My husband and I came into down via Sacramento International Airport a couple of days ago. When we were down there, the first car that we tried was full of cigarette smoke, being that I have such an asthmatic/allergy to cigarette smoke, I asked to be switched. The gentleman there was kind and gave us a small Subaru( but said it was mid-size) and it was ok. Got us to point A to point B. We could feel every bump in the road and the seats were super hard. But, we were grateful that God gave us a car to help us get from point A to point B. Then this morning, it was raining; so we started to use our windshield wiper blades, and realized that one of them didn't work. Seeing out of the windows while it is raining, would be a definite plus. So we stopped in at this budget here; and a gentleman named Mike, helped us out and got us a RAV4. Switched us out quickly which we were thankful for. Now we had to fill the other tank up, and we did as we promised. So now we have a comfier vehicle, one that sits up higher; and we don't have a vehicle that we can feel every single bump in the road. So next time you are at this Avis/Budget place, ask for Mike. An upgrade is only an "upgrade" when it has perceived value to the customer. I reserved a vehicle to be picked up on 9/09 and returned on 9/15/18 and when I arrived at my scheduled time to pick up said vehicle I was told, "Sorry, we only have this left, take it or leave it." Well I had reserved a full-size car what I got stuck with was a mini-van and I was told it was an upgrade. Nope, sorry, not sorry, I don't need a buttload of seats . . . but got stuck with it b/c I was told, "Take it or leave it!" I figured, crap, I can deal with it for a few days as I was on my way out of town. Well, I returned into town on 9/12/18 and began trying to call the local office around 2 p.m. to trade this sucker in as I had paid for a full-size car thru 9/15/18. No one would answer the phone at the local office and I kept getting forwarded to the national customer service line. I did speak to someone at the national office and was told try calling the local office again. WTF? Okay, still no one answering - and don't even try to do anything at an airport rental location unless you have some sort of plane ticket confirming that you actually traveled - WTF x 2 !!?? So after various unsuccessful tries at contacting someone from local office again that I rented it from I tried on-line chat with Budget national office, and they told me to call the 800# and have them deal with it...UGH!!! Well, still SSDD. Fast forward to Thursday, SOS and didn't even drive the thing, beast, monster gas-guzzler. So now it's Friday morning and was hopeful once again and called the 800# for Budget customer service and was told by Jose, "Sorry but you need to talk to the location in which you rented the vehicle from." I wanted to say, "Listed here Jose, I am unable to contact them as they're not answering the phone." Jose had suggested I drive up to the location and see about exchanging vehicles that way - double UGH!! I don't want to drive all the way up there for bupkiss, zilch, nada b/c this thing gets shit gas mileage. So I'm stuck and it sucks - I've paid for a useless rental until Saturday 9/15/18 but I'll be damned if I return it early out of mere principle. DON'T RENT FROM THEM is my advice - you'll have your car that you reserved early jacked right out from you and may not have anyone to assist you in getting another more acceptable vehicle. What a load of BS! An upgrade is only an upgrade if they're is some benefit for the renter. This is more of a punishment to me than an upgrade period. The gas mileage sucks and oh yeah, it's a fricking minivan. (No offense to the mini-van or those who own one, but if I would have wanted a minivan I would have purchased one or at least reserved a minivan. read more

Being a former Chairman and President I appreciate the service and dedication of this owner. Even without checking status of my status they went over and above service. Providing one on one service, assisting elders and just a great personality. We'll above 5 Stars without question. I am a long time renter, particularly of the Redding, CA location. I am also a community advocate, business owner and small business advocate. There was a couple that used to own/operate the Redding locations and it seems that within the past year or so ownership has changed and so has everything else. I have rented about 4 times in the last year and there is always the same man there, and he is not a nice person. I have always had good experiences online, on the phone and in person with Budget Car until this man took over at the Redding, Churn Creek location. The man who runs this location place is cold, and is not familiar with what customer service is. I have had to endure this unpleasant experience every single time I have rented from him (the newest representative of the Redding Budget) I don't recall the exact issues before but I did respond to survey requests you can look there, I just remember him being rude. This last experience however is what has made me decide to never rent a car from Budget again, this morning I went to return my one week rental, I reserved it for last Thursday evening, but called to change the reservation pickup to Friday morning instead, I called and there was no issue doing this, I thought.. Upon returning my rental today, I tried to be extra friendly hoping to avoid an unpleasant experience again, the rude man at the Redding location informs me that I was supposed to return the rental the day before on Thursday, I explained this didn't make sense because I picked it up on a Friday, a 7 day rental should be returned the following Friday. He said I should have told the representative when I called and changed the reservation to change the drop off date as well. I explained that it would be redundant to need to explain that, as I stated when I called I needed to change my 'week long rental times', why would I need to double check that he changed the return time, it should be implied. That's his job. Next, the rude man started pointing his finger at me telling me and talking in broken english that it was my responsibility to tell the operator to change the return date. Interestingly enough I wasn't alone in the office, as I usually am. There were 2 other people there to pickup & drop off their reservations and they all stated they also would never visit this location again. I am writing to let you know I will not be renting from only this location, I will be avoiding Budget all together as I have received surveys asking me about my previous experiences and I have been kind enough to clearly explain the issues I had with this same person. Those responses I took the time to fill out were useless because I still go there and he is still there running this business as if it's his own rather than a franchise with a set process and standard of business. I will be copying this letter I am sending to you by mail as well as posting it on Yelp, the BBB, Google and any other site I can find, I don't want my friends and family & neighbors having terrible experiences when they are traveling. Customer service should be a priority and this man has no taste for service. Take your surveys more seriously and eliminate problem associates & owners. read more

