When picking up the car the windows were so smeary that I could not see out of them when getting out of the parking garage and into the sun. I had to pull off the highway to clean the front and rear windshields so that I could continue my drive. Secondly and even more important was that a warning notice came on indicating the tire pressures were low and needed to be checked and recalibrated. After being unsuccessful getting any sort of response or help from Budget Customer Care or roadside assistance I stopped at a couple different gas stations to try and get someone to check the tires. Unable to get help anywhere I decided to take the risk and continue driving. Fortunately I made it safely to my destination. Upon my arrival I called Budget again and submitted a complaint about the car's condition. I was told to find another Budget location in a location I was not familiar with and have the car swapped! I still had a number of miles to drive over the next few days hoping the tires would not give me a problem. That is, after I went out and thoroughly cleaned all of the windows! So very disappointed. And the final kicker was being charged $43.89 to top off the gas tank when I had filled it approximately 90 miles previously! Expensive for 3-4 gallons of gas! read more

I rented a car from them this past weekend to attend my Army Reunion in Bedford, and it was a great experience. Initially, as others have said, there was a long line while most of the other car companies had no line... at all. I texted my sister and told her that it was probably going to take 30-40 mins. A couple of minutes later, a representative came and said that if there were any Preferred or FastBreak customers, they could go to the office outside. I have Fastbreak, so I went to the outside office. I texted my sister and told her about it, and that there was only one person ahead of me. I0 minutes later, I was walking out to my car. I showed the desk representative the text I had sent to my sister, and she was like, "No ma'am, I will get you out in a few mins." She did. The process was smooth. The rental price was great, and the car was nice. Several others from my group also rented from them and had a great experience. My sister was sent an email that allowed her to do everything and walk straight to her car without having to speak to a rep. When I returned the car yesterday, two reps were waiting. They processed the return as I gathered my things from the car. It took about 3 minutes. Unfortunately, I left my disabled placard hanging in the car, and I'm attempting to contact them now. But I have no complaints at all. I understand the frustrations with the wait, but they definitely do not deserve a 1-star rating. None of the staff that I encountered was rude, including the ones inside that I watched while I initially waited in line. All of their reps were very courteous and kind. read more

Terrible service! I rented a Nissan Rogue for the weekend from Indy to Louisville, which broke down on a Saturday afternoon, customer service had to tow the car and was routing me to Cincinnati airport over an hour away. He claimed it was the closest location open (Louisville airport was open but not in his system). I wasted over 4 hours waiting in the cold for a tow. I then had to waste several hours on Sunday calling customer service back to receive a new vehicle at the Louisville airport location. They gave me a hard time saying the tow company or Budget should have given me a form saying where the car was being towed to. I finally got it cleared and they put me again in a Nissan Rogue that had a service engine now signal on the dash. They traded out that car for Kia Sportage that had a service now oil change needed, I checked the oil and it was very dirty. Budget then put me back into another Nissan Rogue "from their preferred lot" this Rogue had bald tires, no wiper fluid in very snowy conditions. I was forced to take this vehicle in order to make my flight, I did not feel safe at all. I fill the car up an exit before the airport and they proceed to charge me over $144 for fuel claiming I didn't fill up the car. Customer service is only comping me 1 day for this huge inconvenience and gross neglect on providing a safe environment for drivers. I have pictures of all the cars and service lights on the vehicles as well as receipts for the gas. It's shocking how a company is trying to rip off people, and not hold accountability for their actions or lack there of. If I could give this 0 stars I would, I highly recommend using a different car rental agency. read more

Before I drove off the rental car lot, I noticed front end damage. I asked the front desk if there was another car available however, there was no additional cars. I asked the lot attendant about the damage and they say, they noted it when the car came to the lot. I again asked for the damage to be documented and they provided a receipt before leaving. I'm requesting a case be open regarding the damage claim as it was done before driving. I'd like to review the log book of the car that was rented as the damage was noted by this budget rental car place upon return and before I checked it out. Please see the attachments. read more

