Stopped during our trip from California, and was suprised to find a place like this in Utah! Reminds us of our favorite places back home in So-Cal. Great sandwiches, salads, and baked stuffs! My wife lived the caprese sandwich, tomato bisque, and pear/gorgonzola salad. It's hard to fund fresh vegetarian options out here and she was very happy. I loved the cranberry turkey sandwich. Definitely not McDonald's or other fast food or over processed garbage that has popped up all over the place. It's nice to eat your food off a plate instead of out of a paper bag. My kids and I stopped by for an after school treat and were pleasantly surprised by this boutique cafe. We purchased beautifully decorated Pokemon sugar cookies, which were soft and delicious. We also fought over their hot and cold butterbeers, transporting us into the world of Harry Potter. I hope they cater for kids' parties! Love this place. A little gourmet lunch spot in right the heart of Old Draper. The soups are all homemade - the butternut and especially the tomato parmesan soup is to die for. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I went in with a group of 6 adults and my three 3 yr old. I brought in some outside food (Mcdonalds Hapoy Meal) for my 3 yr old son to eat because he wouldn't eat anything here. We were all ready to order our food when the manager told me that I couldn't bring in food for my 3yr old and I would need to either throw it away or go with my son to eat it at the park across the street. How rediculous!! Who says that to a paying customer??? We all got up and left and told them we will never be back. They missed out on potentially an $80 food sale between all of us because of this. I don't ever review but I felt like I should to warn others of the horrible prices. I went through the drive-thru and there were no cookies listed but I asked if they had them because their sign says something about desserts and the cashier said they did so I ordered two sugar cookies and my total was $8.55! I said "for two cookies?" The cashier simply replied "oh, well they're BIG!" Well come to find out they're no bigger than swig or kneaders cookies that are half the price! Decent food, somewhat inattentive/indifferent service. I'd give it 4 stars for the food and 2 stars for service. I've been there three or four time, so obviously there's enough merit there to keep me coming back. I like that it isn't a chain and that the menu has a decent variety in the soup/salad/sandwich department. Short of going all the way up to Salt Lake to Gourmandise or the like, there just isn't much of that kind of thing in the space between Salt Lake and Provo. I especially like the Mediterranean sandwich and the pear Gorgonzola sandwich. The prices are on the high end for the product they offer, but I'm generally willing to pay a little more a mom n' pop type establishments. The $13.95 "Executive Lunch" is a decent amount of food unless your standard is "all-you-can-eat." Rather than the mini dessert, the past couple of times I've been there they have offered the choice between a mint brownie or lemon bar (both full-sized). My biggest issues have been with the service. Every time I've been in it seems that unless I'm read to order within two minutes of sitting down, it takes 15 minutes to get someone to take my order. In my several visits there, I've never once had my water or soda refilled, and have actually wandered over to the beverage machine myself several times to refill my drink. Today, the woman working the counter practically hovered over diners. Before they could put down their forks from their last bites she zoomed in and said, "Do you want your check now?" We watched this happen several times while we were waiting for our food. It's not comfortable to feel like an inconvenience as a patron of a place of business, and it certainly felt like, "Don't let the door hit your butt on the way out." We'd been looking at some retail items I thought about buying before our food came, but we were rushed out so quickly I forgot to add them to the bill. It was two full hours before closing, so it's not like we were the patrons they couldn't get rid of. read more

We went here today on a recommendation of a friend. We'll never go back and never recommend to anyone. The food was okay, the club that I got cost $10 and I expected a lot more. You can pay just a dollar more at the cheesecake factory and get double the amount of food and a lot more tasty. My husband ate his sandwich in about 2 minutes. We don't mind paying for quality for food, but this was not quality and should have been half what they were charging us. My experience at Food For Thought was nothing short of incredible. The owners are so friendly and welcoming, the same treatment could be expected from visiting an old friend. I tried a latte, apple bar, lemon bar, and a butter beer. They were all thoroughly enjoyable, and two thumbs up to any Harry Potter fan, right? I look forward to trying they're gourmet sandwiches and quiche on my next visit. I highly recommend supporting this small business. This is a great place. Wonderful setting, very personal friendly service, organic (delicious) coffee. I've always felt treated like royalty and had a nice time. Here's the thing - they are a lovely small place - if you want the speed of a McDonalds - go to McDonalds! Otherwise, relax and enjoy the lovely setting and chat with your friends and realize what kind of dining experience you're getting. My meals have been plenty fast enough for me! Others who have fussed about that should get smart and realize that it's being prepared AFTER you order it, not before... You know, the way really nice restaurants do! I used to think a lot more highly of this place but the most recent time I went there was kind of a disappointment. The prices have gone up and I paid more than $10 for a thin little sandwich. The sandwich tasted good but it didn't even get close to filling me up. It also came with a cup of fruit but there were only like 4 pieces of watermelon in it. It felt like they were being super cheap with their portions, considering how much they were charging. My wife's salad was also really small and had holes all over the lettuce from bugs. They were understanding of our disappointment in the lettuce and ended up giving us the salad for free and our entire group a cone of ice cream to apologize. I was grateful for this, and recognize their efforts to remedy the problem. The people were all very nice, and like I said, they were very good about their customer service once a problem was recognized. Their food is good, but just pricey in my opinion. I really liked this place for the location and the cuteness factor. Old houses are cool. We thought we would have a bite to eat, but after looking at the menu, realized it's kind of pricey. So, we opted for soup and a biscuit. It was not bad. I wished for a pinch of salt and pepper in my butternut squash soup, but there were no salt and pepper shakers. The soup was not very hot. The soup portion seemed small. Maybe, I'm cheap. I liked the biscuit. The servers were friendly. I loved looking at the old stuff, like the fireplace. I would go again, but for the hot chocolate. I have been here three times in the last 4 months. The food is wonderful. The atmosphere is fun. The staff are very nice. BUT.....the service is horrible. All three visits with different servers. Wrong orders delivered, so S-L-O-W-W-W I could not believe it. What should have taken less than 30-40 minutes was beyond ridiculous. The first trip, a salad and a cup of soup. I was really surprised that a cup of soup took over 25 min to bring to our table. There were only 5 people in the restaurant. And the second trip, two salads were ordered----identical salads, (the Thai salad) mind you. Only two other people in the restaurant and they had their food. We were served a sandwich and the wrong salad. And the third trip was equally fun---wrong salad and the server asked if it was okay if he left it....What??? I would love to leave a better review. Always love to come to food for thought. It was a little gem we found after moving here from California. I always get the turkey cranberry sandwich and the blackberry chevre salad. Delish. Their butternut squash soup is superp. Coffee/iced tea? Delish. Love this place. Yes service sometimes falls flat. But the owners are wonderful and so sweet. Always love to say hello. This quaint ladies lunch place used to be a fave, but I've been underwhelmed the past two visits this week. Food hasn't been fresh: soup served lukewarm and the famous chive biscuit was either cold or microwaved/ rubbery. Curry croissant dry, and the pear/Gorgonzola salad was essentially a leafy lettuce package opened on the plate with canned pears on top. Not sure what's happened here but it's definitely not the place I loved! And bring back the Andes mints with the bill! read more