Charged me a $250 cleaning fee, 2 months after my rental.. thought it was a fraudulent charge.. Called them, and they said it was a "cleaning fee".. They supposedly sent me a letter about the charge 7 days before they charged my card. Never received anything from them. Asked them to email me what they supposedly sent me.. They send me a PDF attachment with 4 pictures of the "Mess".. Nothing major that I noticed.. Just some dirt on the carpet, dust on the chair and some dust on the handle.. OH and dust on the engine.. that supposedly warranted a $250 charge. Will never go back to them. Enterprise is so much better, but we really had no choice that day since enterprise had no rentals left. Seems like a scam to keep your deposit and charge you more. read more

This place is shady and practices gender inequality. The man who helped my fiancé and me, seemed friendly upfront but when the car was returned, overcharged my account, more than was quoted to us. I called Budget to try and sort out the extra hidden fees, but was told over and over that they couldn't credit back my account. Then my fiancé called and guess what? They credited back my account for their mistakes because they heard a man's voice on the phone. It's ridiculous. Anyways, if you must rent a car there, make sure they are upfront with you about how much they are really going to charge you. Ask for a clear quote and make sure they don't add on extra costs in the end. Oh, and probably being a male or having a male present with you, would probably help too. read more

while the rental process was great, the return not so much. They added all kinds of extra random fees on to the charges and to try and get back in touch with Joe was impossible and when you call corporate you are on hold forever. guess we don't have a go to car rental place after all. read more

Joey is one of the best owners I've ever experienced. He had helped us twice now with military moves. He is friendly and always looks to get you the affordable price in the right car. We're moving to a new assignment with toddlers across the country. He got us the nicest van and held it for a few days to guarantee we had a stress free rental experience and move for our family. Madhouse, bait & switch vehicles, then drain plug fell out of the engine followed by all of the oil @ 10pm surrounded by street people. On hold until cellphone went dead. USB Charging port in the car did not work. Replacement did not arrive until 3:30pm the next day after 20 phone calls back and forth 3 of which lasted well over an hour. Serious systematic flaws. Be careful and review your contract carefully. On three separate occasions, the thin middle aged male Indian counter person intentionally attempted to over-charges me, above the contracted on-line reservation price. The cars are filthy, the staff is rude, refuse to honor upgrade certificates, and the fuel gauges are less than recorded on the rental agreement. This place was too busy and they only had one person. He kept putting me on hold for 10 minutes at a time. I finally had to call the 1-800 number to find out if they had any cars. They did so I went over there, but then had to wait over 1/2 hour since he was still the only one working and there were 5 people ahead of me. When I went to return the car it was the same thing. I called just to find out how late they were open and he kept putting me on hold even thought it was a 10 second question. I had to call the 1-800 number again. If you can go to a different rental company in Redding, I would. Car was great. No problems there. read more

The car (free upgrade from intermediate to a small SUV) was a great deal, clean, and ran well. I have status with Hertz and National and am used to picking a car myself and driving straight to the gate, but this was almost as painless. Best of all, as it's not an airport location and/or in a large city the only tax listed on the receipt was the 7.25% California sales tax! Having paid over 60% in taxes and fees at times, this was very refreshing to see. read more

Renting a car (especially as a student) is always rough. There are hidden fees, tricky "deals," and of course, the desperation to get home to see your little brother's graduation despite these expenses. I had lost all hope about getting any sort of reasonable price for a one-way rental without waging war, but Joey Colombo saved me from what was soon to surely be a violent battle: after dealing with way too many different places, prices and people I finally managed to get a deal with Budget in Berkeley. But at the last minute, as I went to turn in the car in Redding, they charged me $211 for what was supposed to be a $60 price. With a smile on his face, a joking personality, and a genuine way of managing his business, I can honestly say it was the first time I had experienced someone who truly cared about helping me out, as a customer, a student, and a person. He not only got the extra fee completely retracted, but also got me money back for gas I had put in the car, among every other possible discount. Joey managed to get the price from $211 down to $46. He not only saved me $165, but even got the price down BELOW THE ORIGINAL DISCOUNTED PRICE. I highly recommend seeking him out when you need a car rental at the last minute, and especially when you're on a budget (see what I did there?) He is not only willing to help, but HAPPY to do so, with a genuine care for giving his customers the best possible experience...better than I certainly could have ever hoped. read more
