So I decided to take the plunge & cut almost 20yrs worth of long hair (layers)! I must admit that I hesitated for about a year in doing so because I was afraid of not knowing or having a great stylist in the area (I'm from NY & we have them everywhere)! However, LUCKILY I found a fellow VRE rider who had the cutest super short hair style & this is how I ended up @ Bubbles with LUCY. As soon as I got there I showed her a picture of how & what I wanted & told her that if she felt confident/comfortable of achieving that look to go for it... Otherwise to plz be honest & just don't do it! But very certain she said YES I can do it & I'm sure it'll suit you... An hour later or so as soon as she was done and I got to see the final results, I fell in-love with my new look! Best part is that it was such an inexpensive makeover that I would do it all over again (the hubby now calls me his new mistress & even offered to pay for future salon visits :) It has been a week since my new hair-due & I'm still getting a ton of compliments... I have been going to Bubbles for a few years now. The first time I went, I was a walk-in and was looking to even my highlights and get a cut. My stylist Kimi was fantastic, not only did she give me several options and answer all my questions, she knew exactly what could be done during pregnancy. I have been very pleased with the highlights, scalp massages and hair cuts. I receive many compliments on my hair style...thanks Kimi. Now almost 3 years later, she not only does my hair but my 2 year old daughters. In fact, she has been cutting her hair since she was about 7 months old (yes she did have that much hair). She is very patient and gentle with her, even when my daughter is screaming her head off. read more

I went to Bubbles to get my gray roots covered. I needed an inexpensive alternative to box coloring and Bubbles seemed to fit the bill. I called and got an appointment very easily for the time and date that I requested. Haley was my stylist, and she did great work. She asked several times if I wanted water (flavored with lemon or without), easily matched my color, and made sure to check on me while I was processing. I can't attest to Haley's cutting ability, but while I was waiting I watched her expertly cut an 8in pony tail off a very nervous man, and give him a great new look! At Bubbles, the stylists wash their own clients hair. The water pressure in their sinks is wonderful, and made me feel very clean. Haley gave me 2 shampoos and 2 conditioning's, nothing fancy. She did try to comb her fingers through my hair to get the shampoo and conditioner down to the ends, but because my hair is so course and thick, it hurt a bit. Haley left some color around the frame of my face, but in all fairness, since I dye my hair black, it's difficult to get that all off without compromising the color on the hair. My total for one color process with a rough blow dry was a very reasonable $50. Bubbles does allow tips on credit cards, but they do it like cash back. When you pay for your service, you tell the computer how much you want to tip, and they'll give you that amount in cash from the register. Then, you can either give it to your stylist directly or leave it at their station. I'll probably go back if I can't find someone to help me box color next time, and I'll definitely request Haley! read more

This is a good salon. I am new to the area and was having one of those "I need this hair cut off. RIGHT. NOW." moments. Bubbles is close to my house, had good Yelp reviews (I always come to you guys first!), and could squeeze me in almost immediately- so I gave them a whirl. The salon is big with lots of natural light. It's not upscale, but it's not low end- fits perfectly in the Stonebridge area. I was greeted when I entered, introduced to Sheila who would be taking care of me, and got down to business. I turned down a treatment Sheila offered me, because I don't want extra crap in my already super fine hair. She winced and said "You know a haircut costs $45 right? And that's ok?". Turning down a treatment isn't always because someone doesn't want to pay for it and that was a pretty laughable reaction. She did a pleasant wash and condition and cut my hair magnificently. She erred on the side of shorter (which I had requested) and blew it dry. It's so bouncy and cute! No extra styling time. Just a round brush and a hair drier- so I know I can recreate it every day! Two strange things about this visit that keep the star count from increasing. 1) the conversation/discussion/organization about lunch happened the entire time I was there. The indecisiveness of picking food and persuading friends and all that crap that annoys you with your friends is even more annoying when you're trying to relax a little and have to hear it. 2) the girls leading the lunch discussion seemed a little catty. I could be off, but whenever Sheila left (this could be the third weird thing. She left once mid-drying to "potty" and later to get money to pay for her lunch and then discuss price etc) they both found it necessary to comment about her. Those things definitely deterred from the overall experience. So 5 stars for the cut. 2 for the atmosphere. read more

