I was about to make it to work a little too early today... but then I spotted Buckethead BBQ at the back of the Ace Hardware parking lot. Perfect location because I had time to see them, and decide if I was going to make a stop. I pulled up to the massive set up. The big truck with 2 smokers in back... it was a bbq lovers dream to have a set up like this.. not too mention this is the only one of its kind built like this. I parked close and skipped past the menu and went straight to the man in charge today. This is where I met Ash. I'm not sure how long he was here, but he was busy. In fact, I hope I wasn't crowding him by watching him slice the brisket, making sandwiches, cutting ribs... it was satisfying to watch. After he finished that order, I mentioned that I remembered seeing Buckethead BBQ in local competitions. They have a location in Roseville that they do the cooking out of and you can call ahead, order online, and even show up. It's first come first serve, so get there early! I went with a brisket sandwich (bc I saw it had a good amount of meat on it when I watched him make one) and 3 ribs with a side of their corn salad. He was fast and added a ramekin of their bbq sauce in the box. I jammed home to enjoy a few bites before heading to work. The ribs... are by far some of the best I've ever had! In fact, I'm so disappointed in myself that I only got 3! If you know me, I am a rib connoisseur... and let's just say you are missing out if you don't make a stop at Buckethead BBQ. Fantastic fkn bark. Good smoke ring. Tender as hell, with just the right pull from the bone and perfect seasoning! I like that they put a good amount of meat on the brisket sandwich. Ash topped it with delicious coleslaw and a good drizzle of bbq sauce. I first pulled a slice of brisket out of the sandwich and played with my meat. Yes, I played with my meat. I did the test. It was flexible and pulled apart so easily. Super tender and had a good amount of fat on it... not too much. That's when I started dunking into one of the best BBQ sauces I have ever tried. It was sweet and savory. You can really taste the fruitiness in it, which is my favorite kind of sauce. Smokey... savory... and sweet. I had to force myself to stop eating the sandwich... knowing I was full, but my stomach hadn't registered it yet... plus, the thought of enjoying the rest of my sandwich tomorrow kept me going. Needless to say, I was late to work bc I was indulging in ribs and my brisket sandwich. I'm looking forward to finishing it tomorrow if my daughter doesn't get to it first! read more

I'm not sure how I missed BHBBQ before today, but I fully intend to become a regular. Finding great barbecue this close to home is exciting, and I just have to keep an eye on my weight! Barbecued meats are somewhat difficult to review because there are many different regional styles and ways the meats can be presented. Many folks love their ribs to be "fall-off-the-bone", but as a KCBS certified barbecue judge, I can tell you that style is not considered competition-worthy. Some like their brisket tender but lean; others find the fatty pieces to be the most flavorful. What I can tell you for sure is that if I had come across the ribs, brisket, and chicken that I had the pleasure of eating today at an official KCBS competition, I would have given top scores to all three. Excellent barbecue, all with the perfect amount of smoky goodness and tenderness. I had the pleasure of meeting pitmaster/owner Dave and his partner Ash. Really nice gentlemen who are deservedly proud of the top-notch barbecue they are serving. They are happy to answer any questions you might have, and they definitely do know their barbecue. Service with a smile makes for a fun experience. One of my favorite kinds of discoveries in restaurants is finding a place that, from the outside, doesn't necessarily promise much. Then you decide to give it a try, and WOW, it turns out to be great. And that's what you will find with BHBBQ. It's a simple stand with an awning, sitting at the very back of a large Raley's parking lot (and easy to miss if you don't know where to look), and from the outside it just doesn't look like it will be special. But BHBBQ is very special, and that is a lot of what makes this barbecue such a treat. One cautionary note: I just happened to find BHBBQ on Instagram yesterday and saw that they were going to be nearby today. They do travel, and so before you go hunting for it, be sure you know where they'll be. They announce their schedules on Instagram, Facebook, and on their website. They also have a phone number. But this one is definitely worth the search if you're into really excellent barbecue. We had the ribs, brisket, chicken, hot links, beans, and mac & cheese. Everything was top-notch. Picked up some food at their Raleys parking lot pop-up. The best thing they had was the corn salad which was basically elote. I do think the ribs were tender and had some flavor. Had a brisket plate at a local brewery in Auburn. The brisket was drool worthy, I've had dreams about the brisket, It was so good. My review for five stars is mainly for the brisket. For sides, we chose macaroni, the gentleman said it was very popular, I found it to be barely edible, kraft would been better. The other side I got was the Elote, it was so good!! the Elote made up for the macaroni. The service was very fast and friendly, the food truck you could watch them making it, and it looked very clean. I will follow them to their next location. read more

