    Taike Fried Chicken drumstick
    Samuel F.

For years I've been wanting to try Bubble Republic's Taike fried chicken and I was finally able to try it today. Their Facebook page has a photo of the fried chicken menu with options of 2, 4, 6 and 10 piece combos. The combos come with a bubble tea of your choice and you pay extra for upsizing your drink and adding toppings. The person who took my order was very friendly and I felt very comfortable when I picked up my order as the staff were following COVID protocols with a pre-set path for customers to order/pick up. I ordered the 6 piece combo with a large original milk tea with tapioca, 30% sugar and less ice. The drink was great! Strong assam tea flavor with the classic creaminess that you'd find if you were to order a milk tea in Taiwan. The tapioca also is the best of any bubble tea chain I've been to; chewy, not too sweet and complements the tea. However this review is not for the drink, but for the fried chicken. Before I ordered, I had a feeling the chicken was going to be good because I've had Bubble Republic's fried chicken/pork chop on rice dishes and I enjoy their seasoning/crispiness. The fried chicken however used a different batter and seasoning as the rice dishes, and was EXTREMELY crunchy/juicy. The chicken had a thicker batter compared to other fried chicken chains (such as Jollibee or Popeyes) and they used a gentle seasoning that wasn't as salty as fried chicken chains. The chicken was made to order and so the chicken was piping hot! Surprisingly, the chicken didn't feel too oily as well. I was also given complementary pickled daikon and carrot slices which was great addition to the meal. Overall, I enjoyed every bite of the fried chicken. It was crispy, juicy, made to order and had a flavorful seasoning unique to Bubble Republic. Next time, I would ask if there's a spicy option but I will definitely order fried chicken here again!

    Popcorn chicken lunch

Came here for Taiwanese takeout with a friend. We both got the Popcorn Chicken lunch. The price point of the meal was good. The popcorn chicken had good flavour, however the chicken wasn't crispy. The remainder of the meal included tomatoe and egg, bok choy and rice. The tomato and egg stir fry was okay, I though the vegetables tasted soggy. Overall a cheap place to grab lunch, if you wanted Taiwanese lunch there are many better options out there.

Oreo slush - don't remember the full name but it was really good!

Note: this review was written pre-COVID! Our server was really friendly. She kept checking when we would be ready to order then joked that she thought it was females who were more indecisive when I ordered first and my male friends struggled choosing haha. After that the service went wonky though. 30 mins for my drink. 40 mins for the second. And another 10 mins came the last two. In total - we waited an hour and 20 minutes for 4 bbt drinks lmao. Ordered size small and they gave me a size large and we felt reluctant to tell them it was the wrong order because they were super busy and had one server running around, the poor girl. But they messed up 3 of the 4 orders sheesh. All 3 had the sugars levels mixed. I'd still give them 3 stars though because the server really did try her best and they let us stay for a few hours to play board games and never kicked us out. XD Tip: They only take debit and cash.

#5 Fried Chicken Fillet on Rice - all combo meals come with side dishes

As a Taiwanese myself, I can say that this place is quite authentic and as close to actual Taiwanese food as it can. The wide selection of menus will satisfy all kinds of customers, whether you want a full meal, snacks, bubble tea, smoothies, or shaved ice. I always eat their combo meals when I'm craving Taiwanese food. The amount they give you is huge and satisfies me. The meal also comes with side dishes, an egg, and minced meat to go with the rice (minced pork rice is a famous TW dish). With around $10ish, you could have a fulfilling meal with a nice drink (or you can choose not to add a drink). I always order #1, 3 or 5 since they fry their meat perfectly to my taste - crispy, but not too salty or oily. If you've never tried TW food before, try #1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 13. The rest are equally as good but leaning more towards actual Taiwanese food. The prices are not bad, and it's a good restaurant for casual eating or full meals. Great place to socialize with authentic Taiwanese food. Perhaps other areas (such as shaved ice, bbt, service..etc) aren't 5/5, but their combo meals definitely are. I don't think it deserves only a 3/5, more like 4.5/5 but who knows.