We love this little cottage cafe on the old-fashioned park square. We stop by many Saturdays when we walk our greyhounds down for coffee and pastry. The people are so nice they offer our dogs water if they are looking parched and we have forgotten ours. We have been by for lunch several times and the soups and sandwiches are wonderful. I love having a family-run place to go to right in our own neighborhood. It's cute inside, the food is good, nice place to get away from the rat race of fast food and strip malls. read more

Cute and quaint and the food is delicious! I love the Baked Pecan French Toast, it has a vanilla cream sauce and is sooo good! Everything off the menu is great! I had a piece of cake though and it was very dry. They freeze their pastries (which is understandable since they are not very busy and usually doesn't affect the taste or quality) but this cake was just dry. The server had to inspect it before taking it off my bill...kind of odd. She's not a very good server anyway, I have been there three times and have not been impressed with her. She went on her break as we were finishing eating and I stood up to look at the pastries and then stood there for over 5 minutes waiting for someone to help me. She was sitting right there at a table eating and didn't bother to call anyone to help. I will go back for the food but hopefully they find a friendlier and more competent server. read more

Waaaaaaaay overpriced for what you get and poor service. I don't know what the attraction is to this place. My husband and 6 year old daughter went in yesterday for lunch. We each got the Southwest Chicken Salad and my daughter the grilled cheese sandwich kids meal. The salad was by far the worse salad I've ever gotten (and was close to $10). It was made with wet iceberg lettuce, cold corn, cold black beans, and the chicken that looks like it comes from a can at Costco. Seriously! That was it! It wasn't even good with the dressing (which they had forgotten to bring out initially). Oh, I forgot the very stale tortilla chips that were placed around the salad. My daughters sandwich looked like it was made from white Wonder bread, and they put it with a pack of Lays potato chips---that was it. Nothing special at all. The kids meal was $9.00!! No dessert or anything to go with it. We ended up buying her a sugar cookie (for $5). Even at 6 years old, she said that her lunch was gross. We were extremely disappointed. We had wanted to try something different than our regular Corner Bakery, Kneaders, etc. and immediately wish that we hadn't. Even the service was poor----the girl who sat us and took our order mumbled the entire time and we couldn't hear a word she said. The girl who brought out our check was extremely rude especially when we asked to see the itemized bill since we were shocked at the price of our lunch (over $50 and that was with my husband and I only drinking water). We will never be back! I don't understand what the big deal about this place is. I know this is Draper but basically its just a bunch of women's chatter and their screaming babies echoing through the small rooms in the tiny house. I would save your money and go somewhere that has much better food, a better environment, better service, and overall just better for your money! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally made it by for a mid day coffee run. It's a cute shop with nice employees, but I've never seen baristas struggle so bad. My order was an iced americano with vanilla and a chai latte. Not too hard but the whole time the employees looked completely confused and kept looking at each other. My quick stop turned into a 10 minute visit (no one else in line) due to me needing to repeat myself numerous times. This place used to be a fun place for a girlfriend lunch. Not anymore after our last experience.Sadly. New owner? First of all we were shocked that it took almost half hour to get our food, and it wasn't very crowded. Food not the same, except the tomato soup was and was good. Grilled cheese was not restaurant style, it was like make it at home for your kids style and the bread was way too thick for what little cheese was inside. very dry. (and 8.50) I even asked for a tomato for it and it still was boring. luckily I had the soup to dip it in. My 3 friends got salads. all of them said that they have gone downhill. Tons of lettuce hardly enough toppings like the blue chees and the nuts,etc. the dressing was so small that they gave with it. my friend asked for extra and the charged her .75 for it. not good. I asked for coconut syrup in my coke because I saw all of their torani syrups and they used one that was gross with no sugar in it. charged me .50 for it, and on the menu it says .29 cents. not good. they also don't put hardly any ice in your drinks. Strange. My friends and I wanted to get a refill of our cokes in a to go cup since we were leaving. the young man was awkward, left, then came back to tell us it will cost an extra dollar each to have a to go cup. Seriously? It just didn't feel customer friendly, the food was just barely average, and they want to nickle and dime you to death, so we will not go back. read more
