next day, I see a $60 charge on my credit card. I called and spoke with Laura, who was rude and not helpful at all. On top of that, the car itself wasn't in great shape. scratches, dings, and not very clean. I've had better experiences with Budget/Avis, but I'll definitely be using a different location next time. Such a scam. Use any other car rental company. My car is in the shop so I reserved a car for 7 days which was priced at $237. I was fortunate that the auto shop offered me a free loaner car so after only having the rental for 2 days and 8 hrs, I turned the car back in. They said they would only charge me for the amount I had the car yet somehow that ended up being the same price as the 7 days. They said my new daily rate for an old NISSAN SENTRA was $77/day instead of the initial $33/day making it the same price as the 7 I originally reserved. I had also made a separate reservation prior to this for only 2 days and that was $79 total. Doesn't make any sense. You could go on Turo and get a much nicer car for $77/day. read more

Received a confirmation email yesterday as my move is now two days away- I called today to see if I could extend that time by two hours, and the woman on the phone says "we don't have no trucks available, yes I see your reservation but I'm telling you right now we aren't going to have anything so I don't know what you want me to do but you can call the 800 number" Completely apathetic and unapologetic. Received a call the next day telling me that they won't have any trucks available and to call Budget customer service and have them find me a truck. I spent the next several days making calls to customer service trying to find a truck, and Budget eventually found one for two days after the original pick-up date, once again at this location. Received a call the next day from the location saying "we don't got no trucks". Tried to resolve it with Budget customer service and was told that there are no trucks in CA because everyone is moving out of the state. They then explained that a reservation does not reserve a truck, only the rental rate. I cancelled the reservation and found a truck for the same day at U-Haul. They had scores of trucks and it ended up only costing me about $5 more. If I had known the hassle it would be to deal with Budget I would have gladly paid double Budget's rental rate. This was one of the absolute worst experiences I've ever had in my entire life. While crossing the country, my trucks axel broke, which tore the tire. This left me stranded in the remote mountains of Colorado. Thank God I had cell phone reception. (Big ups to Verizon). The tow company took a few hours to get out to me. I was barely pulled off of the road with my life packed in the back of this truck, semis whizzing narrowly past. Tow truck couldn't take me far enough to get to the hotel I had reservations at (i called and the hotel wouldn't refund me), so far, a week later, I haven't been reimbursed for the difference I had to pay for the tow (even though I was told by them I WOULD be, promptly). The difference was over $1,300 which I would never have paid unless they said they'd pay me back! A mechanic came to my hotel where the truck got towed and said the truck was "embarrassingly rusted" and that the axel broke, also, the back axel was close to next. Budget also told me they put new brakes on the back.. the mechanic said THIS was a lie. Also, wet oil on the brake disc. Huge no-no!! Means the seal was broken or the brake line was leaking. The truck I had was determined un-drivable by the mechanic so I had to wait to get a new truck. It took two days. This caused me to spend my own money on two hotels as well as food, etc. that I didn't intend to spend money on. Finally they tow a new truck to me and have to take all my stuff out and load it into the new truck. All of my belongings are scattered in the parking lot. I go to start the new truck and the starter on the new truck wouldn't turn over at first! I had to get on the road anyway so I called and documented the issue. I finally get into Chicago. After getting gas, the truck won't start again for several minutes. The whole time I'm communicating EVERY issue with Budget. They say I'll be reimbursed as I bought full insurance. Not to worry, they say. However they couldn't help me until I close the RSVP (return the truck). I get into my final destination two days late, and they charge me for being late even though it wasn't my fault i was late. Over $300 somehow. I call Budget and they say they'll reverse the charge. Charge goes through. I'm now in over $2k of my OWN MONEY because I was given a truck that should have never been on the road. Other drivers or I could have gotten seriously hurt when the axel broke. Maybe even killed, I'm not even being dramatic here. The truck was left fishtailing and it was difficult to steer to the side of the road when the tire exploded. I write a letter as per instruction from Budget. They say I'll get a response in 48 hours. No response. I call again after 48 hours. They say I'll have a response by the end of that day, no response. I call the next day and speak to a supervisor. She says that there's no indication anyone has read my email and to send it again. I do so. Two days later. No response. She was also somewhat rude to me and I was calm with her. Not very cool after all I've been through. My credit card statement is due and I'm screwed. I'm out money and didn't make the first day to my new job due to the delay. If you read this and STILL rent a truck from this place you deserve the same experience I had. Spend a little more and get to where your going safely and on time. Pay for full insurance, for what?? Budget will not show love to you if you get into trouble on the road. I still have yet to get a penny back from them and it's about 3 weeks later. Bottom line.. I should have never ever been given such a dangerous truck in the first place. Came here to return a car I rented in San Luis Obispo. Upon arrival, the front desk attendant was not the nicest. She went to find the car in the patio and couldn't so she came back shouting and being impolite. Once she saw the car, and everything was fine I asked for my receipt and she said that the system was down, and they did not email receipts. Also told me I needed to call back to see if there were any extra charges (which I find weird since I had all sorts of insurance and the car was fine). A few hours later I call to ask for my receipt and for my surprise, someone else picked up the phone and said it was no problem to email it to me. Maybe there should be better training and communication between all employees, but certainly a smile and kindness wouldn't kill anyone. read more

