After my car got sick and I couldn't heal her in time, you enabled me to get home in time for Thanksgiving. Thanks. You introduced me to the Hyndai Elantra which got me from Chicago to Louisville on one tank of gas, with 1/6 of a tank to spare. I'm impressed! And, when I filled the car back up, it only cost me $24!! These are all winning ingredients. You might be surprised that you're only at 3 stars. Why? I'll tell you. Minus one star for the obnoxious gentleman who hung up on me three times as I was en route to the ticket counter. I was running late for my pick up time and wanted to be courteous. He welcomed my courtesy with bad attitude. Had I not been a'feared of raising up some bad road juju, I would have cussed him out in person. As it was, I just rolled my eyes, sighed and gave a champion side-eye. It was monumental. Minus another star for the car being sorta dirty. I was afraid to have my head touch the head rest. As it is, my head now itches. I am not pleased about this. The back seat was visibly soiled. I nearly wept for my pretty luggage to have to touch it. I made sure that all this was noted before I got on the road. Clean your seats, Budget! Minus a final star for your pitiful shuttle driver. Not only did he make me wait A HALF HOUR to get picked up this morning, but he drove past me, talked about me as 'that guy', refused to pick up my luggage and ignored me to chat with non-customers. When the O'Hare porter told him about himself, he shrugged. The ride to the ticket counter was ~pleasant~. Ack! That's three demerits! Oh well. I'll leave you at a 3 star. Like I said, you got me home for Thanksgiving and didn't charge me astronomical prices. I'm feeling generous - must be the holidays... read more

Zero stars is the real facts Past midnight, My Hot Spot was stolen by Budget employee. Budget Ohara ignored me. If you need a rental, don't "Budget" car rental, your things will become stolen without any regards whatsoever. In fact, Budget are ignoring me now. That shows you how bad Budget is. My passion and heart was stolen as well. To millions of Yelp Audience: I will tell you here if Budget manager respond to me with a new hot spot. We rented a car online from Budget for a weekend trip and picked it up at O'Hare airport in Chicago. The desk clerk went through all the extras with us and confirmed we would not be charged a gas fee if we returned it full. He even said we need to fill up with 5 miles of the airport, which we did. He also said my boyfriend/travel companion could be added at no charge. I had signed online and was never given a hard copy. There was no one to talk to in the garage where the car was kept, and we found the gas tank at 3/4 full, plus it was dirty and the no smoking vehicle had smoke smell and a lighter left behind. This morning (we returned yesterday) both of these extra charges were included in the $552.48 pending charge to my bank, plus the hold they said would not appear on my account. The person in customer service told me I should have read the contract and not taken the desk clerk's word for it. She also said the hold would be removed in 3-4 days and then they would charge me the $405 actual fee. I was quoted $283 at the desk at O'Hare. I was lied to, fraudulent charges were added, and customer service may as well not exist. Anxious to see what happens with the hold money in 3-4 days. If nothing good, I will be talking with my bank again about fraud. read more

Look at all the reviews, these all echo the same thing: they add the "fuel service" add on without telling you when you pick up the car. Even online reservations. I caught it when reviewing the agreement. They would not remove it. I needed to double back and have the agent remove it, after arguing back and forth they did. Totally dishonest, I never experienced this in the many years I've rented through Budget/AVIS. Look at the reviews - the fact that this has been going on for so long means they do not plan to make any changes. I suspect the management is okay with this. might even be pushing it on the agents. Everything else went off without a problem. Car had damage so make sure you note all the damage before leaving the parking lot. Return process was good as it was well staffed during the time. That's all the positive I have to say. Very bizarre experience, for such a routine part of traveling. Look at the reviews, it's this location, and it's been going on for years. I doubt it will change anytime soon. Very disappointing. read more

I've had the worst experience with my last reservation. No attendant on duty at ORD airport at 0545 on May 2nd with a sign that said to leave the car in the rental garage with the key inside. I do just that. Then I get several phone calls saying my car is overdue and I need to return it when I already did. Horrible service. Case number 33554785. I finally get a text on May 14! Saying Budget finally found the car. I haven't gotten a bill via email or mail yet, but I have now a charge of $1,111 on my card for all the days budget lost the car I returned after a 16 hour rental. Worst car rental experience of my life. And now when I try to call budget, I cannot get a live person unless it is to make a new reservation. WORST SERVICE EVER. Do not recommend it. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible place of business. After landing at the airport at 1 am, I had to wait over an hour in the budget line because of there only being ONE worker. Absolutely ridiculous and very frustrating. Who wants to land in the middle of the night and have to wait over an hour for a damn rental car. Why tf is there only one person working handling both Avis and budget. Horrible place, never rent a car from here EVER read more

