And honestly, I'm not mad about it. I'm always on the hunt for somewhere local, somewhere new, and somewhere that gives me an excuse to eat entirely too much food. The Cute Dimpled One somehow found Bucks Tavern on the World Wide Web. Apparently the internet isn't completely useless. We needed somewhere to grab some fuel before heading off for a Nippert at Night experience. Now here's the problem... The game didn't start until around 7:30. My bedtime is 8:30. So basically, this was going to be an extreme endurance event. THE ATMOSPHERE Bucks Tavern is tucked into a strip mall in Loveland. Parking wasn't a problem for us, although I'm guessing things could get a little more interesting during the busy times. From the outside? Meh. Then you walk inside... WAIT A MINUTE. The outside says strip mall. The inside says "somebody's uncle owns a cabin in the woods and has been collecting deer heads since 1974." Warm colors, plenty of seating, a fireplace with a deer head hanging above it, high tops, low tops, a fully stocked bar and TVs everywhere. And speaking of high tops... Who decided these tables were a good idea? You sit down and suddenly you're back in elementary school sitting at the Big Kids Table, except now your legs are dangling and you're wondering if you're going to need a step stool to get back down. I really liked the decor. It was comfortable, welcoming and had that neighborhood tavern feel. And there were plenty of people inside who clearly weren't first timers. The staff seemed to know several of the customers. That's a good sign. It had a little bit of a Cheers vibe. You know the kind of place where somebody walks in and three people yell, "HEY BOB!" That's what you want in a local tavern. Mrs. Patty L. was our server and she was fantastic. She kept my water full, which is basically the gold standard for me. #Score THE FOOD Mrs. Patti L stopped by and got us started with the Mozzaluna Breaded Cheese. Basically breaded mozzarella triangles with marinara. The cheese was creamy. The marinara was good. Plenty of food. But... $13? I'm going to need the mozzarella to start telling me its life story for that price. It wasn't bad at all. I just didn't think it was a $13 appetizer. The Mrs. ordered the 5 Mini Burgers. Her review? She likes the mini burgers. Same price range as a regular burger, but she likes having five little burgers staring back at her. And naturally, she didn't eat them all. Because apparently we ordered enough food to feed a small township. I started looking through the menu trying to find something different. Bucks has a pretty traditional tavern menu with burgers, sandwiches, Reubens, club sandwiches, brats, tenderloin, chicken, fish, salads, soups and desserts. But then I saw it... THE MEATLOAF SANDWICH. Ladies and gentlemen... WE HAVE A WINNER. MEATLOAF SANDWICH A "Signature Sandwich" they say. Homemade meatloaf, lightly grilled, on a telera bun with pork barbecue, fried onion straws and barbecue sauce. And crinkle-cut fries. When it hit the table my first thought was: "Holy crap. That's a lot of sandwich." My second thought was: "Well, I guess we're doing this." I am a BIG fan of meatloaf. My grandmother and mother both made great meatloaf, and despite years of trying, I have never managed to duplicate either one. So whenever I see meatloaf on a menu, I'm probably ordering it. This one did NOT disappoint. The bun was delicious. The meatloaf was excellent. Then you get the pork barbecue and barbecue sauce kicking in, and suddenly your taste buds are having a little meeting. It was messy. Not "grab a napkin" messy. I'm talking cut-the-sandwich-in-half, deploy-the-napkins, accept-your-fate messy. I have a big mouth. No comment necessary. It was a challenge. The crinkle-cut fries were also cooked perfectly. Crispy without being burnt. And yes... I ate the whole thing. I was absolutely stuffed. Which brings me to something I need to address with myself... I NEED TO STOP ORDERING AN APPETIZER. Every single time. I walk into a restaurant hungry and suddenly I'm like: "Yeah, we should probably get an appetizer." Great ambience and a great menu and great food. We went to he Great Wolf Lodge and this place was recommended by a few people on FB. We really enjoyed it and the Salads were fantastic! We will come back. My wife loved her Strawberry Salad! My son had the Chopped Salad and it was amazing as well! I had the Hot Ham and Cheese and it was good (especially the pretzel bun) but next time I will get the Salmon Salad. The soup of the day was Lobster Bisque and it was very good as well. read more

