I have been a patient at Buckhead Smiles for over 10 years, which makes this experience especially disappointing. Over the last couple of years, there have been repeated and ongoing billing problems that have made continuing my dental care intolerable. Despite having dental insurance, the office has consistently failed to properly code procedures after my visits. I am routinely given estimates that later turn out to be incorrect, and I then receive unexpected bills weeks or months later due to their billing errors. This has happened multiple times. The most recent situation is the most concerning. I was again provided an incorrect estimate. Staff members (Front Desk Rep Roz, management team, Quaseemah Cain and Simone Anderson) convinced me to sign up for Sunbit to "settle" my balance. It was not clearly disclosed that Sunbit functions as a third-party financing/loan company. I am now in a situation where I appear to owe both Buckhead Smiles and Sunbit. To make matters worse, when I disputed the balance with Sunbit, I was told that Buckhead Smiles reported I received services on the day I signed up for Sunbit -- which is not related to the outstanding balance being disputed. This information is inaccurate and has only complicated the situation further. I have made multiple attempts to contact the office to resolve this issue, and no one has returned my calls. Earlier, I was contacted and offered a resolution to settle for half the amount owed, but instead of honoring that path, I was redirected into the Sunbit agreement, which has now left me in a worse position. After a decade as a loyal patient, this lack of transparency, poor billing practices, and failure to communicate is unacceptable. I would strongly caution others to carefully review all estimates, billing codes, and financing options before agreeing to treatment or payment plans at this office. read more

By far the worst experience I've had trying to get a consultation for Invisalign. Let me start by saying the staff were very nice and welcoming, but what I thought was a free consultation turned out not to be. Every other office I've been to offered a complimentary Invisalign consult, so I was surprised when I learned they are billing my insurance for X rays. And before they respond that it's common to charge, no it is not. Check any respectable orthodontist's website in Atlanta and you'll see that Invisalign consultations are clearly listed as free. It's disappointing that this wasn't clearly explained before my appointment. Maybe it's partly my fault for assuming, but better communication upfront would have saved everyone's time. read more

This is the most unprofessional dental practice and now I see that even one of their dentist has been suspended. I am currently communicating with the Dental Board of Georgia regarding my complaints they have owed me money that should have been refunded back in Februar. I paid 29 thousand for imp and this journey started last year in February and here we are no implants and no money. The regional office mana is extremely unprofessional and each time I inquire about my money I only get excuses and that it's going to be processed. This clinic is the worst and if I can save someone else the heartache of dealin with this clinic that is my ultimate goal. The reviews are real take your business elsewhere if you value customer service and appreciation, and know the Management staff especially Que don't waste your time this clinic doesn't in any way value customer. Dr Portia Grayson and her team are the best! I've been seeing her for almost 20 years. When my 15 yo son broke his front tooth in half and needed an emergency repair, she was able to do it the next day. She & her staff stayed late to get it done - he had a final exam (oral presentation) the next day at school & was too self conscious to go looking the way he did. The crown looks so perfect! You can't even tell it's not his real tooth! He crushed his presentation! She is amazing, incredibly talented & such a kind & compassionate dentist! Love her! Extremely long wait times even when called to the back (over 3 hours), I've requested to see the same dentist, each time I was given someone different, very passive aggressive. What they can bill you for in my opinion is what matters to them, not the patient. They quoted me a price when I went they verified my insurance would cover "not the first time I did the procedure with them". I left owing a zero balance even have my receipt. Come to find out they never called my insurance, sent me to collections & later advised me it was on me to verify not them. So what was supposed to be a $200.00 visit has not turned into $700. Where do I begin trouble getting front desk on phone they roll phones over to their locations when no one can answer. Front desk turnover high and they have truly had some different folks who should not have been working with the public. But I was appalled when I cracked my crown and just needed to have new crown the Asian doctor told me I needed a route canal and took X-ray showing me something. My tooth was not in pain he wanted to send me to Endodontist he wanted thousands of dollars then I was supposed to come back to him spend another couple of thousand for the crown. Well he was a liar and tried to rip me off I went to 2 other dentist let them review X-ray no root canal was necessary. I would have spent $4000 over cracked crown. They are scammers, I have Humana dental insurance, one of crowns was loose, Dr McGowan added some glue, they charged me $240 for a little bot of glue, then they lied to my insurance and said that they did 2 complete crowns on 2 teeth. they submitted to my insurance and it took a year and calling at least 20 times, they finally dropped my portion of a crown that they did not do, on my last visit, Dr Harris said I need a crown on tooth # 1 which happens to be my wisdom tooth! I would give a zero if I could. When you make an appointment, ensure it's two hours before you actually need your service to start because that's when you'll actually be treated. Even going in at 7am, I was told the doctor was running behind so booking first thing is no guarantee of timely service. I went in for a filling today and waited for 90 minutes before my appointment began. But don't fret, I was numb for about half that time because they took me back to the chair to wait there rather than the lobby where I'd have the option to leave and numbed me 30 minutes before the dentist found time for my appointment. Surprise surprise, I had to be numbed again when they finally began working on a procedure that should have been started when I came in for my appointment an hour and a half prior. Today after my appointment, I was told that I owed an additional nearly $200 from an appointment over a month and a half ago. They said this was because the claim just came in from my insurance company, which I confirmed on my account. I contacted my insurance company, who stated that what they cover is available on my plan that the office has access to so I could have had the cheaper option done and had the procedure appropriately covered appropriately. At best, they did not confirm the procedure would be covered fully and I am hopeful this was just an unlucky oversight. Instead, the more expensive one with less coverage was pursued with no chance for me to make a decision on what route to go. I wasn't given an option of services. I was told "this is what we're doing". Somehow their mistake is my problem and their explanation is basically a "shrug your estimate is just a guess it means nothing" indifference to giving patients the correct bills or the ability to choose the level of service they can afford so that they can, I don't know, plan their finances correctly. Absolutely insane to have this additional bill dropped on me through no fault of my own with zero sympathy or care except when I'll be paying. I'm now expecting to get these "corrections" for the foreseeable future. I was told this happens all the time and yet have never encountered this until coming to this practice. Lack of timely service, lack of patient quality care and lack of billing capabilities can only lead me to believe this place is focused on taking money from patients coming to them for their dental needs. The hygienists and assistants are amazing and you can tell their empathy and discomfort having to apologize for the regular long waiting periods. I would love for them to have more support because they do seem to care about the people in the chair. People already fear going to the dentist for a variety of reasons. This practice only confirms those fears that patient-centered care doesn't exist in this field. read more

