This is my favorite lounge in Paris and I would recommend it if you love techno/jazz DJ music and like Euro/Asian fusion food. On my last visit here I got to spend four and half hours here and had a truly wonderful evening. We arrived early at 6:30 and by doing so we got a great seat overlooking the staircase and the giant Buddha. Early in the evening the music is soft and very relaxing. They have a DJ and whenever I have been there the music is a perfect complement to the atmosphere the Buddha Bar provides. The highlight of my pre-dinner experience was seeing a waiter stagger by holding a Nabuchodonosor bottle of champagne for a private party in a corner of the bar. I have heard that even if you are drinking the exact same champagne in an average size magnum bottle that champagne always tastes better from a larger bottle. I absolutely love the cocktails at the Buddha Bar, but if I could speak French I would have tried to crash that party to see if Champagne from such a mammoth bottle does taste better. The party also had the trumpet player that would provide a live embellishment to the DJ music with them. He was a great trumpet player, maybe the quality of the champagne inspired him! We did not make dinner reservations but we were having such a great time we thought we would ask our waitress if we could eat dinner there. She seemed surprised that we had not made reservations but I think because we had dressed for dinner and been well behaved she secured us a table downstairs that had a great view of everything going on. The food was excellent, I think almost everyone could find something they liked on the menu. I enjoyed seeing how Parisians, and tourists to Paris, enjoy a night out on the town. The DJ and live trumpet player really were awesome and I enjoyed them so much I bought some CDs of their music on the way out. I rubbed the foot of the Buddha statue on the way out hoping that in the future I will be lucky enough to have another magical evening at the Buddha Bar! read more

After dinner, my colleague and I tried out this bar. We wanted to go somewhere new and thought why not. The bar itself was quite busy, the dining area was beautiful and cavernous. But the clientele raised occasional question marks. It was a mish mash of after work business men, lots of foreigners, older women, some younguns seeming like they were there to be seen. It was only 10pm and men were already drunk and obnoxious. Onto the drinks. I ordered a Boulevardier but the bartender didn't know what that was. He says to me " tell me what's in it and I'll make it. ". Um, it's not as simple as a vodka tonic... I ask for a Negroni and he said he can make that. But it was a little sweet for my liking. When the bill came it was called an Americano. That's a different drink. Hmm. I'm not too sure what they want to be. They have the fresh citrus/fruit and the fixings to make crafty cocktails and try hard to show they are "mixologists" but fail to deliver. Bartenders are good for eyecandy but were not really friendly. I guess that's the vibe they want to portray. Then again, you don't really go there for food. You go there to enjoy the atmosphere, see that big buddha statue in the middle of the room, and listen to the live DJ playing while you eat. Awesome atmosphere. Took my GF here at the time while visiting Paris. Very excellent and sophisticated decor and architecture. Very pricey so be prepared to feel the power of the Euro against the US dollar. They do accept AMEX and perks for using it. What I liked most about this place was the ambiance and that it was next to the Four Seasons, and other hotels so makes it walking distance if staying in the 8th district. It was perfectly dimmed and made for good conversation and romantic setting. I notice a lot of people dined here on business, hence a lot of older men in there 50's sitting at tables with each other. The menu was yum and the wine selection was enticing. The service was very good too. I would definitely dine here again. The only negative thing I can comment on is the coat check. I found it unnecessary to have a charge for the coat check, especially if your dining at a restaurant, just not used to it... it makes me feel like the place is squeezing for every extra buck or two, but then again isn't everybody? But I would highly recommend this place if looking for a good place to wine and dine in Paris. read more

The atmosphere is amazing - you want to love it. I went there 3 years ago couldn't wait to go back. I was very disappointed. Now I know to never go back. First time in my life I didn't even tip. Restaurant was half full but was set at the worst table (24" round so cramped couldn't move my chair once I wedged in . The service was mediocre at best as was the food. Like I said it has great atmosphere. Stop by for a drink and eat at L'Atelier were they have real food, great service and appreciate your patronage. The sushi was actually not bad at all and the appetizers we had were very good. The dinner food itself - I mean frankly it was like any basic Chinese food I've ever had. NOT worth the price. I would leave more stars but the service is so awful that I just can't. We had dinner reservations at 11pm and didn't even get our first drink until 1150pm. Our waitress was non existent. The table in front of us actually had a waiter that knew how to serve a table. They were seated after us and their drinks were flowing and food was coming their way. If I was the manager of that type of establishment-- I would never allow such incompetence of a waiter/waitress. SERVICE IS THE WORST I have experienced in any country. Train your waiters! Or waitress (girl with brown hair and light highlights was giggling and looked high the entire night). I truly hope management reads this and does something about it. We left so disappointed. The drinks were incredibly strong with a great wine selection however I find the sushi just mediocre. The bar/lounge area is a bit awkard since you're not able to see anyone although for a business setting or for a love affair to happen just in Paris; it's simply clever. The bar itself was very beautiful and quite mysterious as you enter into the low lit area past the host booth and allow your eyes to adjust to the dimmer light after exiting from the streets of Paris. The Asian cuisine was good but not any better than anything I could get from a much more economical restaurant back in Los Angeles. I had a very strong drink of absinthe which almost took my breath away with every swallow. I recommend coming with a group instead of as a couple if you want to sit at the larger round tables in the middle of the restaurant.
