This was our breakfast stop during our road trip across the US. Located in Utah. It was a bit hard to find the place since it is situated in the middle of a neighborhood and next to a park. The little cafe also resembles a house so it felt like we were walking into someone's home. The place is super cute and the food was delicious !!! We adventured out to Draper for lunch at this secret little spot that came highly recommended to us, and it was a super solid choice! Only open for breakfast, lunch, and teatime, the menu is a smattering of inventive, tasty treats and classic American fare - plus they have yummy-looking homemade sodas and blended coffee drinks. The fiance got the turkey bacon avocado sandwich and I got the blackberry chévre salad - neither disappointed! My salad was fruit-laden and enormous for the price (plus it came with a cheddar and chive biscuit that was to DIE for), and the fiance loved the bread and proportions of meat on his sandwich. Inside, we were distracted by the mouth-wateringly arranged pastry bar and both ended our respective meals with an eclair - no pics because we gobbled them down so fast I couldn't get my phone out! Ended up around $30 for two meals and two desserts - not cheap eats, but well worth the price. Overall: 10/10. Can't wait to try their breakfast and (of course) more pastries! read more

This is my new favorite Saturday morning spot. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast and absolutely loved it! We both got the frittata sandwich and WOW! It was delicious and super filling. I also got a pumpkin iced coffee with coconut milk and it was *the best* coffee I've ever had. I think it was made with actual pumpkin because it tasted fresh, not like the 'pumpkin spice syrup' flavor. It was infinitely better than anything I've had at Starbucks or Beans and Brews and reason enough to come back again and again. Kristina was our server and she was so sweet and friendly. What an adorable place! And set right by a park that we had to take pics at. Easy to find. Seating for about 8 at a counter. Seating for another 20 (approx) at tables. Outdoor seating as well. We were seated right away at about 11am on a Saturday. Maybe about 6 other people already inside. Drinks were brought to us within 5 mins. Food ordered and brought out in another 5 mins. LOVED the Pear Gorgonzola salad!! I thought I was taking a pic of it but it ended up being the Pasadena blue which there are already pics of on here. (I would chose the pear gorg. over the pasadena any day) I also had the turkey cranberry sandwich. Another delicious choice! And (haha) I had the roasted butternut soup as well. My drink was the house made chai. YUM! My daughters had the butterbeer, one had it frozen and the other just regular. Both were great! We enjoyed the turkey bacon avocado. My daughter LOVED the ciabatta it was served on. Courteous servers. Quick service. Desserts looked great but we were too full to want any. Maybe next time. YES there will be a next time!! I love Food for Thought. It is small, quaint, and has delicious food. I usually meet up here with girlfriends. It is a great place where you can linger. With that in mind, I wouldn't come here looking for a rushed lunch, as the service is sometimes incredibly slow. I love the Pasadena Blue salad and the Mediterranean Chicken Sandwich. Unfortunately, the portions are too big to eat both.. actually a half sandwich fills me up! I always get a mint brownie to go. Never knew this place existed and I ran through the drive through to grab a treat for my Uncle for his birthday. The owners were so nice, she even wrapped up the box of treats for my uncle with ribbon. I ended up trying their Iced Latte and it is fabulous! Will certainly be back to try out their food too. I drive past this little shack all the time and decided to finally stop in once. I went up to the drive through and no one came- shocker. I waited a couple minutes and thought they were closed but then I finally saw a couple of Asian kids walk past the window so I knocked and one shuffled over. First of all, the menus on the walls are very awkwardly placed because I can't see them well while I'm at the window. I asked for a menu, but never received one so I looked up the menu online. I was feeling frisky so I took the liberty of ordering avocado toast and a cup of tomato soup. Much to my chagrin, the guy said that my total was nearly $20. I also asked for a cup of water and was told it would set me back a whole buck. Long story short I ended up reluctantly paying the price which ended up being very regrettable. When I got home and removed the food from the bag I realized had paid $10 for a slice of burnt wheat bread with some toothpaste and seeds on it, and another $8 for a few sips of some decent tomato soup. I was however happily surprised to find a small dinner roll at the bottom of my bag. Probably won't be back here.... read more

Growing up in Draper, Food for Thought had become a regular spot for my friends and I to catch up and enjoy food together. The location is quaint and homey and perfect for catching up on each other's life. Today unfortunately has made it so our group of friends will no longer get together at the restaurant. First we walked in the shop and there was a Huge line out the door to pay. Waiting outside of the line after 10 min I finally went up to the employee just hanging out behind the counter and told her we needed a table. After requesting two high chairs she placed one at the table and walked away. After another ten minutes we asked for menus. Got our food fairly quick and it was decent as usual. We don't necessarily come for the food. Then the it gets really bad- Just a reminder this restaurants hours are open until 4pm. We were talking enjoying our food. At about 3 o'clock they started flipping all the chairs upside down around us. Remind you there were still other people eating. Then at 3:20 an employee came up and told us they close at 4 and asked if we would leave!!!! 40 min until closing because they like to leave right at 4!!!! Are you kidding! If you want your employees to leave at 4 close shop at 3! And especially don't kick your paying customers out! Unfortunately this experience made us feel un welcomed and un important. Ask me to leave at 4 even 3:45, but 40 min before you close is ridiculous! Let's just say next time we will be taking our business else where read more