My experience at this location was the worst that I have ever had at a dental facility. The Dentist was Joseph Atterdo. I suffered unnecessary pain and anguish. I did not complete my procedure because of the poor treatment that I received. I will never ever recommend this facility. To add insult to injury, they had a collection agency come for me. The bill was paid by a Financial Agency up front. I had to contact the collection agency. Once I did that and explained when and how my bill was paid, I heard nothing more from them. I would be willing to bet the same patients wished there was a 0 stars option, because that's what this place deserves. This review is for a dental crown that they put on my tooth about 4-5 years ago. The crown fell out after about a year, and I went back there to have them put it back on. Then it fell out again, and the second time I went back, they told me it was probably because I was grinding my teeth at night, and suggested I get a mouth guard for $180 (out of pocket, after insurance). Well, I wore the guard, and guess what? The crown fell out AGAIN several months after that. I finally went to a legit dentist office and to my surprise, I found out that the original crown from Buckhead Smile Center was a temporary one. Made of cheap resin material, and was never meant to be permanent. I had seen 3 different dentists during my time of going back there, none of them ever communicated this to me at all, never at any point in those years that it kept falling out. They never told me why a temporary crown was used in my situation, they were actually all quite puzzled as to why it was falling out at all. Now I have a brand new one that is made of real porcelain from a real dentist, a stronger and much more durable material. The best part is my current dentist was very upfront about the cost of everything, and never tried to sell me on anything I didn't need. I recall them telling me I had several cavities after my first visit, but then just dropped it and never brought that issue up again after that. DO NOT go here. Short version: They scratched my face and claimed not to see it and also wrecked the inside of my cheek. My initial exam went fine but I had a terrible experience when I came back for my fillings. Dr. Grayson was pretty nice overall and explained everything that she was going to do. But when it came to performing the procedure, she was extremely rough - quite literally shoving cotton into the sides of my cheek and being really harsh on my mouth in general. I'm no stranger to dentists (having had 8 cavities and three crowns done in Texas in 2015) so I know I'm not being particularly sensitive here. I understand that she needs to work fast to see a large patient load but that's no excuse for her lack of consideration for what a patient physically feels in the chair. She also somehow managed to scratch my face in the process and when I told the check out person Jacqueline she told me that she couldn't see it. She also told me that it "can happen, ya know?" Apparently this can happen with a retractor. Which was not something that was even used on me in this visit. When a patient raises a concern, do not invalidate them. The dental assistant Miriam also jabbed me in the face with a scaler but at least she apologized. And I woke up this morning with the entire inside of my right cheek in pain, only to find that it's completely white and raw from the cotton. I understand that that's part of the risk of the procedure but I've never had a dentist be so careless and inconsiderate. They do a fine job in dentistry, I suppose. But I left with more collateral damage than necessary. read more

