After someone tried to steal my car and broke the steering column, I took it to Bucky's in Des Moines for repair. Before that, while getting my radiator fixed at ABC Auto, I was told the turn signal issue was coming from inside the steering column. I paid $1,700 to Bucky's to repair the column. When I got the car back, the turn signals still didn't work, the steering wheel buttons (which worked before) were now dead, and I had to jam it into park just to get it to register. I brought the car back and they looked at it -- only fixed the gear shift issue, then told me the turn signal problem wasn't covered under the work they did. They also tried to charge me for a new hazard switch, even though that was working before, and wanted to charge me a new diagnostic fee just to check anything else. They even tried to suggest that someone else must've tampered with the car, which is ridiculous -- I hadn't taken it anywhere else. They gave it back to me with new problems and never fixed the one I originally came in for. I've now filed a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General and am preparing to take them to small claims court. If you're thinking of getting major repairs done here, don't. They don't stand behind their work, and I paid almost $2,000 just to get my car back in worse condition. read more

I've been to Bucky's twice now. Every time I go I get amazing customer service and clear communication. The manager helps me every time I go in and staff is very friendly and honest. The only thing is sometimes it gets pricey. 1st experience I had to get my brakes done and my rotors replaced and it cost less than what less Schwab was pricing it for. A great place to come to for good work. 2nd experience I had my service engine light on and got a diagnostic. I found out I had a leak near my thermostat. Do NOT come here if you are young/a woman/or inexperienced with cars (or all combined as I am). They WILL try to scam you. I came in for an oil change and inspection a few months ago and they told me I needed multiple repairs done amounting to $1000+. Well, I was an unpaid intern at the time, so of course I did not have this money. But the manager insisted on one thing which was something to do with a part for the breaks. Apparently it was on its last leg so I had to pay $500 for this plus the oil change. I'm guessing this repair was not needed either. Last weekend I went to a different auto shop for a new oil change and inspection. Keep in mind I never got those 3 repairs done that Bucky's said I needed, the new auto shop inspected my car and drove it around to test it twice and they found my car was perfectly fine. Smh. I recommend Advanced Auto Repair down the road if you need an honest and reliable shop. Shame on you Bucky's for trying to take advantage of customers! My cashier/mechanic/cashier, Wally, whom I believed is also the store manager said that COVID19 is media hype after I asked him why no one in his shop (including him) was wearing a mask. He said that a colleague of his at another store used to wear a mask all of the time and the man got COVID19. He *insisted* in no uncertain terms that masks didn't work and that we all "need to think for ourselves." He said COVID19 was overhyped by the press. Earlier in the day I asked the man who checked me if he wouldn't mind putting a mask on while he checked me in. He said he just came in from outside. But we were inside at the time in a VERY small waiting area where 0 accomodations are made to social distance. I asked at least 3 more times about his masklessness and the store policy and reminded him that it was a mandate. Each time the employee tried to change the subject. He said I was free to take mine off if I wanted to because it was ok. I didn't! I was stunned. The maskless employees are working on our cars, sometimes inside of our cars possibly spreading droplets on our surfaces in cramped quarters like a car. How is that safe and hygienic?! There are no signs up stating that there is a state mandate and there were other customers in and out without masks on and they were never made aware of the rules. And did I mention that they allowed a couple with a pure bread PITBULL on a long leash to come in as I was checking out? No? Well that happened too and the people didn't have on masks either. I didn't feel safe there AT ALL. I'm not patronizing Bucky's ever again. read more

Get here early and expect the place to be jam packed. The mechanics here care about their job and they open promptly at 8:00 am. I used Bucky's in Renton exclusively but now we only use that location for emergencies (they do good work but they don't love love my German vehicle). Bucky's Kent ordered a special part for my vehicle to do a transmission flush and they have replaced a cat in our Japanese make vehicle. The shop does consistent quality work and they have many patrons but always treat everyone well from what I have seen. The prices here are very good and honestly there's not a better shop. Pro Tips: Arrive at shop open time and be aware others will do the same. Be patient and have time to wait first thing in the am. Be ready to move your vehicle as needed. Use autozone to get your parts and if you're getting a tranny flush you might want to order a tranny filter (lesson learned). This place is a good as it gets. read more

The break set on this car is expensive and parts are extremely hard to get and expensive. Wally was able to get me taken care of in less then 24 hours. DO NOT GO HERE, THEY MISDIAGNOSE TO GET THE MOST $$$ THEY CAN!!! I've done a lot of business with these guys, but their morals have changed. I had problems with my car overheating and took it to them. They claimed the hoses were loose and leaking coolant (even though I had 3 other people look at it, and their were no signs of that). I asked them how they got loose, and they said it must have been from who worked on it last (which was them). Bucky's claimed that it just need the coolant flushed and the thermostat replaced after the hoses had been tightened. I drove it around a couple more months in traffic, left it idling, on the freeway, and all seemed well. I decided to sell my car, and the day after I sell it, the engine overheats. I'm furious at this point because Bucky's said it was fixed, but this isn't the worst part. Bucky's took another look at it, and claimed it was the head gasket and that it was my fault for something being wrong with it. The people who bought the car wasn't buying it since Bucky's had replaced my head gasket not too long ago, and took it to another shop. The head gasket was fine!!!! Totally something different, and not very expensive like a head gasket replacement! Bucky's misdiagnosed just to get more money! Do not go to this place!!! read more

