I completed the checkin process prior to pickup so that I would not have to go to the counter as lined out. Only to have to still wait in line over 30 mins because my reservation still needed "completed". While I was waiting in line 2 of the desk people in the Gold area were having quite the conversation about cocaine while my 6yo son and wife sat waiting for me. After returning the vehicle a few hours prior to the original drop off time, I still received text messages threatening financial retaliation because "i had not returned the vehicle" 9 days after it was returned. We had to rent a car for 2 weeks and when we dropped it off at the end, we left something in the vehicle. We tried contacting the location but could only get through to 1800 numbers for Hertz. We went to the location and no one there would help us. However, when Steve Morris, a manager came in later that day, he found our item and took the initiative and care to call us. STAY AWAY - this Hertz location does not honor reservations! We reserved a car 3 months in advance of our trip to Indy. When we arrived after a 1h flight delay, a hertz employee informed us they were going to close soon. We said okay, we'll hurry. She then watched us load all our luggage, 2 car seats, a baby and a toddler into the car, and closed up shop right in front of us. She literally looked me in the eyes and told me to "go rent from Avis" while my baby was crying next to me and multiple other parties sat in their Hertz rentals unable to leave the lot. Everyone had to unpack their cars and find alternative transport. We ended up having to take an expensive cab and figure out how to get a new car a day before Christmas. I rented a car in Nashville and drove to Indy for work. I parked the car in the garage at the hotel and didn't drive it for 2 days. when I checked out and went to load the car, I wasn't able to get into the car. It was like the battery was dead. I called Hertz roadside and they sent someone right away. They told me to take the car and trade it at the Indy airport location because it had electrical issues. He said they would waive the gas fee due to not being able to turn the car off and to not encounter in further issues. When I arrived at the Hertz Indy location, they were extremely rude... Made it seem like I had done something wrong. I just want a safe car! She offered me 2 different cars. I picked 1 and went to the car. When I opened the door, I was blown away by the smell of smoke. I went back to the counter and asked for the other car... That car was filthy and had an odor, but they didn't have anything else, so I took it. I did ask the manager to at least clean the windshield off so I could see, and she said "it's that time of year. You can use the windshield wipers to do it". This entire process had already taken up 3 hours of my day, so I took the car through the car wash at the end of the airport entrance. Thankfully it cleaned up enough for me to see to drive back to Nashville. I filled the car with gas and took it back to Hertz Nashville airport. Can I just say I love the Nashville airport location!! They were so nice and even offered me a bottle of water! They closed my paperwork out and I noticed a transfer exchange fuel and service charge. He tried to fix but because the charge wasn't from that location he wasn't able to. I just said I would call and get it take care of. So far this morning I have been on the phone for a total of 3 different times and 2 hours all to get this charge taken off. Hertz why do you make it so hard when clearly, I didn't break the car. I couldn't help the car having an electrical issues. None of this was on me but the people at the Hertz Indy Airport sure made me feel like I was in the wrong and inconveniencing them. When you are the face that deals with the customers you should have a bit of compassion for what the person in front of you is going through. Where do I begin? I get to the airport around 9:30. I get my car walk to the parking spot it's at 114. Take a picture of it to send my wife so she can get a good laugh it's a KIA. No one is there to go over the car with me so I leave. I get to the gate. There two people there ask how much gas was in it then let me go. I go to my hotel. Next day I get up go to my job interview then back to the airport. Turn it in talk to the kid that worked there Logan was his name. I told him there was some damage that was there when I got the car. I said I had a picture. Logan said don't worry about it you are good. A few days after coming home I get an email from hertz stating that they are filing a claim against me for the damage. I contact my insurance company send them the picture. Then I get a call last night asking if I still had the car?! I am blown away that this is my experience with hertz I'm beyond shocked. read more

hertz rental car at the indianapolis airport is a crook. first they tried charging me for a rental that i didn't rent, then they are trying to charge me for the car i did rent for a smoking cleaning fee and i don't smoke and no one esle was in the car that smoked. i called hertz on 3/9/2024 and they said they would take the charge off. now i get a bill from a collection agency for the same $500 charge for cleaning. i was there in indiana for a funeral and this is how hertz treats people. i again called hertz back trying to take care of this and they tell me rudely they can't do anything. i called the collection agency and they say that hetz can remove the charges if they choose to. read more

1. Mini van was sent out with wear marks on tires showing excessive and dangerous tire wear. I should have looked closer, but I was expecting and paid for a car that was road worthy.. 2. Horn failed to work. found this out when alerting, or tried to alert an oncoming car in the wrong lane. There were three other times of this nature. 3. Sent out with an under inflated tire, and when I aired the tire the next morning, a piece of steel was imbedded in the tire. 4. Warning light on the dash showing that the stop/start switch needs service. Fearful that the car would not stop or start. 5. Windshield wipers were faulty. In heavy rain they could not squeegee the windshield effectively. I have used Hertz at other airports and found them most excellent, but this rental agency at this airport was horrible including the staff. They tried to lay the responsibility on me for taking out a defective car. I pushed back real hard and told the person that Hertz had failed in inspecting the car for road worthiness and it was their responsibility to certify the car for the road. At this airport it will be Enterprise Rentals. After my complaints they gave me 100 bucks off on the next rental. Not at this airport for sure. read more

