First off, I take full responsibility for not being in the know about current car rental requirements. Last time I rented a car my insurance took care of everything, and other than showing my driver's license and showing up, I had to do nothing. So I do also take full responsibility for only scanning through the never ending small print terms and conditions, and missing the part that if you don't pay with a credit card, but debit card, you have to also bring with you a utility bill that matches the address on your driver's license.
I admit, I fudged up, and I skipped right over that part. Missed it completely. I take full responsibility for that part.
With that said, even if a customer fudges up, someone who calls themselves a business owner, should still treat the customer with respect, and help them find solutions, and not treat them like a criminal.
For the record, not owning a credit card is not illegal.
I took my vehicle in for repairs, and had the repair shop drop me off at the car rental thinking my online reservation had me all set. Little did I realize I would find myself stranded because I didn't bring a utility bill with me, and because I don't own a credit card.
Left me stranded with out any ounce of dignity towards my situation.
There was absolutely no need to treat me like I'm the lowest scum on earth. Shrug your shoulders and respond to my questions with "can't you look it up on your phone?" Ummm... Yeah, on top of not having a credit card, I don't have a smart phone either. Does that now make me a criminal? Last time I checked, it's not illegal to not own a smart phone.
A real business owner would never do that to another human being, especially a potential future customer, but then these people are not business owners, they run chains that are run by corporate with rules for which they can not deviate, and they spew out rehearsed answers as if that somehow puts them in a higher class of people than the person renting the car from them. And how dare someone ask them to look up a number for a cab. I mean, that's below their pay-grade. And who uses a taxi now a days? Haven't they heard of uber?
Not even a modicum of pretending to have compassion or empathy. I have absolutely no reason to ever try to do business with this Budget/Avis. read more
