We hired Budget Construction to upgrade and refresh our master bathroom. We purchased the vanity, toilet, lighting, flooring, paint and hardware; they installed everything. Dimitar and his assistant did a wonderful job, completing everything in 5 days. Not only that, but they were friendly, professional, and very respectful of our property. We also liked that Budget's pricing was very fair, coming in lower than a competitor yet providing us quality and reliable workers. Let's face it: remodeling and construction work is only as good as the person doing the job. Pricing and salesmanship add to the overall experience. Michael, as always, was easy to work with and his pricing was competitive. My bathroom remodel experience was very good, it went smoothly and finished quickly. Budget Construction had done previous work for me on my kitchen, and while that experience left a little to be desired (overall good work, just some minor quibbles), this recent work went extremely well. It helps to have a skilled craftsman doing the work, which I was very fortunate to have in Dimitar. He was simply fantastic! He was great to work with, was respectful, punctual, and efficient. He worked quickly, was focused, organized, and careful. He communicated well and I always felt he had my best interests at heart. He's an excellent craftsman (and a really nice, easy-going guy), and it was very clear he took great pride in his work. I'm very detailed-oriented, so I'm always going to see little things that drive me crazy that others will never notice. Dimitar's work here was quite excellent. My remodeled bathroom is beautiful. Budget Construction restored my foyer after a pipe burst. The room had been gutted so dry wall, flooring, and a closet with sliding doors had to be replaced. Dimitar did all the work alone and he was excellent finishing in 3 days. Everything is so beautiful and he matched the paint I wanted and did a great job on the vinyl floor and base boards. these people don't have the best communication. between taking over two weeks to coordinate just a quote then another two weeks to follows up asking for the actual quote. fina after following up they then make up a number of 18k for my tiny project. I don't think this guy know what project he was quoting but the lack of organization and communication is enough to not move forward. read more

I bought a new home with a dated kitchen and decided a full gut of the kitchen, removal of walls, and personalization were needed. Overall, I love the finished product! Chris, as team/project lead, listened carefully as I described what I wanted and communicated updates. He made excellent suggestions to fabricate pieces of my quartz for the back of my stove, shorter lighting for functionality, and the under mount lights... better than I could've imagined. Chris and Thomas also did a great job, checking in, asking about progress, etc. Both were kind and professional. Michael was helpful as a sales person. Venus, the office manager (I think), was helpful in finding/getting in touch with members of the team when i couldn't and payments. For those considering Budget Construction, do your research, know most of what you're looking for, be direct, communicate, and if you really want something, be firm. I agree with some parts of the negative reviewers comments about the quote/sales process and think there is opportunity for improvement; my hope is that Don and team review and consider (this is why I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars). That said, the work done by the team on my kitchen was absolutely beautiful, the team was VERY flexible with my busy schedule, attention to detail, questions (lots), followed up on requests, and gave excellent suggestions for alternate options. read more

I bought a condo in downtown Chicago and updated the whole thing. Budget was so responsive and detail oriented. They update the bathroom, gutted and updated the kitchen, put in a new divider, and updated the walk in closets. In the middle of the project, the floors needed to be redone because of a flood in the building (no fault of the construction) and Budget was so helpful and patient in making sure the repairs were done quickly and I received so many compliments on my first home. I had the displeasure of dealing with an idiot named Michael. I'm surprised he thinks his antics work in this day and age but he picked the wrong person. I was in need of redoing a very small galley kitchen and this guy came in, didn't measure anything and was basically sizing me up as how much he could get away with charging me. He quoted me 22 to 25 thousand dollars, three times more than other quotes I was receiving. I asked to see samples of the cabinets he would be using and counter tops and was told if I signed up with him that day he would bring me back a sample. I'm surprised I didn't laugh in his face. Grow up Michael and start treating women with respect and dignity and stop trying to rip people off!!! If I could I would have given him zero stars. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY AND THIS COMPANY!!!! read more

Budget Construction was an almost entirely terrible experience. The initial meeting went well, and we felt good about working with Michael and his team, but it turned out that we were being told whatever we wanted to hear in order to get the sale. Once we signed the contract, not a single call we made to Michael or his team was returned (the only person willing to respond to a phone call was Don). We never got an email to contact them, and there was never an explanation as to why we were consistently ignored. After two weeks, and another walk through with the carpenter on a Friday, we were told we'd be told the starting date the following Monday. Nobody called on Monday, and when we called, we were, once again, ignored. Two days later, we got a call from Don saying the project would cost 50% more than what we agreed to in the signed contract and that they couldn't start for three weeks. There was no coherent explanation as to why it was 50% more expensive, or why the start date had moved so significantly, just that the carpenter saw things that made it more expensive. The entire experience with this group was disorganized, confusing, frustrating, and finally extremely disappointing. I would highly recommend going elsewhere for your contractor needs. Also, if you call them and ask about these reviews, they will lie to you and say they are not legitimate. Do not believe them. I did and now we're 21 days later and we've gotten nowhere on our project. read more