The customer service at this location sucks in my opinion. There is only one guy at the counter -- Charles O'Neal, the self-proclaimed "owner" of this branch. Do not be fooled by his initial niceties. He will try to upsell you. He will try to convince you to buy additional insurance. He will soon turn sour and stubborn once he discovers you're not a dummy. I reserved a compact car (Ford Focus or similar). Yet Charles wanted to give me a Ford Fiesta, which is a smaller and cheaper car. Clueless Charles attempted to convince me that a Fiesta was within the "compact" class. My other option, according to Charles, was to pay an additional $10/day for an upgrade. No. I had to call corporate to sort it out; they gave me a free upgrade. Still, what a hassle. When it came time for the visual inspection, Charles adamantly refused -- yes, refused -- to mark up dings and scratches I pointed out. I repeatedly asked him to indicate the damage on the diagram. Instead of doing so, he raised his voice and told me, "You have 30 seconds to sign this." Excuse me? Eventually, I had to resort to documenting the damage myself on the diagram and taking photos with my phone. Even so, Charles refused to give me a copy of the notated diagram I had signed. More discussion. More argument. Finally I got my copy. Before I drove off, Charles scoffed at me, saying "In the future, take your business elsewhere." Clueless Charles will make your rental experience a painful and frustrating one. I guarantee there will be some hiccup in the process. The reviews about the incorrect charges are true. Beware having the hassle of trying to get them corrected. After three attempts to correct it, it's still not right. There's only one person checking people in and out so if the line is long, they check your vehicle return at a later time even though you returned the car on time or early. Then, they try to charge you an hourly fee because THEIR service took so long or they give you the car later than the reservation time. They told me that because the car was delivered to me late that I could turn it in late accordingly to the time difference. The invoice showed an incorrect time for when the car was delivered and returned. They tried charging me twice as much as I should've been charged. I had photos taken of the exact time I received the car. I talked to their national customer service and even though they admitted I was improperly charged, they said they could only refund me 50 percent of the incorrect charges because the invoice was closed. WTH! It was their mistake! Enterprise was so much better and have used them several times and had no shady charges. Enterprise's invoices and check-in & check-out process are so much more professional and honest. Budget's office was so ghetto and unorganized with supplies all over the place. Their prepay option is just a sneaky way to charge you twice. Oh and they don't do pick-ups or give rides home even though the website said it did for that location. Anytime it has been Johnson working I have had ZERO problems. Completely smooth transactions. However, Charles always has a attitude, rolls his eyes at me, talks to me extremely rudely and this time not only did he hold my card in his hand and charge it $1361 PLUS $250 for a non existent smell but he did while I was telling him I do not agree to the charge. This is my review for a rental with Avis at this location (it's a joint Budget / Avis location). I dealt with Charles. It was the beginning of a long an intense vacation for my 12yo son and I, and we were taking the car on a one-way rental to Sacramento, with skis and a lot of luggage in tow. I already had gotten a nice deal on the rental through the Costco website on a good full-sized vehicle, but Charles then gave us a free upgrade to a nice RAV4. Wow, this vehicle upgrade was a huge lifesaver, and we didn't know how much it would help us on our trip, at the time! It turned out to be a major plus on what turned out to be an epic vacation. Overall, Charles was very friendly, outgoing, and super nice. He really boosted our vacation. Thank you, Charles. She was friendly when I picked up the car on a Wednesday but when I brought the car back the following Wednesday she was just as surly and unfriendly as could be. She had a definite attitude, with no eye contact. Just said to me:"give me the keys" and walked off to inspect the car. I had filled it all the way to the top, even though it was not filled when I got it, and did not even get any positive feedback about that! Plus I left the car extremely clean, in my opinion, and again no comment or appreciation for that. Finally after 5 minutes with no eye contact, I asked her how her day was going and how she was doing. She told me she was tired but still did not look at me. I know that people have a right to not feel well on the job, but I do feel that as a paying customer I have the right to expect good customer service that is attentive and friendly. I would like to know of a car rental place, even a Budget car rental place where the staff is courteous and professional and appreciates their customers. For the record my car was a 2014 candy apple red Mustang, lol, because that was all they had on the lot on New Years Eve today I picked it up. While I was a little too much of a muscle car for my taste, it was still fun to drive. Her customer service skills are trash. My mom rented a car from here and Laura helped us and made the experience absolute garbage. To start she didn't even walk us to our car and do a walk through she simply pointed where the car was. But, honestly that didn't bother me as much when I called And spoke to her explaining she handed a car with a expired title and insurance card. We notice 3 hours after renting the car so my mom can take her CA driving test. I told her they wouldn't allow us to use the car because these reasons. She was very rude. She went straight to "well you didn't say that's what you needed the car for" since when did you have to tell a car rental place what your using the car for to get a valid title? We said errands. And she said well if the cops stop and run the tags nothing wrong so what's the issue. But, like why is the