Food was good. No complaints there. Just hate being asked for a tip at counter service. I see your tip jar. I know it's there

La Colina Mexican Cantina - Mexican cheesecake

La Colina Mexican Cantina

Typical "Mexican" restaurant interior with both high top seating & standard table seating. Staff were friendly and efficient, drinks were nice a strong. Food was good and this place could definitely be a local spot to go to on a whim. We had Quesadillas de Birria, Volcano Burrito-which they cut up and classify it as "sushi burritos," and Margaritas. It is important to note that the complimentary chips and salsa were good. Everything was good and I would suggest if someone was asking for something in the area, albeit I would run back here on a normal day. Nothing against the venue, please do not think that, it's just not my overall preferred type of food. My partner and I tried the margarita flight which did not disappoint. For dinner, we had tostadas, the enchiladas in the green sauce, which were flavorful and satisfying, and we finished with churros for dessert sweet, crispy, and just what we needed to end the meal. The vibe was lively and welcoming, I loved the art they had inside. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food and drinks did not disappoint. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.

Taqueria La Casita - Shrimp Tacos

Taqueria La Casita

No matter who you are or where you're from, there's a strong chance that you're familiar with the…read moremeaning of "Taco Tuesday," which exists across the US, from Los Angeles to small-town Tennessee, from food trucks in the barrios to high-end restaurants in hipster haunts. For some of us, it might simply call for going out and getting tacos or even just preparing our own. Situated in the middle of a residential neighborhood in Roselle Park, this establishment is set inside a small corner suburban home where some of my colleagues decided on takeout, which came highly recommended. Upon arrival at Taqueria La Casita, or "The Little House Taqueria," we were confronted outside by the neon signage reading "Tacos Open" and Mexican flags, among other pieces of colorful decor. Greeted by the staff inside an un-air-conditioned cozy dining room decked out in its Mexican splendor with 4 tables. In the back, a colorful menu with nearly a dozen different types of tacos and an array of other dishes written by hand. We opted for individual orders containing 4 tacos with Shrimp, Chicken, Steak, and Pork. While waiting, we couldn't help but notice the trompo--the spinning, shawarma-adjacent log of marinated pork used for Al Pastor, which translates to "in the style of the shepherd." Originating in Puebla, this came at the hands of Lebanese immigrants during the 1930s. The tortilla itself was freshly made, of the corn variety. They were stuffed to the brim with meat prepared in front of us and served with cucumbers and lime. Fresh condiments of diced onion, cilantro, and avocado were separated in their own container, and all were needed. Various sauces accompanied in small containers, such as green, which was jalapeño-based; the darker red salsa was smoky from dried and smoked chipotle chilis; and neon orange, which was a sauce made from chili de arbol and tomato. The guacamole was absolutely delicious along with the chips, and we couldn't get enough. The portion was a healthy size. The service was fast; Maribel was friendly and accommodating. Authentic, fresh, and affordable--we can recommend this place.

What an unsuspecting hole-in-the wall! This is a small, no-frills restaurant located within a…read moreresidential area, and you certainly wouldn't expect such tasty tacos coming from here. The al pastor is hands down the winner (and bonus- you can actually see it rotating on a spit towards the front!). The shaved pork meat is both fragrant and flavor, and I love the sweetness with the pineapple. I also never had sliced cucumbers or grilled green onions served with my tacos before, but I actually loved them. I joked to my husband that I'd happily order a whole side of those grilled green onions again (which are actually offered on the menu as a side order!). The lady who served us was also very sweet. The restaurant isn't fancy by any means, but I'd happily come back again for the food.