RENT AGAIN? No. It's 8:15pm Tuesday and there is only one very long 30minute+ line to get a car not just for Budget but also for Avis and Payless. Avoid these here! read more

I waited in line for 45 minutes to get to the representative. There were about 30 people in line the whole time and 3 agents. It was 6 p.m. I finally got the paperwork and was told to head outside and my car would be waiting for me in a designated stall. I had to wait another 45 minutes for a car. None of the agents outside knew what car was going to be available when. At one point 1 agent asked if anyone wanted a van or a pickup truck. The first car available to me was a large SUV and I had reserved a full size car. They said there was 1 person receiving the returned cars, washing them and then bringing them over. A smaller SUV came around the corner and I requested that. The car had over 80,000 miles; the Car Needs Service light alternated with the Check Oil light the whole time; it smelled like disinfectant or some kind of cleaning chemical and did not clear up over the 10 day rental, even with windows down. I got a headache every time I was in the car for any period of time; All of the fabric seats were nasty. It almost seemed as if someone had just thrown their car into the rental pool. Horrible experience. I will say that every agent was patient and helpful. read more

Rented a car from here for a work trip. When returning to the airport I dropped the rental off, received my receipt after the person scanned the barcode of the car. Several days later received additional charges for well over $1,000.00. When I called up, they told me I haven't returned the car. I've now been dealing with their loss prevention people; four times I've called. The answer I keep getting is that, "We can't get a hold of anyone at the airport location." what an awful experience. they now have only one counter for Avis, Budget and Payless. And tonight (Monday night) they only had two people working. there were EIGHT empty service stations. i had to wait almost an hour and a half to get to the counter, and there's still a line of about 30 people waiting behind me. clearly trying to save a buck by cutting staff... well now you have angry customers... read more

Budget shares a counter with 4 other car rental companies. The line at the counter had 35 people waiting for one of the 2 agents. I asked the agent if this was a unique issue and he said it was not. After 45 minutes in line I went to the lot to find the car. I was smart enough to walk around the car and saw a significant dent in the driver side front panel. I had the exit service agent verify the dent and note it on the service contract. While driving the car I had alarm lights for low tire pressure and gas cap was open. Why does Budget add $200 to an already very high cost? Granted the agent claim the additional $200 will get reversed, but I don't understand why the add on is charged. read more

If there was something lower than 1 star I would do that. The website let us fully book a 12 passenger van. Paid and everything. Then we arrived at the store to find out that they actually didn't have it. And couldn't help us. So if you are in a pinch or have any other option, do not use this company. By the time we found out that they didn't have the car, all of the other companies were closed. read more

I arranged for a rental car SUV at the Indianapolis Airport. I waited in line for more than an hour, got a Lincoln SUV and was happy with it even understood that waiting in line is common everywhere because no one has enough staff. OK ...on the road to a friend's house. Drove it for an hour to my destination. No problem. Then 5 days later I drove 120 miles to another friend;s house. On the trip a warning came up that says "low Oil Pressure". I call Budget, and was told to take it to an oil place like Jiffy Lube, which I did. The Jiffy Lube Mgr told me it was too dangerous to drive. OK, now I call Budget again. They want to give me a mini van. I said no I didn't feel comfortable with that. On hold again and now he tells me they have a car 35 miles away. OK. They sent an Uber to pick me up and take me to the South Bend airport. Do they have a car for me? NO!!! Offered a van or small truck. NO!!! Finally after I burst into tears they offered me a Chevy Malibu that was just returned but hadn't been cleaned. OKay, I'm desperate I took it. Ten miles later, the OIL CHANGE DUE message came on. Drove it back to the Indianapolis Airport anyway, the next day, after I arranged to stay in Indiana another day. Filed a complaint....they want to give me another chance next time I need a car. I DON'T THINK SO!! Offer me a refund or a free 7 day rental and I might think about it! read more