Zero stars. I waited in line for an hour, I did not budget the time for that one. I had already checked in and put in all my card information prior to my flight. So when I lost my credit card, I thought nbd I already checked in. Wrong. They wanted to scan my card, I told them it was lost and my husband could give another card over the phone they said no. What a waste of my time. We live in 2022, why are you going to have me check in online, put in my info and then wait for over an hour to just give you all my info again. What a Broken system. I highly recommend budget at O'Hare. There are two ladies by the name of Linda, and sherrie and they're both amazing individuals. They are attentive, patient, and most of all hard workers. I met them both on trips traveling to Chicago, & their personality seemed to amaze me both times! read more

Good luck if you need any type of customer service. An employee at a rental counter threatened and me said "Not my problem take it up with Budget!" - keep in my mind this was a Budget employee at a Budget car rental desk - telling me to take it up Budget. All of their telephone customer service is off shore and speaks broken English. If they can't figure something out they transfer you to another person or simply hang up on you. The wait time to talk to anyone is generally 30-60 minutes. They take absolutely zero notes - so each new person you speak to you will have to start over. I needed a tow from road side assistance. I had to request it four times in a row before it was actually put into the system. Whatever Budget / Avis used to be it is no more. This company is now a complete scam and has no regard for the customer whatsoever. read more

PLEASE DO NOT RENT HERE PLEASE! CHARGED $450 a month after returning the car!!! SAID I WAS SMOKING IN THE CAR. I am a devoted Christian and I do not drink or smoke, so I knew it was impossible and I was being scammed! I am not one to usually leave a review, however the experience was terrible, I booked and paid for the car through Orbits I like this method because it's a third party that has all my info and can act as a middle man in case of dispute. I paid for the car in advance, when I get there they ask to put another $250 hold on my card which was strange because I've never had to do that renting a car in the past. They said it was a deposit although I purchased the insurance, they also want to do a hold on prepay gas. I still said not a problem I'll return the tank full. I get there and there are barely any cars left I was allowed to take a truck due to lack of inventory. I return the truck prior to scheduled drop off time. I had an agent inspect the gas level and walk around the car with me to ensure there was no damage. He signed off that the car was the same and sent me my confirmation email right away. Two days later I get the $250 deposit taken off. Then one month later which was today! I get an alert from my bank that a transaction was pushed through for $450. I call and they said it was reported that the car had heavy smoke smell after I returned it although the truck had been rented 4 more times since I had it!!! I couldn't believe it! I almost went crazy especially getting the run around from customer service. By no means am I rich and $450 dollars being taken out my account with no prior correspondence was insane. I did not get a call, email, or letter saying I would be billed. Eventually I reach a nice young lady who was a manager on the customer service line and explained to her in tears what was going on. She did her research and said that something did not add up, if there was smoke smell I should have been charged right away and they would not have credit back the security deposit. I was told the truck was rented 4 more times since I had it. I told her I seen reviews with other people having this same issue being charged and they don't smoke. She investigated and said this same charge keeps happening at this location and it is very strange they would input that I smoked in car and charge over one month since inretuned the car. They are doing an investigation into this, and I already alerted my bank not to post the transaction! If they don't return my money I will be seeking legal action. Simple: Budget@ORD deserves to be barred from doing business, and must compensate they loyal customers they harass (like us)! Detailed: We booked a Toyota Camry (with Budget thru Costco) for pickup @ORD early am on Fri-May 26. We landed @ORD after a red eye Flt from SFO, and went to the Budget rentsl office. While I waited with my minor son (who was half asleep) and our bags, my spouse stood in line where he was promoted to expedite the rental process by providing his personal info @ a QR code and then directed to pickup the car @ 'Fastbreak' on upper level. My spouse the. went to Fastbreak while I waited with our son (still asleep) and bags. But Budget's Fastbreak staff (Catia - unsure of spelling as she was defensive) refused to give him the car claiming it was booked in my name thru Costco, even though the rental contract allows both of us to drive the car as spouses! When my spouse explained how Budget's own QR code/app had accepted his personal info and directed him to pick up the car, Budget's staff rudely said they didn't know anything about any QR Code/app and I needed to pickup the car. So my spouse waited while my half asleep son and I walked to the upper l level with all our bags. Even then, Budget staff there was rude to me before giving a car with the assurance that it was in good condition. After 3 of us walked to the car and loaded our luggage in the trunk, we saw its rear bumper had a large dent and was barely clinging to the car (we have a pic!). We tried getting help outside but no one responded, so my spouse walked back all the way to the rental counter to complain but the Budget staff claimed they didn't know anything about condition of cars they were renting out and refused talk to him about a replacement car until I come back to do so! So I walked back all the way with our exhausted son and our bags. Budget's rude staff finally gave us an older/inferior car but because they refused to even speak to my spouse, they failed to collect keys for the 1st/damaged car. When we protested their unprofessional behavior, the Budget staff ganged up on us with another customer who was using our situation to indulge in grandstanding ! This ordeal delayed us by ~2hrs and caused us undue stress after a redeye! Plus Budget's QR/app collected/misused our personal info for no reason! We still did the right thing by leaving keys of 1st/damaged car in the glove box when we returned our rented car @ORD! To our utter surprise, when we received the final receipt for this rental from Budget, we learnt they have charged us above the amount that we signed off on at the time of rental without any explanation, even though we returned the car with a full gas tank and without any damage! This additional charge is daylight robbery adds insult to our injury described above! I've also reached out to Budget's President on LinkedIn but haven't even received a response let alone resolution. Clearly Budget employees and their leadership don't care about customer experience or satisfaction, which is disgusting! As a result we've moved all our upcoming car rental bookings from Budget to their competitors! If Budget values my business, they need to asap address our horrific experience above by: 1/ refunding the excess charge; 2/ compensating us for the ill treatment and delay caused by their employees, and 3/ providing written explanation for the collection and misuse of my spouse's personal information and deleting the same! read more