This is a quaint little historic home-turned-restaurant located on Fort Street in Draper. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and they also have a bakery up front if you're just in the mood for a snack instead of a meal. There's not really a whole lot in the way of ambiance, and I would imagine if you went on a busy day it would get pretty noisy in there. I had the Thai chicken salad. It was delicious! My friend had the turkey club on ciabatta bread and a cappuchino. She said it was pretty good. They had several options for dessert - I took home a huge sugar cookie, an eclair, and a lemon poppyseed cake. The eclair was not sweet enough and was basically like eating a buttered croissant. The cake itself was good, but the frosting was way too lemony. The sugar cookie was by far the best dessert I tried. Overall, I liked this little place. I did not like the prices. It was extremely expensive - $10 for a salad at lunch. The desserts I ordered came to $15. I don't know if they have a different menu for dinner, but if they do I shudder to think at how much a dinner salad would cost. Yikes! read more

So it's been a few months since stopped in, and I just wasn't feeling my go-to places today. A cookie or brownie and a sandwich seemed like it would hit the spot, so I decided to skip the table service portion of the experience and called in with a to go order for me. It was ready when I arrived around ten minutes later, and I added a cookie (for my daughter) and a mint brownie (for me! And it tastes like a gigantic, delicious Andes mint), as well as a caramel vanilla latte to my order. I spent about $22.00 for the takeout, but I've always enjoyed the dessert offerings and the coffee. They also make handcrafted sodas and have some delicious-looking flavorings (like S'mores) for the hot chocolate. One of these days, I need to stop myself from getting my favored caramel vanilla latte and try one out--I've got my eye on the butterbeer! The owner, who I'd met last summer when I stopped in, spent a good chunk of time with me picking my brain on the menu, what I liked and disliked as a customer, and what kind of things I would suggest to improve the overall experience. I shared with him my past experiences (see previous review) and he was very apologetic and willing to listen to my ideas. He also informed me of a Draper free concert that would be happening on Monday and said we should come and check it out. I think it's great to see them getting involved in the community events. I really struggled with deciding on the rating for this place. I live out of town, but this is a family favorite and we usually come multiple times every time we visit (which is often). I absolutely love the ambiance, the food, the location, and the people that work here. What I don't love is the slow digression of food and prices over the years. When we first started coming here, you could get a soup and sandwich/salad combo for a reasonable price, maybe around $10. Then they removed that from the menu, so if you want to get soup and a sandwich or salad you have to pay for a full order and a full cup or bowl of soup, which ends up coming in at just under $20. Ok, fine. Not ideal, but everything else is still great. Today I go in and order avocado toast for $9.95. It comes and it's one slice of thin toast with no eggs and a small side of fruit. I expected more for $10, but ok, my fault for not reading through the menu better. I ask for a side of eggs, but they aren't doing eggs anymore and only have a frittata patty. It was kind of the last straw for me. Paying $10 for such a basic snack (def not a meal) is just too much. They continue to remove items from the menu, but still keep the same prices or, in some cases, increase prices. I know this is locally owned and I can see that the owners work their butts off. All of my complaints probably come from them trying to make it easier to run. If that's the case, this is NOT the way to do it because they are making it unaffordable to come often. Maybe hire a trustworthy manager and assistant manager to handle things a few days a week to get a break here and there. Don't change the things the customers love about the place! Honestly, this probably won't prevent me from coming entirely because I really do love it there. However, it definitely won't be a daily thing when we are in town anymore. Maybe once per visit, which is really sad to me. I just can't justify spending $20 a person for lunch and coffee on a frequent basis. If they make some changes and bring back the combo, eggs, and/or add some affordable choices, I'll happily update my review. read more

Great menu items for brunch. They serve Cafe Ibis coffee which is really good. The latte is a must! Great sandwiches and salads. Pastry items are tasty. Love the history of the home and the location (historic part of Draper). There's a darling patio seated in front of the Whisper Dome. It's nice to walk through after eating. I'm not one to continue the spread of negative energy around the Internet. Immediately after leaving Food For Thought I knew that I had to write about my insanely positive and lovely experience. My friends and I only bought drinks, which were all terrific. I got a blackberry lavender soda which was so delightful, not too sweet not too bitter, with a little like garnish. The decor is just like coming home and there is a lot of natural light, which was lovely. But what really matters at Food For Thought is their incredibly friendly staff. They made us feel like we were right at home! I've worked in the service industry for many years and they should hold a class of how to interact with customers. I was blown away. I live very far away, but would love to come back on my return trip to Salt Lake. If you are from the area and love coffee I suggest you go! Drink up. read more

The pleasant atmosphere can't be replicated. The menu is original, the food is fresh and fantastic. The owner and his family are present (I think this makes a difference) and are part of the fabric of wonderful Draper city living. My personal favorite is a Dole-whip float which I can't get in very many places except at this restaurant and Disneyland and the Dole factory in Hawaii. Food for Thought is one of a kind. Came to Food For Thought with a coworker for a quick lunch. I love the location! Such a quaint cafe in a beautiful established neighborhood. Inside there were a number of people having coffee and lunch. We were able to easily find a table for two. It might be difficult if you have a large group. You would want to go before and scope things out. But for a quick small lunch this was a great spot. The sandwiches were fresh. The soup was hot. Lacking one star because although the food was good it wasn't overly impressive. I will definitely be back to try some other menu items to try to get them that fifth star. The brownies were exceptional and beautiful. I got a piping hot s'mores brownie that changed my mood when I smelled it. Our order got a little messed up, but we ordered a something convoluted and it was probably our fault. Another review said it very well, but in short: the prices are just too high to make this place anything more than a special occasion. You can get a sandwich and a drink, leave hungry, and it costs you 15$+. Never had anything prepared poorly, or service be anything but excellent, but it's more of a once a quarter visit, rather than weekly, because I can't justify spending that much on lunch on any regular day. My company recently moved in down the street, and we all would have loved a reasonable place to get coffee or a quick lunch, but everyone who comes back from here has the same review.