Bubbles is a great salon. I have been going here since we moved here about a year ago. They tend to be a bit overpriced (in my opinion), but you get a quality upscale service/treatment. I have had several stylists, but my favorite is Nina. She is a true professional and always takes such time on her clients. Often times in a chains like Bubbles, you can feel rushed as stylists try to get from one client to another, but Nina takes her time even if she is running a little behind. The salon itself is beautifully decorated and the entire staff is always super nice to me. Jess does a wonderful job coloring, cutting and styling my hair. I was visiting friends in the Woodbridge area and was in desperate need of a haircut. I heard Bubbles was good, walked in and waited an hour to be sat when they initially said 15 minutes. My "stylist" was named Akram I believe, and from the start I knew it wasn't going to go well. I have long curly hair and always get a scissor cut but she insisted on using clippers. She did nothing I asked for and insisted on doing it her way. At the end, she was trimming my neck and made multiple cuts to the back of my neck. I was not pleased and voiced this. They still charged me $35 for a simple men's haircut. I would never recommend going here again and will stick to my typical hair stylist in Raleigh who is much more qualified. read more

I've gotten three cuts by three different stylists and this salon. Sunshine took me from very long dead hair to a nice little bob and great bangs. She is very sweet and did a great job but didnt take forever( I feel like some stylists need a minute to figure out how to handle my curly hair which wasn't the case with her). The second stylist I went to was not so great didnt listen to what I wanted and tried to bash sunshine's cut from 6 months ago. She didnt seem to realize everything had grown out and that yes it is ok to cut layers into curly hair. I left unhappy to say the least. My most recent cut and color was with Michael. Wow awesome! Great stylist did a great job helping to pick a color. The cut is absolutely perfect. Overall he is the best stylist I've ever had and I will definitely be going back. read more

So I live in DC, basic haircuts start @ $70, FML. Lucky for me, my mum lives in Woodbridge so I come to bother her often and go to Wegmans. I needed a TRIM BAD!!! I have long think dark hair that I basically wear in a bum on the top of head to keep it off my neck, out of my face and because I have a toddler, NO TIME to do my hair. So I yelped this bubbles and Hilay has the best views. Rightfully so!!! She was amazing. I was 20mins early such worked out perfect because we discussed a deep condition treatment for my ends. When I got in the chair, I tried my best to explain exactly what I want and how I didn't want the layers to round out my already fat face. :/ She explained the need for layers in the front to flow with the back and because my hair was so long, it wouldn't round my face. I was scared but I trusted her, and she didn't disappoint! She cut many layers all throughout my hair, taking off so much weight. The blow dry was also amazing. So full of body and volume. This was the first GREAT HAIR CUT since having my daughter 4yrs ago. Really felt like myself again. I will be making the 45min trip from uptown DC to Woodbridge again to bother my mum and entrust Hilay with my hair again. LOVE HER!! read more

I don't usually write any recommendations, but I feel like this is a long time coming. Mimi has styled, colored, highlighted and cut my hair for over 10 years. She has been my stylist at Bubbles Salon for the last six years. Prior to having her as my hairstylist, I used to dye my own hair. She helped me transition from black dyed hair to coloring, highlights and lowlights. Within the last year, with the COVIC pandemic issue, I decided to let my hair go gray, which was a very difficult decision for me. But, thankfully, Mimi came through for me again. She has helped me transition from coloring/highlighting my hair to now letting my hair go gray. She has a way of styling/cutting my hair so nicely that the cut compliments my gray hair. Honestly, she has made this transition as well a smooth one for me. I've been coloring my hair since I was 17 years old. I am now 64 years old. She is an excellent hairstylist and colorist. I continue to receive compliments all the time about my gray hair just as I did when she colored/highlighted it. I highly recommend her! read more