This place is a cluster. Lines for everything, understaffed with nice people. Got a Jeep in MKE, smelled like smoke, had a whining sound in engine, (oh, and it was dirty). Went to exchange, as was told that I needed to put in a report, then waited in another line. Lost two hours of my day and realized why I had been a loyal National car rental customer. I wanted to just cancel my reservation, then told me I would have a $300 drop fee! Oh, it's not over... I said fine, give me another one and it wasn't in the space he told me to go to... Good luck with them. NEVER EVER AGAIN! WOW! read more

I can't really comment on crowds or lines, or how they handle a heap of people all at once, because it's crickets-ville when you arrive nigh upon midnight. In my world, I'll pretty much rent from anyone with price being the main driver. And Budget often (but far from always) has the cheapest price, so I've rented from them a bunch. This was my first ORD ordeal, and may not be my last. Here's the thing about Budget--they seem to love those nickels and dimes. I mean, that's where the money is made in car rentals: pre-pay a full tank of gas, or get the additional insurance coverage, or rent a toll pass, or a GPS, or upgrade that car.... this list of extra money goes on and on. I'm not railing on the system, but I do notice that Budget gives me a harder sell on this stuff than I find elsewhere. And speaking of "upgrades," I booked a small car last time, and when I got to the counter, the nice lady suggested I "upgrade" to an SUV for only like $12/day more. I politely declined, and then when I went out to get my car, it was that very same SUV she had suggested (Jeep Grand Cherokee) that they gave at my original price. I mean, you can't blame a Budget girl for trying to sell the upgrade first before giving it away, but at the end of it all, I got a car that was bigger than what I wanted, and used more fuel than I would have like to spend. Typically this happens when they're low on cars, and it's mildly annoying. It does, however fill your need of getting from A ----- B. Other than that, know that you're just a short shuttle ride away to the Budget place. Getting your car is pretty simple, although the signage in the lot could be better. Don't forget to inspect your car and say something to the gate paperwork checker if there are scratches and dings so you don't get charged. Returning the car is the same--give yourself some time, know that the signage isn't great, and right now (July 2015) there is some construction nearby that could delay you. Overall, if the price is right, pull that trigger and just deal with the nuances of Budget at ORD. read more

