    Point Clear of Stress
    Jennifer B.

Bucky's Lounge at The Grand Hotel is a perfect spot for outdoor drinks and time with family and friends! We always plan a night around the outdoor fire pits during out visits to The Grand and highly recommend you do the same! Excellent drink and wine menu. My personal favorite is "Point Clear of Stress" and I get one every trip. It's a delicious tropical drink that always makes me feel like I'm on vacation with it's mix of vodka, rum, peach schnapps, orange & pineapple juice. Food was a bit hit or miss during our last trip. Things to definitely get: crab claws, Artesian Cheeses plate, Romaine salad, Ty's Fries (loaded French fries). The sandwiches were all a bit underwhelming this so I'd suggest skipping them in favor of splurging on fried crab claws and craft cocktails. Our server was lovely. She was supper attentive, pleasant to talk to and checked in on us frequently. Finally, if you are at the Grand in the fall (September/October), stop at the gardens in front of Bucky's Lounge to see the monarch Butterfly migration...it's spectacular!

Having fantastic Sunday cocktails with some very special friends & neighbors!!

Bucky's Birdcage Lounge, located on Point Clear Resort at Grand Hotel Marriott Resort in Fairhope, AL is a fabulous lounge both inside and out. I'm not going to include the Grand Hotel review here, but it is a crown jewel of the area and I'll have to make a few more visits here to get into that. Last weekend we had fantastic Sunday cocktails with some very special friends & neighbors!! But before I talk about this lovely facility I must share Bucky's story ....... Hospitality Legend Aura J."Bucky" Miller passed away at age 85 after 61 Years at the Grand Hotel Marriot. (1917 - 2002) Bucky began his career at the Grand on April 18, 1941, the first day the hotel reopened and had become a fixture at the resort, where he greeted guests with a hearty, booming welcome. He developed a renowned ability to remember names, and regularly surprised guests with a personalized greeting upon their return. Bucky indeed was a legend in the hospitality industry. He maintained the Grand Life, made personal connections, and is part of their rich and storied traditions. The United States Congress and seven southern states have passed resolutions honoring him. In 2002, The Alabama Department of Tourism recognized Miller as one of Alabama s Unforgettable Faces. Bucky served as bartender and server for the majority of his career in the Birdcage Lounge. He spent his last 12 years at The Grand as the hotel's Hospitality Ambassador, meeting and greeting guests. He became such a familiar figure to guests that the hotel's lounge was named after him ... Buckys Lounge. There's a life-size bronze statue of Bucky Miller sculpted by local artist Barbaro Casey. Bucky s Dedication Celebration took place on May 7, 2005. The Grand Hotel embraces the unparalleled and gracious southern hospitality that he represented. It's quite the remarkable story, of a remarkable man, that I'm certain I would have loved to get to know, but once I read and reread it somehow I could feel his presence, very cool. Okay, there are some great drinks, great food, with small plates like Heirloom tomato and Smoked Fish Dip, and friendly, professional, and attentive staff here. Whether your inside and listening or dancing to the piano player or outdoors during the day with a fabulous view of Mobile Bay or at night the firepits, it's pretty tough not really have a very nice time. The sunsets are pretty darn nice here, and I'm all about sunsets so yeah. The place is gorgeous, easy access and I suggest you look 'em up because if you are in the area this is a very cool place anytime of the day or night that they're open. I suggest valet for your car and they validate it for you inside. Bottom line: It's really hard beat the the relaxed, upscale vibe at Bucky's with the great libations, music, food, friendly people and views of the hotel grounds and the Bay. Grilled shrimp Caesar salad
    Ee Vonn Y.

Even though their shrimp caesar salad was almost $18, it was satisfying. Of course, the markup in price had to do with the name of the hotel. The lounge itself was very pretty. Every table you could have sat in, had a great view of the ocean. There was a great variety of drinks, and customers who were there mainly to enjoy the view. The staff was excellent. Even in the midst of overpriced simple food items, sometimes, it just takes wonderful customer service, a great atmosphere, and a solid menu to make a restaurant. I was in a hurry, and the employees still treated me like a star. My food was handled with care, and they made sure I was happy with what I had.

Basil Hayden and club soda and a strawberry mojito.

Very cool little part of the bigger resort. You have to try the hamburger and the shrimp quesadilla. Also it has live music at night.

I also had a tasty iced coffee with brown sugar and pralines it was so good. I love how it wasn't overly sweet, I want a nice treat with caffeine not diabetes. It hit the spot. I appreciate that they have oat milk or almond in addition to cows milk. If I can't say enough nice things let me add that my server Brandy was very kind, attentive and if I were her boss I would be very happy because she's the kind of person you want to represent your business. The ambience and decor were also very nice, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say soothing. Even though it was an absolutely beautiful day I chose to sit my skinny derrière inside on the padded half booth because I had been outside all day riding and wanted to relax. The Barn at the Hope Farm is a lovely spot to grab a latté and a croissant or a little lunch. I recommend it for those of us who prefer gracious living and don't just eat to survive.