Although it feels useless to add my one star review since they clearly do not care, but here it is. I rented a car from them on January 19th. Long story short, they rented me a car that did not have any tail lights. I called multiple times to resolve the issue ( have someone come fix it or send me a new car). I was too far away from a budget to resolve the issue. They wouldn't come to me. I didn't have time to go to them. The car sat parked for two days. Then I drive it back to airport where I was refunded my money for the rental. Easy enough. I just received a bill for $1100 for damages I did to a car that I wasn't even able to use. Please make sure you make them check your car in and out and you take your own pictures. I learned the hard way that if you don't, you have to pay for whatever damages they make up. read more

I can't stress enough how horrible this company is. I regret ever considering renting from this place. My quote for a compact car for 5 days was $550. Upon returning the car, my bank immediately showed a pending charge for $890. The next day, when the charge actually cleared it ended up being $1,450. After multiple calls to customer service, I have been told over and over that they had a "billing error" and would resolve the issue. Still no solution from Budget and meanwhile an additional $900 has been taken out of my bank account. Use this company at your own peril. read more

On Sept. 2, 2023 we flew from DC to Indianapolis, 1 hour 15min. flight. We reserved and prepaid for a Budget rental car. Upon reaching the Budget counter, we had to wait in line 1.5 hours (more than our flight time) to get our car. The other rental companies started with long lines, but quickly processed their customers. There were 3 Budget employees all sharing one walkie talkie to request for cars. Many people had Preferred Membership status but they too had to wait in the long line. In talking to other people in the line, one man said it was his third miserable experience with Avis / Budget in Indianapolis airport and he would NOT rent from them again. After we went to the garage, they gave us the wrong car. We tried to exit but the QR code would not work so we returned to the lone employee working in the garage. He gave us the right car and we moved all the luggage to the correct car. Then the QR code would still not work and the employee had to let us out of the garage. Everyone in the line including frequent travelers, said they had never experienced anything like the long Avis / Budget line and they had travelled all around the world. Why the Indianapolis Airport has such a problem I don't know but I will NEVER rent from Avis / Budget again. Save yourself some frustration and certainly DO NOT RENT an AVIS or BUDGET car at Indianapolis Airport. read more

We rented a vehicle for 2 weeks. When we made the reservation we declined the optional protection plan. Upon picking up the vehicle the woman at the Indianapolis desk let us know it was $34.99 per day and we said oh that's definitely more than we want to spend for a 2 week rental and she asked if we wanted it or not and both me and my husband said NO. We just dropped off the rental and of course there's a charge for $809 for the protection plan we told the rep we DID NOT WANT. Now they're saying it's nonrefundable and we accepted it when my husband signed the blank pinpad screen when picking the vehicle up. Seems like sneaky slimey business practices to add on a service we both made it clear we did not agree to and verbally declined at the counter. read more

I wish I could give this place ZERO stars, but it's not an option. Adam said he was 'giving' us an upgrade, but then we were charged for it on return. I had already paid for our rental, and noticed it when the charge came through on my card. When I called customer service and explained, ZERO help there either by both Jason and Marcy. Still waiting for a call back from a supervisor. I'll update if I ever get any help. Until then, go to another counter, there are plenty of other options. On a side note, Adam went through every 'page' of the electronic agreement insanely fast. I had to ask him to back up because I saw the word 'denied' flash on the screen and I thought it was my card being denied. . It was me denying the insurance. All that to say that he didn't go over the contract at all. read more