I filled the vehicle up before dropping it off, and was still charged for fuel on the final invoice at a rate of $9.99 per gallon. There is no way to dispute the charge without a receipt for the fuel. It did not cross my mind to get a receipt since I didn't imagine the rental company would scam me for gas money. Crass operation. Do not rent from Hertz!!! I had a terrible rental experience with Hertz overall, but this location caused most of my issues. The battery on our rental died, which is not great but things happen. We got a jump start and were able to get to the Indianapolis airport Hertz to exchange the vehicle. We were charged $9.99 a gallon for not returning the vehicle with a full tank. I explained to the attendant( a woman named Queen) that I can't possibly refuel without shutting the car off and not being able to start it again. She told me there would be a charge as "the car isn't ours, it belongs to the location you rented it from. Maybe you can see if they'll waive the fee for you." Of course with a dismissive attitude and she refused to waive it. We rented from another Hertz airport location so that makes zero sense, Hertz is Hertz. I tried calling customer service several times and had a very hard time getting a human to speak to. I finally had to use the roadside assistance option to get someone. They told me they couldn't waive the fee as it didn't hit our credit card yet, but that they'd note our account so it would be waived when we returned the new vehicle. We returned the new vehicle and we're told they could not waive the fee and offered me $100 my next rental. We were also told there were no notes on our account to waive the fee. What a joke. The manager then told me that Indianapolis could waive the fee and that he'd reach out to them and get back to me. Of course he never did. I again called customer service several times and finally got someone who waived the fee. This shouldn't have been charged to begin with and been so difficult to address. I booked a rental through priceline.com for a full size car "Camry or similar" for Hertz at the Indianapolis Airport last week and upon check in the desk person said "How does a Charger sound?" Sure. I was not asked if I would like an upgrade. I was not told that I was consenting to upgrade charges. He gave no other options of alternatives and no indication that I was agreeing to PAY for an upgrade, not receive one simply because of a lack of inventory in what I booked ahead of time. Many times when renting a car I have had rental car company agents upgrade me at no cost because they didn't have what I pre-booked in inventory, and I assumed that such was the case here, or that a Charger was in my category. When I got home on Monday I discovered that I was charged an additional $45 ($52.75 with tax) on top of my original rental fee through Priceline. When I called Hertz Corporate they would only offer to reverse half of the up charge. This was downright deceptive and unethical and I will NOT be a customer of Hertz again at this airport or elsewhere if these are the kind of sales tactics their employees partake in without being upfront and honest with customers. read more

I usually don't go out of my way to write bad reviews, but in this case I'm going to make an exception. I reserved a car with Hertz, and then I came down with COVID-19. When I went to cancel my reservation (which was 5 days before my reservation), they charged me a cancellation fee of $100. I tried to call their customer service number to explain the situation and ask them if they had a COVID-19 exception policy. The recording said "all cancellations can be done online, and if you continue to talk to our customer service line, we will add 5% to your rental fee." Most REPUTABLE companies have a COVID-19 exception. Apparently, Hertz likes to take advantage of the COVID situation. I searched their FAQ database for any kind of COVID-19 exceptions to their cancellation policy, and it said "Nothing found." This is the second time I've had to cancel my reservation. Last time (which was like, 3 years ago) they charged me $50, and this time it is $100. How can they get away this? Most businesses will allow you to cancel without a cancellation fee (like hotels for example), especially since so many people are getting sick because of COVID. Please do not ever rent from this company ever. They are ruthless, cold, heartless criminals who just want to take advantage of people. I don't even see how people who work for them can do so with a clear conscience. read more

You don't have to wait/ take a bus. 2. You don't walk for miles and miles to get there. 3. I usually get an email telling me what stall my car is in. 4. Your name is on the board when you arrive. 5. If you have to go inside for something the employees acknowledge you. 6. When you return with the vehicle the employees acknowledge you and give you the feeling they know your there. 7. One word -- incompetence. But it seems to be company-wide, and not just limited to this location. The only way you can contact Hertz is to book a rental. All other ways are not possible. They incorrectly charged for an extra driver. I have not been able to resolve this. There is no phone number. If you go to their Website and click on "Customer Service," it says "No Results Found." This is the most correct thing I have seen about this company. I filled out the online form and have not received a response. I called the IND office and they said it was outside of working hours. (It is 1:30 PM on a non-holiday Monday.) So it transferred me to another menu and, after navigating all of the options (again), it said that no one was available. If you don't believe this review, go to the Hertz Website and pretend you are trying to resolve an overcharge. read more

