I go here a lot and thought it warranted a review. Definitely a must-go if you're a high schooler in Athens and has great study vibes if you're a student. The boba is good and never is stale the times I have gone here and there's a lot of flavors. I think the katsu curry really shines and always get it as a meal. The poke is the second best in Athens and honestly you can't go wrong with the menu. A little hole in the wall shop - literally. You have to enter through a tiny doorway and head down the stairs but Bubble cafe is a cute little place with great vibes! Bubble Cafe is a cute little bubble tea shop in Athens! It is located underground, so don't miss it! The space is filled with cutesy decor in colors of teal and orange. They've updated their menu from a chalkboard to a real menu board. There is a board with pictures of various extra foods and drinks that aren't on the menu. The seating is limited since the place is often filled with busy college students. The owners are very nice & sweet so definitely try out this new place! They've really picked up the pace so they've hired a couple college students. It can get backed up sometimes since there aren't a lot of workers. Food is always made fresh-to-order. For the price, you always get a really decent amount of food. The salt & pepper chicken nuggets are typical Taiwanese style & is highly recommended. The bubble tea is fairly priced (compared to other boba shops) & really good. The boba is always chewy & they give you a good amount included in the drink. The Thai tea is really authentic & brewed fresh with cream added on top (but I did get an order of thai tea once, where it was mixed together and watered down). The door is a little small; don't miss it! The place is to the left of the cobbler, and you go down the stairs and to your left! The atmosphere was interesting. My sister described it as if "someone just went inside their house and took a bunch of random things." the service was good-- I am so glad I asked what the 3.Q. milk tea was! The ingredients are rarely fresh and the quality is inconsistent at best. Ordered sesame chicken bowl and it was way too sweet and the sauce pooled at the bottom of the bowl like a soup. Poke bowl ingredients taste stale and low quality. Honeydew bubble tea is a different color every time not sure what that's about. Gross and overpriced food. Only good to study inside. read more

This place caught my eye after trying another tea place in athens that was pretty underwhelming. I got the brown sugar milk tea and it was GREAT, if anything some of the boba could be a little less hard but ive had much worse and the drinks flavor made up for it. I also got two food items, the cheese wontons and the chicken katsu curry rice bowl. The wontons were exactly how i was wanting them to be, crunchy with a creamy inside filling and i scoffed all 6 down in a matter of 30 minutes. Unfortunately the only thing i wasnt very impressed with was the katsu curry rice dish. It wasnt bad, but i was left wishing there was more to it. the chicken is good, basic katsu chicken. The curry was okay, but i was hoping it to have a good bit of spice to it to help flavor the rice and chicken, but it had no spiciness to it at all. it mainly just tasted like 5 spice which hey, not bad, but pretty underwhelming compared to other curry dishes ive had. Though, for the price it was a pretty good deal, as i was able to get about two meals out of it. I definitely intend on returning next time i make the commute to Athens, but im not sure if ill get anything more than a tea and wontons next time. or maybe i just wont get the curry. who knows lol read more

Traveling this weekend and as usual, nosing around for comfort food of different varieties. Boba tea is something that always reminds me of home and family (California Bay Area) so I had to give this place a try. It's in a basement with narrow stairs, which is unfortunately inaccessible (for folks in wheelchairs or otherwise mobility limited), but hip for college kids and travelers looking for an offbeat hangout. The menu is abbreviated and varied at the same time - often a good sign in my eyes that they can do many things well. I ordered the large Thai milk tea with boba (my favorite) and asked the cashier which he'd choose between the braised beef and salt and pepper chicken dishes. He decidedly recommended the braised beef and I'm glad he did! You get a lot of food for your money and it was warm and comforting on a winter day. Just what I wanted. Only complaint is that the dish itself was just a little one-note and lacked some of the deeper flavors from other braised beef dishes I've had in other places. Also, a soft boiled egg made to order would have been preferred over a cold hard boiled season egg. I'd still recommend it though, for sure. read more

It also has plenty of flavors for both slush and tea, and I haven't been disappointed with any of them I've tried so far. My favorite is the pink lychee. Also, definitely try out their food. Got the crunchy chicken bites last night, I had to throw it away after a few bites because it tasted like rancid chicken that they just decided to fry up anyway. Now it's the next morning and my stomach is very upset from the pieces I ate. This stomach bug is 100% due to the bites because I had nothing else to eat that day. The boba tea was also very subpar because there was condensed milk fragments at the bottom of my tea, I'm assuming it's from the powder they use to mix up the teas. Walked in with a small group looking for a midday drink and snack, and this place hit the spot! We all got Boba, the unique Horchata flavored milk tea was a highlight. As for the food, we got both the Chicken and Tofu Bites with fries, both were great, and the Spicy Yum Yum Sauce was phenomenal. It's like a small Asian Narnia tucked away in an otherwise normal alleyway in downtown Athens. The interior brings back memories of childhood asian places I went to, fluorescent lights, white tile floors, Chinese ornaments everywhere. The only reason I know what he was drinking is cause I asked him lol, I looked up grass jelly and it's supposed to have a ton of health benefits and is pretty popular but I had never heard of it till going here. I love that they have all kinds of options to get into you tea like chia seeds and basil seed both get jelly like in liquid. I decided to come here for a bubble tea fix. It's a cute little café that is past walkers and it's pretty hard to spot. You do have to go down some stairs in order to get inside. I believe it's the only bubble tea shop in Athens. I came around 12:30 on a week day and it was packed. There were barely any booths left. I considered that a good sign. I was planning on taking the tea with me and walk around downtown and campus, so I wasn't bothered by the lack of seats. They also have food, but I haven't tried it so I can't comment. I read the yelp reviews and say that someone mentioned the grapefruit green tea. It sounded like a good option because it was made fresh and it had grapefruit pulp. I decided to get the grapefruit tea and it was around $5 for one size. They ask if you would like a topping with your tea and I just ordered tapioca. Tapioca is free compared to other toppings! Since it's fresh, I didn't mind paying a bit extra because I know some of these drinks come straight from powder! It took some time to make because a) it was busy and b) this tea is made fresh. For some reason, the tea did not agree with me and I had food poisoning 30 minutes later. I have come here before and had the taro snow, which was just ok. I probably should have just ordered the taro milk tea instead. I'm not sure if I would come back again because of the food poisoning. read more