On May 4, I approached the Budget counter, with a reservation, to rent a car. The clerk ran my license- it came back "Red" and I was told he could not rent a car to me. He could not tell me why. NOTE: I rented from Budget less then a year prior with no issues. My license is clean. What if I had been alone? What if there were no other rental agencies at the location? Calls and emails to customer service- no help! I was told via one email that it could have been a false negative. Today, 5/16, 12 days later, is the first time I am told that I, and not and of the various agents I have been dealing with on the phone and via email, have to email a department to politely and professionally ask why my license was flagged. NOTE: I was told to not mention the possible false negative. NOTE: it is impossible to reach executives of Budget via telephone or email. I will never use Budget again. I plan on going on social media, and contacting whatever regulatory body to file a formal complaint- how can they treat customers like this- thankfully there are competitors...the agents that responded to my emails- wow- if they exemplify the level of commitment of the company- then it is sad...I mean, what company is designed that its executives cannot be reached? I mean the average Joe can technically call the White House.... Horrible set up! My second experience using the FastBreak service, but the first time at this location. Overall about 2.5 stars. As before, checkin was a breeze. The only hitch with checkout were the instructions - I followed the signs to the FastBreak checkout counter and I made it all the way over to the FastBreak checkout counter with all of my luggage only to find that there was no one at the counter. I had haul everything back inside for assistance, there I was given the information on which space to find the vehicle. Then, of course, I had to haul everything back across the walkway, past the FastBreak counter to find the vehicle. I was probably annoyed by this because I had just come off of a 5:45 am flight with one layover (flight travel time about 5 hours) and I still had another 2 hours to my destination. Either way, it would have been helpful to know that I should stop at the inside counter first. Really about 2.5 stars but I rounded up because (even though the right passenger door had a ding and made a popping noise when opened), the tank was full and I didn't have any other issues during the 10 day rental. read more

It seems everyone that works at Budget, including the management staff is utterly incompetent. On February 24, 2020 I rented a car with my employer credit card. I returned the car on March 2, 2020 only to find out the the brain dead rep charged both my personal and employer credit card for the same car. I've placed copious calls to both the local and corporate office requesting a receipts to present to my employer so that I can closed out my itinerary and get reimbursed from my employer. It's now March 11, 2020 and I still have not received any receipts. The local rep "Erick" told me it would take "24 hrs from the time he hit send for to receive the email with a receipt" or may he meant 24 months. Fyi. Horrid cancellation policy. Choose ALAMO instead! Made a reservation with Budget. My husband and daughter's flight was delayed and luggage was lost so by the time they made it over to the rental car company at the airport (11pm), they were closed. My daughter was playing in a volleyball tournament the next day about 20 miles away so they needed a car. They rented a car from ALAMO who was still open. :-) When I called to cancel the reservation the next day, they said they would charge me the full amount for 3 days (over $350). I don't see why they had to charge the full amount as they were out nothing, other than not renting that night to someone else. Completely ridiculous! This was by far my worst rental experience ever with a budget location. Thanks to a mistake by an employee I ended up with a $422.53 charge for the day with a one day $31 rental. I initially contacted budget asking if this particular location at IND airport accepted debit cards and was informed they do and if I prepay for the car I could also avoid the typical $200 hold placed on debit transactions. Excited by that I went ahead and reserved. When I arrived at the counter I asked the clerk Tim whether or not I could return the car to Fort Wayne where I was planning to visit so I wouldn't have to drive back to drop the car the next day. Tim looked up the rate and informed me that it was $390. I told him that total was obviously way too pricey for a one way trip and said I'd just keep the reservation as is. This is where Tim made a mistake. Instead of processing the transaction as is he mistakenly had left on the hold of $390 for the Fort Wayne one-way rate. Realizing the mistake he informed me it was just a hold and would fall off the next day once the car was returned. Not only was my account now debited the $31 I had prepaid but it was also charged $390 because he had searched for the rate with my debit card instead of simply searching on his computer. While the rate would fall off the next day the fact was that he left me not with even the standard $200 budget security hold, but instead a $390 hold along with my other $31 charge. So the things I needed to take care of in Fort Wayne I was left unable to do because I was given a surprise $420 charge out of my bank account. I had previously asked Tim for a manager and he informed me that no managers were available because they were on lunch leaving me sitting in the garage trying to contact budget customer service over the matter who apologized for the mistake but again said they couldn't remove the hold placed mistakenly by the employee and that the rate would fall off the next day. It left me wondering how these budget employees would feel if they had bills to pay that day and suddenly were told despite making a $420 mistake that it was just fine. The fact is that I was 1. Told by budget no hold charge would be given leading me to prepay their rental. 2. Was overcharged for the standard $200 hold because of a mistake by the employee. 3. When my bank account was left -$422.53 on a 1 day rental by their staff I was basically told to just deal with it until I returned the car. read more

