Anytime I felt the urge for a "trim" I would just grab my scissors and hack hack hack and when I cut off enough, all would be well with the World. Well, after the last year of using that methodology, my length got to be about where I want it...still a few inches shorter than where I ultimately want it to be but in desperate need of a serious recalibration. I contacted Lynda at Pin Curls early this afternoon on a referral from one of my dear Facebook friends. She changed her schedule to take me in one hour later. The salon was clean and orderly and offered a great view of the Occoquan river. Lynda was very kind and made me feel very comfortable. She patiently listened while I described the type of style I wanted, then she offered a few helpful suggestions. I asked her which did she recommend would look the best and we went with that. Guys just don't go to 'Salons'...they go to 'Barbers' and this was my first time back in a salon since the late 80's (and, no...I'm not kidding). Remember I'm embracing my mid-life crisis... After a thorough shampoo and rinse, I relaxed while Lynda began reshaping my melon. After a few short minutes, I started resembling a human man once again (not some type of cross bred neanderthal). Christine greeted me and gave a thorough explanation of her ideas based on the pictures I showed her, which I really appreciated. I said I thought my appointment was with Ester? She said she was not available. I asked what tier stylist Vinny was. She said tier 3. I said my appointment was with a tier 6 stylist and asked if one was available. She said no would you like to reschedule (after I had already scheduled and drove up there). I decided to just move forward with Vinny and then got a lousy haircut by someone no interpersonal skills and no interest or talent in styling hair. After a year of growing my hair out and the very first experience in a hair salon, I honestly wish I never went there. The service sucked, the stylist sucked, the whole vibe sucked meaning a bunch of nonprofessional teenagers that have zero customer service skills. So no, I would never recommend this salon (if you can even call it that).

I showed the stylist exactly what color I wanted, and they confidently said they could achieve it, but the final result looked completely different from what was promised. Not only did my hair turn out nothing like the reference photo, but the color is barely visible and looks uneven and dull. What makes this even worse is the lack of honesty and professionalism. At no point was I told that the result might be different or that my hair could not achieve the color I requested. Instead, I paid a very high price expecting professional results and left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and honestly upset. I also wasted hours of my time for something I never asked for. A professional salon should communicate clearly, manage expectations, and stand behind their work. Unfortunately, this place did none of that. The students her are still learning so expect to be at the salon for a bit longer than are regular salon. They will stop periodically to get guidance from the instructors, but over all it really was a great experience. And I paid HALF of what I would have paid at Statements Salon!