    Br'lunch specials

Last Friday, four of my colleagues and I came to this plaza to have lunch at Chilli Chicken House. I immediately spotted Bubble Republic Tea House next door and flagged it. After we ate at this place, one of us asked if we could visit Bubble Republic. Since we are all fans of bubble tea, we took the plunge and went in. This place allows you to sit down and eat food. We were here to order bubble tea, so we did the takeout routine. A br'lunch menu is in your face when you walk in. The food looked good and dishes are pretty cheap in price when you order between noon and 3 pm on a weekday. They are mostly served with rice, which one exception where it was a noodle dish. Cool! I ordered a large iced strawberry black tea. I was so full from lunch that I decided not to get any tapioca. You can customize how much ice and sugar you want in your drink, which I appreciated. I tend to go with no sugar and a bit of ice. Two of us ordered bubble tea. We waited off to the side for a good seven minutes before our tea orders were ready. The woman at the counter was okay. She was competent, but didn't exude warmth. I guess stoic is the best adjective to describe her. My drink was okay. It wasn't horrible. It wasn't outstanding. Just okay. It was black tea with a dull strawberry flavour mixed in. The best strawberry black tea that is my kryptonite is at CoCo. Ever since that discovery, I have yet to find another bubble tea place that can beat this drink's awesome flavour and fresh taste. My drink came to $6.22. It's not cheap, but it's competitively priced compared to other bubble tea shops. I'd come here to have some food. Maybe the bubble tea tastes better with food! (92)

This place has gone DOWNHILL. Not only do they consistently have terrible service for years, like never answering the phone or staffing only 2-3 workers while they are always busy, but now they overprice they entire menu to the point of ridiculousness. For context, I grew up next to this location so I spent a lot of my early 20s coming here as a hang out spot. So I used to love coming here. Tonight I thought, I haven't been here in a while so maybe I should get a snack and some bubble tea along with takeout food from a restaurant within the same plaza. I spent $26 on a full dinner at Yin Ji, full on seafood dishes. I spent $36 on Bubble Republic. Here's my order. ALL BEFORE TAX. Small taro chiller with tapioca $8.50 Small oatmeal smash chiller NO tapioca $8 Potato Wedges with BARELY any wasabi flakes $8 Fried Popcorn chicken $10 ARE YOU KIDDING ME. A SMALL TARO CHILLER WITH TAX ALMOST CAME TO $10?!!?!!!?!! I'm sorry but that is a ripoff on every single order. let's be real, their food and drinks are solid. and they're the only bubble tea spot I know of that actually serves food, but cmon. if you're gonna charge that much for your product, why are people waiting FOREVER ALL THE TIME. I skimmed through a few reviews here and seems like i'm not the only one to complain about the wait times and prices. this used to be my fav spot to hang out at. but nope. NEVER ORDERING AGAIN HERE.

Fried chicken wings with red yeast
    Wynne L.

There were not many guests around 1 pm on a Monday afternoon. I went in requesting a table for 2 and I was pointed in the general direction of all the tables. Once I had chosen a table and sat down I noticed that there were menus laid out on the table but they were just for drinks. As someone who hasn't been before I had to look around before finding a food menu. It would've been nice if it had been pointed out to me. When the laminated menu was picked up it did not feel clean. It felt like there was residue on it. There was also bits of rice all over the table. My first impression of cleanliness was not so good. When ordering a lunch special drinks are available for $0.50 which is a pretty good deal. The dishes are a decent size and my friend and I were incapable of finishing all of it. Just an FYI that the red yeast wings take a very long time to be made. Something about marinating them when they're ordered. We had finished our dishes and were just chatting before the wings arrived. There wasn't much of a lunch rush so we could sit and chat for as long as we wanted.

BR used to be the place to go before all the new bbt places opened in Sauga. Ordered the strawberry shake which I would not recommend because it's 1000000% artificial flavouring which I'm not a fan of, but I mean if you are, defs go for it. I would recommend getting the deal of the day drink, which seems to offer better value. Easy to find parking in this plaza too so that's a plus. PS. They only take debit & cash, so leave your credit card at home.

Popcorn chicken on rice dinner combo
    Linda L.

Love coming to Bubble Republic for a quick lunch on a workday and also hanging out with friends. Bubble Republic is a great bubble tea shop at Mississauga with another location on the Square One side. They offer bubble tea for take out and also sit down dining. Their lunch and dinner special has a combo option where it allows you to add a drink to the meal at a discount. From my experience, I like their regular milk tea and pinna cotta milk team. For food, the popcorn chicken on rice, deep fried pork chop on rice (large portion), deep fried chicken pork chop on rice (large portion) are some of my favorites. There are also some snack options available such as rice noodles, sausages, and fish cakes. The restaurant isn't very large, but the tables can be move around to piece together for larger groups, though I'd recommend coming in a group of 4.

I ordered black tea with 1/2 tablespoon of honey. I think they literally added a 1/2 table of honey in my tea. Way too sweet. I never thought it was possible to ruin regular tea but bubble republic succeeded where all others have failed. My friend ordered tiramisu chiller and he really liked it. 2 stars because they failed at making regular tea. Also, because the tea was $5!

Monday special - Black Diamond Black Milk Tea with grass jelly, red beans and tapioca pearls. Taste like they used powdered coffee creamer.
    Colanie B.