paperwork in the glove compartment expired? Why has it not been updated? By law you are required to drive with a valid registration! At this point I want my mother to get a full refund. Because, like why are y'all renting cars out and handing expired titles? Well her and sonny just refused at all to listen. Mind you sonny just putting his two cents in also no help! Long story short. She charged my mom a Full day after having the car 2 hours. Didn't help to even find a solution to the problem.... I called customer service on the phone and they issued my mother a FULL REFUND! Even gave us a free one day rental on top!! Missing Charity in this location, these 2 people are always so accommodating. Been a customer since 2015 and they are the first place I go to or make reservations if I do need a car. First of all they make people wait outside in the scorching sun who are already probably tired and irritated from long plane rides (which was my case) and the wait was over an hour long. They have non working water fountains that people use as ash trays. I called in advance because unfortunately I don't have a credit card in my name and they told me that as long as I have my roundtrip itinerary I can use my debit card. So it's finally my turn and I am told that they need to run a credit check on my debit card. Huh? To me, that makes no sense because I obviously don't have a credit card because I don't have any credit. But of course I'm on vacation and I need a car to travel around so I agree and give them my social to check my credit. on my freaking debit card. Then they tell me that I got denied so I can't rent the car. LOL. Then my boyfriend who I am on vacation with and is visiting from another country tries to rent it in his name and he gives them a card that was in his mother's name and they continue to process the rental. And by the way she raised up the price from 300$ to almost 700$ by adding insurance which we didn't want. Even when I told them that I didn't want the insurance, she kept telling us in a nasty tone "just know that you'll be responsible and you're going to have to pay if the car is damaged." So before I start arguing with the stubborn lady my boyfriend just tells her to go ahead with it. After he signs everything and prints out the receipt she goes "wait. Let me see the card again?" To those who are thinking about renting a car from Budget - beware of hidden fees, poor customer service, and subpar vehicle maintenance I recently rented a car from budget for 5 days. When I picked up the car it reeked of smoke, to the point where it was giving me nausea to drive the car. I communicated this with the representative and he said there was nothing he could do for the next 30 min to an hour. I needed to head to Santa Barbra soon, but the smell of the vehicle was so great that I decided to wait the hour for a solution. Once the hour passed, the representative downgraded my vehicle (from a keyless Nissan with CarPlay and leather seats to another car that lacked all of the above) I communicated that the car was a downgrade only to receive a shrug and an alternative option to spray down the car with something that would ease the smell... I reluctantly agreed and to no surprise the spray did little to ease the smell and ultimately the nausea that came with it. When needing clarification on the return process, I called the same representative to ask how much it would cost to extend my contract by one day. He clearly stated that I would be charged another day based on the rate in my contract - so US$ 36 Once the car was returned I saw charges on my account for almost 60 dollars, nearly twice the amount anticipated! If I had known about these fees I would NOT have kept the car for an extra day I called because I felt the need to tell the representative that this is not the way to treat a customer nor run a business, but he simply talked back to me and claimed to have done everything correctly. Very disappointing. Needless to say, I won't be renting a car from Budget again. I like to avoid headaches both figuratively and literally on my vacation. One of the best places to rent from! I always get what I need when I reserve a car here. The individuals who run this place are one of the nicest people I have met. Even if something goes wrong, which is understandable, considering this type of business is always fast paced and highly requested by tourists I am still satisfied with the customer service. We always rent from budget and this location is ridiculously bad, first and last time, never going back there .I had a reservation at 10:30am but my flight got delayed. We got to the location at 1pm and explained but they said at the counter that the I had to pay more for a bigger car because they have a low inventory and didn't have any more small cars. That was not the problem, they guy that was behind the counter , Elvis Bajraktarevic , was extremely rude, he said that it was not their problem and that his boss said that they will only hold reservations now for 1 hour, I told him that in the reservation confirmation didn't mention anything about the 1 hour policy and he said that although is not there I should know. How are we supposed to know when other locations have other policies? He was extremely rude . When I asked where I could go to leave a review about it he threw my credit card and my driver's license to my face and said that he wasn't going to give me a car. The disrespect coming from that guy was beyond words. Everybody is entitled to leave their honest review , him refusing service because his service is poor and disgusting is beyond immature. My sister and I made a reservation for a 12seater van through online. So now we went to this location on Friday morning (01/27/17) at 7:30am and we talked to Charles. Charles is the only one who is working there on that day and he was able to help us to sign the paper. Charles was nice but tricky. He asked us if we want to get an insurance for the van and we said "no we don't want the insurance for the van" then we went outside and he check the van if there's scratches, or any dent. Well he didn't see anything damages on the car so he gave us the key and we are good to go. Now we returned the van today (01/30/17) Monday 7:30am all of a sudden Charles charge us extra $100+ because he said that " we want the insurance for the van" when me and my sister said we don't want any extra charges on the van meaning insurance for the car.
