As an Avis preferred member I was surprised when I arrived at the Indianapolis airport and my rental wasn't in the numbered slot via my confirmation email. After returning to the Service window I was offered another car. I noticed immediately the car had front fender damage and scratches on the exterior- which I reported. Once I entered the car I couldn't believe the terrible odor! All windows down to Bloomington....It smelled of vomit and a terrible cologne!- I also called and reported. I believe they turned this car without checking/cleaning the interior or exterior. This fiasco caused Avis to put two separate pending charges on my debit card ( 1 for smelly car and 1 for the car that wasn't there). The funds were returned (for missing car) but funds weren't available on my debit card for 4 days- just FYI. No discounts or comps offered, just full price for a smelly wrecked rental.

However, the car I received was crap…read more First of all, after having my reservation before my trip began in NC, I was given the choice of a mini van or wait for my medium size SUV. I waited. The car was absolutely filthy inside. It had been vacuumed but that was pretty much it. The door cards on both front doors were disgustingly dirty and ALL windows, inside and out, were so bad I had to wash them to be able to see to drive! In addition, the car had previously been smoked in (probably several times) but some sort of spray had been used right before the car was brought to me. The door was so strong it made me nauseous. I had to keep windows open and purchased a Renuzit Air Freshener to place inside the vehicle. I called Customer Service to report the car had been smoked in and that as a non-smoker I wanted a note made in my rental contract that I WAS NOT the smoker! I understood from the gentleman I spoke with I would be given a break on the rental cost BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN! All around, I will not trust renting through this Enterprise location ever again!!

But what I experienced was completely unacceptable…read more I had my breathing machine locked in my rental car--something I rely on to breathe and function--and there was absolutely no one available to help me access it. I was essentially left without a medically necessary device because your company had no system in place for emergencies. It is beyond unreasonable to expect someone to wait until 8:00 in the morning to access something they need to survive. This isn't about convenience--this is about basic human safety. I cannot understand why security does not have access to a key or any way to open the lockbox in a situation like this. That is a serious failure on your part. When a company deals with customers traveling at all hours, there should always be an emergency solution in place. While I will acknowledge that the staff I interacted with when I picked up my rental were friendly, that does not make up for the fact that I was left without access to something I need to breathe. Because of this, I would not recommend this company to anyone. It is alarming that every other rental company in the terminal had someone available to assist, yet your company did not. No customer should ever be put in a position where their health is at risk due to a lack of basic support. Now before anyone says well you left it. Yes I did and like my first paragraph says people make mistakes.

The Avis rental pick up area in IND airport is adjacent to the main building. It's about 5 minutes…read morewalk from the gate to the Avis counter. I had reserved my car few months earlier. Just before arriving at the airport, got my confirmation that the car was ready for pick up. After landing, I skipped the Avis counter in the airport and walked straight to the car. The counter looked slick though. There were few customers and an associate helping them out. In the pick up area, all the spots were marked properly. I found my car in the designated spot. It was a new VW Atlas with 10K mileage. The car had fully cleaned exterior and interior. But it showed the oil change due warning. We had the car for 4 days. We drove around a lot, taking it all the way to Louisville, KY and back to Indianapolis. We had no issues with the car. All the functionality worked fine in the car. Upon bringing the car back for return, an associate processed the drop off as soon as I parked. That was the fastest return processing I ever had. Overall it was another excellent rental experience with Avis.

The customer service people that you are transferred to do not tell you the truth. They just make up things to get you off the phone. I left my air tag on the rental car keys. I was trying to contact the rental location to see if they would take the air tag off so I could pick it up. The location on the tag showed the airport. Then the air tag moved to Carmel last night. This morning it was back at the airport. I made arrangements to go to the airport to see if I could retrieve it. An hour later when I was on the way to pick up the tag the location moved. So we followed the directions to find where it was. We arrived at the location and the rental car was not there but the air tag still showed it was at the location which was an apartment complex. If Avis would have been available to talk to I would not be out $40 for the air tag. I took a snapshot of the locations so maybe they can figure out who has the tag if they are employed and Avis. Will not be using this company again. I feel like I should be reimbursed for the tag because I contacted them within an hour of the car return and it was still at the airport. If they had answered the phone I would've have had this problem.

Crazy that there are a lot of really low scores. Maybe I was just really lucky. The person was very helpful and friendly at the desk. I pre-purchased when booking, but the person went through the usual song and dance (offering insurance, how I want to return the gas tank, etc.). Standard stuff really. They didn't have the level of car I booked so they upgraded me. Once the paperwork was done they instructed me to head out to the stall and get in the car. Just a really streamlined and easy experience. The vehicle was nice and I was excited to get on the road. The exiting process was standard and easy as well. This airport had easy to follow signs on the return. I cleaned up what I could and got my stuff and left the car along with the keys in the return area. Smooth sailing!

the guys at the front counter are straight scammers. they tried to charge me $631 dollars in…read moreinsurance for a week, they told me to bring the car back on empty and they'd fill it up. The only reason i give this 3 star is because management fixed the problem quick and easy. i only paid like $230 for collision and deposit. if i were you i WOULD NOT go to front counter, go straight to the managers at the HERTZ office outside. The cars are nice and well kept however.
