We started on Friday and finished on Sunday firing 1000 rounds while developing skills shooting targets from 3 yards up to 140 yards. I never thought I could shoot such a small pistol that far and be accurate but I did. Our course also included outdoor and indoor (playhouse) simulators with our instructor requiring us to use only one hand to shoot and also one eye by putting tape over our non dominant eye. Other training included shooting from and around vehicles. Gunsite training is for real world situations and consists of the highest standards. No wonder why it is the oldest and largest firearm school in the US. The facilities here are world class along with the instructors. This class was led by Jim Owens and he was excellent as a teacher and safety was paramount. I always enjoy coming to Gunsite and consider it to be without equal. Yes, it's pricey but you get what you pay for.

Since it's been years since I've shot a gun and my son is a novice with guns unless you count his vast experience with an official Red Ryder BB gun, we took the First Time Shooter course which is a basic 30 minute course on basic safety. Then we hit the shooting range. Out of a wide variety of handguns to choose from, we rented a M18 Modular Handgun. A lot of gun. Ear and eye guards are mandatory as well as a double door protocol to enter and exit the range which prevents the noise issue from the range, and I assume was adopted after the Chris Kyle murder for additional safety measures. There is a safety monitor when there are any shooters which was helpful for me in loading the darn magazine. We'll be back and may take one of the classes. I highly recommend Timberline for anyone who wants training or plans on buying a gun.

Also, noticed they had an outdoor axe throwing target and decided to go inside. As we stepped inside it wasn't too busy. It was clean, nicely lit and was very organized. I'm a total amateur to shooting guns, very little experience but luckily I had a great instructor, Randy, to help me. He was informative, courteous and gave me a great recommendation for which belt-fed to try out. Showed me exactly how to hold each gun safely and comfortably, never treated me like an idiot or anything, he was great. Really chill vibe which helped with having such a good time. I shot a bunch of guns and it was a total blast, especially the big ass belt-fed gun. It's not cheap, but hey either is ammo and upkeep, so I get it. Nice little gift shop as well, got myself a shot glass. I had a great experience and If I ever end up in Williams again, I'd love to bring a friend or family member here.

We spent too much time with Jim C. who was running the sign-in desk laughing hard as we shared our common yet peculiar observations of current events and the weather. Once we settled down, Jim gave us a thorough, professional safety briefing and sent us to the range. There we saw and later met RSO, Mike K. When we arrived he was assisting three young men by spotting and calling shots for them. He was in full command of the range, yet took the time to engage (and provide some training insights) to those men. As we unloaded and prepared our gear, Mike kept an attentive eye on us and began to instruct and assist at every turn. His other customers packed up and left as it was very close to closing time, but he insisted we stay as long as we needed to get our job done; he was most gracious and generous with his personal time to ensure we left CTC satisfied we had done what we came to do. Even though we were the late ones and Jim and Mike stayed past closing time, we were given range passes for another day. I marveled at Mike and complimented him on his willingness to sacrifice his own time to complete the instruction he begun with us, and the difference we experienced from the arrogance one sometimes feels from personnel at public ranges. He responded as I would have guessed by saying "I love doing this. I love seeing people improving and enjoying the sport. And, I don't know if you recognized this or not, but you don't find 'public range' in our name. We see ourselves and only hire people that can get on board with the idea we are a training center." Mike, we get it. We three agree that none of us, with over 200 years of combined age, had ever experienced on any of the many ranges we had ever visited the genuine customer service and support ethic we did that day. Thank you Jim C. and thank you Mike K... you represent yourselves, CTC, and the sport so very well!

We absolutely loved this place! My girlfriend and I were visiting Sedona with my father and his wife who are considering moving here, and they asked what I wanted to do. Seeing as I am from a small town in Northern (like, WAY northern) California, it is relatively difficult to rent or buy a gun, or even to find a shooting range. I told him I thought we should go shooting, so I looked this place up, and saw that it had noteworthy reviews. They provide a package that costs about $80 and includes everything a beginner needs: gun rentals, ear/eye protection rentals, ammunition, a characteristic; fun; patient; and knowledgeable older instructor who is convinced he can convince anyone that they can and will shoot today (hey, it worked on my step-mom), etc. On top of that, to the surprise of a Californian, you can actually rent and shoot fully-automatic rifles the same day you walk in their door. I got to hold an M4 and an AK. The rental process was very smooth, the gentlemen working there were courteous and knew their stuff, and our overall experience was very positive. My dad (who was not a huge supporter of guns beforehand) was raving about it on our way home. He said he'll likely go back there for a few more lessons. I would highly recommend this place for beginner, intermediate, and advanced shooters alike.

I took their CCW class in October 2021 and have been a regular since then. Staff is knowledgeable and efficient. There is a rifle range and pistol range, as well as archery. The pistol range has six separate lanes and area for loading and personal storage. Clean and temp controlled, although not everyone cleans their brass after a session, so be sure to ensure your lane is clean before firing. I've purchased firearms through them and staff is competent and thorough. They offer hourly lane and firearm rentals as well as 6-month and annual memberships, which I highly recommend. The facility is perched up on a hill over looking the Verde Valley, located by the Yavapai Sheriff station/jail and Out of Africa. I do wish they had a larger selection of pistols for "try-out", and for sale. However, they can order anything for the customer. Highly recommend if you're visiting and want something fun to try..or if you're a local and want to brush-up, or maintain your skills!

I moved from CA to Prescott last month after seriously getting absorbed into shooting. As most people are aware, CA is not a great 2nd Amendment State so after much research I committed to Prescott with the goal of becoming a proficient shooter in as many platforms and styles of shooting as I can in two years - starting with pistols. I served in the US Marine Corps Reserves from 2001-07, with a deployment to Fallujah, Iraq, in 2005. During my Marine Corps days, I only got to meaningfully shoot the M16A2 (expert level) and the 50-cal machine gun (Humvee mounted). I never got any meaningful pistol time, and also, I was never personally into shooting as a Marine or since I got out until last year. Having moved to Prescott last month, I decided to go with Larry. Man, has it been a fantastic intro to pistols (and Prescott in general). During Day 1 (dry fire, fundamentals and class work), I learned A LOT. Larry was quickly able to assess I wasn't exactly a beginner but still rough and unpolished and so tailored the lesson to more advanced training. He's got an awesome dry-fire training set up with lasers, computerized cameras synced to targets, etc... It was incredibly fun and also humbling. In Day 2 - Live Fire - I had a blast starting with single, slow, accurate shooting to quickly advancing to rapid fire drills which were eye opening in terms of all of the tiny elements that need to be done right in order to be both accurate and fast. Things like proper grip, trigger pull, cadence, focus, stance, etc... Again, it was totally fun for me and humbling at the same time. But Larry and Dave, with their incredibly generous time and input into giving me tools and a direction to aim for - that is - with an eye towards competing so that I can improve as a shooter overall and with training methodologies, I have a clear direction to move towards. Anyways, this review is getting long so I'll stop. Bottom line: definitely train and learn from Larry and Dave.
