Some things that were weren't fully prepared for was the snow storm that had come in and all of the ice on the trail. (Being from North California, we don't really expect the desert to have snow). We found out a few days in advance so made plans to get some YakTracks or spikes for our shoes. Most sporting stores don't carry them, and when they do, they are expensive. While calling around we found this store. We were told that they had them in stock and they opened at 8am Sunday morning (this was reconfirmed). Come 830 the store was not open. Were were ready to give up and give this one star and a bad review. When a local, who knew the owner, heard about our situation. They called the him, and he came and opened his shop. Apparently they had changed to winter hours, and that he was not the one who confirmed hours on the phone. Once we were inside of the shop, he helped us get the missing gear we needed, and told us about the trail conditions. He was genuinely concerned about our safety and well being, and even asked us to contact him is we had any kind of trouble while in the park. Once we left the store, (I went from being personally prepared for any situation, to extremely anxious at what to expect), we felt like we were in a better state. Thank you so much for all of your help. I really appreciate it. And to the local who made it all happen- thanks to you as well, we had an amazing hike and got out safe. Couldn't have done it without this store and the service we received. My family forgot all about the issue with the time.

Boots and shirts are there for both men and women, but I just did not see anything at all that would seem appealing. Also fence posts for building your own corral. For boots, I would recommend buying online, or else go to Boot Barn if you want to buy in person. Of course you will have to drive to the Phoenix metro area for their outlets, but that should not be a surprise. For meats, I would suggest the local Fry's Food store. Decent prices and a large selection. I do believe that buying local is a good idea. But of course the stores have to have what you want, and have it at a price which at least is in the right ballpark. Buck is number 7 in the world at cracking a bullwhip and number 5 in the world with a quick draw (yep, verified with Guinness Book of World Records). He travels all over the country, teaching people about real cowboys-not the Hollywood version. He taught me how to crack a bullwhip in about one minute and I took the head off of the snake....which was a plastic straw. But still! I totally did it!!! Such a fascinating life to hear about and an incredibly kind human who is trying to keep teaching the cowboy way to kids in Williams with lessons, or on a speaking engagement circuit. If you get the chance to stop in, don't hesitate to do so!

Also, noticed they had an outdoor axe throwing target and decided to go inside. As we stepped inside it wasn't too busy. It was clean, nicely lit and was very organized. The staff was friendly, and knowledgeable. They had a variety of guns, and for kids they had GoatGuns and other items. They had a bathroom for customers which was well kept and clean. I didn't have time to actually go axe throwing or go to the shooting range but plan to next time I'm in town.

My hubs has a condition that causes shakiness and instability. They were so cordial and acted like that was no big deal and were able to offer solutions for him to be able to do XC with me. Huge selection of everything you could possibly need or want for a day of snow fun. They do complete rentals and of course sales as well. Prices and policies were reasonable. It seemed like half the store was 40% off so we looked around then went to the shoe section. I found some full price Merrell shoes to try. The clerk was having a conversation with a customer about possible Grand Canyon hikes which was interesting....for the first 5 minutes. Made eye contact with the clerk but nothing, just kept talking about hikes and never about the shoes being tried on. Got up and looked for someone else to help but no one available after a lap of the store. Went back to the shoe department, the clerk was STILL talking about hikes and ignoring me standing there with the shoe. Put the shoe back on the shelf, we left and spent our money elsewhere. While we don't give off the hardcore "outdoors" vibe this store is definitely not as cool as they think they are. We were also ignored when first walking through the store while hearing another customer being offered help. Good thing there are a dozen other stores selling the same stuff within a square mile of old downtown. Maybe why so much of the merchandise was 40% off?

The two times we came here, everyone had a smile on their face and were not annoyed by our novice fishing questions. They've got an amazing selection of fishing gear (albeit at a slightly higher price than big box stores, but that's expected), and a large selection of snacks and beverages as well. We were initially drawn here because they sell water dogs (a juvenile salamander type of live fishing bait that seems to work well in Lake Mary), and were surprised to see that they had some. There was a little girl, I'm assuming the daughter of the woman who worked there, who was so cute AND knowledgeable when she took us out back to show us the water dogs. We ended up getting a half dozen water dogs for around $8 or so, a bait bucket, a pair of gloves (there was no way I was touching those suckers with my bare hands!), and 24 night crawler worms all for around $20. The cute little girl I mentioned before rang us up under the supervision of the woman, and then sent us on our way! The second time we came here was a few days later, when we decided to give fishing another try. We were there earlier in the morning, and a kind older gentleman was there to greet us. We decided to skip out on the water dogs this time, because the other day when we tried them they flew off our hooks within the first few casts. Needless to say, with this gentleman's information, we found out that we were hooking them on the wrong way, which explains it! But, we bought some worms, chicken liver and he even threw in some mackerel as well! He also gave us tips on how and where to catch the fish in Lake Mary. Although we didn't catch anything during our two day fishing trip adventure, we did meet some nice people along the road at the Lake Mary Country Store, and if we are in the area again, we are sure to be coming back!

I spoke with a nice guy, he was probably the owner, and he gave me and my friend some EXCELLENT ideas for cool beautiful hikes. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. The store is packed with clothes, hiking gear, etc., so if you need a rain jacket, hiking shirts or pants, maps, whatever, they have it. A well-stocked friendly place. Highly recommended.