One of the few places open on Labour Day. I was dying for for some bubble tea so a friend suggested this place. Lobby was packed with people for take out orders even though there were a number of tables available for dine in. My friend suggested to get the special which was a Black Diamond Black Milk Tea with grass jelly, red beans and tapioca pearls for $4.19. Wanted to order their Sweet milk custard brick toast but the cashier warned us that it would take 10-15 minutes to prepare so I went with the Fried Spiced Chicken instead. There was a bit of a wait time but not unusually long. The flavor and sweetness of the tea was fine (you can adjust the level of sweetness and amount of ice in your drink ) but it tasted very powdery like they used powdered coffee creamer. The tapioca pearls were soft with a nice chew, the way I like it. I was expecting the Fried Spiced Chicken to be spicy (hot) with a crispy coating but they weren't. However, they were tender, juicy flavorful bite size morsels of chicken. If I was in the area again I would come back to try more of their food. I would recommend getting their daily specials for drinks or their combos which includes a drink to get the most for your money.

    Combo 1 with Taiwanese noodles
    Vivian B.

I'm surprised I never wrote a review on this and I've been here so many times. This place is not bad for some taiwanese food and bubble tea. They have everyday drink specials which is good for carry out - these don't apply to food combos. I always get combo number one with taiwanese noodles because that always stays consistent vs the rice dish. The veggies usually changes and it's super random. I like the noodles, it's soft. I think it's similar to egg noodles but it's more flat. The fried chicken comes on the side but I end up throwing a few pieces in the soup so it adds more flavour to it. My main drink is the caramel pudding milk tea. Not much to say, I think it's one of the popular drinks. Another go to is the matchamisu which is ice blended tiramisu drink with some matcha powder on top and a ladyfinger. Only downside of this drink is that it doesn't apply with the food combos :( They accept only debit now and if you want to split bills, just walk up to the counter and tell them what you're paying for. A good place to chill and hang out for bbt!

This place is more than a mere bubble tea shop. This joint has always been, and continue to be, one of the watering holes for students and young professionals in Mississauga. For longest time, it was the only bubble tea option outside of malls and supermarkets. Despite other bubble tea joints that opened up, this place continue to thrive. The draw of this place is their seating space and affordable food options, making this a great place to spend a couple of hours with friends. Popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup really hits the spot, the tapioca is fresh and they have all the classic bubble tea flavor options. The shaved ice here is not too exciting; the toppings are fresh and delicious, but the shaved ice itself is not too special. The milk tea shaved ice is pretty much the same as their milk tea slush bubble tea; a slush flipped upside down and served in a bowl. Their service varies drastically depending on the server on shift and how experienced they are and how much English they speak. Overall, a great place to chill with some friends without hurting your wallet.

If you're looking for the place, it's across from Boston Pizza.

Apparently this is a very famous restaurant in Taiwan so it's great that we can try it here in Toronto! My Taiwanese friend did the ordering as she was familiar with the popular dishes to try. She ordered two lunch specials. One lunch set was a little pricier for about $25 but if you pay cash there is 10% off on this item. This lunch set was really worth it as this combo included 6 side dishes, a main dish with a soup or milk tea...and for the main dish, you could choose Danmi noodles or Minced pork rice and we picked the noodles since we got the Pork Hock & Minced pork rice for our 2nd lunch set. The two of us shared all the items except my friend insisted that I have the marinated abalone side dish and this was so good! I will definitely be coming back because of this dish! I also liked the Danmi noodles and Pork Hock. Although the food was amazing but the service was lacking. It wasn't busy when we got there just before noon on a Wednesday and we had to wave the staff for help several times and the staff didn't even take our order correctly as we had asked for two tea and they only brought one. I will still be back as the food was really good and I love Taiwanese food!

You know what you're going to get every time you order. We've had popcorn chicken (5/5), pork cutlet (4.5/5), fish fillet (4/5), braised beef (4/5), stinky tofu (3.5/5 for me but others give it 4/5), dry noodles with Taiwanese sausage (4/5), braised beef soup noodles (4/5). The sides are consistent in what you get and the nice thing is you get to choose 3 with bento boxes. The complimentary soup is alway nice and my rating varies depending on what they made that day but never below 3/5. Price: At prices between 10-12$, this is a great place to get takeout lunch or dinner.

Gluten with preserved vegetable and braised tofu pocket were both really sweet, three cup eggplant didn't have much sauce, bittermelon with egg had very little egg, and the stir-fried mustard was quite bitter. When calling to check if the soup of the day was vegetarian, I was told it was chicken broth and asked to make a note not to have it included, only to end up receiving a wintermelon soup that didn't taste of chicken, so not sure what happened there. The seaweed was great though.
