Title: Shockingly Unprofessional, Disrespectful, and Hurtful Experience -- Please Read Before Going Here Review: I am writing this review to warn other customers about my experience at Buckley's Auto Care. In just a matter of weeks, I spent over $2,500 on repairs here, trusting that I was dealing with a professional and honest shop. Unfortunately, what I experienced afterward was deeply upsetting and absolutely unacceptable. The day after one of the repairs, my car developed a major issue. I called immediately and was told to bring the car back. When I arrived and calmly explained what I believed the problem to be, the young woman at the front desk responded with smirks and a laughing attitude, as if I was lying or trying to get over on their company. Her unprofessional, dismissive behavior made me feel belittled from the moment I walked in. It got worse from there. Instead of being treated with respect as a paying customer with a legitimate concern, I was met with rudeness, hostility, and complete dismissal by the staff. I was yelled at, spoken to in a harsh tone, and talked over every time I tried to explain the timeline. I left feeling disrespected, unheard, and honestly shaken by how aggressively I was spoken to. As a Black woman, the way I was addressed made me feel not only disrespected but also singled out in a discriminatory and demeaning way. All I asked for was for the work they performed to be rechecked -- especially considering the amount of money I had just spent. Instead, I was treated like an inconvenience and spoken to as if I was trying to scam them, even though my concern began the very next day after their repair. This experience raises serious concerns about their professionalism, their customer service, and their willingness to stand behind their work. If anything goes wrong after a repair here, be prepared to be blamed, dismissed, or spoken to disrespectfully. I had a vehicle towed here randomly on Saturday. Dead battery that AAA didn't have in stock. Buckley's contacted me Sunday and the car was completed today, Monday! They offered another item that they saw which I greatly appreciated and they did not in anyway try and sell me on more than I needed. Responsive, great communicators, fast turnaround time. Buckley's Auto Repair I am an ex auto mechanic who currently builds machinery for the petro-chemical industry so I am no stranger to machinery. I was helping a girlfriend with her car which had some problems. It was leaking oil and antifreeze. I agreed to look at it and found the oil filter mount leaking where it bolted to the engine block. There is a small molded seal that goes bad. Aboout $20. I have been doing my own car repair for years but without a lift or a shop these days I really didn't want to get into this myself. It was leaking pretty bad so I took it to the closest place to my house. Buckley's on Rt 4 just out of Newport, DE. They called me saying they found the leaks and it was going to be $1800 to replace the oil filter mount assembly. I asked why they couldn't just replace the gasked that failed. They said they couldn't be sure that would fix it so they wanted replace everything involved. I said I didn't want to just throw new parts at a 2008 VW with 180,000+ miles! I suggested they simply troubleshoot the problem and fix it. Like I would do, replace only what needed to be replaced. They would not do that and I didn't want to risk driving it anyplace as it really got bad. I agreed to the $1800. I picked up the car a few days later and looked at the bill. There sign says they are NAPA Auto Part supplied repair shop. The oil filter mount lists at VW Dealer for around $350, NAPA sells it for around $220. They charged me $530! The anti freeze leak was a small plastic tee that VW lists for $17 they charged me $127 for that! I argued with the arrogant young twerp who is the son of one of the owners. I insisted to talk to the owner and later he called and told me, times have changed since you worked on cars. Now we have to research the parts and hunt them down. This all takes time. That is complete crap! They call NAPA and say, we need an oil filter mount for an 08 VW EOS with 2.0 liter turbo and NAPA delivers it. I can't understand how they can sleep at night. That is a blatant rip off! It should be illegal. Since I agreed to the $1800 estimate I don't have a leg to stand on. I worked in a car repair shop when I was younger. We did honest work in an industry where everyone thinks you trying to rip them off. We never did anything that didnt need to be done. We didn't install parts just to make more money and we sure as hell never charged more than the list price! Stay away from Buckley's! I heard there were two brothers that started it. One is a real good guy and one is a jerk. The good brother retired and the jerk with the arrogant son is now running the place. That's what people around town are saying anyway. Stay away! read more