I so wanted to like this place. The manager is kooky and calls you things like "sweetheart" and "honey". It's like being in some other place...a place where they don't worry about sexism. Anyway... I took my truck there when I had a check engine light on. They replaced the part...the truck started acting up again in about a month...light on...they replaced it again...the truck started acting up again in about a month...light on...they replaced it again...the truck started acting up again in about a month... It was like a cross between the movie Groundhog Day and...some movie about cars. Anyway, I took it to the dealer and they replace the same part. They told me that the part Bucky's had used was so cheap that it couldn't handle the voltage. My truck has run great since and it's been over a year. Sigh. My headlights didn't work. Took it in to the shop. They had it for 2 days and when I left the lights worked. 7 months later, they stopped again. I called they told me when to come. He came out and talked to me, didn't look at anything because the lights came on that day. I said "must be a loose wire or a short" he said call when it is a problem again. I called 1 week later, they told me when to come, I dropped it off at 10 and heard nothing. Went back at 3 and he never even looked at it. They don't stand behind their work. They didn't charge me. I appreciated the honesty. They could have changed them and charged me. They created and installed a custom dual exhaust system for my classic 1948 chevy, and wow, what a great job...fabrication was right there at the shop and truly was a piece of art when done. They are meticulous and ever watchful of items outside of what you came to get done...they have the aim of keeping you on the road. I went early in the morning to have my older classic car serviced due to a exhaust leak.The shop is under new management, and extremely busy .I had been informed that my situation was more than a leak and pretty much in need of replacing the entire exhaust system.Wally the manager was able to find and have delivered all the parts needed to do a complete rebuild of the exhaust system on my 1971 Datsun 240z.The mechanic Omar was the true genius behind this rebuild.My car is now pretty and safe to drive again.This is where my car will be serviced from now on. Discovered a big hole and broken exhaust hanger on my tail pipe this morning. Manager Luis got me in and explained to me the process and cost prior to any service which i appreciated. His technician Jose was incredible, getting everything cut, a new pipe, welds, and new hangers installed in less than an hour. He checked in with me and explained everything to me as i was watching the repair. Overall, im grateful that they are one of the few places open on saturday. They were actually quite busy and could use another hand. The cost was reasonable and as promised after the repairs. read more

Went to Bucky's for an oil change and inspection considering there was a good Groupon deal and they gave it back with a quick oil leak we did not have before their care. They had called in the middle of our inspection to say it was minor, once we said we would look at it ourselves they changed it to a major leak. I will ever go to Bucky's ever again, and this is just a warning to people who are considering. This is what happened... I wanted to get an inspection for my car, just a standard one because I am moving to California next week. I walked in and after about 2 hours, the guy at the counter wrote me a list. He told me that the disc brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced and the front wheel bearings. He quoted me $500 to replace both of those. He also said my spark plugs were going bad, along with various other little things. The total added up to $1315.45. I was so shocked and sad. Just last year I got an inspection from the Ford dealership and everything was in perfect shape. My car is 2008, so things are slowly starting to need fixing, but this was too much! Instead of throwing money at them, I decided the smartest thing to do was to get a second opinion on the more important problems. I went across the street to Les Schwab (who I trust 100%), and 30 minutes after dropping my car off there, the guy called me. He told me that the disc brake pads, rotors and wheel bearings are in PERFECT condition. He said that the brake pads are brand new from when I had bought the car, and nothing needs to be done. I am so glad I got that second opinion before I threw away over a grand for no reason. These people lied to my face. I feel disrespected, but thankful that I was smart enough to not trust them. I just pray that they don't continue ripping people off or they go out of business. The whole situation disgusts me when I think about it, but all I can do is let it go. This weekend I took a car I was thinking about buying- from an independent seller that lived near Bucky's. I dropped it off, went and had the best breakfast of my life (please see my review on Old Milwaukee Cafe if interested) and by the time I came back, they had done a full "buyers inspection". This car had a small piece of my heart (what's left of it) and it was painful to hear it wasn't a wise investment. I appreciated GREATLY the candor, the honesty, and the expertise of the gentleman who seemed to take a personal investment into if I should buy this car or not. They saved me from making a mistake, and in their opinion, the safety of driving an unsafe car...my life. I just wish there was one in Seattle proper! I went in with a brake issue. I forget the gentlemens name at the front but he was good. He informed me what the issue was. He said if I got another estimate he would beat it by 10%. I took advantage of that and true to his word I had a 10% reduction. After work was done I was having a caliper issue. I brought it back. He repaired the caliper, which I paid for, but the rotors were damaged. He paid for that. I was given a new rotor. Additionally he did something with the axle for free. Sure it was a pain sitting there but he was friendly. It all worked out. I'd recommend this place. Minus one star because the first estimate wasn't as good as my second. Decent service! Nothing bad to say upon first visit. Received a routine oil change for under $40 (with the addition of an online coupon valued at about $20 off). Some things to note: the area is not too great (but what do you expect, this is Des Moines, not Bellevue), parking lot is pretty small, and service is first come first serve so call beforehand to ask about wait times. Spent an hour waiting for the oil change (weekday, early afternoon); there was only 1 individual ahead of me. Cant comment on how the wait is like for busy weekend days or peak hours. Hispanic guy (hate to reference him like that but his name totally slipped my mind) upfront was very good at his job with juggling handling maintenance, constant phone calls, and relaying messages to waiting customers.