To update this review...I contacted Bubbles' customer service and spoke to a very nice, VERY apologetic woman named Crissy who made me feel a lot better. Just being heard was enough for me, but she made sure that I got a full refund for the service (including the tip I paid!) as well as an additional free service. I thought this was above and beyond and I am very happy with the level of customer service I received from her. I just went back to Bubbles last night to get a partial highlight/cut from Hilay and it was great. It's nice when a business cares enough about its clients to make things right. Have been there a bunch of times and have always gotten a good haircut. I set up an appointment with Mimi online. She gave me one of the best haircuts ever. I have long, thick hair. Usually when I ask to have my hair thinned out, stylists bring out the razor and my hair turns into a frizzy mess. Mimi was able to cut and thin my hair without a razor. She even gave me styling tips and showed me how to use a straightener correctly (all these years, I've been doing it wrong.) I will completely go back to her for my cuts from now on. Brought my 10 year old in for a trim with shampoo and blow dry and the lady taking care of her never spoke to her at all! She was not gentle with her hair and a few times I had to say something because you could see that my daughter was close to tears. Was charged $45 for that and her hair isn't even! I have been to Bubbles a couple of times now and have had different experiences; it's due to receiving service from different stylists. I believe the people who wrote negative reviews may have had the wrong stylist. Don't judge an entire salon over one bad experience/stylist! If you judge every place off of 1 bad experience, then there wouldn't be anything nice to say about anything. I can definitely say that the best stylist I have encountered so far would be Stephanie. ASK FOR STEPHANIE if you want an A+ experience. She gives you exactly what you ask for and she actually knows about hair and all of the products. If you're looking for a genuine, friendly, intellectual, and experienced stylist, go with Stephanie. I truly believe the experience lies within the stylist. If I could give zero star for this salon I would. It was my cousins engagement party and I went there asked them if they do updo and they said yeah we do. So a lady sat me down curled my hair but she could not do anything else with my hair and I was getting late for the party because it took her two hours to do just curl and her hands were shaking. My color is always perfect and I'm just as happy with the styles/ cut as I have ever been ( It always takes me a while to get used to a new cut no matter how great ). My only complaint would be the price. It makes it hard to get my hair done on the recommended schedule because of the price. I love this salon! From the moment I called to make my appointment to the very moment I left was an awesome experience. My stylish Sheila was so professional and really knew what she was doing! I totally recommend her if you are looking for any type of color change, getting highlights, or low lights. She was fabulous! They were then able to see me right away. Marta (I hope I spelled that correctly), was extremely friendly and a good listener. This bubbles totally saved the day on my wedding day. Another location cancelled my appointment with no notice and I called here in tears. They were so so friendly and reassuring and got me in ASAP. They totally stepped in with speed and saved my wedding day. With us having our wedding earlier in the day, time really mattered and I couldn't have waited for an appointment anywhere else due to time constraint. I headed straight there from the mall location, where they cancelled my appointment, and they took me in with no wait. My hair looked great and gave me the confidence I needed on my special day. The gentleman at the front desk was amazing and just incredibly comforting in my time of desperation, anxiety, and heavy tears due to the other location cancelling my appointment. His ability to reassure me and restore my confidence after a horrible interaction with the location who cancelled my appointment was phenomenal. I was a mess and he stopped me in my tracks and turned my whole mindset that my day was ruined around. Thank you so so much. This place is horrible. They do not know how to cut a guys hair. I asked for a no guard in the side with a finger width cut on top. The person could not do a no guard fade. She couldn't trim my eyebrows or shape the beard yet wanted 35 dollars to do a 1.5 guard fade and shampoo. They are the absolute worse and expensive for nothing. She said this place is for men with longer hair who want a style. I asked for a basic military cut. Would give no stars or half a star if I could. read more

Absolutely the worst hair salon I've ever been to. The first time I went I paid $100 just to come and have a different stylist fix what the first girl did to my hair. The second time same problem. Then this past time I paid $195 for a blonde ombré and came out looking not even 1% what I had showed the stylist. She did it twice in one day because she messed up so bad the first time. I was there for 6 hours. I then had to come back the next day to get it fixed to something I could actually walk outside with. I demanded a refund in which I was promised 5-7 business and it took over a month instead and this was with me calling every week asking where my money was. Terrible, terrible salon. I had an appointment on 8/15 at 9am with Megan. She did a great job! I hadn't been in to have my hair done professionally for maybe two years and was hesitant about seeing someone new but she put that all at ease. I was immediately greeted by the receptionists when I arrived and waited maybe 2 minutes til I was greeted by Megan. She sat me down, asked what I was looking to do, gave me a price and then set out to wash/condition/blow dry/ straighten and trim. She was very clear on everything she was doing and was easy to talk to. My hair came out looking smooth and feeling silky. Even after a shift running around and sweating a little at the restaurant I work at my hair still looked and smelled great. I got a ton of compliments from other servers & guests. I just moved to the area and needed my hair cut and colored. This salon was convenient to my home, so I made an appointment online with any stylist. I walked into the salon and it was very busy. Half of the clients were children, which is fine, but not my preference. I told the receptionist I had an appointment and she asked me with who. I told her it was my first time and I didn't have a specific stylist. She turned around and yelled to an older lady that I was her next client. The stylist was working on a child's hairstyle. She looked up with a perturbed look at the receptionist and said "WHAT?!? How did that happen? My next client? NO! Not mine". The receptionist either didn't hear her or ignored her. The stylist looked at me again with a frustrated look on her face. I sat down in the chair, looked around at the unorganized salon, noticed the general lack of professionalism and enthusiasm and decided to leave. A customer should not be made to feel they are an inconvenience to someone's schedule. The salon was not welcoming at all. I will continue to look elsewhere. read more