Follow them for some of the best EVER barbecue in Placer County! Buckethead BBQ isn't a traditional brick and mortar operation, as they operate out of a custom-built trailer, specifically designed for mobile barbecue, they call "The Rig," so when you're in the mood for superior barbecue, you need to check their website, or their social media to see where they'll be setting up shop. Today's menu was posted outside the order counter. The menu varies slightly depending on the event, and what meat the restaurant has on hand. From the "Combo Plate" section of the menu, I went with "3 Meats," which included two sides. My choices of meat included brisket, pulled pork and tri tip, and sides were "Dave's Famous Baked Beans," and "Southern Slaw." Chef Dave included a cup of extra barbecue sauce on the side. Brisket. Such an interesting cut of meat, as it tends to be tough, hard to work with, and takes many hours of preparation and smoking to create a perfect product. Chef Dave and his team nailed the brisket, as it was juicy, tender, perfectly pink/slightly brown on the inside, with a beautiful, slightly crusty smoke cap on the outside. Ah... the pulled pork, which would make any Carolina "foodie" proud to enjoy and embrace. The pork was seasoned, marinated, tender, juicy, with a touch of the delicious smoke from the oak and almond wood, shredded, and topped with Buckethead's tangy barbecue sauce. Such amazing tri tip! Like the brisket, it was smoked to perfection, medium to dark pink on the inside, with a perfect, slightly crusty smoke cap on the outside. If you like your tri tip tender, you've come to the right place, so forget your knife, as Dave's tri tip was fork tender. You simply slice off a piece of the meat, dip it into the barbecue sauce - if that's your thing - and enjoy. You'd have to look a long way in Placer County to find a better tri tip. Dave's "Famous Baked Beans" worked out to be famously good, as they were tender, but with just the right amount of firmness, and served in a thick, slightly sweet sauce, where the brown sugar stood out. I'll enjoy these beans with any meal! Southern Slaw... may I say it again? Southern Slaw. I could eat this all day, everyday at every meal, as it was that good. I'm a HUGE fan of coleslaw and this was some of the best that I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy during my 73 trips around the sun. Two years later, and they've only gotten better. Ordered their pulled pork, brisket, and chicken. Everything was NEXT LEVEL. So many barbecue joints put all of their efforts into making sure that the meat is tender (which is important), but neglect to ensure that the meat is properly smoked. It's almost like they have a choice to make, either make sure the meat has the proper texture, or make sure it has the smokiness that true Texas barbecue requires. I don't know why so many places can't seem to get both right. Buckethead has elevated this approach to an art form. Every bite is not just tender and delicious, but also has the perfect amount of smoke. Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, chicken...it's all delicious and smoked to perfection. Food in the Hood - WestPark Wednesday [Roseville] Saw Buckethead BBQ on the food truck schedule for the first time during WestPark Wednesday so we decided to stop by. We were looking for a food truck but it was actually a... um, ah... a custom designed trailer? Well, it was a league of its own because I've never seen anything like it... a restaurant on wheels. We arrived an hour before the event ended, which started at 4:30p... in our case the early bird gets the brisket at Buckethead because they ran out quickly. boo! We chose the 2-meat combo plate (pulled pork and honey chipotle chicken) which came with 2 sides... we chose their macaroni salad and Dave's Famous baked beans. We helped ourselves with apricot, mild, or hot condiments at the sauce station. Thank you because I don't do too well with spicy foods. The meat were delicious, moist, tender, and full of flavor. I also enjoyed the sides. The one combo plate we ordered fed both me and my hubby... generous portions. Customer service was exceptional. If they come back on WestPark Wednesday again... I have been wanting to try this bbq truck for a while. I saw today they were set up in the Raleys parking lot on Woodcreek so I stopped by. They have a menu board set up by the truck. I wish I captured a picture of it because what they charge you is not what they advertised. I got a brisket sandwich combo with half Mac and cheese and half baked beans priced at $21 and my dad got a chicken chipotle sandwich ala cart priced $15. When it came time to pay it was $48 dollars. . We questioned it and the guy serving us said oh yah the prices went up and proceeded to tell us the prices he's pays for all his meat. Like seriously why would you false advertise prices. Change your board. I wish we cancelled our order but we went ahead and paid. The food we got would be worth $30 at best. The Mac and cheese was disgusting. Actually just flavorless noodles. The beans are the same as opening a can of Bush's beans. The chicken sandwich was decent its advertised as a 1/3 lb but it's a very small definitely not 1/3lb. . The positive is the brisket tasted good. We were at moonraker to enjoy a couple beers on our way up the mtn. By happenstance buckethead was the food truck of the day at moonraker. I wanted to grab a sandwich. I should have been skeptical when there were no prices on the menu, however I asked for the Tri tip sandwich and when she rang me up The price which was over $20 I thought maybe she heard me wrong and thought I ordered two. I realized quickly this was not the case. While the meat tasted good, at 1/3lb advertised for a sandwich this equates to $60 a lb for Tri tip which is ridiculous, This is a la carte by the way. I understand that things cost more now but I feel this is a gouge and unjustified. I will never again buy from a menu that has no price. Lesson learned, if you see a menu without a price, run run run...... read more

The food was good. I'm giving one star because I was extremely offended by the comments a male staff member made to me and my husband. While we were ordering he made several sexist comments. He crescendoed my suggestions on what my husband should get with sarky one liners, "I like how she's ordering for you." "Now put this on your credit card."