My in laws brought us to Bucks Tavern to show off one of their favorite spots in the area. They usually sit at the bar, but it was a busy Saturday night and with four of us, there just wasn't room. We ended up waiting about 20-30 minutes for a table and hung out in the little entrance room where they had a few seats. We realized most people were hanging out in their cars and that was probably a better and warmer idea. Our server was friendly and grabbed waters and our other drink orders right away. We ended up ordering their version of mozzarella sticks (half moon shaped pieces) and stuffed mushrooms (deep fried and stuffed) for appetizers and both were great. I loved the house made sauces that paired with them. I ended up ordering the Italian Beef sandwich with extra giardiniera and a side caesar. The beef was really flavorful, but the sandwich started falling apart when I tried to eat it so I ended up going knife and fork with it. I think next time I'd order it with cheese like another Yelper did and maybe some Italian dressing so pour over. The giardiniera was delicious! My husband got the chicken fingers and french fries (they don't come as one meal) and ranch and the portions are very generous. He didn't end up finishing everything, but really enjoyed it. My FIL got the pot roast sandwich with a side chopped salad and my MIL just got the chopped salad. THey love this spot and especially the chopped salad. The server made sure our waters were full and checked on us frequently. The whole space feels like someone's basement with the decor and the food definitely has a more personal touch. Bucks was recommended to me by some friends who work there in the kitchen, they hyped up the burger, you know I hada try it. I sat at the bar, bartender was cool, not a crazy craft draft list tho so I went with the bells ipa (rating on untapped) Only 2 burgers on the menu, plus the burger of the month, so I went with the bucks burger. Only comes with 2 toppings, i added pickle and onion. Came out relatively quick after looking around and enjoying the atmosphere with my drink. The burger was pretty good. Fries crispy, and the chili hit the spot. I prefer smash patty style more but one patty can be done right, example bucks. I wasn't blown away by the food, but the hunting/ homey atmosphere and excitement of the new burger of the month would bring me back. read more

I've eaten here many times over the last ten years and for the most part find their food very good for a bar. The prices have definitely gotten way higher which is a shame. What really ticks me off is charging $12 for chips and salsa! I thought it was a mistake when I looked at my check. That's flat out theft for just tortilla chips and jar salsa. My husband and I wanted to try a restaurant that was new to us. We decided on Bucks Tavern because it was nearby and has a good rating on Yelp. We were seated right away and a server presented us with a menu and took our drink orders. The menu is small but everything sounded good. We ordered a soft pretzel as an appetizer and it was 3 soft pretzel sticks. It was very tasty. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and my husband got a meatloaf with fries. Loved this place. First time I've ever eaten there and it was great. The service was fantastic and the food even better. We had a long wait for a Sunday at 4:30 but once we were seated all went well. Tried this restaurant yesterday for the first time. The most outstanding feature of our dining experience was our server, Samantha. She's in the top 5 of any server I ever had the pleasure of meeting. Extremely personable & helpful. One thing she said that impressed us was that she has a college degree and still choose to work there because it's a great fit for her. She doesn't look old enough to have worked there as long as she has. It says a lot about the owners and place in general. They've got the largest chopped salad I've ever seen and the one I saw was considered the side salad. They even let you order off the children's menu! Most places won't let you do that. Hate to praise too much because there's usually a long wait as too many people already know how good this place is. But I love it so I'll just say we go here frequently and the food is always terrific. Service is excellent. They have the beer I want and I alternate between getting a cheeseburger or reuben, but always the onion straws (which unfortunately my wife loves too so I have to share). Their meat is from the butcher and not the supermarket and is a big part of why everything tastes so good. If you go, please keep it a secret. The wait line is already long enough. read more

Tony and I was sightseeing in the area and stopped here to have our lunch. Tony went with Budweiser from the bar and I ordered Unsweetened Tea with Lemon and Lime. After looking over the menu, Tony went with a German Bratwurst Sausage on a Kaiser Bun with a Pickled Sweet Kraut and regular Yellow Kraft Mustard and French Fries with Ketchup. I went with Crispy Fish Tacos that has pickled onions w a cabbage slaw and avocado drizzled sauce. The food wasn't bad but it was like bar food. Tony said his sandwich had to much bread for the size of the sausage. Tony had wanted a brown mustard but it was not available and he wasn't fan of a sweet kraut. But it was okay. The service wasn't too well. They never came over to refill our drinks or get him another beer. We asked for additional napkins but they never brought them to us. We will never go back to this location because one we may never be back in this particular area. The food was okay, prices too much for the quality of food and services.