Acky is incredibly talented and amazing at what she does. I have very long thick hair which Acky highlights, cuts, and styles for me. She is very courteous, friendly, funny, and professional. When I first came to Bubbles my hair had grown out from the cute pixie cut that I am accustomed to into a shaggy half mullet. My last stylist (who I had been seeing for almost 2yrs) left his old salon without so much as a warning. I was afraid to go to anyone else, after almost 5 months of sulking around with no hair care I sucked it up and made my first appointment at Bubbles. I was told Danielle was available and I took her first open appointment. When I went in she asked me what my old stylist did with my hair, I looked at her in a "deer in the headlights" way and said "he cut it". Looking back I realize now that I should have been specific and explained what tools he used and what type of cut he gave me! We live and learn right? With such little information she took my ragged half mullet and gave me exactly what I wanted. My cute pixie cut that she somehow made even better. If you have long hair with layers, Nicole Harden is the person for you! So this is my second haircut with Nicole and I can guarantee that she's amazing. The first time I came here, I got a couple inches cut off and I was so happy with the results being that I have long hair and many layers but even with that, she didn't disappoint. I went in yesterday for curtain bangs yesterday. I kept showing the "stylist" pictures of what I wanted and kept making sure she knew what I meant when I said curtain bangs because she didn't seem to fully understand. Then she said she knew what she was doing. So I let her wash my hair then when we got back to cut it, she started to cut it like actually bangs and NOT curtain bangs and didn't even ask the length I wanted or anything. She cut it WAYYY shorter than I was wanting and it wasn't even good and looked like what would have happened if I even did it myself. Then when she was done, she was talking to my father and said "she BETTER like it" then gave me her card (I threw it away so fast I didn't check the name). I was extremely anxious, hated it, and cried in the car. So now I keep finding ways to hide it cause there isn't much else I can do and don't want people seeing it. I sooo wanted to like this salon. Everyone was so nice and I loved the feel of the place. I was even ecstatic when I did the big chop and the stylist did such an excellent job. I was prepared to keep it short for a while. That was until I went back for my first maintenance appointment. The stylist cut my hair shorter and into some funky (not in a good way) asymetrical cut that I couldn't do anything with. I didn't realize it was truly cut that way until I got in the car and tried to style it a little differently. Talk about letdown. read more

First, I must admit that I am horrified of hairstylists. I've had countless experiences that resulted in terrible haircuts and has made me never want to go to a salon again! Well... I was in desperate need of a trim and thought I'd try out Bubbles Salon in the new Potomac Town plaza in Woodbridge. I had recently moved to the area and thought I'd try again! I made my appointment and specifically asked for someone who was experienced in cutting/dealing with LONG HAIR! The employee on the phone said "certainly! i've got just the girl!" Upon arrival for my appointment, I was greeted with several smiling faces! The salon was pristine and I already had a good feeling about this! I was scheduled with Kimmy who came over and greeted me personally and provided a very in depth consultation before anything! I was still a bit nervous but let her do her thing because I got the impression she knew exactly what I wanted after the consultation! Needless to say, my hair looked absolutely PHENOMENAL when I left! She had cut it perfectly and even curled it! I was so pleased with my visit to Bubbles! I recall it being a bit on the pricey side, but for me (someone who would pay just about anything for a good haircut), it wasn't bad! This place would be getting 0 stars if it weren't for Chrissy. Her helpfulness, honesty, and understanding is the only thing keeping me coming back. Otherwise, the 3 times I have been here there's been a rude receptionist who I've had to put in her place on all three occasions. Hurtful, condescending tone just isn't going to cut it when your job is CLIENT SERVICE. And God forbid you want an estimate on what you'll be paying. The worst experience I have ever had at a salon. A lot of complaining about what they can't do with very little discussion of what they can do. I came on the recommendation of a friend and drove almost an hour to get here and left in tears twice. They ruined my hair with terrible, uneven highlights, refused to fix it the way I wanted, and said they couldn't do a refund unless their manger was in, quote: "Hopefully sometime this week."