Booked a reservation. When we arrived at the counter, found a family already in line but nobody at the counter. Waited 5 mins while trying to call the 800 number with no resolution. The line grew to 3 people and I left to find the employees at the garage booth who at least tried to help. EDIT: The cause of all the madness was because the counter employee failed to show up for work that evening. The garage booth employee had a hard time explaining the contingency action was to redirect all reservation handling to the Dollar Rental Counter who had agreed to proxy for Hertz that night. I went to Hertz rental after booking and paying for the car. Once I got there I seen 3 black people working one flanged in a wheelchair sitting down he was not handicapped he was a worker. The other two were behind the counter one at one end the other at the end I needed. I picked this place because they advertised that they take credit card and debit card. I was asked for ID card and credit card. Gave the black man both. He then said he couldn't take my card so I gave him my debit as advertised on the internet and through their voicemail on the phone it says they take both debit and credit. He clearly role me they won't take it. I am a white female I asked him was it because I'm white that he won't give me the car I already paid for he smiled. So because I am white I was refused the car I paid for. So they have false advertisement and they are discriminating against white people. read more

Quick to get in and out, easy to find your car in the numbered spots. However, I wish they had slightly more "deluxe" economy cars. The Kias and Hyundais usually have cruise control whereas Toyotas and Nissans do not. When I asked if there were any other economy cars available, there weren't. Bummer. I am not to be trusted on an interstate without cruise control...Yes, I did get pulled over. No, my awesome self didn't get a ticket. :) I can be very apologetic. I rented in April and there was no ice scraper that I found. This was an issue as I drove into northern PA, and there was snow and frost. Do they just take them out after March 1 or what? read more

Worst experience I've ever had. And I'm a HUGE Hertz Gold Member advocate. My husband and I always use Hertz and have for 20+ years- never again. I flew in to Indianapolis Airport and went straight to my car at 12:20 am and tried to leave the garage. There was nobody there. Not one employee around. Their website says they are open until 1:00 am. I parked my car and walked back in to the airport, and there's nobody at the counter. Every other car rental company has someone on staff. Except Hertz... I called airport security to see if I could get out. Nope. So I then stood in line for hours and ended up not being able to get another car. My sister, who I was visiting, had to drive an hour at 2 am to come get me. What frustrates me the most, is being told by airport security, and several other rental companies.. that THIS IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM! I went online to double check the hours.. there are way too many reviews of people being stuck. Either change the hours on your website or fix the employee issue at this location. We had a great experience with the Hertz rent-a-car in Indianapolis. I loved that we didn't have to wait in any lines. As a Hertz Gold member, I just walked to the parking lot, looked on the status board and saw what parking spot number had my car. Got in the car and drove to the exit. Showed my driver license to the Hertz attendant, he scanned a bar code on the dash, and vroom! We were on the road. I wish I could use Hertz for business travel, but my business makes us take the cheapest rental car available which usually means long lines and boring paperwork to fill out. The car was a practically brand new Nissan Rogue. It was very clean and very nice. I enjoyed driving it all over the midwest doing college visits with my son. Checking our car in at Hertz was smooth and quick. Friendly service. Quick check in. No complaints. I would totally go back to Hertz at IND again if given the opportunity. read more

Charged $100 for not filling up the tank (9.99 a gallon). Egregious obviously. That's really not the worst of it though. The employee said to my 65 year old mother, "Well, I can either charge you for the gas or I can slap you in the face." I rented a Jeep from here over Christmas week. We drove only on public roads which had snow melting off. We returned the Jeep 4 days later without a problem. Then the receipt came with a $150 charge to wash the Jeep! No one said anything about the Jeep needing to be washed before returning it or I would've taken it to a car wash. I am a gold club member with Hertz. I had a recent experience at thier Indianapolis Airport location that was a less than desired experience. This was the second time when traveling into Indianapolis that Hertz did not meet a customer service level that I thought a common customer would expect, let alone a Gold Club Member. I flew back into Indianapolis a few weeks later and stopped at thier counter to discuss my previous transaction and was told they couldn't access the rental records. After that encounter to try to reconcile the issue, I tried for four days off and on to try to get a customer service person on the phone to be met with holding for long periods of time. When finally connected to a live person, the person was polite, but could not resolve issue at thier paygrade, and could not reach someone that could. I dont regret my choice of choosing a different car rental company rather than Hertz my last trip into INDY, that company's preferred vendor association with my airline gave me a cheaper price on a better car than Hertz offered with me attempting to book on thier website as a Gold Member. I dont like to sound like a KAREN, but I seriously doubt if I can find a reason to do business with Hertz again. They were my go to for over 5 years. read more

I could say lots of things about how they tried to lie and steal from me, or the attitude I received when I noticed it as I was walking to get my car, but I won't. I will say, double check what you're signing. Sometimes they don't ask the questions and just mark you down as a yes anyway. Also check your CC, especially if you prepaid thru a service like Expedia. Also don't expect them to help in any way. The attitude I received and the words I was expressly told were that it was my problem to deal with. And dealing with them during the Christmas season as I was going home to put my father in the ground definitely made it my problem. But I made it theirs, too I will never use Hertz again. read more

We rented two compact cars through the FBO at the airfield. Delivery was smooth and efficient upon arrival even at 1230 AM. Cars worked as advertised and receipts were delivered promptly on return. I would highly recommend Hertz to anyone. read more

The insurance option was incredibly expensive compared to other rentals we've done in other cities...more than the cost of the actual rental so I didn't do insurance from them like I normally would.