Never had any issues with this Budget when we go "home" to visit family that still lives in Chicago. My last visit I ended up renting from Budget after finding out I was on the DNR list at Hertz (for a chargeback because of the corrupt Thrifty car rental at ORD). While Thrifty was claiming not to have cars and an hour+ wait, I was able to prebook through my Budget app and get a decent rate for same day, within an hour rental. I was able to actually walk up to the Fastbreak counter early with no pressure for anything extra and had a car within 10 minutes. Return was easy and deposit was released immediately. So a month later after the rental I received a letter that there was a smoke smell on the car and I was going to be charged $450. I'll never use Budget again... we made a reservation to pick up a car at Chicago O'Hare at 7pm. We spend 30 minutes waiting in the wrong line because the signage is super misleading (as are the directions in their confirmation emails) and we ended up in the membership line upstairs. After being told that they could not help us, we waited for two and a half hours in the line downstairs to pick up the car. Budget was the only rental company with a line and people were visibily upset. Someone asked for a manager, and eventually a man came down... but all he did was hug each female worker individually and then disappeared into a back office and was not seen again. I was also charged $126 dollars in taxes at the end of my trip which seems like it would have been a known cost when advertising the amount of my reservation. I would have gone with another company if I knew I was going to have to pay that after the fact - it negated any savings I thought I was going to net over picking somewhere like Hertz where there was no line and more helpful service. It also might be worth looking into why each customer had something come up with their reservation that required the desk staff to walk over to Avis and ask their representative for help. It was really maddening to watch transpire over the nearly three hours we were standing there. There was a shift change at 9pm and the person taking over rearranged the items on her desk and her coffee for 10 minutes before helping anyone and was clearly on her cell phone. read more

Currently have a rental from Franklin Park and they gave us a car WITH NO OIL. Drove to Wisconsin and our car started to shut down in the middle of a busy intersection. DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET!!!!- My wife and I recently visited Chicago, and I ended up renting from Budget at O'Hare airport because Hertz and National had no cars available on the weekend of 9/17/21. Sad when the only recourse I have left for a terrible experience is to write a Yelp review. I was given a car with a leaking tire, no fluids, and was past service. When I at least noticed the front left tire's PSI was 16 before leaving the rental site, I asked them to fill and check it, which they already should have done before pick up. They said they did, and I was given the OK to go. I wasn't. Flat tire the next morning. So we spent every morning filling the tire with air. Could I have taken it in or called for service? Sure. Should I have to go out of my way for something which should have been a given when paying 700 dollars for a week long rental? Not a chance. And if I did call for roadside, imagine how a company like this would have handled my situation. These people don't even do their basic jobs. Which is a reflection on management. Which is a reflection on the company. I called and told them I was dissatisfied with the service and after careful consideration and being placed on hold for 5 minutes, their recourse was to tell me they had generously created an online PROFILE for me and also would be offering me a 20 dollar off code for my next rental! When I wasn't happy with that, she started lecturing me about how I handled the situation. Bye Budget, bye Avis. Someone else is probably driving around Chicago wondering what's wrong with their front tire, or waiting for Budget roadside assistance, or in some gas station waiting room for the past 2 hours. Because even though I reported it right away, my confidence that they did something is 0. read more

Absolute worst rental experience of my life. I got in at 11:30pm, got on the bus to the off site rental car office at 11:45, then waited in line for an hour to get the car. I was out of the airport at 1:00pm. First, they wouldn't give me my corporate rate. OK, that could be my fault for not making that reservation. I ended up getting sold on extra insurance. Second, they give me a car that doesn't even have a full tank. Then, when I get back they tried to charge me for gas, even though I filled the tank to full. And also had the nerve to request a receipt. LOOK AT THE FUCKING GAUGE. I even called a car dealer to see if they knew why the ignition would not recognize the key. I was nearly late for my outgoing flight. I didn't have to wait long in line and the woman at the counter was pleasant. The reason I'm giving 1 star is because I feel like they scammed me. Not once did she ever mention anything about an upgrade or any additional charges. I took the cheapest rate when I booked online and when she said i have a Subaru car for you I didn't question it. She had me click "yes" on a couple screens, asked me if I needed a child seat, blah blah blah... all the standard questions... and I was on my way. However, I checked my account today and they charged me an additional $84.69 for an "upgrade". Since when is a SUBARU an upgrade?! I was torn between a 2 and 3 star review, but as I wrote this I leaned more towards a 2. The good: The car was fine, and the people at the return were friendly and fast. The bad: This girl that checked me in when I picked up my car could not have made it seem like getting my car could have possibly been any larger of an inconvenience to her day. She was rude, and condescending. There was no line, so it wasn't like she had been slammed.
