The first think I noticed were the wall murals of Don Cherry, Doug Gilmour and the Tragically Hip. Otherwise, it looks like any other takeout joint. We were the only customers in the place, and the one person working was busy preparing orders placed online. He happily greeted us and asked if we knew what we wanted, but we hadn't yet. We eventually decided on combo #2 which the cheeseburger and poutine. The poutine was ready first, and it was - average. I was expecting something more, but it honestly wasn't any better than what I could get from a NY Fries (actually I like the fries at NY fries better). On the other hand the cheeseburger was pretty good. I only read after that the King St location might be better. I guess I'll try that location next time, if I'm in Kingston, but I'll keep my expectations in check.

We were seated and noticed a large ad for a free Veteran's meal on November 11th. More about that later. We had heard about the "award winning wings", so I decided to try them as I enjoy good wings. BAD choice! When my wings were delivered, I had to send them back as they were burnt and charred on the bottom and looked basically inedible. I showed them to the server and she said she was sorry and the wings and fries were replaced about 15 minutes later. At least the wings were - there were no fries so she was sent back for more and they were served another ten minutes later. The second order of "award winning wings" were only marginally better than the first, but I ate part of them anyway as I was very hungry by then. To make a long story short, as I am a 36-year veteran of the CAF, I will forego this place on Remembrance Day and future occasions and vote with my feet, as we have dozens of other places to eat, free or not, in Kingston. I decided it'd be cool after Toronto instead of going the same way back to go up east-northeast and come back into the US from the Thousands Islands Bridge to see something different. We arrived in Kingston at dinnertime hungry but unsure what to eat. I looked on Yelp after parking in downtown, but was still unsure. My girlfriend & I needed to use restroom and popped in a hotel. We asked the front desk recommendations. She recommended Dianne's very close walk. We ate outside. It was balmy for Kingston in early June with temps in the 70's F around 8 PM; their average high temp in early June is only upper 60's F (around 20 C). Our server was friendly. She said people are enjoying the first really warm evening of the season. We both got their fish n' chips. It's an Alaskan Pacific haddock as opposed to cod or others used. This is superior to other fish n' chips I've had. This is delicious. Fries were good too, but the fish was the real star and about the best fried fish I've had.