This visit is in regards to 03/07/19. My family and I had just traveled back from New Orleans with connecting flight to Chicago. We were dead tired having to fly out at 5:30 am and literally running through the airport due to the long lines at New Orleans airport. I reserved a large 7 seat SUV through priceline and upon arrival there wasnt a long line. Yanni the lady working on the counter had no clue what she was doing. She gave attitudes and definitely misinformation. She kept saying we cant give you the priceline rate???? Uhhh whyyyy??? And also she told us it would have to pay $64 to add each driver who wanted to drive the car???? The heck????? This woman clearly doesnt know what she was doing. She became very frustrated and than was like I cant help you, just walk across the street and go to AVIS they can help you?? At this moment, I didnt care for Yanni to help us, cause she was rude, dumb, and really unprofessional. Like why is this woman working here??? Upon arrival at AVIS it took a good few minutes to get some assistance but once we did both the lady with the glasses and another gentleman was so helpful. I only wish we got there names! They were so nice and were able to give the rate we were priced. Able to accommodate us and even apologized for Yanni behalf, clearly Yanni knows nothing! Pretty sure they have gotten lots complaints on her. Yanni deserves no stars! I only have 2 stars because the staff at AVIS were amazing. If a manager is reading this, please check to see what AVIS staff worked on 03/07/19 around 12:30ish PM there were amazing! This was the absolute WORST customer service I've experienced! I rented the car after flying to Indianapolis. From there, I had to drive 75 miles to where I would be working that week. Later that night after sunset, I discovered that the vehicle had some electrical issue that caused the lights (headlight, parking lights and turn signals) on the right side to NOT work and the left side headlight seemed to be at a reduced power. I called budget and asked them to bring me a replacement vehicle and was told that I would have to bring the car to them. I tried to arrange to take it to a closer rental center. I tried to call to arrange to get a replacement left at a closer at a closer rental center. Although they were supposed to be open until 6pm, they apparently don't answer phones much past 4:00-4:30pm as I called 10-12 times over about an hour period. Budget told me that since the vehicle is "drivable" by their definition, I would have to bring it back to them despite the fact that the lights were not working/so weak that it was not safe to drive at night. They simply told me to wait until tomorrow and come during the day. I explained that I was here WORKING during the day and again asked if they could have a budget employee bring a new car to me and drive this one back and I was told they "weren't staffed to do that." I also explained that the inoperative lights also prevented me from being able to drive at night, leaving me stranded at my hotel after dark. They tried to "help" by telling me that they'd "likely" cover the cost if I were to receive a ticket (wow!). The manager (Marcus Dean) response to this was to explain that "these things (electrical issues) are beyond their control, so there was nothing they could do to prevent this. I agreed with that but mentioned that they could do something to correct the problem now that it has occurred, but he still refused and told me it was up to me to bring it back to them in order to get a replacement. I also asked them about a partial refund/compensation since I could not use the vehicle as I wanted/needed after sunset, I was told that I "might" be able to get a $25 voucher that I could use for a future rental from budget. Needless to say, I told them to keep it since I WILL NEVER AGAIN RENT FROM BUDGET!!!! Their "manager" Marcus, was the most unhelpful, unsympathetic, unapologetic person I've ever dealt with.