The team was responsive - they let me know when the vehicle arrived, exactly what the problems were, and they gave me options. They finished the work quickly and it was quality. Professional Integrity I'm not really sure what more needs to be said, but If you are within 100 miles of Buckley's Auto Care, don't even think about going somewhere else for service. I only interacted with one of their Client Care Specialist, Anthony Dorazio, but if the other employees are half as good, Buckley's is doing something right! My Miata broke down and left me stranded on I95. It was pure luck that I had it towed to Buckley's because I'm sure someone else would have taken advantage of my situation. Instead the technician(s) were obviously experienced professionals. They tracked down the problem in a very reasonable amount of time and I was able to pick up my car the following morning and get underway! My heartfelt thanks to the entire crew! read more

Tired of the games! Screwed me and sold me a jeep with a badly damaged engine . I Bought a jeep from here and it seams the mechanic at buckley will only fix the problems that you find.then says he'll "go through it" and does not fix anything buyer beware. My check engine light came on intermittently, so I brought my car in because the warranty on my car would be accepted here. Buckley's held my car for 4 days and charged me $400 to tell me that the warranty wouldn't cover it, I just need to use a higher octane gasoline, and that they "flushed the system out". The check engine light came back on again the next day, so I took it to the dealership. They showed me the error code "intake cam solenoid activation" and replaced a solenoid valve in under an hour for free because my car was under warranty. Long story short: I gave them $400 for no reason and they don't seem to know what they are doing. read more

We've been taking our cars to Buckley's for the past 7 years. They keep us well maintained and always let me know about upcoming maintenance needs before something goes haywire. They're honest and reliable and will tell you straight out if an issue is worth fixing based on your car's age and history. As a busy rideshare driver, they've had my back when I broke down and needed a flat fixed quickly, or for major repairs. One of my cars broke down 50 miles from home... turned out that a previous owner did a "hack job" that tore up the wiring while installing a remote starter. Anthony got me an auto electrician to straighten it all out good as new. My neighbor owns that car now and it still runs great ~5 years later. My main ride is going on 160k miles now without any issue thanks to these guys. read more

Awesome service. I love the text message video updates! That's really awesome. Also loved the consistent communication with the issue. Lastly I greatly appreciated them delivering the vehicle back to my home. I didn't really like that they charged 150 for the diagnostic test and didn't take it off the bill after they did the service. In my experience, typically shops will charge for the diagnostic only if they don't do the service. Overall I was happy, but I'd probably push next time to have that waived or discounted. read more

In April, a drivetrain malfunction asserted in my BMW. The code soon cleared, but I needed an oil change & decided to find a mechanic. Buckley's had good reviews, so I went in, described the situation & informed them about the now-cleared code. I told them to proceed with the oil change & if they were able to identify the drivetrain malfunction to let me know, otherwise not to worry about the code. The next day, they called & said the oil change was done & they had diagnosed the drivetrain malfunction as a wastegate actuator deviation. When I came in, they gave me a $398 bill. I ask how I was getting charged so much for an oil change, & the rep stated $197 was for a "Level 2 system analysis" with another $191 of charges in parts. The parts, he said, were part of a standard kit w/an Oil Filter ($32), a Cabin Air Filter ($67), & an Air Filter ($45). He said it was normal to do these with an oil change. Also, I stated I was unfamiliar with a "waste gate actuator", so the rep condescendingly described a turbo wastegate. The recommendation was a wastegate actuator replacement & a computer relearn & the cost would be around $900 (on top of the $398). I told them I would take their advice under consideration. Reluctantly, I paid the $398. I am active duty military & the next week I left on a 3 month temporary assignment. After returning in July, the car's code reasserted & it went into limp mode. I decided to take Buckley's advice. I let the rep (Scott) know I'd like the wastegate actuator replaced per their recommendation. I dropped the car off. A few days later, Scott stated they had done the replacement, but it hadn't fixed the problem. He said the car would now need a full turbo replacement, but there was good news, the work they just performed only cost me around $750 ($526 for labor), not $900. He said they would've had to do the wastegate actuator anyway with a complete turbo replacement, so really I'm not out much money. Perplexed, I told him not to replace the turbo; I'd pick the car up & consider my options. Back at the shop, I ask a different Buckley's rep (Anthony, he was a really nice guy actually) what the cost of the turbo would be. He said he'd take my email address & get back to me. Reluctantly again, I paid $748. I didn't hear anything from Buckley's over the next week, so I called, again requesting the estimate. They said they'd email it right over, but I received no correspondence. Busy with work, I gave it another few weeks & called again at the end of July. The rep (Anthony) stated he'd email the estimate (and yes I checked my junk folder). Again, nothing. I thought about calling & complaining, but since I'd been ignored 3 times already, I decided to take my business elsewhere. To clarify, I'd basically given them $1147.03 for an oil change since nothing was fixed. Finally, on 6 August, Scott emailed me, apologized for the delay and said their estimate for the cost of the turbo replacement (parts+labor) was around $2300. At this point, I cut my losses and contacted another BMW mechanic. I described the situation to the new mechanic & ask his estimate for a turbo replacement. $1500 for a complete turbocharger replacement (BMW parts plus labor). I also ask his thoughts on Buckley's initial recommendation to replace the wastegate actuator. He said it was peculiar, but since it was only a "$150 fix" maybe it would've been worth a shot. I told him what Buckley's charged me ($750) & he was stunned...his quote was, "I wish I could charge those prices." Either way, the new mechanic was honest, he replaced the turbo for $1500 & now the car is running fine. Here are my issues w/ Buckley's: * $197.33 for a "level 2 system analysis" that wasn't specifically requested (on top of $191.20 for "parts" for an oil change). * The rep I dealt with in April was condescending when I inquired about the fees & the wastegate(may have been the manager...Greg maybe?) * They misdiagnosed the turbo issue. I guess the "level 2 system analysis" I didn't order failed to serve its purpose. * Upon realizing they had improperly diagnosed the turbo issue, they made no attempt to remove any of the $750 in charges for the failed waste gate actuator replacement. * I had to request an estimate on the complete turbo replacement 3 times, & it took almost a month to get that information. One positive note, both Anthony & Scott were very professional each time I dealt with them. So, bad on me for allowing myself to be taken advantage of. But bad on Buckley's for poor business practices. Overall, I gave this business $1147.03 for an oil change (which I requested), an air filter & Cabin Air Filter (didn't request), a level 2 system analysis (didn't request), & a wastegate actuator replacement (that didn't fix anything). Bottom line, I do not recommend Buckley's Auto Care. I can't do anything about the money I've given them, but hopefully this review will save someone else some time and hard-earned money. read more