This office owes me $37.00 in Insurance overpayment. I tried for over 6 months now to resolve this issue. However, I was told all kind of stories explaining me why I can't get my refund back. Be aware and check your insurance statements. I was also directed to my dental surgeon who did my jaw surgery and implant about 20 years ago, because their x-rays were showing some darkness around my surgical area and implant. STAY AWAY!!!!!! I went to this place to have my teeth cleaned and left with only having had XRays done. Why? The hygenist said he had another patient to see. WTH????? I'm a patient too!!!!!! I'm super bummed because I thought I'd found a great dentist. The actual medical side of things here was good. But months later I'm getting blindsided by a massive bill because they entered the wrong insurance provider for me and filed claims to an insurance company I don't use/never have used. I was disappointed they didn't let me know the insurance wasn't working, but mistakes happen and I was ready to get it sorted out and continue seeing my dentist here. Then I had to call 2 times a day for 3 days in a row to finally reach someone who would talk with me to get my provider info correctly entered in their system. I still don't know if it's fixed because they never called back to confirm coverage was verified. Overall, I experienced a basic admin error compounded by terrible communication, resulting in a waste of everyone's time. If they don't have time to respond to a customer stuck with a 1K bill for their error, they're probably very understaffed. Back to the dentist drawing board, I guess. read more

If I could give a 0, I would. I don't recommend them and will never go back. I recently got a cleaning. At first, I thought the technician did a "thorough" job. But in the following days I realized that she had actually used a drill tool and drilled away my teeth surface and created spaces between my front bottom teeth and others in the back, teeth leading to air, food and drink sensitivity that I never experienced prior to the "cleaning." Also, I now have tooth pain I didn't have prior to the "cleaning" and food is now packing in spaces and pockets created by the drill tool. My gums are irritated and my teeth hurt. I requested my prior x-rays and am consulting with another dentist and an attorney. read more

The Buckhead Smile Center offers very poor customer service and has terrible billing practices. It has taken over one year to clear up my bill. I was given inconsistent and incorrect information about my balance. At times, I was told that I do not have a balance but would continue to receive bills. This happens because the communication between the main office and the call center is poor. When you call the office line, you don't know whether you're speaking to a call center rep or someone at the office. It should not be this complicated to figure out whether you have a balance. I was never given an option to make my payment online. It is very difficult to catch someone over the phone in order to make payments. It shouldn't be this hard. I paid my balance in full but they continue to send me notices stating that I have an outstanding balance, despite e-mail and verbal confirmation of no balance. I know these are difficult times. I would have been willing to overlook these issues if they demonstrated any professionalism or showed any semblance of respect for customers. read more

