After visiting Queen's University, I wanted to grab an early dinner. I read online that Kingston is known for it's poutine, and Bubba's was frequently mentioned, so I have it a try. The first think I noticed were the wall murals of Don Cherry, Doug Gilmour and the Tragically Hip. Otherwise, it looks like any other takeout joint. We were the only customers in the place, and the one person working was busy preparing orders placed online. He happily greeted us and asked if we knew what we wanted, but we hadn't yet. We eventually decided on combo #2 which the cheeseburger and poutine. The poutine was ready first, and it was - average. I was expecting something more, but it honestly wasn't any better than what I could get from a NY Fries (actually I like the fries at NY fries better). On the other hand the cheeseburger was pretty good. I only read after that the King St location might be better. I guess I'll try that location next time, if I'm in Kingston, but I'll keep my expectations in check. read more

Stopped by Bubbas both hungry and exhausted after a loooooong, grueling day at the hospital. The owner asked us how our day was going. He actually listened. When it came time to pay, with a huge grin, he said" this is on me after the day you've had" What a kind and generous thing to do and we are beyond grateful.It's heart-warming to know such things happen nowadays. Okay... Poutine here is like no other. A+ Something about the hot and salty, but not too salty, gravy and cheese curds. There is always a line out the door with the night time crowd, those who look for good greasy eats to soak up a night of drinking. Honestly, this has got to be the best drunk food in Kingston. Poutine, pizza, subs... soooo good. With that said, you don't have to be intoxicated to eat a large poutine to yourself. YUM. There's limited seating inside but turnover is quick. Bubbas! Let's not assume this is fine dining, because it is definitely cheap, greasy hangover food. It serves its purpose and does it well. The poutine here is great! The cashier working late last night was reluctant to properly carry out our order. He simply could care less that students already on a budget still deserved good quality service. We called twice to see what the status was of our meal after an hour had passed by and the cashier at Bubba's was irritated and annoyed because he was too lazy to problem solve. Some of the great perks of Bubba's are the great poutine and late night delivery, however,tonight was not such a great experience. The driver was fine and felt bad for the length of time it took to be delivered from Princess St. to University and Bader (1.5 hours to receive our order when we are a 2 minute drive away). The man on the phone when placing the order had shown horrible customer service and sounded very aggravated the first time we placed the delivery at 11:20 PM. We called back twice when our delivery had failed to arrive after an hour and when we called to check the status we were then blamed for the time as we "did not answer his phone call" even though we sat by the phone and didn't even receive one call in that time period. I will not be ordering from them again if this is how we get treated as female students. It's a shame that this particular employee took away the joy of having Bubba's poutine. read more

Always come here for post drunken poutine. So far twice past last call. It is amazing, and I'm not saying that from an innebriated bias point of view. I still don't know if there's all that much difference between a small and large poutine in terms of volume, but it is pretty damn tasty. Poutine alone, is 5 of 5 stars. Currently going into my fourth year at Queen's University, and I discovered this place in second year. I live about a block away, so my friends and I always visit for quick poutine, or some post-night out food. We go here so often for poutine that the three main employees, James, Matt, and Rho all recognize us as a house. No - not as individuals - they even know we're housemates. And yes, I know them by their names too. Anywho, they're always extremely friendly and know our orders by heart. It isn't too difficult because we always order poutine, but it still gives off this home-feeling. THE FOOD ITSELF I always go here for the poutine, and haven't tried anything else on the menu. My housemates, however, have had burgers and pizza, and they thoroughly enjoyed their meal. It probably seems ridiculous to give 5 stars if I've only really tried one thing on the menu, but I really enjoy the poutine THAT much! The cheese curds are only a tad squeaky - as they should be - and melt under the delicious gravy poured over. The gravy itself is flavourful and not overwhelming in fat. The fries are filling and not those shrimpy, thing pieces of potato but actually work well with the load of cheese curds and gravy. Going into my last year, I will definitely try out other menu items and review them on Yelp afterwards. But for now, customer service inside the store, and their poutine, gets a dazzling 5 of 5 stars. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm a big fan of Bubbas. I love their poutine, I love how they make the bottom crust of their pizza so crispy-tasty, and I like how cheap it all is. It's cheesy, fatty, salty, but so damned good. I know that if you ate like that on a daily basis, you would straight up die. The customer service could benefit from a serious tune-up, but other than that, you get a lot of value here for not a lot of coin. Went to bubbas as we were told by many that it was the best poutine we would ever eat! Poutine is my favourite food and I had to check out this Quebec style place, well unfortunately the only Quebec taste i got was the slight squeak the cheese made when you bit in to it, the fries and gravy were not Quebec style at all. mccain fries?? really lol!! It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything like people make it out to be, and the customer service that I received was upsetting. The chef/cashier showed no interest, and believe me I don't expect people to put on a show but at least smile or ask me how my day was? I ordered their special (#5 on their on line menu) and it was so-so. No crust for those that like crust. Although they told me 15-20 min that the pizza would be ready for pick up, when I got there they had not even started making my pizza due to "being behind". At least they did not charge me full price - I'm thinking as a result because they were so late. I ordered from Bubba's tonight for the first time in years as I was craving poutine and money was a bit tight for Smokes and they don't take interac. Thanks to the receptionist handling my order she really screwed up. I had Originally asked to try the Onion Ring poutine. Instead I got regular french fry poutine(which is still pretty good). The Pizza could have used more sauce without even paying extra. Verdict next time I'll check with Smoke's to see if they're finally taking Debit on delivery and the lady could have informed me of the specials before I placed my order and got screwed up. or could have read back my order. I always go here after pouring out of the bar at three am. The employees are amazing the owner is fantastic and the food is always good. Not that too much tastes bad when you are half drunk. They also do delivery I like the ceaser salad wraps the poutine is the best in the city and the gravy most certainly does not have the consistency of "motor oil".