We've been taking our cars here for a couple of years now and have always been happy with them. They're very nice guys. However, today we took one of our cars to Buckley's and was informed that we needed to replace a part because it couldn't be fixed. I then called the dealer to get info on that part, as well as pricing, and was informed that chances are more than not that it could be fixed. The price I was quoted from the dealer to replace the part, including labor, totaled $119. Buckley's wanted about $186! They jacked the prices up for the parts that much., and their labor was $2 less than the dealership's. Sorry, but in this economy, trying to hose those who have been loyal for 2 years is inexcusable. And to know that a dealer is cheaper is beyond ridiculous. Anyway, it ended up costing $39.72 at the dealership because it could, in fact, be fixed. read more

When my daughter was born 3 weeks earlier than expected, we were left with an uninstalled car seat that we needed to take care of before we were comfortable taking her home from the hospital. Called Buckley's the day that we needed the seat inspected, and after telling them of the situation they not only fit us in for the day, but did a great job making my husband feel confident about the car seat and installation. There was some major rust damage and Buckley's was great in diagnosing the issue and assessing options for me. I had to address everything remotely and the manager Anthony was extremely responsive and super helpful. These guys are trustworthy and honest. Buckley's performed a Private Party Inspection on a used car I was considering buying. They responded to a request for an appointment during a weekend and had the car in and out of their shop by noon on a Monday, with their report in my email. This was one of the all time best service results I have ever experienced. Their report helped me make a positive decision on the purchase and the major items on the car that needed attention were negotiated into the deal for repair by the seller. I had a great experience at Buckley's today! Greg took my call inquiring about having them inspect my daughter's car seat for safety. He got me in that day, and when I arrived, he personally greeted me with a smile. Steve took my car right away, and inspected and tightened the car seat. He also spent about 10 minutes sharing different tips and tricks to keep my daughter safe while we are in the car. He was extremely knowledgable, and the entire experience filled me with confidence. Excellent experience which can be a difficult thing to say when dealing with automotive repairs. Amazing communication and updates. Buckley's picked up my car, provided a loaner when they needed the car for the evening to continue to repair. They noticed my car registration was overdue and added that to the repairs - which was amazing. I had been putting that off (clearly) and they took care of it for me! Car is driving wonderfully - no more pulsing brakes and the heat is working on both sides of the car. Would absolutely recommend and will use again in the event I need to have any additional car repairs or repairs on another vehicle. read more