When he quoted the price to renew the basement and saw that I wanted some partial work. He acted all flirty with me hugging me like we were old time friends which we are not. Then when he knew he was over charging me and retracting his compliments how beautiful I was it got rude. Ok I believe this is a quote not a dating game so he further insulted me when I said I will think about it. He said I am sure with the way you look i am sure you will get what you want, put it out in the universe. Since when did the cosmic dollar entail the superficial comment. All he wanted was to finance, never wrote anythink down and gave me a verbal guote of 100, 000. 5 other contractors have me a Written Estimate which where within 70 to 80.000 range. They were initially friendly and helpful and promise you to complete everything. An 8 week job took over 3 months. They miscalculated cabinet pricing which forced me to look for them myself. Quality is OK. Not great. Had to ask them to redo some things more than 3 times even when I provided pictures. The last few days when the last check was meant to be paid, work was not completed and they pressured me to pay. Take their promises with a pinch of salt, be on top of things, use email etc. And remember "Budget" is in their name. read more

They replaced my roof and doors. I paid top Dollar, close to $20,000 and the work was terrible. They used sub-par materials. They did not include the soffits and fascia. The doors were cheap and the locks came off. The owner seems like a nice guy but he subcontracts to people that do not care about quality. They attempted to place a dish over my kitchen vent versus a proper cover. It was an absolute nightmare. Please, stay away! read more

My bathroom remodeling project was assigned to the subcontractor from Hell. He came on the scene complaining angrily that he was ripped off, because the Budget Construction salesman told him he didn't have to purchase any supplies, but the contract paperwork showed there were some. His mission was to reduce and hurry the work and to minimize supply purchases. There were continuous careless workmanship mistakes which had to be corrected, such as installing a vent cover vertically over a horizontal opening, one electrical outlet to safety and contract specifications and the other one not, or the threshold in a position which prevented the door from closing. Some mistakes couldn't be corrected. For example, a lot of the tub finish was removed at the bottom of the tub, and all of it was removed in a seven by twelve inch area above the tub drain. The worst was the plumbing. About a week after installation, no-one at the site, the toilet tank fell against the wall, leaking water onto the floor and revealing that the toilet was not installed perpendicular to the wall. The bathtub spigot isn't flush with the tub wall, sticks out 3/8 inch from the wall on one side, due to a crooked incoming pipe. A leaky joint where the PVC below meets the metal tub drain kit was deemed unfixable by the subcontractor. Turns out the water was coming from all the metal joints above it, mainly because not enough threading tape was used when assembling the kit. No sealant was used under the tub drain flange. The final delay for project completion was waiting for delivery of missing water mixer parts. The workers were unavailable for two days after the start of the project and left the site with a day's work not done yet. A few off and on, short duration return visits were attempted to complete the project. The project's expected duration was a week or so. The actual duration was two months. No sealing or caulking was done until I provided the requisite supplies during the return visits. The workers were more careless than before. For example, the caulk between the inset window and the shelf in the shower area had a lot of leaky gaps on the window side where the caulk didn't adhere. After correcting this problem, the leaky gaps were on the other, shelf side the of caulk instead. The subcontractor refused to use the material provided for the inset window shelf. He said it was the wrong size and couldn't be cut. He wanted to use the previous shelf instead. When I provided the step by step instructions which I got by calling the company, he exploded into a shouting rage at me. I had insulted his materials knowhow and site authority. With Budget Construction's help, he agreed to use the material provided but at the last minute he decided to send the material to the company to be cut, thereby threatening a project delay of four to six weeks which the company requires for its orders. The next day, I tried to convince the lead workman that the material could be cut. He told me not to worry and showed me a new masonry blade. All that, just to avoid the purchase of a tool part! More thousands of dollars went to Budget Construction than competitive offers for the job. The Budget Construction attitude toward my troubles was mostly indifferent and mercenary. The salesman came to collect the balance for the job before the customer inspection and sign off part of the contract. When I complained about known deficiencies, he pressured me to pay minus an amount to be accounted for later. At the end, I wanted to fix something that technically was not an installation defect. This last task cost me $800 for less than two hours of skilled work. They just wanted to get me out the door. read more

It was a wonderful experience with Budget Construction company from the sales associate to the workers. My Dad was very pleased with the remodeling of his bathroom to make it handicapped accessible. I was pleased with the workers whom had a lot of patience and understanding with my Dad. We were given a 10 business day window for completion but the job was done in 8 business days. The worker explained everything that he will be doing step by step and provided samples of wall tiles and flooring tiles and paint to choose from. I appreciate how they cleaned up behind themselves and when the job was completed. I will be looking to acquiring more work to be done from Budget Construction company. read more