Hubs and I are not complicated people (yeah, right!) I am a Southerner, so I think I've known about The Grand Hotel for a long time. I wanted to stay here for a quick escape from my (albeit wonderful) everyday. I was pretty picky in room selection ~ I wanted a balcony with relaxing chairs (nope ~ not a high top) and a view of water. Our second floor room in the Spa Building delivered perfectly. The Grand has an app listing all the things it offers ~ I can't list them all here. Still the lawn games (bocce, corn hole, ping pong, mini golf) and bicycles merit mention! Don't miss the 3:45 pm history of the hotel and cannon firing! It's expensive to stay here, but it is fun. The grounds do not disappoint ~ the staff miss no detail in keeping this property in top form. Our room was nice ~ but my theory of hotels is that no matter how luxurious the lobby, the rooms are basically the same. Our room is beautifully decorated (calming colors!) and has all the requirements! We so loved our stay!!

The hotel itself is beautiful and I feel they've done an excellent job incorporating all the historical aspects of the hotel into a modern day beach resort. All of the amenities were incredible, including the pools. The beach and the views from the room and the old historic hotel were lovely. I picked a room in the historic main building, and I couldn't have been happier with my choice; the beds were comfortable, the room, large, in the bathroom well appointed. This was an exceptional place to stay on the Gulf shore!

This was not a hard and solid decision on my part. Instead I had decided that if I had my druthers, I would not eat there. Of course when it is my babécita's birthday my druthers were of no consideration and I found myself again at Tamara's for a Saturday brunch. We arrived to find the main dinning area to be full, and since we didn't feel like eating in the open to the outside area, we learned that we had an estimated 20-30 minutes wait for a table. Their was six to eight customers waiting around the hostess's stand inside, with another six waiting outside under a covered area. We decided to wait outside, but after about 15 minutes a rain shower began. The kind people waiting on the benches and standing under the awning encouraged us to move in further from the edge where they we were getting wet. A couple standing moved into the restaurant to make even more room for us. The hostess, seeing that it was raining outside when this couple opened the door, came to the door and invited us all in, announcing that she would make room for us all. Which she promptly did. My wife had informed the hostess of my needs, and had requested a corner table for ease of access, but once inside the restaurant, I noticed that the table arrangement seemed less crowded, which helped to ease my concerns about getting to a table. As it happened, right at the 20 minute mark, we were informed that our table was ready, and we were led to a table, not on a corner, but to a table at the end of a row of tables, and against a partition. I found this arrangement even better than our requested corner table, as it meant that I had no foot traffic behind me that I might inadvertently bump into, or bump into me. I was grateful for the evidently experienced hostess working out such a fine alternative to our request, and doing it in such a timely manner. Now I get to the food, and wait staff service. All I can say is that Tamara's management has both pegged to the highest degree. Our waiter appeared immediately, took our orders since we had perused the menu while we were waiting to be seated. As for our food, my birthday girl had the Spinach Eggs Benedict, and I had the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Both were excellent. Neither of us had a single complaint, and my wife, who is fascinated with Tamara's long list of various types of Eggs Benedicts, promised that we will be back for many more visits to try each one. I am grateful that I was forced to forego my pledge not to patronize this establishment again, as it provided an opportunity to learn how the good people at Tamara's made adjustments that allowed my experience to be enjoyed more fully. I am also grateful in that we can continue to enjoy their excellent food.

First off, the ambiance is very nice--comfortable, welcoming, and a great setting for a casual evening out. The service was also very good. Our server was attentive and friendly, which definitely made a positive impression. As for the food: * Raw oysters ($22): Fresh, plump, and overall very good quality. That said, it almost felt like each oyster had a bit of added salt, which threw me off a little. Not bad, just slightly off from what I'd expect. * Sushi-grade ahi tuna appetizer ($14): This was one of the highlights--very good flavor and nicely prepared. * Gumbo (large - $12): Probably the biggest disappointment. I'd rate it about a 5/10. It wasn't terrible, but it lacked depth and richness compared to what you'd expect in this region. * Happy hour mimosa ($3) and margarita ($6): Solid for the price--no complaints there. Total came out to about $62 cash ($64.30 with card fee), which feels reasonable for what we ordered. Overall, this is a place I'd come back to if I were already in the area and someone suggested it, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for. If I did return, it would likely be for the oysters or the ahi tuna. Good experience, just not quite memorable enough to push it past three stars.