He's guided me from a wisdom teeth extraction through crowns and changing fillings to our ultimate goal of braces--in this case, Invisalign, which I'm starting my fourth month of. One of the worst dentists I have ever been to. I had to come in a few times within a 6 month period to have multiple cavities filled. Often they would numb me with Novocaine and then disappear for a long period of time then come back to me, by which time the numbing had worn off a bit. I never felt fully numb at this dentist. They put in the fillings the first time and I left, noticing pain in my tooth after getting home. The next time I went in, I told them about the pain. The dentist shaved my tooth down a little bit, saying that the bite was off and that can sometimes cause pain. While doing this, she cut my lip with the grinding tool. The next time I went in, I said that the pain was still there. The dentist numbed me for the fillings she was doing that day, left me in the chair for over an hour, came back to do the fillings - which hurt because the Novocain had begun to ware off. I raised my hand and she numbed me again, this time injecting me about 10 different times, and then leaving me in the chair while she disappeared for another 20 minutes. After the fillings were done, she went to shave down that same hurting tooth again with no numbing agent. This time when she started shaving, the tooth hurt extremely bad. I told her to stop doing that because obviously continuing to shave it down was NOT working. It was fairly obvious at this point that I needed something more done, like a root canal, which she seemed to completely disregard. I left that day and had an extremely bad toothache for a few days before calling an emergency dentist. I went to the other dentist office. They told me that the white fillings that had been used at Buckhead Smile Center had a side effect of causing root damage, it was determined that I needed a root canal on that tooth, AND I was told that my teeth cleaning that had been done just a month before at Buckhead Smile Center was done by an incompetent hygienist (I had to get a deep cleaning to make up for the awful cleaning that had been done - she had scraped plaque above the gums, breaking off plaque below the gums, causing the gums to grow back over the plaque). Needless to say, I will not be returning to Buckhead Smile Center. Some of the front desk staff are nice and some are incredibly rude. They don't listen to anything. The hygienists are obviously incompetent and not trained. The dentist, while nice, quite frankly did not do a good job at all on anything. I also wish I could have known the side effects of the fillings she was putting in. I wouldn't have agreed to those fillings at all. This place is terrible. Wish I could give 0 stars. Don't go here. Unethical. They will recommend services you will not need, tell you they spoke with your insurance and give you a low price for it. Then a month later you will get the full bill and an explanation that your insurance does not cover it. When you try to call back with the typical "WTF", they will tell you don't worry, it is taken care of, right up until they send you to collections. Cannot be trusted. Nice staff and nice office, but ultimately is a scam set up to find ways of separating fools with their money. Well done, Buckhead Smile, I really thought I could trust you, but you revealed to me that I was a fool and I paid a lot of money for it. If you are reading this and on the fence, do not be a fool. Do not go here. If you are planning on going here, or already scheduled a visit and cannot get out, it may be worth your money to hire a lawyer to go with you just to make sure you are not getting scammed. At the end of the day, the $400-$600 per hour lawyer fee will probably be less than the final bill you receive in the mail from Buckhead Smile. I was very disappointed with my last appointment to Buckhead Smile Center (which will be my last ever). I had been going there for over a year with no real cause for concern until my last appointment. They stated that I was grinding my teeth and needed to have 8 filings. As someone in their early 20s who has always gone to the dentist twice a year and brushes and flosses regularly, I was caught off guard. They suggested a mouthguard and 8 filings. I went ahead and paid for the mouthguard, but after receiving it, I still had to pay more than what Buckhead Smile Center estimated. I have two insurance policies I am covered under and I had to pay much more than I should have for a mouthguard. I believe I was recommended a mouthguard that they knew would not be covered by most insurance policies. I also went to get a second opinion on my filings and the dentist stated that I only had two areas of concern that could be fixed by simple procedure. Buckhead Smile Center will not be getting my business and I do not recommend it to anyone. I felt like they attempted to get as much money out of me as they could and they did not make recommendations that were beneficial to me. read more

I was in need of a new dentist when my insurance changed and this happened to be one that came up on a search on the Blue Cross site. I've seen Dr. McGowan a couple times now and she is definitely my favorite dentist. She will go over the cost of everything before treating you to make sure you know what your insurance covers and what you pay. She is extremely accommodating with your schedule and just a pleasant person even for my 7am appointments. That's one huge benefit of this location, you can be in and out at 7am and not miss any work. If you're in the area and need a new or nicer dentist, definitely give her a call! read more

Okay, so maybe I need to pull a Wendy Williams and eat some crow. My first review described their follow-up practices as "pushy." Months (read: years) later I finally had the deep clean that they've been recommending since at least 2013 and I absolutely needed it. I actually regret not having it done sooner because it wasn't an attempt by them to upsell me on a service. It only took an hour and my hygienist was thorough and got all of the plaque out from under my gums. I thought a little bleeding when I flossed was normal. After the deep clean it doesn't happen and now I realize it was abnormal. Sorry for making this part review and part epiphany, but I hope my point is understood. Thank you to Buckhead Smile Center for sticking with me and pushing me to get this done. It really was in my best interest. One of my worst dental experience. I was not pleased by the teeth cleaning nor fillings. I was so confident that I chose the best dentist in town and since I'm new I went by depending on reviews. Unfortunately my experience with 4 fillings and 2 crowns was not pleasant! 2 of my small fillings were ok! But the two main ones I'm still suffering from. Now I have to go somewhere else to fix the issue and of course pay more money! Never again. They charge top dollar for mediocre work. Hit with miscellaneous fees, and was not told until the bill came. Was also hit with interest charges, despite them saying I wouldnt be.
